Just received my replacement pair of WF-1000XM4 they sound a lot better and it's updated software sounds great will see about the charge and see how long it lasts..
Nice video I don't know but I used my replacement ones and the charger last for 8hour and my left headphone said it was getting low I'm very impressed time will tell..
Hey Aaron I have finally found a solution for maximum equal battery life on both Earbuds. The settings are as follows :- 1) open the headphones app go to status and turn off adaptive control 2) Go to bluetooth tap on the setting icon beside the wf1000xm4 and turn off LDAC. 3) Open the app go to Sound then turn off ambient sound control and speak-to-chat 4) Open the app go to system >change the touch sensor function click on the setting icon >on the left bud select playback control and on the right bud also select the playback control. 5) Open the app go to Sound and turn off DSEE extreme. 6) Open the app go to Sound > Bluetooth connection quality and select priority on stable connection. By applying all these settings your both Earbuds will be able to drain it's battery slowly and simultaneously... Please do try these settings and give it a quick test. I know you won't be able to fully enjoy the other features but for a daily user like me it's giving the best optimal results. Thanking you in anticipation.
It’s so bad now that I have stopped trying to fix them! They were just over a year old and I will not risk paying Sony a dollar more in sending them in for repair out of warranty! A real shame because they were excellent up until that last firmware update. 😢
@@Amari588 funny thing, originally bought from Amazon with two year warranty …….. Amazon just replaced mine with brand new!!… sent defective ones back to Sony….. You’ll probably get them as refurbs!!
I contacted Sony regarding the same issue with my headphones, which are nearly 2 years old. After a recent update, both sides began experiencing problems. Sony's response was that the repair would incur a cost because they need to replace the battery. It's unacceptable for a company like Sony to have a chronic defect in premium, high-cost equipment and still charge the user for the repair. While I don't expect a lifetime warranty, I'm clearly not the only one affected by this issue, which was caused by an official update. I will dispose of these headphones and refrain from purchasing any Sony products in the future.
Had the same issue with mine, I bought mine in 12/2022 and same model as in the video. The app just recently updated to the new name (from Headphones to Sound Connect) on or around (9/26/2024) and recently the right ear bud has been dying or discharging faster than normal. Today it only lasted 20 minutes, contacted Sony and they are going to replace the earbuds. So I'm glad they're doing the right thing.
I've been experiencing the same issue, except on the left bud. I also bought mine @ release & they worked fantastically, until they didn't. I typically use LDAC, and up time ranges from 10-20 minutes. I dropped down to AAC & have seen a minor improvement. I haven't timed them, but they went longer than 30 minutes. I've also noticed on many occasions the left bud comes out of the case at 90% while the right is 100% - even after several hours/ over night.
The very same thing happened to me. The right bud, and only the right bud, drained significantly faster. My pair had been manufactured in the spring of 2021. I sent them back for warranty and got a new pair today. So far so good.
The right should drain faster if you have google assistent activated. Otherwise it should be roughly the same. But if you have have it activated a prolonged time that bud has gone through more charging cycles and should drain faster anyways.
@@helljumper115 For future reference make sure to always buy their geek squad warranty. It's the only reason I will buy from Best Buy. There's never been an issue returning anything that had their warranty. 100% worth it. IMO it's the best warranty on the market.
I bought mine in the Spring of 2022 and have had no issues with battery life. In fact, I am amazed at how long they last. They do what they are supposed to. However, I did not update them to the latest firmware. I always wait several months to see what the bugs are before any updates. I will not be updating until I see this issue resolved. I do enjoy them immensely though. Excellent sound and ANC.
thanks for the video, I did a search and found it. Because I've noticed this issue to where talking on them I would get about 15 to 20 minutes of use out of them before they went dead. So I called Sony and they have known for about a month or so that this is a issue. Bottom line I'll be sending mines back to Sony to be replaced with a new pair of earbuds. So to counter your claim this isn't a big issue, ooh yes it is and at least they're making good with mines by sending me a new pair once they receive my old ones. I didn't bother doing any of the reset tests you did and noticing the app is now crashing on my phone. I was dealing with this issue for the past couple of weeks.
