- First attempt at Shiva HM with all but the BGM muted. This is the good one, before DIamond Dust and things start to go sour. I'm wanting to say the track's called Dreams of Ice, but don't know for sure so lemmie know.

The moment this music starts during one of the Heavensward cutscenes near the end of the story I just got goosebumps... That cutscene was absolutely spectacular!
You are correct! That scene hit me more emotionally than any other, except that Nanamo scene which made me really angry!

I wouldn't say Oblivion was bad but Footsteps in the Snow really does capture the elegance and power that Shiva has. Plus after a certain scene in Azys Lla I don't think I will ever hear this song the same
I like how Return to Oblivion, rather than being a remix of Oblivion, instead draws far more heavily from Footsteps in the Snow. It feels a lot more like you're fighting the embodiment of an eternal ice age.
I get chills at 1:29. Her rising from the ground and then spiraling in the air with the background music fits so perfectly.

I only now realise how threatened she felt if she summoned Shiva to fight the WoL. She feared for her followers and her cause and it just goes to show how pure hearted she was from the start.

I'm so glad that they used this for certain scenes in the expansion and not the second phase theme. The former fit perfectly - the latter would not.

That part at 1:00 no matter how many times I listen it never stops being as epic as possible.
The theme represents the duality of Shiva. The first half is Shiva the Primal, hard edged, cold hearted. The second half is Lady Iceheart. Its more emotional and desperate. She's turned to this as her salvation.
there is a duality to it and its open to interpretation. mine being the first part is about her people (Ishguard) turning their backs on her and the second part is about her not fearing death and instead becoming it a sad story made into song to be sure. but again its just my opinion everybody has and is entitled to one. sorry if that sounds harsh i dont mean it to be read as such.
I'm inclined to believe that it actually symbolizes the cold exterior of Shiva, but then the second phase begins and shows the more passionate and emotional side, where Shiva's true and benevolent nature shines through. After all, I can't recall a single Final Fantasy that I've played where Shiva was actually cruel or evil, on the contrary, Shiva is commonly portrayed as one of the gentlest and most compassionate of all 'summons', something she shares with Ramuh, and usually Bahamut as well. While others like Ifrit and Titan tend to 'zig-zag' with them sometimes being portrayed as good (or neutral, but are summoned by good people), but are also at times portrayed as evil.
Of course, things are rarely so crystal clear, particularly in Final Fantasy, which to it's credit adds quite a bit of complexity to the characters involved in the story.
More like how you can ruin an epic theme. I don't care how amazing the lyrics on the second one are, and Yes I speak Japanese. But the 2 don't mix. Sorry but no.
@@rickb.1699 If that's what you think, maybe you should spend some time with the other Final Fantasy games and find out how perfectly in sync this duality is with their tradition of mixing old and new, classical and electronic, ecclesiastical and hard rock. It's a subjective thing, but to most FF fans, it couldn't have been more perfect.
On point with this observation. ✨ When I heard this I was floored by the intensity and the contrast of the pleading in the piano. Love it so much.
This song is so epic. It really feels like u r battling something grand and dangerous - an aeon. And the piano feels rly icy and crystalic :D awsm

Easily one of THE best pieces of music in all of Final Fantasy, let alone Final Fantasy XIV. It's epic and drives the fight. From the instant it starts, you know it's about to go down.

I loved this fight, sometimes the AoE's where hard as hell due to them being blue on a blue floor with many other flashing colours happening at the same time

The fact that Shiva in Eden looks exactly like Ysayle just reflects how much the WoL missed her and regarded her as a true companion and not as a primal.

Anyone else notice this and Oblivion don't appear on the Heavensward OST? Are these on a different CD than the base OST?
They appear on the 'Before the Fall' soundtrack, most likely, seeing as these tracks came out before Heavensward released.

phase 1 part sounded so beautiful, so powerful, moving & (for a lack of a better word since its overused so much) epic. it was amazing. I was hopin they followed this orchestral part into phase 2 with something even more amazing. but.. no... its as if they hired a garage band to do phase 2 music

I know is a super controversial take and probably the most unpopular opinion in the entire universe, but I like the phase one music better then phase two.
i agree. I actualy really disslike the phase two ost. I Never use the mount because I disslike the song so much. first phase is really amazing.

i don't exactly hate phase 2 but it just sounds like a boring 2007 flyleaf or paramore song. phase 1 is so much more beautiful I was hoping it would be something similar but more intense in phase 2... :/
the phase 2 sound I liked, but not the voice actor singing it, pop rock could of worked if the singer didn't sound like a teenage punk rocker and had more..... whisper in her voice to make it sound more.... chilled maybe?

When you think of ice, you dont think of a hesteric girl screaming in your ear, you think of a nice melody that can be both relaxating and epic at the same time, the first part is really good. The second i cant bring myself to hear, always mute.
I really disliked the second phase. I believe they could have made more effort on that since they made a lot of effort on everything else about her. But love this part!
To be fair though... people said that about Leviathan's and Ramuh's phases too, but I think they all fit their respective primals and when given time many agreed. I really think Shiva's second theme sounds nice, especially when the party gets frozen and the second phase starts as it crushes, really fitting. Just my opinion but oh well :)
