Many of us got to enjoy these guys, and Janis, and Gatemouth, and George Jones. I went from there to Austin after Lamar and just kind of took it for granted that this was how you lived your life, surrounded by great music. They both were so brilliant... what Edgar does on both Hammond Organ & sax... and vocals... WOW... as always, the same for Johnny on that guitar - they both just burn on this classic...!
I used to wonder how two brothers both could exhibit such amazing musical talent until a friend remarked, “I guess there’s not much for albino aspiring musicians to do in Texas summers than to stay indoors and practice.”
☠️☠️😂😂I've just discovered Johnny Winter recently and I don't know how I haven't sooner. He was everyone's influence back in the day and a master of his craft 🤘🤘🍻
They did it quite often, they just never drew enough to play in big arenas so you likely didn't see that they were around. I saw them, together with Leslie West and Rick Derringer back in 2013, in a very small concert venue here outside Philadelphia, one of the hottest shows ever! I had seen them together several times before that. I saw Edgar last night at another small local theater and he still has it!
@@keithcurtis6671 By that time, they were both beyond their primes. I would have loved to see them stick together with this old lineup, but then we wouldn't have gotten to see guitarists like Derringer and Radford playing with the various bands.
I Have Never Had The Extreme Pleasure Of Seeing Or Hearing Them Play Together. Wow! Im Blown Away! What An ExTremene Amount Of Talent Between The Two Of Them!
Beaumont, Texas legends. Greatly underrated multi-instrumentalists. Noth Johnny and Edgar could play anything. Straight up bad asses. No one like those two, in all the world. We Texans love our Winters.👍☀️👍
Having been a young teenager during their popularity, I would disagree to an extent. We thought "Frankenstein" was the only song they had. But, I wasn't running with musicians at the time. They certainly were amazing.
Definitely. When I saw Edgar Winter play the strap-on keyboards, saxophone and timbales, I was amazed at what a virtuoso he was at all three instruments. And Johnny Winter's guitar skills....nothing further need be said.
Yummmm. Miss Edgar n Johnny born in 1961 my brother introduced me to both. Rest in peace David Cocciardi. Keep playing that jazz roll Edgar! Love your dedication album.
My first exposure to Johnny Winter was around 1967 (edit: 1969) in south Florida at the Seminole Indian Music Festival. It was a 3 day event with The Youngblood’s, NRBQ, Quicksilver... this particular night the announcer said “. We’ve got a guy here who is not scheduled to play tonight but he wants to play and get his name spread around so we’re gonna let him play for a while....here is is Johnny Winter”. Yes, we stood there in awe and history was made
@@knuckle47 I’m sure they are still around. In 1967, When I was going to school in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, they played at a place called the Joker’s Wild. I saw them again in Hollywood, Fla. in 1974, had some new members.
@@knuckle47 yes they were. I was 16 back then, junior in high school. Dad was yard super for Frecon concrete co. Came back to Hialeah and graduated HHS in ‘69. What a great time those days were!!
Ridiculously good. Edgar flying on the tenor sax and soul on the Hammond. Johnny will never be replaced. No one has that Texas blues style like he had. Way ahead of his time. They were just so good together!!
Dig the way he plays some of the same licks on sax that were featured in his earlier organ solo. Gifted cats. Maybe because of camera or mic placement, Johnny's guitar dominates the mix. But that's a good reason to appreciate his complimentary rhythm guitar chops and smoking solo. Johnny plays cool lines in context with the chord structure and weaves them seamlessly. His solos never get repetitive. Listen to 30 seconds of any SRV solo and you've heard every lick he knew.
Had the pleasure of seeing Edgar in Tucson he was touring with Leon Russell OMG what a show ❤ I'm 62 years old next Mon and I'm still jamming to these guys Rock and Roll FOREVER 🤟
I seen Edgar winter in the winter of 72 - 73 and his on core was Tobacco Road. What a treat it was and then humble pie took the stage. It was a night I will always remember.
folks i think this is testament to the importance of getting out and playing with other musicians... the Winter brothers were both out in their local Texas/Louisiana music scene at young ages soaking it in, developing their ears and honing their craft
Thank you RUclips & whoever loaded this amazing live recording!! We'll have it for History & All Time. It's just Magical to see them do this together, I could listen on a loop of this all day long!!
The Winter brothers are the most gifted musicians I’ve ever heard ... I do remember when young my school principal great Ruy introduced me to Johnny Winter it blow my mind , Ruy said I’ve heard you love the blues , man you’ve got hear this long hair albino guy with this rattlesnake cowboy hat he’s the best ever .... they are playing with future Double Trouble SRV’s Band .... man this is the best music I’ve ever heard .... thank you so much for posting . Australia 🇦🇺
Popular music experienced an evolutionary leap during this era. From a few sturdy blues roots it just improbably exploded, and no one had ever heard or played anything quite like it before. That was what made it so exciting for so many. This completely marvelous clip from 50 years ago is a wonderful example.