I had this problem for weeks with my left earbud not charging enough and it drains so fast in just 2 hours. I contacted Sony and they replaced my whole unit immediately (I'm 4 days away until my warranty ends). I'm back with your channel to see your EQ settings for this earbuds. Thank you again.
I also have massive problems with the batteries of the headphones. The same as you. Sony has to come up with something. Soft and hard resets don't work either way
Just had this exact issue recently after using them for almost 2 years with no issues. The support chat walked me through both these exact steps and neither fixed the problem. In the end had to send them in and they replaced the earbuds and paired them to my existing case before shipping them back to me. Now they work fine. fingers crossed**
Thank you for this Aaron... I also performed these actions to no avail... Called the service center and asked for my case to be escalated which it was. They will try to send you to a repair shop but keep insisting to escalate. I have to send the old pair back and will receive a new pair.. Will keep you updated.
By repair shop do you mean a service centre? Or did they try to get you to go to someone entirely else for it - and was their eventual replacement for free?
@@milohdd Yes by repair shop I do mean service center... Insist on speaking to a service manager no matter what they tell you and yes, my replacement was free... The new units software was even updated.
@malof.5290 everything was ok for a few months and now the SAME ISSUE started worth the new pair.. Am done with these buds and have now switched to the Jabra Elite 10s.
In my case i had bought it November, 2021 and i also had same battery drain issue on my right bud. luckily my thing is still in the warranty so i get replacement as new one today. so if u guys have same issue u should send it to SONY service center before the end of warranty and u can get the new one
Sent mine back to Sony last week and got it back yesterday. The staff mentioned that the driver was replaced and it is now updated to the latest firmware. So far it seems to be working fine.
Hello, Wei. Can you tell me what the problem was with your sony before? After they replaced it, DId the battery improve as if it was brand new again? Thanks!
I'm so pissed, mine happened after 16 months. This issue aside, I absolutely love them and will most likely roll the dice on a new pair since you said it was a limited batch. The soft reset didn't do anything. The hard reset made them better for about a week, now they are worse! So, I contacted Sony and they are replacing at no charge! Thank you for the video and info, I had just assumed that I was screwed being out of warranty!
Wait, how did you get replacement at no charge? They said if I send mine to them, they can send me a chargeable fee since it's out of warranty. Please let me know exactly what you told them, so I can hope to get the same outcome as you. Thanks.
@@mujahid1ali I just went through the chat feature on their customer service page. I explained what happened. they suggested the two different resets mentioned above. I explained that it didn't do anything. They then agreed to replace. I was shocked I had nothing to lose. Even if they charge you to fix, it's still cheaper than replacement.
I just noticed mine started doing this 2 days ago. After 1 hour of music (LDAC, EQ on, volume 90%, extreme on, all voice assistant off), my left one showed 85% of battery while the right one 19% remaining. Also, when i put them in the charging case, the right one will become hot. This started happening after i updated the firmware to 1.4.2, which in many Sony forums, is the one to blame for. There is a Sony website acknowledge this issue and “…is investigating further the symptom”. I am sending mine for replacement as they are still under warranty (1 month left). Pity, these earbuds have the best sound quality for me. Lesson learned “if it ain’t broken, don’t update”😅
I had an issue like this and sony customer service told me like you were told but i was so annoyed by the issue so the next day i went to sony centre and got the new one next week later.
Happened to me, sent for repair, got a new set. Only drawback: 8 had to wait for 1 week instead of having the buds replaced on the spot. Apparently they are aware of this fault and replace a bunch of these regularly.
Sent mine in, same issue, so bad it was draining the case in a few a hours because the earbud drained while off. Get this, the replacement was WH... The over ears. Still haven't heard back from support about the screw up, which you'd think, based on the ridiculously similar model names, they'd prevent by removing the possibility of human error. Paranoia almost has me thinking it's a socially engineered "accident."
@@raymondgalang983 yes, no questions asked. Earbuds + charging box and USB cable. They don't give the cardboard box so that people don't resell. Warranty was not reset/extended
experiencing the same issue, 10 minutes and its drained. brought to sony service and replacement (earbuds only, old case) was exactly the same price as brand new. so i ended up just buying a new pair.
