This song was a true depiction of life, written about Tobacco Road, in Durham, North Carolina. "Tobacco Road" is a blues song written and first recorded by John D. Loudermilk, in December 1959 and released in 1960. This song became a hit for The Nashville Teens in 1964 and has since become a standard across several musical genres. The Winter Brothers and band, brought authenticity, dynamic emotion, feeling and Real Soul to this well written song. This performance is historic, meaningful and will never be equaled. This is "Musical Magic" of the finest caliber.
Was also a big hit for Lou Rawls in 1963. And as far as this performance of Tabacco Road goes, no one in my opinion has come close to the soulful intensity of this performance...except for one....the live album, "Roadwork", by.....you guessed it, Edgar Winter and the White Trash. A phenominal live album....every song. No video, but check out Tobacco Road on that as well...it's on RUclips.
Edgar is on the keys and sax, Johnny is on the guitar. Extremely talented both of them.
I know Edgar had the Frankenstein and Freeride going on for a while but I always thought that both of these brothers both was way underrated I mean look at what degree can do Edgar can do anything he wants to do on the keys and Johnny Johnny can play any good tar for lake with anybody
That bass player is Tommy Shannon who later teams up with Chris Layton drums and becomes Double Trouble they then hook up with SRV.
I was going to say the same thing about Tommy being in there in the background. Tommy played with some Legends
I didn’t know that
Very cool
did not know that
I don't mind being 60+ because it means I got to see these guys live. Multiple times. Always GREAT, always INTENSE. Thanks.
Johnny and Edgar Winter attended Port Arthur High School in Port Arthur, Texas.🇨🇱 Janis Joplin was also in school there at the same time but 2 years ahead of them. What a blues band they could have formed!💯 We can only imagine...❤✌
Johnny winters’ performance of “mean town blues” at Woodstock will blow you away.
The original footage is on youtube.
Johnny was the best blues rock guitar player ever.
👆🏻100%
No, Stevie Ray Vaughn is the 🐐 when it comes to blues guitar.💯 but rank 'em however you feel 'cause they are all Texans!🇨🇱😁❤✌
Johnny and Edgar are Albino and were raised in Texas, the sun was not their friend and they spent a lot of time indoors learning to play different instruments, Johnny passed away in 2014.
Inside looking out, by Grand Funk Railroad live 1969 what be disappointed!!!
Edgar plays a lot of instruments at an expert level. Johnny plays guitar at a level that is unbeatable. Jimi Hendrix was once asked how it felt to be the greatest guitar player. He said "I don't know, ask Johnny Winter". Nuff said.
He's also a percussionist.that be Edgar,Johnny was the Guitar player an if you didn't notice they are albinos an Jhonny is older than Edgar. RIP for Johnny
Ya got to do Edgar Winter "Frankenstein" live. It will blow you away!
Amen 💯
YES!!!!!
They were off the charts good. They were off in the map in the 70's. Never got there due greatness recognition.
I just start laughing when I see someone experience this. 👏😂❤
Edgar was probably cooking supper when the camera was off of him..You should look at the Frankenstein Video and he also wrote and recorded DYING TO LIVE back in 1970 which was Sampled by Tupac
The Winter bros what a musical treasure!!can you imagine being up front in tgat small venue watching this greatness? Johnny is one of the goats!!
The good Lord took their melonin and replaced it with soul!
Tommy Shannon the bass player in this video is SRV’s bass player with Double Trouble.
I grew up listening to these types of guys. 60s,70s yeh yea!
One of the best rock n roll performances ever.
Johnny is the guy on guitar. There was a legendary jamsession, where Jimi Hendrix just played bass because Johnny played guitar.
I saw a black and white vid on YT from 1968 where Jimi is standing with ihis mouth open staring at Johnny play
Edgar is the one wearing out the sax and Johnny on guitar, Johnny was the famous blues legend that left us a few years ago and Edgar is more associated with classic rock and can play pretty much instrument exceptionally, and in case you're wondering, yes they're albinos. Check out Life Is Hard by Johnny to feel your spine tingle (studio version). suggestions? you NEED more Pink Floyd in your headphones! Time is a great song to get you started
YES! Life Is Hard! Sooooo good!
@@joebauers8031 great yt name!
@@myownchannel247 thanks! You’re the first person to ever get it!
@@joebauers8031 Amazing how many idiocrats there are now
And Edgar was just nominated for and won his FIRST GRAMMY for 'Brother Johnny'
Texas...man what an amazing place for talent! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏🤠
Lots of folks getting schooled! Oh yeah!! Us old folks know...Their Mama encouraged them to play music.Living with Albinism is a rare and very difficult challenge
throughout life....but...they sure showed us!
I absolutely love to watch reaction videos to this video. Everybody that reacts to it is totally blown away. It makes me smile.
This is unreal ! WOW ! PEACE ! ❤️✌️
Johnny Winter at Rockpalest doing the Medley , gotta hear this !!!!
