Hey Martin!
Thanks for the review video! This first bike project was definitely a learning process, and I appreciate all the feedback. If I did it again, I would definitely make many of the changes that you recommended.
Thanks again,
Elena.
Elena, you did a great job and I think you did a better job than most guys could have done out there. Love it.
Elena, good job and your bike looks very good :) Enjoy your "new" bike! I like the colour combination which you have chosen👍
Elena the Maker very good work!
How much did all the materials cost?
Elena the Maker brilliant result for first time! Most important question is - did you have fun? 😎 enjoy the extra speed a self-sprayed bike gives you!
"I couldn't find any DIY videos by someone like me, who'd never done it before"
I get what she's looking for - an idea of what it really takes for a beginner to do it - but surely that's not a good place to start. The professionals have gone through making all the mistakes, and trying lots of kit, so they're the best-placed to tell you what to do.
Love that you've taken the time to break this down, and that you haven't crucified her for the mistakes - so many experienced pros on RUclips are just critical of everything, and it's discouraging. Great to find someone who's positive and really wants to show everyone how they can do it themselves, but also what a real, professional paintjob can be.
I have no plans of painting a bike, but I still watched the whole video lol. When Martin talks, you listen xD
This convinced me that I will continue to pay someone else to paint my frames in the future. I don't have the patience needed to do this correctly.
Thank you both for sharing your knowledge!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏Bravo Martin!! Thanks a lot for this video! It was really needed.
Schrute Farms & Booger king... T-shirt game is strong on this one!!!
You mr Etoe gave me confidence to do things my self!thank you!💪
Thanks for all those advices again!
Thank you Elena for inspiration and Martin for tutorials, I think I am finally ready to diy paint my cyclocross bike I bought second hand few months ago. I bought it mainly because of the parts invested in it and I never was very satisfied with the looks of the frame.
Great video Martin as always. You have inspired me to spray my bike this summer 👍 keep the videos coming 😊
Funny...i just watched Elena's video this morning after coming across it by chance. I'm a red seal tech and paint in a body shop, spraying PPG. I actually have the Iwata WS400 evo as well for my clear gun. I have the LS400 for base along with a couple prolites. I've painted a handful of bike frames so far and am starting to do more and more. Very glad i came across your channel. Great to see the work of a professional since not many people around me can relate to the trade.
Vielen Dank Martin, dass du dein Profiwissen mit uns teilst. Bin schon gespannt auf dein Kompressor-Spraygun-Setup Video
Love your content. You deserve more subscribers.
Martin, loving your videos man.. Great vids. 😀
Love the vid man and how positive you are reviewing her video
Hey Martin, It's awesome that a bigger RUclipsr is taking time to check out other's work that happens to not be another big RUclipsr. I say that because this shows your genuine passion for your art and not two big RUclipsrs coming together just for the views and self-promotion. Your knowledge in this video was impressive, and on point I already had respect for you but I think that just grew a bit. Also, It's nice to see that Elena being pro-active, It's so common today that people don't think for a second about what they are doing and wonder why they get scammed. Even though this was Elena's first try and made mistakes at least she actually gave it a shot and learned a few things. It's actually refreshing to see content like this as it's so down-to-earth and genuine. FYI I don't blame her to be honest, here I've seen paint jobs for £200+ which is just plain ridiculous. But it isn't any different from any trade because the chances are you can do much cheaper. Overall awesome job to both yourself and Elena.
good work Elena!!!!!
I´ve learnt a lot from this video. Thks
Love your work 👍😍
How cool is it she took on the project.... awesome
I watch a lot of videos about him. Did everything correct and I paint now bikes on a regular basis for people like they came out of the factory.
Glad I watched this video today. Nearly finished sanding down my frame, but hadn't fully removed the decals. Guess some more sanding is required...
כול הכבוד - אחד הסרטים המקצועיים הטובים שראיתי לאחרונה
oh and its great that u are correcting all her mistakes but for a newbie and not being a professional painter i think she did pretty darn good... wish more Beautiful girls were into working with there hands.....:) Elena is awesome...
WHAT WHAT ... is that your living room? 🤣 ... ...that had me in shambles. Educational but funny AF at the same time.