Got the same issue but luckily my xm4 was still in warranty. This issue just happened few days before the warranty ended. It took 4 working days for sony to fix that. They replaced both left and right ear buds even I only get this issue on right ones. After getting the new ones, I find that the battery life is extremely long, I mean in the way it displays. I listen to the music for around 1.5hrs, the battery only drops to 90%. Later may try the longest time it can last after the fix. I recommend everyone who got this issue and your earbuds are still under warranty, please don’t hesitate to get the fix. Although you can’t get back immediately, I don’t think it could be fixed only by software update. It’s more likely a design problem for first few batches
Same issue here, and i had a full flight to investigate , playing with AAC vs LDAC and all other configurations. I discovered that the issue almost entirely disappears when ANC is off. Which is a complete disappointment (especially when you're in an aeroplane...) but looks like this is the root cause of all this mess.
Had precisely the same issue. The left ear bud went bad, coincidentally days before warranty was up...was constantly draining the whole case, overheating to the touch while not ever even getting to 100%. Sent in bad unit, but get this, they sent me wH 1000xm4. After contacting support, they were rudely brief with me saying services would contact me soon. 4 days later I haven't heard anything.
I had the same issue with my set of XM4s. Sent them to Sony Singapore and they issued me with replacements even though my warranty was expired. Just picked them up today. Thank you for your video!
Yeah, I'm having this problem and I bought one of the very first batches when they released in 2021 - I got mine pretty much as soon as they were available to order in the UK
I never get this problem but it is a very nice suggestion to fix it in the future. Today, I got the new Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless headphones. It is so superb that it can provide musical dimensions very impressively.🥰🎧🎶
Thank you for taking the time and addressing these issues. I'm glad the audiophile consumers have you. Can you also ask Sony when they are enabling custom controls for the XM4 buds? thanks!!
I will never look at that series in the same way, the problems are hardware that cannot be solved by software, finally the device can't handle it anymore and suffers from stress
I think a lot of you guys are experiencing same as me. I am currently trying a home replacement of the battery - it's tricky but there are lots of videos showing you how
@@malekdeghis2320 I'm a different person than who you posted your question to but anwer is yes. you can order replacements and there are plenty of videos on how to do it. first one took me 30 mins (hardest part was knowing how much hair dryer to use to soften the adhesive and then how to open them), second one took me 10 mins. you have to be careful but it's very easy. make sure to get the Z55H 3.85v batteries.
thanks for sharing aaron.i had the new firmware update and youre a life saver!luckily its still under warranty and im gonna quickily go and exchange it.kudos aaron!
I have a pair of these, about a year old. Within the last couple months, the right bud started to report low power after just a short period of use, usually during a phone call as opposed to listening to music, and then shut down. But guess what? When I check the status on the app, the right bud will show something like 60% capacity remaining. The left bud, which did NOT go out (continued to function), often shows far less capacity! So I'd just say that these earbuds, despite excellent sound, have a real problem with battery endurance that may or may not relate to the actual condition of the battery, but rather the programming/control system. Doesn't really matter, because a pair of ear buds that only works for 15 or 20 minutes on a call after being fully charged is useless.
Me too had that problem and went to service centre by seeing this video and my product is under warranty so they have replaced with new ear buds but same charging case given to me thanks for the video
Hi, I am from India, I had a battery drain on WF1000XM4, after watching your video I approached service centre, I got my replacement, before watching your video I thought my XM4 reached end of its life, thank you keep up the good work 👍
I have wf1000xm4 Since its availability in the market I did not have any problems even though I updated it to the latest version of the software، It is clear that yours needs to be replaced
I don’t have this issue, but actually recently did a hard reset to connect with my new 14 pro. I have not noticed any drain but was not looking for one. I will have to engage my curiosity and see what happens. I am glad Sony responded and are taking this seriously. They have some true competition out there so should be motivated to see this fixed.
@@aaronloudnwireless I ran them for 2 1/2 hrs with noise canceling on, and ended at : L87%, R86%. I think at those numbers , I could have gone another 2 1/2 hrs so I do not seem to have this battery drain issue.
