After 1 year of heavy use, my left unit (Linkbuds S) was out of battery in just a matter of minutes, it was in the guarantee period and the set was repaired for free. Now everything is working fine again, really happy with them.

My LinkBuds S started draining the battery recently as well, which is sad, because I enjoyed them for a year and a half now. Now the right earbud is off in maybe 20 minutes with DSEE Extreme off

The comment may be extensive, but I think it is necessary to understand the reason for the evaluation of these TWS. Three premises, three conclusions and a request to Sony. First premise: I have had, have or have tried a lot, among others, the following TWS: Bragi Dash Pro, Jabra Elite 75t, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 1 and 3, Samsung Galaxy Buds Live, Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, Sony WF-1000XM4, Airpods 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation, Airpods Pro (1st generation), Huawei Free Buds Pro and Technics EAH-AZ60, before these Sony Link Buds S. Second premise: what matters to me about a TWS are, above all, three features: sound quality, comfort and noise cancellation (all three simultaneously, without there being an absolute priority of one to the detriment of the others). Third premise: none of the TWS tested has offered me noise cancellation worthy of the name, despite the fact that I have tried other tips or pads with which I have been able, and especially the SpinFit C100 size XL. First conclusion: The Technics, the Sennheiser and the 3rd generation Airpods are the ones that have offered me the best sound quality. Of the three, only the latter also provide absolute comfort, but do not have active noise cancellation. The Technics, which also offer LDAC, have active cancellation if they fit too far into the ear, but at the expense of comfort; In addition, they must be constantly readjusted. The comfort of the Sennheiser exceeds that of the Technics, but not by much, and its adaptive cancellation is imperceptible; they also do not improve their sound quality. After testing the Sony Link Buds with the different tips, the cancellation was still almost negligible. But as soon as I put the SpinFit CP100 Plus XL size pads on them (which I had already tried with the Technics and the Sennheiser TWS 3) THE MIRACLE HAPPENED, AND THERE WAS SILENCE. Second conclusion: I am absolutely sure that the people who have not appreciated the noise cancellation of these TWS is due to the problem of the pads. In this regard, I have read that Sony is going to include another smaller size in the future!, which may be fine for the Japanese market and even for some special cases of the European market, but, in general, in Europe and America we have the largest ears, so Sony should also add another size larger than the one included in its TWS. Third conclusion: These Sony Link Buds S offer me absolute comfort (to wear them without problems or discomfort for hours), extraordinary noise cancellation (yes, with the mentioned pads, the Spin Fit C100 Plus, which offer incredible sealing, the best of those I have tried, and I have tried many of all kinds) almost, almost at the level of the Sony WH-1000XM4 over-ear headphones -which I also have- and a very good sound quality, as long as they are properly equalized. In terms of quality, the Technics are better, but overall, there is no color: these Sony are a 10. I have not tried nor am I interested in the quality of the calls. I use the TWS to walk around the city and play sports. Comfort 10, Cancellation 10, Transparency Function 10, Sound Quality 9. I have finally found a TWS that allows me to enjoy music without cars or conversations getting in the way. Even without music the cancellation is excellent. Of course, be very careful when crossing, because cars or motorcycles cannot be heard. VERY IMPORTANT: I don't listen to music on my phone, but use a dedicated player, specifically the FiiO M5, the size of a wristwatch face, very portable, and which offers, in addition to LDAC, a very appreciable sound quality , much better, by far, than that offered by any phone. And a request to Sony: for the next TWS, keep this size, improve performance as much as possible and, please, include quality pads like the Spin Fit C100, as well as a larger size than usual: the results will be verify you and we will be able to enjoy them all.