I wish I would have came across this video two days ago; when I made my bike go from looking used to a crime scene
Hahahahahahah
Thank you very much of your Videos like this i learned a lot for a custom professional paintjob :)
Nice Video, it´s interesting for everybody who wants to do a Paintjob DIY style.
Professional Recomendations,thank you Martin.
Your Reaction at 10:30, einfach herrlich🤣🤣🤣+
Keep going.
NIce review Martin..super
Parabéns Elena 👍🚴 curtindo aqui do Brasil
I subscribed after 2 videos. Great channel.
As much as your first DIY video was good, this one is even better; cause I can see what she did wrong and what was the result; so if I get the same result I know how to rectify it then and there as opposed to two or three months down the road.
Martin can you give some info on those of us who might want to consider painting outside? Obviously you can't paint under the sunshine or in rain. But what should be the ambient temperature range and what to do about the wind?
Thank you Martin! ...you should have your own show on Discovery channel. You will improve its ratings!
"The fumes are very explosive" 😂😂😂😂😂
Great video.
Hi Martin. You are such a nice person. Your videoi review is very informative. Thank you.
You're welcome.
Martin Grey Hand of Master Artisan 🙏 Watching Your Video give me inspiration to paint also my MTB frame
I always wanted to get a custom painted bike. Too bad I'm too lazy to spend an entire week sanding and masking 😂I'll stick to factory black for now.
One of the most informative videos on airbrushing a bike frame. Well done Martin, great video.
i noticed the rough surface right from the start. thank you Martin for underlining using spray cans if you have no experience using spray guns. i will use cans in my first project of completely renewing my Focus Black Forest (2002). thanks a lot!
Any picture updates on your work?
Such a beautiful bike...
... it was ;)
the term you are looking for ,for the area round the bb is "orange peel",the paint looks like the skin of an orange.Great video from both of you
Martin, should you ever consider opening an Etoe University of Bicycle Arts, I'll be one of the first to enroll ☺️ Thanks for useful tips. Another great video!
Great video! How long should I wait with a wet sanding after putting a paint layer? I wait for the video with proper adjustment / setting of spray gun.
Watching from Russia.
Hey Martin, can you please do a DIY video on sanding and repainting a carbon rim? Pretty please :) keep up the great work
Please watch the videos where I painted bikes and rims like the hawaiian bike or the Sworks with the Lightweight rims.
...don't forget a dust mask for the paint removal /sanding process. A respirator mask is a different safety item. Dust mask is for dust only, the other mask is for vapor only. Also: don't sand where you will be spraying the paint or clear coat, use TWO different areas, obviously. I like Martins idea of a simple home-made paint-booth I will give that a go, if my friends booth is not available. Elenas color-sense and design is way better than most commercial designs and paint-styling you see in the world. Perhaps Martin should do a bike using Elenas' design. You two are great, thanks for sharing your information and knowledge.
The maks used have a dust filter in front of the A2 filter. Also pait contains a lot of dust not only vapor. So please use every time a dust vapor combination when painting.
Thanks for this great description of how to create a paint booth; I want to build one one outside. What type of filtering is needed? Is there a link to an example that you recommend? Thanks for all your wonderful videos; I learn so much! I also appreciate that you are irreverent and funny without being unkind; such a great balance!
When using spray cans, do you have recommendations on using a heat gun to speed up drying between colors?
Hi Martin,
I’m following your videos since a while and do like what you’re doing and kinda support people by your own DIY projects.
Can you recommend a transparent spray can primer working for a track-bike carbon frame with aluminum endings?
I've done my paint job fade ferrari red black concept, after spraying primer silver coating i, sand it with 1000 then apply my 2nd coat black lightly only then after 30mins I'd sand it again with 1000 sand after that when it got smooth finish base color with black and 2 coating red front to back fade
I only want to remove the white logo on the downtube from a matte black carbon frame. Do I only need to sand it as in the video, or do I need to put something on after to protect the frame if I only want the matte black finish?
Hi Martin. Do you have any recommendations for the filter material? Love your videos, learned a lot from it!
Use a typical air intake filter for a paint booth. I buy rolls of 50m or 100m. Much too expensive for DIY Guys. So I can not recommend my filters.