Hi there. I am a user from South Korea. I had both the case and the unit replaced for free by the service center a month ago. In Korea, there is a derogatory term for Sony called "Sony Timer". It means that Sony's products only last for one year. It means that after one year of use, the machine will have problems. Anyway, the Sony branch in Korea will replace the battery for free if it drains. After it became an issue in the US and Europe, Sony's headquarters in Japan announced a free replacement. People with battery drain issues should go to their local Sony service center and get a free replacement!!! For reference, I updated the firmware to version 1.6.1. No problems yet. In fact, I think this is an inherent equipment defect. 🙄
Simple answer (but quite a late one for sure :) ) They had an overheat issue at some version of the software, and this overheat PHYSICALLY damaged batteries. So any software update or reset would not help fixing the corrupted battery chems inside. The only option is to replace the battery itself. I had the same problem with one headphone initially and then at some point on the second one as well. they lasted aroun 30 minutes from 100% charge. After I replaced the batteries (with the analogue from aliexpress :))) ) they are working perfect, was listening music for more than an hour at 50% volume (more than enough for the music I'm listening) and with active ANC. And they were still about 90% full. So that is definitely the real solution for this problem.
I have had mine for about a year. The right bud dies in 45 minutes. Sure, I can replace the battery, but then I risk breaking them all together They really screwed this up.
I had Sony replace my WE-1000WM4’s a year ago and within eight months the new set did the same thing with the battery issues. I’m not going to deal with trying to replace them again. It was simply too much trouble jumping through their hoops. And, if I received a new pair, would they do the same thing……………. It’s too much hassle. This whole issue really irks me to no end. I’m having to decide if I’ll ever buy another Sony product again due to how they have handled this. I have watched the video’s on swapping out the old batteries for new ones. This is strictly a “DIY” project and you could mess them up. However, some people have experienced the same issues even after swapping out the old batteries for new. Nope, not throwing another $50 at them for a questionable fix when it appears to be Sony’s software that is screwing everything up. I wonder if the new WF-1000XM5’s have the same issue. Thanks for this video. I at least learned how to hard reset them. Now I’m charging them back up to see if I can do a software update before the batteries discharge. It’s pathetic that the batteries won’t even last long enough to do a software update.
I believe the M5's can experience it too. In my case I noticed that I used one of the M4's less often. So it used to stay in the case most of the time. And that was the one that developed a battery problem.
Similar experience. I am on my third replacement (the first replacement was a different issue) after the whole 1.4.2 thing and as if on cue, after about a year, I’m starting to notice the same problem again. It’s a shame because I was otherwise very satisfied with the performance of the xm4s but I highly doubt they would just let me replace them a 4th time. I’m not sure I even really want to go through the trouble again anyways.
@@cringefailcabitha After 1.4.2 is when both of mine failed sometime afterwards. Sony ultimately stepped up to the plate for me and gave me a full refund for the entire purchase price. Almost three years later. I really appreciate that. I have done a lot of research on wireless earbuds and for the most part, almost everyone has a battery issue. After countless positive reviews, I ended up purchasing a long discontinued pair of their MDR-EX800ST IEM’s. Yes they are wired and no they do not have ANC, but they still hold their own to IEM’s costing into the $100.00’s. They are also made in Japan and quality is first very good. I miss the Sony WF1000XM4’s, but I just decided that I didn’t want to have to worry with battery issues (from any brand) anymore.
Ahhh 😮😮 I haven’t even gotten A replacement!!! 😢 6 months now !!! Just felt so violated . 😢$330 gone , they took that shit back n just nothing . I try to review TVs . Sony just marketing ! I mean they r just false marketing . Ppl pay high price for the “quality “ but more like “anti-quality “ now . 😮
Mine worked fine on update 1.4.2 until I went into settings to turn voice activated assistant on then all of a sudden I can't even get an hour out of right bud.
similiar issue happening here, with right earbud lasting alot less than the left one. DSEE off, eq on, speak to chat and assistant off, will usually end up with the right earbud at like 15% after 2 hours and 30 (ish, i didn't time it precisely) while the left one will be around 40%. i tried contacting sony IT and they insist it's normal behaviour. Right now i'm thinking of just going straight to amazon and see if i can get a replacement or a refund. hell if i can get a refund i'll prolly just go for the sennehsier momentum 3 tws. i suspect i'd like their sonic profile more, too...