I knew the song Tobacco Road vaguely before I stumbled on this performance & was dumbstruck by the talent required to pull off such a crazy rendition without it being a total mess, lol. I’ve now watched this video many times & am still blown away just like all the reactors. Insanely good. 🤯
This is so much more epic then anything I ever seen and I’ve been lucky enough to see it performed live. Amazing!
I love watching all of you younger reactors check out the stuff that us old guys grew up with. I think all of this music was the beginning of what you guys listen to now.
Watch Johnny live, “Jumpin Jack Flash”, when he was rocking out, or “Be Careful With A Fool”, blues, blues, Texas Blues. Named as one of the best guitar players of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine. When he made it big he brought his little brother Edgar to be discovered. Both musical geniuses who played together sometimes, but had their own separate careers. Check out the live version of “ Frankenstein”. Edgar will REALLY blow your mind. Sadly for us, Johnny is gone, but what a legacy of music.
The Winter Brothers remakes of early Delta and Southern Blues did the music justice. They grew up in the Belmont Texas area playing at the local church. The gospel influences are strong.
Edgar Winter's big hit was "Frankenstein" which is easily available on youTube. ALL his music is both funky and soulful. His brother Johnny was the more straight ahead blues guy.
BROUGHT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (.......and then some..........)
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I’ve been begging to hear this forever. 1970 mind you! ❤️
That's my boys from Beaumont, TX. Edgar and Johnny Winter are albinos. They grew up indooirs because they couldn't go ourside and play in the hot sun. So they taught themselves to play everthing they could get their hands on. As a result you get what you see here. They could play the paint on the walls if it would make a sound. Definately do "Frankenstein" and maybe "Free Ride".
JOHNNY and EDGAR....bad boys for sure. ALBINO BROTHERS from East Texas and both in The BLUES Hall of Fame. Both playing instruments as young kids because they could not go outside and play in the sun being ALBINO. Were playing professionally at 9 years old in a bait camp. One of the brothers passed away in 2014. Both lived in Houston as adults. In the late 70's they had a #1 song called " Frankenstein" all instrumental. But yes they were some bad mama jammas!!!!
Oh I live in Houston too and know a little something about these cats!! Great REACTION BROTHER.
I really miss the winter Brothers. Albino awesomeness. You got to do Frankenstein wow wow
Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group..!!!!!!
Albino blues. Johnny and Edgar are so damn talented it's crazy. Johnny is one of the finest slide blues players around and Edgar is multi talented. My first concert was " WhiteTrash" with Johnny and Edgar, and Rick Derringer!
It's so true... these guys were off the charts... in another avenue by themselves!!! If you can believe they were, or felt to me at the time under rated, but I loved every song they creatively mastered!!!
This is what I grew up on if society just listened to music we would all be in tune!
You will never see a better live performance
I watched Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group and saw Edgar play the keyboard, sax, and drums then I watched this and Edgar is playing guitar as well. Johnny was in charge of this song.
These guys were and are some of the best American musicians ever.
Glad you reacted!
☮️❤️
Mind blowing
Johnny and Edgar Winter are 2 of the most important musicians of the 60s 70s and the 80s with out a doubt. Now do Ray Charles, please please please.
Two amazingly talented brothers
Great reaction to this performance...I think it came out in 70, in truth, it was to heavy for me at that time. I began to fully appreciate it years later. Thanks for not stopping the video.. Dr G
Hell yes, you loved it!
Pick up some Grand Funk Railroad any of their songs
Johnny & edgar were the BEST.
I've seen both. Unfortunately not together
Lol 😂 but still hey watta ya gonna do
Agree with you Allen, 100%.
Johnny on guitar was Stevey R. Vaughn's idol and mentor.
and he plays the drums too.❤
so glad they recorded this
Watching this made my morning. Yes, both Winter Brothers are/were beyond talented. Edgar on vocals, organ and sax shines in this one but Johnny was a guitar blues legend. He also produced albums for greats like Muddy Waters. They usually played separately but it's fun when they were together. The Edgar Winter Group does a live version of his song Frankenstein from 1973 but there's also a 20-minute version from this same concert you just watched that was called Frankenstein but is really only an earlier incarnation of the song. That's worth seeing as well because Johnny does some solo stuff there. Johnny was a mentor for SVR. Enjoy this rabbit hole!
Stevie Ray who
I can't believe you didn't stop once. These albino boys rocked me in 1973. I saw them in concert with 3 of my cousins. Now you need to listen to Frankenstein by Edgar winter group
I love these cats! A couple of albino brothers that, between them, learned every bloody instrument, how to sing, and apparently how to read each others minds. As a blues guitar player and singer, they represent everything I respect.
Yep, over and over again. I had to circle back to this one; first to hear the greatness and second to watch your reaction. One of the best live performances for us who love blues and jazz.
They said he could play any instrument placed in front of him. He is an amazing guitarist as well. The both are.
The album; Jasmine Nightdreams is a stellar showcase for Mr. Edgar Winter!! Any song!
I agree...this performance is off the chart.