Not enough said about Johnny Winters. I heard him for the first time in the early 70's. There was nobody like him! Clear notes ringing out. He has to fit somewhere near the top in any best guitar player conversation. Thank you for posting my favorite song!
Two brothers that parralled each other both really loving the blue's but having mainstream Hits and becoming better known for it, but this is what they both really love and loved most of all and it shows. R.I.P. Johnny.
Some of the very BEST musicians to ever play....the music and showmanship speaks for itself Edgar's voice, keyboard playing and sax work is astonishing.Johnny is probably one of the most under rated guitar players of all time. The speed and accuracy and phrasing of his licks blow me away.
Johnny is playing a 1966 Epiphone Wilshire. I had one just like it, my first electric. Stolen from me around 1982. Loved that guitar! Those mini-humbucker pickups had a great sound. Mine sounded gritty as hell, reminded me of Page's Dragon Tele on Zeppelin's first album.
I started saxophone as a kid and have been playing professionally all my life, when I first saw Edgar play sax when I was 14 yrs old I was totally blown away by his saxophone playing (not to mention every other instrument). Even if saxophone was his only instrument, he was still one of the best players in this style EVER in the history of the horn in my opinion. But listening to this recording which I'd never heard before, I'm STILL totally blown away with his amazing ability on the horn!! Pure soul and amazing technique all over the instrument!! Best R&R alto player ever. True genius! Show less REPLY
I DIDN'T KNOW THIS VIDEO EXISTS!! WHOAAAA. I always love "Roadwork" album. It's a live album with an unmatched pure, raw, hot energy ever recorded. The Winters brothers are just exceptional and two of the greatest musicians everrr!
The very first rock concert I attended was Johnny & Edgar Winter at the Syracuse NY War Memorial when I was a round 15 yrs old in the mid 70's... I saw this done live and there has never been anything like it. Amazing talent!
Saw Johnny and Edgar Winter together in the mid-70s in Michigan Grand Rapids Water phenomenal show one of the best performances ever will never forget it
No hip hop racist i hate white people but i have no real talent autotune here folks. It is the real deal and i was there. I saw it with my own eyes. No one today can even play a musical instrument! Why do you fools keep listening to this schitt today?
I had the most beautiful pure white albino cat. He had one green, and one blue eye, so Thank God he could hear me. I named him after Edgar Winter. One if the best living buds I've ever had!
Ree, that's funny, I had a cat just like yours with long white fur and mismatched eyes, and yes we named him Edgar! I miss that cat, he had no fear; he used to curl up with our Saint Bernard and German Shepherd on their dog beds. He was a real good mouse killer too. Unfortunately he disappeared one day; we suspect the coyotes got him.
A few weeks after I saw Johnny in the 70's, I went to see Edgar. Back then, Rick Derringer played guitar for Edgar. For the last 5 or 6 songs, starting with "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo," Johnny came out and joined them. It was awesome. Over the years I caught Johnny a few more times.
I remember seeing Johnny and Edgar Winter, along with Eric Clapton and B.B.King And Muddy Waters!! Ted Nugent was in Chicago doing his own tour and showed up and was invited to jam as well! About half way thru the jam, Stevie Ray Von came on stage and blew us all away! I am so fortunate to have gotten the chance to hear all the great Blues men play!! Thank's guys for gettin me thru!!
Edgar your voice is one of few and It brings with It the goosebumps on my back killing It here with that long sustaining of vocal capacity you had achieved
Holy lord this is soul incarnate. Never heard just pure soul talent. Just put your speakers up to your ears and melt. This man was pure gifted, sorry I'm only learning about him now.
JW said his brother Edgar mastered so many instruments it was frightening. I envy folks who lived in that part of East Texas back in the day and got to hear the Winters regularly even before Johnny became a star in the middle of the 60s. I was in the rural Southwestern part of the state and didn't really hear the blues till I was 20 and going to college in Central Texas where I became enthralled by Jimmy Reed records, and then Lightnin' Hopkins. Then in 1967 I saw Johnny Winter play live onstage at a San Antonio concert. Those three, together with Robert Johnson, are still at the top of my personal pantheon of the blues. Please don't tell me about all the blues greats I need to hear; I've heard them and I love many of them, and my favorites are still those four.
So badass I never had heard much of there stuff other than Edgar Winter but bought a vinyl of Johnny's solo stuff and wow man he was up there with all the other Guitar Gods! His brother just as badass on vocals!

They both were so brilliant... what Edgar does on both Hammond Organ & sax... and vocals... WOW... as always, the same for Johnny on that guitar - they both just burn on this classic...!
This was one of my Dad's favorite. Only now I see why.