Have this same issue with my XM4 buds purchased in July 2021. This started with the last firmware update, and I waited until I applying the 2.0.1 firmware to call Sony. THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE AFTER 2.0.1 FIRMWARE UPDATE. Sony was very responsive over chat, and worked with me to test and verify the issue. I mentioned that this appears to be a widely-known issue as seen on videos like this. After confirming the issue over chat with a few tests, Sony issued an RMA and will repair the buds. Support confirmed that they will not replace the base charger, but that is fine. So far, Sony support has been GREAT even though this product was out of the warranty window. I recommend you stay professional and back up your testing with screenshots for those that are reaching out to Sony. Will update with results when I receive my (hopefully) repaired buds back. I am back to using my XM3's for now.
Exactly same issue, but still within 2yr Warranty. Contacted seller (??) Monday, pointed out defect. Sony earbuds ‘collected’ Wednesday, New Sony replacement earbuds delivered same day!……Now that’s what I call…. ‘Customer Service’.
My Sony WF-1000XM4, in its nearly 12th month, suddenly shows the problem with the battery. The right bud drains faster, only lasting for 1 hour, while the left bud remains in good battery condition. I immediately contacted the nearest Sony service center and sent them the unit for replacement.
My sony xm4s were manufactured in march 2022. And currently on 14.2 i am having no issues as such either. Battery life is pretty good i have everything on dsee extreme noise canceling etc
I had the same problem but mine was way worse. The right one couldn't even hold for 1 song and it dropped to 10% and then 0% in seconds. 1 month after the warranty expired! I had them for 2 years and I used them EVERY DAY. For me spending all that money and having this issue was unacceptable. I bought today my OnePlus Buds 3 and so far I love everything about them. Never again on Sony...
I called Sony to repair my ear buds I bought on 8/10/22. I spoke with Caroline. She said that Sony is aware of the issue the update caused and they are replacing all units -even out of warranty- free of charge. I will be replying to recent comments with this message to hopefully help others.
I have gone through x3 WF-1000XM4 where I have had the same issue on all of them. As you describe but it´s the left earbud that has issue. Same issue on 3 of them!
Pretty sour taste for any Sony product after this. I had plans to change other audio/video appliances to Sony based on my experience with these. Lost them one time momentarily and thought I was going to die without them. Literally the next week went to 1.4.2. , 2 weeks after that... 20 min on the right bud and charging wired caused flashing red lights due to overheating during charging on that bud. Now in the 5-7 min from 100 - 0. Incredibly poor support from a tier 1 audio product vendor from a software/firmware perspective. Good luck to all. Back to Jabra for me. Reliability is valuable. My Elite 75t's were wonderful.
I've got a pair from the first batch, and have the same problem: battery on right bud dies out quick once extended warranty expires (15 months after purchase). Had replaced the battery with varta cp1254 and it just recovered... Looks to me the battery quality (zenipower z55h) might not be that great.
@@kixstartter6560 After the battery replacement, my right bud now lasts longer than the left for around 10%. But only having replaced it for 2 weeks, I hope the problem won't come back again soon...
@@jyosefuryo9521 Nice man, I just replaced mine today with cp1254 a3, however forgot to buy a glue for it I thought I could use the old one, anyways I hope the battery problems is not related to software making it degrade faster. Thanks for the reply man.
I bought my 1st pair in Nov 2021 and by August 2022 had my first draining earbud. It took them 3 weeks to get me a replacement set (they are shipped, processed, evaluated and this takes weeks - not to mention shipping time back to you) and now I’m in the same situation a 2nd time. I love the sound and functionality but this hasn’t been “rare” at all for me. It’s looking like it might be time to find a different brand. Bummer. C’mon Sony!
In Canada the sony service center is not the best. But after a week of nagging (they said yes to replacement but were having "problems" generating shipping label) I was able to send them back the defective units. Got the new ones, still the right one drains faster but a lot less.