Hey MARTIN In other DIY spray can video you do, you wet sand 800G between clear coats also you have previously used 2k clears over Montana paints. Is 2k clear for acrylic base coats? Or is it only certain ones? Also is the to wet sand between clear coats always needed either DIY OR PRO and why? Also can you make some DIY Videos on spraying custom components eg CRANKS, Stems, seat posts, hubs and fixing bolts for these pieces eg silver bolts to black or eg a black seatpost that is all scratched how to do a blended/ repair/ refurbished paint finish all at the same tim making sure to discuss how to make the end product paint as factory durable for the particular parts as the tend to cop the most abuse when riding! Martin you simply are the greatest RUclipsr and the world’s greatest custom painter THANK YOU KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK
hahaha booger king nice one i like that.
Hi Martin,
I'm planning on painting an aluminium frame, the head / down / seat -tube triangle is gonna be red while the rest of the frame will stay bare aluminium. Is it possible to paint over the bare aluminium with a clear coat after polishing it so it doesnt corrode or will the clear coat only stick to paint. (I'm using spraymax 2k clear coat)
Polishing the metal and then spraying clear coat will not create good adhesion but aluminum should not get corroded either way
Hey Martin, the term you were looking for for the rough texture it's orange peeling. Most of the time I hear that in relation to auto body panels with a rushed paint job or improper setup.
Vaun Killion on a lot of cars they want to have some orange peel so the paint looks better when its not clean.
@@tamastenhaaff2291 you mean the texture in a car paint from factory? All new cars have texture more or less, they are never painted like a piano finish, i guess then you have to sand it after every coat etc...
Dan barb that is true. But with just the paint a lot of manufacturers could get is a lot smoother but they choose not to. Just becuise you cant keep a piano finish clean on a car
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 nice
so do you sand after one finishing clear coat then spray another clear coat ?
great vids... just i think u guys should learn to use orbitals and other auto sanders to get bulk of the work done once u learn how to use those type of sanders it will save u tons of time. It is an art in a way to be able to use power sanders and def not easy but its worth it....
Just want to ask, how long should i wait before i wet sand after finishing 3rd coat of primer
It never ceases to amaze me how many people say they dont wanna pay pro prices, but then if you sit down and ask yourself how much investment goes to into a workshop, then you begin to see you are getting charged a fraction of the true cost, plus the fact that the guy doing it probably was paid peanut's for years before making any money
How many times do I get asked what's the cheapest price...(sent from my iPhone 11)
?? Can we have some how to be a solicitor videos on RUclips.. cos it's easy right?
I really like Martin, watch the vids and he's a top bloke, but pro advice takes time, stick to spray cans people.. but remember technique is everything, not materials..
8:37
Hey Martin, please tell me, is there a reason you sand by hand and don't use tools(like power tools, sanders, etc) to sand the frame ?
Love your channel, keep up the great humor and awesome content !
If i may answer;
Sanding by hand makes it so you remove material more evenly across the surface. With a sander you can easily blow through a layer when unlucky. Doing it by hand also allows you to spot errors/missed spots. Missing a spot is a pain in the ass, especially if you notice it too late.
Power tools usually leave patterns. Sanders usually makes the grit you use a bit 'finer' in result. But they're terrible for preparing bike parts.
Sanding tools are super handy for flat surfaces; or surfaces with slight concave or convex. But for bike frames; tubing, rounded edges, nooks crannies and corners, a sander just isn't practical.
insanebmxthomas Especially on Carbon Layups. It doesn’t take much to go through the clear epoxy to the actual carbon matrix- even by hand. Do that, and you’re sacrificing the structural integrity, and no. Amount of lipstick and mascara will fix that.
Sonde compraste el panel trasero retroiluminado?
Inspite of all of her mistakes, you gotta admire her passion 😀
Wowo
do you recommend IR heaters for paint curing?
What are your opinions on the product spray dot bike?
Спасибо за полезные комментарии в видео от автора!
Hi there, i have skretches on my bike where the colored got peeled off by a kid chair, how to correct those parts without having to repaint the entire Bike!?
Thanks !
Rough surface description could be orange peel effect 👍🍊
Hi Martin, what do you think about the LVLP Auarita 1,4mm (TEFLON edition) which I will attach it to a 85L compressor and spray using metallic color? One source said that LVLP is not for metallic colors. Do you agree?
Her croak is developing nice. Keep practicing honey
Hi ETOE! I need name camera you used!? Thanks!