Edgar 's vocals are amazing. So nice to see him with his brother. What a shame they didn't do this more often.
Keith Curtis u.
u sound like their mother
1976 Johnny And Edgar Winter - Together
I Have Never Had The Extreme Pleasure Of Seeing Or Hearing Them Play Together. Wow!
Im Blown Away! What An ExTremene Amount Of Talent Between The Two Of Them!
True musicians playing many instruments These dudes can rock
Long live Johnny Winter and may he continue to play blues in heaven
Beaumont, Texas legends. Greatly underrated multi-instrumentalists. Noth Johnny and Edgar could play anything. Straight up bad asses. No one like those two, in all the world. We Texans love our Winters.👍☀️👍
So many astonishing blues musicians have come from Texas.
RESPECT!!!
Thats Not right. I always love Johnnys playing.
The Winter Brothers. The Vaughan Brothers. Music runs strong in Texas families. 🎶🎵🎶🎸🎶🎶
the winter brothers, still giving me goose bumps after all these years brilliant...
I'd say both Edgar and Johnny Winter were NOT underrated. Both achieved worldwide fame and huge success.
without a doubt !
@@charlesking5328 And they deserved every damn bit of it. Musical brilliance ran in that family.
The winter brothers will always be part of musical history!❤
Yummmm. Miss Edgar n Johnny born in 1961 my brother introduced me to both. Rest in peace David Cocciardi. Keep playing that jazz roll Edgar! Love your dedication album.
Edgar Winters Roadwork album is still one of the best live records ever.
+ursarex Dude, I agree! Check out Kansas 2 for the Show, double live album, right up there.
Indeed.....no fix in the mix, no overdubs, not to mention Jerry Lacroix singing HIS ass off....BEST EVER
is that a boot?
absolutely correct!!!
Yes
My first exposure to Johnny Winter was around 1967 (edit: 1969) in south Florida at the Seminole Indian Music Festival. It was a 3 day event with The Youngblood’s, NRBQ, Quicksilver... this particular night the announcer said “. We’ve got a guy here who is not scheduled to play tonight but he wants to play and get his name spread around so we’re gonna let him play for a while....here is is Johnny Winter”. Yes, we stood there in awe and history was made
I was there too!!!
Might have been early 1969…. Is NRBQ still playing so. Florida?
@@knuckle47 I’m sure they are still around. In 1967, When I was going to school in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, they played at a place called the Joker’s Wild. I saw them again in Hollywood, Fla. in 1974, had some new members.
Hey Frank. That sounds too cool…Bahamas! I was at Miami Palmetto Senior HS. Fun days for sure
They were just so good together!!
alto sax
Amen Mike
Dig the way he plays some of the same licks on sax that were featured in his earlier organ solo. Gifted cats. Maybe because of camera or mic placement, Johnny's guitar dominates the mix. But that's a good reason to appreciate his complimentary rhythm guitar chops and smoking solo. Johnny plays cool lines in context with the chord structure and weaves them seamlessly. His solos never get repetitive. Listen to 30 seconds of any SRV solo and you've heard every lick he knew.
Had the pleasure of seeing Edgar in Tucson he was touring with Leon Russell OMG what a show ❤ I'm 62 years old next Mon and I'm still jamming to these guys
Rock and Roll FOREVER 🤟
I seen Edgar winter in the winter of 72 - 73 and his on core was Tobacco Road. What a treat it was and then humble pie took the stage. It was a night I will always remember.
Thank god i grew up in the 60;s and 70' we had the best soundtrack WOW thanks for this video so awesome Just turned 68
Yes we did! Most of the shit today is garbage!
This is the first time I've ever given a thumbs up only 30 seconds into a video...
folks i think this is testament to the importance of getting out and playing with other musicians... the Winter brothers were both out in their local Texas/Louisiana music scene at young ages soaking it in, developing their ears and honing their craft
Thank you RUclips & whoever loaded this amazing live recording!! We'll have it for History & All Time. It's just Magical to see them do this together, I could listen on a loop of this all day long!!
There will never be, anything as beautiful and artisticly incredible as this!ever!✝️😍
RIP Johnny Winter, performed right up until he died.
Gotta love Edgar's vocals! It's so good that this early gig was professionally recorded.
This maybe be the standard for The Winters Brothers.
Thank you for this magnificent session.
Big fan
Popular music experienced an evolutionary leap during this era. From a few sturdy blues roots it just improbably exploded, and no one had ever heard or played anything quite like it before. That was what made it so exciting for so many. This completely marvelous clip from 50 years ago is a wonderful example.
I saw this very band for the first time at the Fillmore East I think I was 15 years old never could get enough of Johnny and Edgar after that
I hate the cold but these guys make me look forward to WINTER! What a great legacy these brothers have left.