If you reconnect the buds once the right one is drained out, after 15 minutes it starts again at 30 or 40 percent. The issue is with the latest firmware that does not indicate proper battery 😅
Same here the right side drained so fast from fully charged down to 40% in under 30 mins then it says low batt and shut down ..but the left side is fine though.🖖
Exactly what happened to me as well The battery in the right side sucks and resetting them did no help at all, as expected There are reports that Sony has confirmed the battery issue in Japan, and some people here reported that you can get the XM4 to Sony repair center for a battery replacement even if it’s already outside warranty. This seems to happen for firmware version 1.4.2 only. On the other way, if you replaced the battery yourself, you better put the old one back before visiting the center.
I started having this same issue with my right earbud just one month after the warranty expired, sadly, so no warranty for me. Coincidentally it began only after updating to the most recent firmware. Before that I was getting decent battery life but now the right bud will last 20-30 minutes whereas the left still has 80-90%. Turning off dse extreme or what we did help, but I still can’t even get an hour with the right bud.
Same, I'm completely out of warranty, and the buds last about ~3hrs. The right one considerably less. I do like the buds tho, so I'll be trying to replace the internal battery on each bud. I found a reddit thread that referenced the Ali express replacement batteries, so I'll try my luck
the same thing happened to my Sony WF, 6 days before the warranty expiration. So, I brought the unit immediately to the nearest service center. I told them about the issue, and there is no need for me to make a justification for my request for replacement because the Sony WF 1000XM4 battery problem is all over the net.
You are probably not right. That awful, horrible issue was an option for absolutely all items produced. But for those who didn't use these headphones much, it appeared after 12-15 months.
My first WF-1000XM4 could finally keep its battery only less than 20 minutes. (I bought it June, 2021) But I could exchange to new one for free because of its warranty. (May, 2022) After that,I can use it comfortably.
Ive got the battery drain problem with the left ear have a new pair pf the sony x1000 bit they seem lower than yhe first pair i got the bass is not packing like the first set i purchased
Had exactly the same issue with mine. You aren't correct to be an advocate for Sony and say that this is a rare occurrence. It is extremely common with the XM4s and Sony is entirely culpable for a fundamental design flaw. Since you review a lot of Sony audio devices, I think that you should acknowledge this in one of your subsequent videos. Or perhaps you have already.
I recently got this problem on my xm4, just days after my warranty expired. Did Sony SG end up getting the buds replaced for you? I'll be heading down to their service center soon and definitely link them to this video if they refuse to fix or replace my xm4s haha!
i did also the reset and factory reset day before yesterday and the surprise now even the both buds and the case drained in less than 10 minuets ,im really sad for what is happening ,still drained without any reasons
Hey Aaron, love your sincerity towards tech. I subscribed immediately. Could you please look into reviewing yamaha premium consumer headphones like YH-L700A headphones?
Yup, I've got this exact issue. happened after a recent update... the update fixed the horrible 'popping/crackling' that appeared with the previous previous update... but now my right earbud just dies so fast... i used to be able to make it through an entire day of work before even reaching 20%... now? the right earbud dies before its even noon! (work 8a-4p) so what normally would last me well over 8 hours, is now only lasting half that... It both makes me super wishing the XM5's would come out already, but also making me want to stay away from Sony's headphones all together because they're just... idk the word... untrustworthy maybe? I can't trust them to give me a product that works as advertised, and they can't stop 'touching it' and breaking things that were perfectly fine... My buds worked amazingly when I first got them 2 years ago... then slowly over time they keep releasing updates, and the updates are breaking them more than fixing... its sickening... they're so expensive.. they should 'just work'... we're not beta testers...
Not that wide-spread? Look in the comments, on the forums. I got mine replaced in the first few months, now I'm 1 month after warranty and the right ear drains in 30 minutes
It’s interesting that this is happening on the XM4 because This has been happening to my XM3!!! My left bud drains within less than 10 mins. I have been debating whether I should replace my current battery or switch to XM4 but now that Im seeing this is an issue with the XM4 as well, Im not so sure what to do anymore 😢.