i got the same issue as you with the xm4s.... sadly i just noticed after watching your videos... thankfully I always had several extre earphones on reach (xm3s also having issues with battery, buds 2 pros, wh xm3s and wh xm4s) so I kind of wasn't noticing the xm4s were just broken and thought every time it was me charging them wrong or something... but no... it was the right one draining 100% in less that half an hour... got in touch with sony support here in Argentina and they are not replacing them outside of warranty. totally lost my trust in them, such a disappointment. long live the buds 2 pro. f sony
Both my wife and I have linkbud S. Both set have battery problems on one of the buds. We did update the firmware and switched of assistant and other features, but no result. Max 30-60 minutes battery
I've had the linkbuds s for a while now and I can say Sony is a "strange" company. The layout for the earbuds app is pretty funky, the names for products are also long, and a lot of their extra features for earbuds are third-party. However, after getting to know how to manuever around this maze of features and settings you can really make your experience with Sony products amazing (possibly even better than Apple or Samsung products)
My Link Buds S was working fine until few months ago. The left side ear bud almost dies around 15-20 mins. So sad to see this happening in Sony products. Is it the same for the latest buds too??
Brought my XM4 to the service center and when I got it back, it still has the same problem: the right bud is 0% while the left still has more than 40% It kind of giving me Sonyphobia now. This is not a cheap product to have a factory defect like this. I wanted to buy a wireless headset from Sony but I guess not this time while my trauma is still fresh.
Hi Aaron, i have the Sony wf-1000xm3. I don't get the battery drain issue but after seeing the xm4's i think i will wait for a few months before installing the next firmware just to be sure haha
Man, I have just relized how super crazy cool you are about audio. (the timelapse test made me go wack). I have a pair of Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 buds and I am more than happy with them. However I am soooooo excited about the Linkbuds S, I plan to buy them. Are they gonna be any close? Not sure how much experience you have with the HuaweiFreebuds2. (11mm drivers vs 5mm drives, just to mention one main spec)
Great video! If possible, can you also make a video where you can share your personal EQ settings on this linkbuds S? Just like what you did with the XM4’s.. Arigato :)
I had to go to warranty service twice in about 1 month. First the right bud and then the left one. The new ones are ok now but i don't know what will happen in the next several months. I have one month of warranty left.
Nope. You are not the only one. I bought my Xm4 last year December. I use my Xm4 for daily listening and the battery life is superb. Until recently in August my EarBuds battery drain is really bad, it could be dropping from 100% to 85% in less than 20 minutes of usage and its not fully charge when I took my EarBuds out to use when it's in the case for the whole night. Then I send in my EarBuds to Sony to check since its under warranty. Sony said it will take them two to three weeks before they will call me to collect the EarBuds. A week later I got a call from them and my item is ready to collect. When I collect my EarBuds, I was told its not fixed but my EarBuds is replaced with a new pair. I ask them what's the issue? They couldn't tell the exact reason why is it so. Luckily my unit is still under warranty and this happened. If it happened after the warranty I would be upset judging the premium price was paid. I am pretty sure many others would feel the same. Hope Aaron would get a satisfying response and get your unit change even your unit its off warranty. This is not a usual case and its unfair for it to happened right after the warranty period.
@@zeroanime01 after the firmware update in March. The earbuds is still working fine. Only recently it behave otherwise. I do think it's not the issue with firmware but hardware issues. Is best you check with Sony and ask what you can do and how they going to address the issue.
Too bad that the XM4 have presented this problem considering their price, I really wanted to buy them but seeing too many comments from people with the same problem, I better refrain from buying them, I think I will have to wait a year to buy the XM5 and see that they don't come out with the same battery drain problem caused by the 2.0.1 firmware version. Great video bro!
I recently bought a pair of Link Buds S to replace my WFXM4 (poor battery after heavy use for 16 months)… the Link Buds S (blue model) had a defective Left ear piece (interference type distortion and pitches). I returned them (Yorabashi Camera in Tokyo) and replaced with a second pair of the same model Link Buds S … (same failure) on my way to return them for good. Not sure what to replace them with. XM4s have the best style and I thoroughly enjoyed them but Im having second thoughts about Sony’s QC of these products. Find the defective Link Bud S almost unbelievable… twice in a row? Anyone else?
As much as i love sony earbuds, im getting tired of battery drain... i owned 1000xm3 > 1000 xm4 > linkbuds s and experienced the same exact battery issues (it always happened around 1.5 years after purchase...) Im really considering switching it to another brand... instead of buying 1000xm5...😢😢😢
Bought blue ones Jan 1st 2023, it's April 2nd and I just got off phone with Sony customer service they told me they can't help me because there is no such reported problem at all and that I can pay for repair
So I have the same problem, requested a replacement today, but my problem went further. the right bud shut off completely. iut won't charge, won't turn on, nothing.
