    Thanks for walk through.
3 points that may be helpful.
    1) Removing the screws requires a #00 Phillips head screwdriver. I suggest you resist the urge to use a tiny flat blade screwdriver because that or a larger Phillips head can easily tear up the slots in the screws.
    2) The interior of the earpiece might be slightly different than the video but all the important pieces are in the same position.
    3) A tweezers will be quite useful in replacing the ribbon connector and putting the screws in place. (My fingers are just too bulky to do this easily.)

Excellent video, thanks for posting. I have the earlier 1000x and made the mistake of going out to the mail box in the rain without thinking. 15 mins after, they stopped working. With your video, I was able to disassemble quickly and remove the battery. Then left to dry for 48 hours, and still no luck. Then sprayed 90% alcohol around except speakers and mics, then left to dry for 48 hrs. Then, it worked!

I disconnected the battery and that fixed it for one power cycle. Then it wouldn't charge again. However, holding in the power button while inserting the charging cable did something quite magical and now it's charging again. Dude seriously...THANK YOU! My unit wouldn't charge. It stated that its at 20%. Once plugged in, the led stays red for 10 minutes or so and then turn off. When I turn on the headset it immediately tells me that my battery is low. I tried every single USB-C cable and every charger and every computer with the same result. I was seriously going to just throw these away. Well after watching this video I decided I have nothing to lose since warranty is over so I unplugged the battery as instructed, left it alone for 10 minutes. Plugged it back in and immediately turning it back on and its at 100% charge. Keep it up man...you saving a lot of people money.

Thanks for the video. I had the issue where, instead of charging and having a solid red light, the red light would flash continuously. After disassembling, I found the light could stay on solid if I wiggled the temperature sensor (the part held down by the first tape - the orange tab touching the battery). This is true even with the battery unplugged. Tracing the sensor cable back to the board, it was apparent one of the solder joints was only making intermittent contact. A little more wiggling and it came off entirely. I resoldered the sensor onto the board and now it charges perfectly.
Also it looked like the wiring had been factory reworked (poorly), so seems like Sony has some quality control issues. Very disappointing.

Alright I just fixed my headset what I did was I first went through the non hardware invasive steps none worked then (if this is the case for you its most likely a hardware problem and not a software problem ) i decided to open up the headphone with some screwdrivers first i did the right side where the battery was (thought it might be a dead battery) and disconnected it for 15 minutes then plugged back in but that did not work as has been recommended by a few to do and work it did not in my case however.
What worked for me was i opened up the left side where the power button is and just messed around a little bit with the cable and applied a bit of pressure here and there and tested the power until I found the so called "sweet spot" and some reason that fixed it might be the same case for some other folks out there lose cable might need to resolder it if you have the tools and skills but for me just a simple reopen and pressing around fixed it might help you too if these simple steps didn't worked in this video.
At the end of the day it just seems to be (at least in my case) a few cables out of place inside the case or pressure just over time from maybe dropping or just general daily use that made it kind stop powering on, but try it to these steps first before buying a brand new battery it might just save you a few bucks.

Just to add on, instead of waiting 15mins for circuits to discharge, you could also just hold the power button, like you would when dealing with a PC.
The basic idea is you want to discharge the capacitors for safety and so any volatile memory is cleared.

Ugh, unfortunately the new battery didn't fix the problem, when I plug up the charger the charging light turns red for about 3 to 4 minutes then just goes off. Power wont turn on. When i press the power button occasionally it will give a very quick blue flash that you can barely see cause it happens so quick. When I place the headphones against my phone to connect by NFC the headphones vibrate each time but the power never turns on to connect to Bluetooth. Been using my Taotronics BH046 as my backup headphones for about a week now since I've had them over a year and never used them.

    • @ryannrjohnson
      @ryannrjohnson 2 года назад +2

Nevermind, I decided to open up the other side of the headphones to see if there was a problem and I found it. I detached one of the circuit lines and pushed it back in place but no results. Then I placed it in about 75% of the way and voila, my headphones powered on. It must be a defect in mine because that panel isn't lining up with the connection perfectly for some reason so I have to leave it partially out, but it's working so. I may try and find a new circuit line once I figure out what it's called and purchase one to see if it's just a bad line or an actual defect.

My XM3's seem to be charging but won't turn on. Sometimes I've managed to get them to turn on by doing the "hold both buttons while charging" reset but recently they just don't turn on at all.
Yesterday I took them apart for the first time and when I took apart first the right and then the left headphone they magically turned on and worked flawlessly for several hours. I could turn them on and off, everything seemed to be working.
Then I turned them off and the next day they were back to not working.
I thought it was the battery but I'm not sure, since they turned on by themselves when I had the left earcup opened.

Hello. There are a number of possible reasons the headphones won't turn on:
      1) The charging port itself could be damaged/faulty. Here is a walkthrough on how to replace that: ruclips.net/video/GmfoTpZiX9U/видео.html
      2) The power button could be damaged. I do not have a video on how to replace that but it does not require soldering so it's a fairly straightforward repair.
      3) The main board could be damaged. This is a case where unfortunately I would recommend replacing your headphones. The repair process for the board is very complex and has a low success rate (in my experience).
      Best of luck!

Apparently my battery is dead, so I just ordered a new one. Gotta love when you only get about 1.5 years of usage out of $350 headphones. I probably should have stuck with the Bowers & Wilkins headphones I had before these since they were built way better and had physical controls, but they were really heavy.

It's a fairly common problem of headphones not turning on on XM3 after it had a light fall or tumble. This is because of wires becoming loose near the motherboard of the headphones. To fix this, just follow the instruction on a Reddit post regarding the same. It involves doing the same thing but on the left side of the headphone.