My warranty just ended in August and after the latest software update mine starting acting up… first was syncing issue one earbud would not wake up then the battery drain issue .. the earbuds wouldn’t even charge in the charging case … so frustrating
I had been through this situation, first it happened with my right, i had to sent for changing battery for around 15$, then 1 week after the repair it happened to my left, another 15$ then it took 1 month more to cause problem in the case, which it could not charge both earbuds. I bought on 7/2022, use around 10 hours/week :) Damn as a Sony fan like me, i will never buy these sh!t again.

Hey Aaron I have finally found a solution for maximum equal battery life on both Earbuds. The settings are as follows :-
1) open the headphones app go to status and turn off adaptive control
2) Go to bluetooth tap on the setting icon beside the wf1000xm4 and turn off LDAC.
3) Open the app go to Sound then turn off ambient sound control and speak-to-chat
4) Open the app go to system >change the touch sensor function click on the setting icon >on the left bud select playback control and on the right bud also select the playback control.
Hello, I have had the same problem for a while, what is the solution?
It’s so bad now that I have stopped trying to fix them! They were just over a year old and I will not risk paying Sony a dollar more in sending them in for repair out of warranty! A real shame because they were excellent up until that last firmware update. 😢
Sony has been replacing them out of warranty for free, look into it
2yr Warranty!!
Same I'm getting mine fixed too I ain't spending £200 for another pair
@@Amari588 funny thing, originally bought from Amazon with two year warranty …….. Amazon just replaced mine with brand new!!… sent defective ones back to Sony….. You’ll probably get them as refurbs!!
@@garyt.5219 ok so what do I do just email sony
Same here
same here.
It should give you a max of 6 hours, with noise canceling on.
I have the same issue my left one always come out at about 70%and some times only last 15 minutes but the right is totally fine
Same here but with the right Bud.
“Not a widespread thing”? Well 100% of mine are failing with the same issue. And I would add every person who is watching this is having the same.
The very same thing happened to me. The right bud, and only the right bud, drained significantly faster. My pair had been manufactured in the spring of 2021. I sent them back for warranty and got a new pair today. So far so good.
Did Sony require you to send in purchase receipt?
Same here, sent my unit to service during guaranty. Wish me luck!
The right should drain faster if you have google assistent activated. Otherwise it should be roughly the same. But if you have have it activated a prolonged time that bud has gone through more charging cycles and should drain faster anyways.
So I bought mines from Best Buy do I sent it back to them? I didn’t get their geek squad warranty

Same here no issue at all bought it last year december been using it for nearly 10mos battery is awesome its my daily driver.
@J H What firmware version are you using?
Mine worked perfectly, lasted all day and drained even until a few weeks ago. Ver.1.4.2
Lol new firmware afraider kid
thanks for the video, I did a search and found it.
Soft and hard resets don't work either way
It didn't work for me either, sony should change them for new ones
Sure. But out of warranty they would give a flying fck?
Just had this exact issue recently after using them for almost 2 years with no issues. The support chat walked me through both these exact steps and neither fixed the problem.
In the end had to send them in and they replaced the earbuds and paired them to my existing case before shipping them back to me. Now they work fine. fingers crossed**
How much did Sony charge you to fix them?
@@jaybesuscrust nothing. Granted I did maybe move the purchase date one year later though.

Thank you for the video and info, I had just assumed that I was screwed being out of warranty!
did they replace it even after 16 moonths?
Wait, how did you get replacement at no charge? They said if I send mine to them, they can send me a chargeable fee since it's out of warranty. Please let me know exactly what you told them, so I can hope to get the same outcome as you. Thanks.

@@mujahid1ali I just went through the chat feature on their customer service page. I explained what happened. they suggested the two different resets mentioned above. @@bigdawgfan72 how long will replacement take?
How do you contact Sony and send them in
Did they give you a brand-new set?
@@raymondgalang983 yes, no questions asked. Earbuds + charging box and USB cable. They don't give the cardboard box so that people don't resell. Warranty was not reset/extended
My concern is after several months, same issue will occur and there is no more warranty.
experiencing the same issue, 10 minutes and its drained. brought to sony service and replacement (earbuds only, old case) was exactly the same price as brand new. so i ended up just buying a new pair.
Good to know that you got your replacement. Did they give you a brand-new one?