Not only in battery but also sound quality the samsung buds 2 pro and the AirPods Pro 2 are way better. The AirPods Pro 2 are better in anc and transparency as well.
@@Anonyme09865 People were heaping praise on the wf-1000 xm4s' ANC, saying things like "it's dangerous to have it on when you're out on the streets because you get hit by cars, it's that isolating and good" and "It's almost as good as overear ANC" and I don't get any of that. At most they block low-frequency white noise but that's about it. I can hear all sorts of outside noise, especially cars whooshing by me, people talking etc. It's very underwhelming.
@@ihsahnakerfeldt9280 you might not be getting a good seal or had a bum set. Mine are beyond exceptional, I now have a pairing issue/connection issue which ruined them.
My Lonk buds are 18 months all. All of a sudden about 2 weeks ago I started getting serious battery drain, and each ear loses charge at a vastly different rate. I rang the retailer where I bought them and they just said "ah too bad you are out of warranty so probably nothing we can do". This is really bad and just not good enough service. I don't know where else to go in Australia and the Sony company here is so hard to contact. Money down the drain. I'm really disappointed. Apparently it is a common problem with these.
My XM4s have gotten that battery drain issue, my left one acutally runs out in under 30 minutes, my right one lasts a bit over an hour. I'm getting the LinkBuds S to replace them. Although I could easily repair the battery myself, I just am not a fan of the XM4s due to not being able to side sleep with them. I hope that these Linkbuds S won't have the same batter drain issue and I have very high expectations from them. For the God's sake Sony, please don't fuck up my earbuds again.
Excellent review as always. I have the Linkbuds and ANC is the best I've ever heard. But the buds stop working from time to time. They just stop. And they also have dropouts. I rather prefer my Jabra Elite 7 by far. It's always good to see your videos, Aaron. Regards!
I do actually think there is a huge issue with the quality of products that Sony is throwing at the market. I personally am not buying anything from Sony risking a good amount of money for the product. and to be honest there are brands that have been doing a really awesome job like soundpeats.
My Linkbuds S have the battery issue. Sony customer service so far has been bad. I would avoid Sony earbuds until they acknowledge the issue and resolve it for customers regardless of Warranty period since Sony's faulty firmware update caused the issue.
Dear Aron, I need something for my conference calls in a very noisy office area. So far the elevac clear performed well for me. But the battery life is very short, less than two hours. I also use the Sony linkbuds S. But the noisy sound leak into the meetings and the Sony also cuts out my voice. And yes, battry drains. Could you please recommend something for me that has the best microphone for noisy office and has at least real 6 hours battery.

I just sent my WF1000MX4 back to Sony for servicing last week because of the battery drain issue and I was able use my warranty even though it expired two weeks before the exchange but Sony still accepted it. Now I'm waiting for my replacement which might take 3 weeks or more due to the holidays. I'm thinking of getting the Link buds S as my backup earbuds since I'm currently using wired earbuds at the moment.
Hi Aaron, been following your channel and this is my go to for tws reviews! I hope you give Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 a chance to review. Would love to know your thoughts about it specially the sound quality, and anc. Thanks!
Dude .. why buy these or anything else from Sony when they'll likely not last more more than a year cause their batteries are crap. My Bose are still alive since 2017! This is enough of a widespread issue. Many ppl are claiming it. Go to Reddit. Happening to me, you, ppl commenting on your youtube videos, reddit.. it's just happening too much coincidentally to ignore. If Sony charges me to replace, I won't do it.. will shell out the money for a heat gun and replacement batteries and do it myself. And then just trash them later and not buy Sony anymore. These buds are just too expensive to easily forgive something like this...
I think battery issues are overblown. My WF 1000 MX3 battery has been running well since Dec. 2020. They lasted me all of my 8 hour work day (of course some breaks here and there). Didn't have to charge the case like every 3 days. I only replaced it with SoundCore Liberty 4 recently since I heard good things about them.
