I dont blame these people, infact what they did is called self determination,, the Black Consciousness movement also wanted this, at the 1994 negotiation tables the people of Orania walked away with land in hand, and what has the ANC given black people? Kwaito shows, teenage pregnancy social grants, low level education, social distances, load shedding and gender neutral bathrooms.

It is not littered with "old South African flags". Orania has its own flag of a young boy rolling up his sleeves, signalling that we have to work. It has the same colours as the old Dutch flag under which Jan Van Riebeek founded the Cape refreshment station in 1652.

Orania is not a whites-only town. The South African law allows a group of people to form a settlement if they want to preserve their culture/language. That's why Orania is specifically for people of Dutch origin, called Afrikaans. So even a white South African of British origin can't live there. They speak Afrikaans there, but can speak English too. Non-Afrikaaners are allowed to visit but can't stay.

People don't speak about all the other settlements similar to this, for example: Nkandla. People speak about Orania because it's residents are white. Orania is not for the nostalgia of Apartheid as the media claims(proven by research and interviews) instead its against British Imperialism and the protection of the Dutch culture in South Africa. I as a white person in South Africa am not allowed to live their because I am of British/Lebanese descent.
Any other person not of Dutch descent can live there but it is inevitable that you will get kicked out of the homestead not just by the Oranian residents but the South African Police as well because you are breaking the law.

Thanks Thabang - I'm white, I live in Johannesburg. I don't have the foggiest idea where Orania is - and I CERTAINLY will not go there. The broad picture is that there are 4,5 million whites in South Africa, and 2,500 people (whites?) in Orania. It sounds like an absurd place - but you are absolutely right - it really is time we stopped doing what the rest of the world wants us to do, based on their own cultures and 'knowledge'.

You should go and visit there. You will be treated with respect, no matter what race you are. I stayed over on a trip, and I am glad I did. But I don't want to stay there. I hope our government can learn from Orania. Unfortunately they send huge groups of ANC officials on "business" trips to Cuban and Malaysian towns to "study" successful town. Flying first class, staying in expensive hotels with family and friends, all paid by the South African tax-payers.

These people do not pay taxes, they do not produce anything in this water rich environment, except palm wine for own consumption, they get a government allowance, and their traditional "king" gets a huge salary, paid for by tax-payers. This is not private property like Orania. No schools, one small shop, one tourist lodge who pays rent to the king. The people of Orania build their own schools and roads. They farm in a arid environment and produce food for all races. They pay taxes to the national government. No arson at the university, no riots, no arson at the municipality buildings. No litter.

In 1991 they started with 60 people. By 2010 they had 700. In 2022 they have 2500 residents.

The town was originally built for people working on a dam, after completion nobody wanted to live there anymore and the government tried to sell it to the police and military, but they said it was too far away from anything. Eventually SABRA (South African Bureau for Racial Affairs) along with AVSTIG (Afrikaner Freedoms Establishment) with Professor Carel Boshoff made the plan of creating a nation state for the Afrikaner and bought the town which became Orania with 150 other people at R500,000 exactly because of its rural location.

Dingaan was murdered by the king of Swaziland.
