Excellent video, thanks for posting. I have the earlier 1000x and made the mistake of going out to the mail box in the rain without thinking. 15 mins after, they stopped working. With your video, I was able to disassemble quickly and remove the battery. Then left to dry for 48 hours, and still no luck. Then sprayed 90% alcohol around except speakers and mics, then left to dry for 48 hrs. Then, it worked!

Oh wow, thanks for a good guide. I was having such a headache trying to figure out the rattling I heard in my right earcup. It was almost like something was noticeably loose in there and with the help of this video decided to open it. Turned out that a hair had found its way all the way there and was resting against the speaker element. Took it out with tweezers and the problem went away, just like that, wow!

Dude seriously...THANK YOU! My unit wouldn't charge. It stated that its at 20%. Once plugged in, the led stays red for 10 minutes or so and then turn off. When I turn on the headset it immediately tells me that my battery is low. I tried every single USB-C cable and every charger and every computer with the same result. I was seriously going to just throw these away. Well after watching this video I decided I have nothing to lose since warranty is over so I unplugged the battery as instructed, left it alone for 10 minutes. Plugged it back in and immediately turning it back on and its at 100% charge. Keep it up man...you saving a lot of people money.

    Thanks for walk through.
3 points that may be helpful.
    1) Removing the screws requires a #00 Phillips head screwdriver. I suggest you resist the urge to use a tiny flat blade screwdriver because that or a larger Phillips head can easily tear up the slots in the screws.
    2) The interior of the earpiece might be slightly different than the video but all the important pieces are in the same position.
    3) A tweezers will be quite useful in replacing the ribbon connector and putting the screws in place. (My fingers are just too bulky to do this easily.)

Had the blinking red LED warning indicating the headphones were charging at an abnormal temperature,. This happened out of the blue and I knew the headphones had not been damaged in any way, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery entirely like this video shows was the only way to resolve this issue so thank you! I had the blinking red LED as well, which stopped the headphones from charging. In my case, the contacts for the temperature sensor on the battery had popped off their solders. If you're reading this comment, your XM3s are very old. The glue holding the battery in place is 1000% more sticky than in this video as a result. Fair warning, if you remove the battery, you will probably destroy it. So only do this to replace the battery. If you just want to try his technique of removing it and plugging it back, unplug the battery but leave it in place while discharging.

Hi I followed your video exactly which was great and very clear. I changed out the battery on a set of XM 4 headphones which seem essentially the same (as far as I can tell)as the Xm3, and when I plug it into the charger the charging light still does not come on. The unit is little over a year old. Any other suggestions? Thanks so much

Before I did manipulation with the unplugging the battery, by pressing the power button there was blue light. But now - there is no light at all…
Literally they felt from like 20cm hight, 1 time and do not work any more
There was no problems with battery life or so…

thx mate, I followed your advice to first disconnect the battery and then reconnect and charge, battery was full after 10 minutes charge, will test if it stays that way, all the best (after 5 minutes.....it stopped working again. same issue. not reacting to buttons.....maybe need to change the battery. (Update, when I wait, then charge it then sometimes after a 5 minute charge it goes on again and I can use it like normal, but then after a minute or so it stops again and doesnt react, seems a pcb problem from the battery (battery has a pcb). I will order first a new battery , then open the old one to see if battery of pcb is bad, put the new one inside and see if it solves my problem

    Hey thanks!
I try what you suggested and I waited arround 10 mins with the battery unplugged, after that I placed everything in order and turned them on and they worked perfectly.
I try to charge them up but the led blinks in red, I not sure if they are charging properly or not.
The app says that they are already in 100% percent.

  • @ryannrjohnson

Ugh, unfortunately the new battery didn't fix the problem, when I plug up the charger the charging light turns red for about 3 to 4 minutes then just goes off. Power wont turn on. When i press the power button occasionally it will give a very quick blue flash that you can barely see cause it happens so quick. When I place the headphones against my phone to connect by NFC the headphones vibrate each time but the power never turns on to connect to Bluetooth. Been using my Taotronics BH046 as my backup headphones for about a week now since I've had them over a year and never used them.

    • @ryannrjohnson
      @ryannrjohnson 2 года назад +2

Nevermind, I decided to open up the other side of the headphones to see if there was a problem and I found it. I detached one of the circuit lines and pushed it back in place but no results. Then I placed it in about 75% of the way and voila, my headphones powered on. It must be a defect in mine because that panel isn't lining up with the connection perfectly for some reason so I have to leave it partially out, but it's working so. I may try and find a new circuit line once I figure out what it's called and purchase one to see if it's just a bad line or an actual defect.

I think too powerful chargers can cause this fault. I have a workaround for this, use normal charger and press quickly both buttons if the red light disappears. repeat until it stays on (can take a few attempts)

Thanks for the video. I had the issue where, instead of charging and having a solid red light, the red light would flash continuously. After disassembling, I found the light could stay on solid if I wiggled the temperature sensor (the part held down by the first tape - the orange tab touching the battery). This is true even with the battery unplugged. Tracing the sensor cable back to the board, it was apparent one of the solder joints was only making intermittent contact. A little more wiggling and it came off entirely. I resoldered the sensor onto the board and now it charges perfectly.
Also it looked like the wiring had been factory reworked (poorly), so seems like Sony has some quality control issues. Very disappointing.