I've got 380+ hours on mine now and they went to absolute junk starting in September (I put the update off until almost October) as soon as it happened, earbuds quit fully charging, 20 mins into listening, battery 15% warning. Now I have BT connection issues. I literally can't use them anymore. This ruined the xm4 to the point I see them being HEAVILY discounted this fall/winter shopping season
Please how doo you preserve batery on your buds if they after exe half day off using are whole night in charging case . That is like mobile devices is constantly runing and pusing to charge it up, or it has some divice to stop charging when its on full .
What is the fix? Did you contact the service center or buy a new one?
Is this model worth to buy? Looking for XM4 or this because my XM3 strated to give problems
True, app needs a bit more polish, even if it's not lots better than the OG headphones connect app.
name is long but i like this more then some sort of buds, buds pro buds pro2, buds+ bud S etc...
@@pitcheung5354 that's true. However, most people will just buy the newest one that comes out (as seen with Apple products).
How long does the Linkbuds S's battery lasts rn? I'm thinking of buying it for everyday use.
@@danish9373 out of the case it's around 6 hours, & with the case it's a total of 20.
Do the updates help or improve the battery drain situation??
Why is there a huge difference between the battery percentage of earbuds?
My Link Buds S was working fine until few months ago. The left side ear bud almost dies around 15-20 mins. So sad to see this happening in Sony products. Is it the same for the latest buds too??
Brought my XM4 to the service center and when I got it back, it still has the same problem: the right bud is 0% while the left still has more than 40%
It kind of giving me Sonyphobia now. This is not a cheap product to have a factory defect like this. I wanted to buy a wireless headset from Sony but I guess not this time while my trauma is still fresh.
Sold my XM4's for a second pair of Liberty 3 Pro's. I may consider picking up the Linkbuds S sometime. 🤔
Thanks Aaron!
How's the ANC on the Liberty 3 Pros? Do they have a constant hiss like the Liberty 2 Pros?
Hi Aaron, i have the Sony wf-1000xm3. I don't get the battery drain issue but after seeing the xm4's i think i will wait for a few months before installing the next firmware just to be sure haha
15 months on with my Linkbuds S and the left one lasts maybe 20 minutes at most.
Airpods pro 2 gen battery drain test please
Should i buy this for 70$?
Great video! If possible, can you also make a video where you can share your personal EQ settings on this linkbuds S? Just like what you did with the XM4’s.. Arigato :)
I had to go to warranty service twice in about 1 month. First the right bud and then the left one. The new ones are ok now but i don't know what will happen in the next several months. I have one month of warranty left.
I really enjoyed my XM4’s but the noise cancelling on the Bose QuietComfort II are WAY, WAY better.
I experienced this and my xm4 has past its warranty. I hope a firmware update will fix this issues.
As much as i love sony earbuds, im getting tired of battery drain... i owned 1000xm3 > 1000 xm4 > linkbuds s and experienced the same exact battery issues (it always happened around 1.5 years after purchase...)
Im really considering switching it to another brand... instead of buying 1000xm5...😢😢😢
Bought blue ones Jan 1st 2023, it's April 2nd and I just got off phone with Sony customer service they told me they can't help me because there is no such reported problem at all and that I can pay for repair
Yes i have problem with my XM4 lately , The right side battery drain faster than the left one..
So I have the same problem, requested a replacement today, but my problem went further. the right bud shut off completely. iut won't charge, won't turn on, nothing.
Hi Aaron, i recently bought the Linkbuds S and I only get 2 and a half hours with AAC, ANC and DSSE extreme on, should I go to guarantee?
Man Sony is catching it bad.
@@ihsahnakerfeldt9280 sony really gotta up their game if they want to beat competitors
@@Anonyme09865 Battery life and ANC were reportedly far superior before some firmware "update" which is really dumb.
@@ihsahnakerfeldt9280 you might not be getting a good seal or had a bum set. Mine are beyond exceptional, I now have a pairing issue/connection issue which ruined them.