Not enough said about Johnny Winters. I heard him for the first time in the early 70's. There was nobody like him! Clear notes ringing out. He has to fit somewhere near the top in any best guitar player conversation. Thank you for posting my favorite song!
Intensely unhinged musical greatness
Two brothers that parralled each other both really loving the blue's but having mainstream Hits and becoming better known for it, but this is what they both really love and loved most of all and it shows. R.I.P. Johnny.
Damn, I haven’t listened to this in several decades. God, amazing! So good!
Some of the very BEST musicians to ever play....the music and showmanship speaks for itself Edgar's voice, keyboard playing and sax work is astonishing.Johnny is probably one of the most under rated guitar players of all time. The speed and accuracy and phrasing of his licks blow me away.
>Johnny is probably one of the most under rated guitar players of all time
Where, on Mars?!
Q. How can one be almost out of breath just my listening? A. Hearing this intense version performed by such talented musicians.
Johnny and Edgar Winter have the most beautiful eyes. Those are two boys with soul.
THIS STUFF NEVER GETS OLD!!!👏🏻👏🏻💪💪. RÓCK IN PEACE JOHNNY🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸KEEP ON ROLLING EDGÀR🎬🎶🎶📯📯
One of the best performances i've ever seen. From anyone.
Two legends that have left their mark on the music industry.
Anyone who says Johnny isn’t tops in the good old USA is kidding themselves…..GOAT always was!

Give Ed the kudos he deserves, Please!! Two of the best musicians that ever walked!! Yay, John & Edgar!!
And his bro not to bad on the guitar....!!!
Brothers! Growing up together in the same household. Fabulous!
Wow
Love Johnny and Edgar so much! So much God-given talent ooozing out of them... it's just unreal.
LOVED IT --- BACK IN THE DAY --- STILL LOVE IT SOUNDS SO FRESH ! RIP JOHNNY --- LONG LIVE EDGAR, WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH THIS BROTHER COMBO !
The very first rock concert I attended was Johnny & Edgar Winter at the Syracuse NY War Memorial when I was a round 15 yrs old in the mid 70's... I saw this done live and there has never been anything like it. Amazing talent!
Word can't express how much I love these guys, the talent they exude is ridiculous and there's no one that comes close.
Saw Johnny and Edgar Winter together in the mid-70s in Michigan Grand Rapids Water phenomenal show one of the best performances ever will never forget it
I was at that same show. IT WAS KILLER
So refreshing to see monster musicians just let loose. No auto tune or studio tricks here!
So TRUE, and so much more and all the guitar work in this song, by todays standards it's really beyond belief.
No hip hop racist i hate white people but i have no real talent autotune here folks. It is the real deal and i was there. I saw it with my own eyes. No one today can even play a musical instrument! Why do you fools keep listening to this schitt today?
When you put your soul into it and not get paid much under rated guitarist also Johnny
think harder Perfect. Nailed it. Well done!
Auto-tune is in Edgar’s head; he knows where each note is and how to pull it from his head to his throat.
Oh my God! This is incredible ❤️.
I had the most beautiful pure white albino cat. He had one green, and one blue eye, so Thank God he could hear me. I named him after Edgar Winter. One if the best living buds I've ever had!
GREAT NAME !!!! Very lucky indeed that he could hear. Catals are where its at!
I thought you were going to say your cat plays piano. Made me realize I've seen way too many cat vids. :)
so what
Saw Johnny Winter open for Heart in 1978, in Charleston, SC. I love Heart but Johnny absolutely blew them off stage!
A lot of Malaysians must be thankful to Blues Gang for introducing us to the Blues. My friends and me surely are.
meeting Johnny was the only time I ever felt star struck in my life.
and that was 40+ yrs ago.
Wow! No words adequate to describe this performance!!
When? Where in Chicago? Awesome!
Did you every hit B.L.U.E.S. on Halstead?
Holy shit dude...!!!
Wow! Can't even imagine all those people on the same stage! How freakin cool! What a treasured memory to have.
wow
OMG. This is when music was REAL. Every band member played their own instrument of their liking. Of course they rocked out.
Edgar your voice is one of few and It brings with It the goosebumps on my back killing It here with that long sustaining of vocal capacity you had achieved
Thanks for sharing this gem, My God, we had so much talent and there will never be any better performance today, forget about it!
The Winters Brothers are very special to me, and very important to the blues. True players.
love it so much, unreal
💗 💖 💘 💝 💟 ☮️
Momma loved this
Holy lord this is soul incarnate. Never heard just pure soul talent. Just put your speakers up to your ears and melt. This man was pure gifted, sorry I'm only learning about him now.
I met Johnny at orlando rock fest easter weekend in bithlo & later partied with him in winter park wow what a good time it was in the 70's
I met Johnny and Edgar way back in the 60's.