They sent you wH instead of wF for replacement? LMAO 🤣
They sent you the WH’s instead? I would have taken that, those are way more expensive right now lol

thanks for sharing aaron.i had the new firmware update and youre a life saver!luckily its still under warranty and im gonna quickily go and exchange it.kudos aaron!

Simple answer (but quite a late one for sure :) )
They had an overheat issue at some version of the software, and this overheat PHYSICALLY damaged batteries.
I bought mine fall of 2022 and I have no issues. I think the bad ones are just that and sony should replace them.
I have had mine for about a year. The right bud dies in 45 minutes. Sure, I can replace the battery, but then I risk breaking them all together
They really screwed this up.
i had this problem and the earbud were over a year old
but i was still able to get replacements for it so i guess they
are trying to make it right
I had Sony replace my WE-1000WM4’s a year ago and within eight months the new set did the same thing with the battery issues.

I did more thorough testing and it's actually worse than that. After an hour and 20 minutes I have 5 percent on right and 75 on left.

How do you "send these in to the service center"? Is it just sending it into Sony (and if so how), or is it just a local tech fixing place.
The reboots didn't work. Still under warranty. I'll have them replaced. This was my favorite new gadget. This is really disappointing.
Went to Best Buy and was about to get a new pair with no problem with warranty.
My Sony WF-1000XM4, in its nearly 12th month, suddenly shows the problem with the battery. The right bud drains faster, only lasting for 1 hour, while the left bud remains in good battery condition. I immediately contacted the nearest Sony service center and sent them the unit for replacement.

I had to change the z55h batteries in mine. Seem to be working great now.

Please let us know what happened after the service centre visit!
How did u wake up the right earbud???
Same here the right side drained so fast from fully charged down to 40% in under 30 mins then it says low batt and shut down ..but the left side is fine though.🖖

There are reports that Sony has confirmed the battery issue in Japan, and some people here reported that you can get the XM4 to Sony repair center for a battery replacement even if it’s already outside warranty. This seems to happen for firmware version 1.4.2 only. On the other way, if you replaced the battery yourself, you better put the old one back before visiting the center.
Charging case not Charging itself. Any suggestions
(I bought it June, 2021)
But I could exchange to new one for free because of its warranty. (May, 2022)
After that,I can use it comfortably.
My meanings. Agree. This awful issue lrobably applied absolutely to all produced XM4's. And this is a utter shame.
I recently got this problem on my xm4, just days after my warranty expired. Did Sony SG end up getting the buds replaced for you? I'll be heading down to their service center soon and definitely link them to this video if they refuse to fix or replace my xm4s haha!
They wont replace them, are you stupid warranty is out means you must buy new earbuds
i did also the reset and factory reset day before yesterday and the surprise now even the both buds and the case drained in less than 10 minuets ,im really sad for what is happening ,still drained without any reasons
@Aaron is loud wireless I’m experiencing the same issue with mine. How do I contact Sony and send them in
You're channel is fantastic. This information is valuable for me. Thank you for your work!
No problem glad the info here helped!
This channel is trashy, biased and probably full with paid false content. So, wtf are you talking about?
Not that wide-spread? Look in the comments, on the forums. I got mine replaced in the first few months, now I'm 1 month after warranty and the right ear drains in 30 minutes
The battery can be replaced if you dont want to spend money on new ones. You dont need experience to do it, just a video instruction and a few tools.
Had this issue on my Linkbuds S but seems like its been fixed after updating to 4.2.1 firmware
Happen to me as well, reset doesn't help at all. I bought a pair of wf-1000xm4 on 14th of september, 2021.
It happened it to me 3 months ago. After having try all that solutions which didn't work , I had to them back for remplacement.
They are still in warrenty can I get them replaced for battery drain
Thank you so much for the tips !!
Any time!
Had these for a while but just made my ears sore. Too big for mine. I now have the 700n which are perfect fit.
My warranty just ended in August and after the latest software update mine starting acting up… first was syncing issue one earbud would not wake up then the battery drain issue .. the earbuds wouldn’t even charge in the charging case … so frustrating
If you don't have warranty can you send them back and if yes where do I send them
Contact sony. They're your best bet