I had watched some other videos on the XM4s and the battery draining issue is more common than you would think but I would still reccomend
Do the Linkbuds S have a soldered battery like the XM4s or is it like the XM3s and easy to replace?
For the God's sake Sony, please don't fuck up my earbuds again.
how does linkbud s do with LDAC , listening to youtube, no ANC. for battery.
Hi Aaron, do you notice that the Linkbud S has more sound skip when the LDAC is on?
Thanks Much !
Excellent review as always. I have the Linkbuds and ANC is the best I've ever heard. But the buds stop working from time to time. They just stop. And they also have dropouts. I rather prefer my Jabra Elite 7 by far. It's always good to see your videos, Aaron. Regards!
I have the 7 Pros and the drop connection often I was actually considering buying the linkbuds s
After 7 months of daily use. My link buds s last only 45 minutes. I've just sent them in for repair.
I do actually think there is a huge issue with the quality of products that Sony is throwing at the market.
I personally am not buying anything from Sony risking a good amount of money for the product.
and to be honest there are brands that have been doing a really awesome job like soundpeats.
My budlinks s right ear keeps draining fast. How do i fix

It adds resolution to music files so that they sound cleaner
@@aaronloudnwireless Ah ok thanks, so no difference on Spotify?

Does someone know why the call quality on the Linkbuds s is bad if you call via Teams/PC? The Noive canceling turns completely off
The best headsets for teams are teams certified. Those are full sized headphones with boom mics
waiting for the next video, I have the same problem but the warranty has expired
Reportalos a Sony, de dónde eres? Te harán el cambio

I tried that but they keep telling me to reset and hard reset I did that and it still drains
@@helljumper115 I just opted for pixel buds pro.
i am a Sony fan since 90s...but this issue really disappointed me after bad xperia z5 experience.
If you're having issues with the "Sony" 1000XM4, why not consider a different brand?
I have problem with my right buds. New but right side charge slower and drained hell lot faster than left side
Must be nice...i wonder if he still has the same battery life this year.

SONY XM4
My linkbuds s have died 3 times during the duration of this video 💀😭
I have the battery drain issue in my Sony XM4s as well.
if they link buds s had 1-2h more battery they would be amazing
1. Kinds of pads are critical for good NC . 2. Pl never use for too long . your ears must breathe .
Yes i found the xm4s just too big hurt my ears. Have c700n now
there a update now for SONY linkbud S . and this is LE
My left earbud is drained in like 20 min, =(
I prefer linkbuds s over xm4 😄
My right bud drains in less than 30 minutes
Turns out I had a year warranty. Got a brand new set...works great!
can u make a comparison of Oppo Enco X2 buds vs Rest?
Waste of 100$+ dollars. This happened to me too!
Good review but i lost trust on Sony after XM4 firmware update. Switching to Soundcore. THE END
i don't even have a wireless charger so i couldn't care less. I think it's the only complaint I've heard about them
Hi Aaron, been following your channel and this is my go to for tws reviews! I hope you give Huawei Freebuds Pro 2 a chance to review. Would love to know your thoughts about it specially the sound quality, and anc. Thanks!
Shitz... I am one of the faulty ones..? My right piece just drop to 50% after an hour
Don't by this product. Permanent battery and connection issues.!!!!!
I have wf-mx4 and linkbuds s. perhaps it is time to drop sony wf.
Did Sony fix your 1000XM4?
Right bud lasts about an hour at this point. Not happy with Sony at all.
" ..if someone were to ditch the XM4s and get ThESE, they are not going to miss out at all...". Seriously Aaron?
That was not an exaggeration.
My linkbuds s left earbuds drain battery than right 20%
Dude .. why buy these or anything else from Sony when they'll likely not last more more than a year cause their batteries are crap.
After seeing your video, I am not buying any sony 1000XM4.
Please how doo you preserve batery on your buds if they after exe half day off using are whole night in charging case . That is like mobile devices is constantly runing and pusing to charge it up, or it has some divice to stop charging when its on full . Is it beter to put them out of the box in sleaping owers cos logically that will sawe divice from ower charging. Pleaee hepl cos im litle confused there. Best regards from Croatia