Winter Bros. are blues legends. No other way to put it.
Please do more Johnny reactions and Edgar too. Thank You.
I was working security at the Houston airport back in 1974 and a guy set the metal detector off. He handed me his belt to go back through and saw it had "Derringer" embossed on the belt (it was a trendy thing to do back then in Texas) - I realized it was Rick Derringer who was a guitarist in the Edgar Winter Group (and later had the hit "Rock & Roll Hootchie Coo"). Then realized Johnny and Edgar Winter were standing there waiting to pass thru the scanner. I had one of those brain freezes and finally just blurted out "I love you guys". Felt like an idiot, but they were really nice.
loved your reaction it was genuine
Edgar organ sax vocals and Johnny guitar both amazingly talented
Johnny and Edgar Winter are insane musicians. I listen to them all through the 70s especially Johnny Winter but you must see Edgar Winter Frankenstein live if you have not seen it yet the guy on the keyboards was Edgar Winter. The long hair is Johnny they are albinos and they cannot stay in the light very long and they also have pink eyes are very different people and they are very great musicians.
Your next mission should you wish to take it is "Frankenstein Live by The Edgar Winter Band" Hold tight !!!!
Wilburn your reactions are the best, make no mistake. You really appreciate the music and the vibe. Keep it up bro.
If you watch Frankenstein you will see him..Edgar Winter..kill it on drums too!
I've seen Edgar twice in concert. He is a fantastic entertainer. 🤗❤👍
If you like that, you might enjoy Humble Pie's live version of "Black Coffee" featuring the "Blackberries"
Steve Marriott killin it!
great Blues....
One more for you young man.Maria Callas 1962 live in Hamburg Opera Do not be scared .even if you do not want to use it for reaction she's a Rock Star beauty sassy and wonderful world into opera
They are multi-talented albino twins. Both brilliant musicians. Amazing talent.
They’re not twins.Johnny is older than Edgar by a few years
The Winters Brothers. They take us all to school.
My dad took me to see this when I was 10. How could I ever like pop music after being raised on this kind of stuff?
Got to see Edgar with his band and Rick Derringer. ELO opened up the show. And wow what a show it was.
Edgar plays more than sax and organ! Watch Frankenstein! Any of their live videos will absolutely blow your mind!
This made me decide to subscribe ...The brother singing has passed away a little bit ago. Thanxa for this my man! Phenomenal. Might wanna try checking out Frankinstien by these guys. He practically plays all the instruments
Awesome!!! 😎
Great reaction to such a great song. Now you have to check out the Edgar Winter group doing Frankenstein live. Another one that will blow you away.
One of the best live performances ever. For a musician, this is so inspiring that it's crazy.
Thanks for doing this! I'm one of the requesters, and I knew you'd love it bc we evidentially have the same musical taste! ( Your favs are also mine). Since you also like SRV, you will be interested to know the bass player here is Tommy Shannon. He played Woodstock with Johnny Winter...and went on to be the bass player for SRV's band, Double Trouble. They were friends from when Stevie was 14 years old! Keep up the great reactions and music! Check out Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) "Evil Woman" and Carlos Santana "Black Magic Woman" when you can.
This is my first time seeing your channel. I subscribed immediately. This is my favorite video. I love the Winter Brothers. I saw Edgar live, 3 times. Try some of his solo stuff, Frankenstein, Free Ride.
Saw Johnny in little Rock. Lol. At the gutter. 😅 it's a bowling alley. Blew my mind. Maybe 100 people at the show nobody knew who he was. He layed some shit down. 😅😂
Now I remember , real music.
Edgar is a virtuoso!
Bordenaros didn't their repairs have a lot of talent going on cuz they sure brought some Talent into this world Edgar Winter is a musician died self Johnny Winters immunization by self wow anything they do come on absolutely amazing always heard the song many of times but
The definition of self-indulgent but so very good
you have been baptized into rock n soul _ nice rctn, thnx
💗 💖 💘 💝 💟... Awesome reaction!!! You're taking me back to my youth!! YES!!!!!!!!!!
When you hear this I go around other music if you don’t have anything to say don’t say at all this is great music
Ten Years After , Slow Blues In C , from the RECORDED LIVE album
He also plays guitar and drums. They were raised in the church in Texas🤟🤟🤟
Yes!, the double live tobacco road album showed everyone just how bad ass they were , got to see them live, people were picking their jaws up off the floor the whole concert. Absolutely spectacular!
Check out Edgar Winter "Frankenstein" live video. Edgar plays organ, sax, and timbales. Edgar and his late brother, guitarist Johnny Winter are albinos. They can see, but their eyes are very sensitive to light because they have no melanin.
Edgar & Johnny were a Tour de Force both boys meteorically talented, otherwordly performers. What you witnessed will not pass this way again soon. Your appreciation is your own graduation gift.
The Winter brothers (albino twins) couldn't play outside like normal kids because sun exposure would have been very harmful to them. So they stayed inside and learned music... playing multiple instruments each.