Any suggestions for city folks who don't have a dedicated space to spray paint? Will doing it outside in a parking lot or in a park have to much debris in the air?
If I would have been patient and watched the whole video I would have seen that you answered the question already loll. Thank you.
So, my plan to spray paint in my Machine Room with my Natural Gas furnace... Good idea, or bad idea? I mean, its the warmest part of the house and it would cure quick. But if I’m at risk of blowing up, I should maybe have another option?
yo sigo buscando clear coat en chile y me animo a hacerlo
I think for someone who is just doing it for a first time she went above and beyond what normal people would do. Most people would not buy a gun or compressor
What kind of printer you use for sticker ? Thanks..
Bummer! I too am doing a DIY, and I have been desperately trying to preserve the factory decals, since I can not re produce them, but @ 7:14 you explain why that is not recommended.
gracias ´por los consejos!!! podrias poner subtitulos en español, por favor.
Paint always looks good a few meters away.....not so when very near.IMHO
Hi Martin. I'm wondering since you can paint great result with spray can. What does a professional spray gun can do that a spray can can't?
Better quality and durability.
What kind of tape do you recommend for the masking ?
Masking tape
Hey Martin, how much bar do you need for that spray gun?
Pressure is not the point it's the amount of air running through the gun. A big gun needs approx. 270 to 500 l depending on nozle and needle combination.
Is her celling now is also flat black?) It looks like she didn't cover it.
I was wondering about this too...and the lights...
WELCOME AGAIN AT MY PINT SHAWP
Yo Martin, with those headphones you should be laying down some tracks! Maybe you've missed your true calling? Stop mixing paint and start mixing dem tunes bruv🎧🎶
Hi Martin and all. I have a 4k carbon fiber frame from 2008. Giant TCR to be exact. If I sand it down to the bare carbon fiber, is it possible to mess it up in any way?
I see you sand all the frames down but but I don't think I've seen you do it with one with a 4k pattern on it.
Thanks,
Simeon
Yes you can ruin a carbon frame doesn't matter what carbon layers it has.
@@ETOE , and would you in any way sand down older carbon frames differently than the ones in your videos? Which look pretty new, or at least not 12 years old.
Thanks,
Simeon
Hi sir Martin can you make tutorials on how to create stensil logo. Thanks
I think he did, check it out
Can you paint metalic paints with 1.0mm nozzle guns?
Yes.
Romania here :)
martin . what type/brand of paint do you use on bikes?
Supermeme brand
I'm confused. In other video (painting helmet with spray cans) , you saying that you can apply (on acrylic color) masking tape on layer after 5 - 10 min. There you recommend 2 - 3 days...
But, thank you for your comment, very helpfull
Im doing it pro she does it DIY. If you are a pro 5-10min if you doit DIY 2-3 days.
Painting a frame with a „mini gun😳“? Wouldn‘t a .50 cal be sufficient for the job? Joke aside, great reaction video. One day I‘ll try my luck with a diy paint job on my frame as well. I feel more and more confident by watching your tutorials. Viele Grüße aus Hamburg🤘.
Hei Martin!
Love your videos! I have a question, do you have any product you recommend for air ventilation? And filters ? If possible the cheapest one, i’m learning. I mean I don’t know what to buy!
Thanks !
Air ventilation = health. Yeah give me the cheapest one I don`t care about my f****** body!
Absolutely true! I expressed it bad. I mean a good ventilation system not thousands of euros! Cause I don’t have that budget
@@SebastianoGorgosalice You have no clue what you are talking about. A simple paint booth costs 15.000$, a good paint booth 50.000$. If you don`t want to invest money, buy yourself some foil in the hardware store and a fan. That causes maybe a bad explosion of the solvents in the air and I do not recommend any of that, because it can be lethal. And I don`t want to pay because of a comment and a fu***** lawyer after you are gone to heaven or hell.
Okei I got it! I was only trying understand how to and what I have to use! Thanks for your time man
I appreciate you answer me
I don't get why the rainbows on the wheels are in opposite directions. Is that on purpose or a mistake?
Martin, firstly your content is always great, hopefully more coming soon? 😉😁 If using a mini spray gun what volume compressor should be used?
Soy un profesional x que ví todos los mosmos errores 🤣
