Here's another tip. Don't put the plastic cover back. Try putting on the charger to make sure it's able to charge first. If it's not able to charge, it means the battery contact is not placed correctly.

Thanks a lot mate. I've finally fixed my right earbud on the second attempt. The battery replacement wasn't hard; you just have to place the battery accurately and test the charge before closing the cap to make it work. That's what I missed on the first attempt.
However, the removal of the outer cap was the most difficult job in my case. I was lucky enough to pry the cap from the opposite end of the ear indicator without knowing the double tape (the black circle part) on top of the flexible PCB (brown ribbon) had been stuck to the inner side of the outer cap. If the prying job was done on the ear indicator/brown ribbon's side, the brown ribbon is going to be teared into half for sure, and there would be another 100 bucks wasted.
So here are two pieces of advice for all future viewers. The first is to pry the outer cap ONLY from the side WITHOUT the L & R ear indicators; that indicated side is the end where the flexible PCB (brown ribbon) grows out from; make sure you do not open from that side. The second is to put your earbud into the charger to test your battery charging before sealing back the outer cap; it saves you the hassle of having to remove the cap to tweak your battery position again.

    Hi, did mine just now.
It was ok but I broke one of the tabs that hold the 'lid' - drop of CA glue fixed it.
Be careful about jamming stuff near the button - directly behind the (R) or (L) markings - thats were the tab I broke was ( you can see it at 4:05).
Just as I finished I thought about heating the headphones slightly before you start - blast them with hair dryer to make the plastic more flexible and glue a bit weaker.

I managed it on mine although getting the top caps off in the first step can be tricky. My first attempt of one bud went fine, came off quite easily with patience and not too much effort, no marks. The second one however was difficult and the sticky pad underneath would not break free. Ended up slightly cracking the body, using a metal tool to peel the cap back, jamming one pick in the other side. Total bastard. It came off and managed to get that battery replaced eventually too. Works fine, minimal visible damage but annoying it came to that. Pot luck I guess. As other comments say, don't put the caps back on just screw the board down and drop them in the case to see them light up red charging. I left them off like that til they fully charged before replacing the caps and then resetting them.

Very nice. After a year I was down to about 3 1/2 hours battery life, a big drop off from from the 6+ when new. I won't change the batteries just yet because I only tend to use one at a time for reasons, so I can get a days work out of them. But when the battery inevitably drops further below 3 hours and swapping them becomes annoying I'll give it a shot.

If the metallic holder you see at 8:40 falls off or comes apart dont worry. as long as you fix it in place in a way that guarantees contact when the battery is on, you'll be fine (visible at 9:50, not the big square, that's the chip, but closer to the left)

I still tore the delicate strip on the second one; Sony, with all the sticky tape, did not design this with replacement in mind. Fortunately it still works; I have just lost control of the left touch sensor, so the only way to pair now with a new device is via NFC, whereby I touch the case against an NFC-enabled phone. I also damaged one of the LED's; I was so careful, but its fiddly, and they drop out of your hands; its not turning on but it all works. If I get another year out fo the device (even 6 months), it was well worth it, Thanks for the informative video. I suggest removing the silicone cover and warming up with a hairdryer to soften the glue on the sticky tape bits

1 issue I've encountered though was after reassembling my left earphone, the button didn't work properly. It was constantly pushed.
I then took it apart again, made sure the battery is as flush as possible and is not pushing the button towards the exterior. once i did that, it was fine.
I think it is a pressure sensor, so it can't be under pressure.

I was finding my left earbud was running out of battery after 20 minutes when the right was still showing 70%. Thankfully bought two replacement batteries as the a couple of weeks later the right ear bud was lasting under an hour. Now lasting well over two hours on Teams calls.
Sellers on eBay and Amazon all seemed a bit dubious but I was able to buy compatible batteries from RS Components (LIR1254H / stock number 1834285) for about £20 for the pair including delivery.
When taking apart the left earbud I found the ribbon cable stayed attached to the top part of the case leaving the battery part able to come out once the screws were removed. The right ear disassembled as shown in your video - just something to be aware of when prizing apart. I also had some slightly glitchy behaviour immediately after swapping batteries where they wouldn't connect reliably. I think this was because they didn't have enough charge and they now work great.
Thanks for posting the video - I wouldn't have been confident swapping batteries out without seeing you do it first so you've saved me a chunk of money on new headphones (and more e-waste!)

My success rate became 50%. Managed to break the first bud (not only the ribbon, also plastic!) around 8:20. My recommendation: using parrot pliers (ones that give a parallel clasp) turned out giving a sturdy grasp on the battery. On the second unit, I used a twisting motion here, gently tiring the glue/fabric that was keeping the battery at base.

Thanks for the nice teardown. Very informative! A few things I noticed while doing the same job to mine..
    - The batteries can short very easily. Touching the top, bottom, and sides at the same time is a bad idea
    - The silicon holding down my metal battery connector came up with my old battery. In an attempt to save the old sticky, I tried to place the glue on the new battery. I put too much of it in between the connector and the battery, which prevented the right earbud from working. I took it apart again and totally removed the old sticky, and the earbud came right back.

Thanks, fixed 2 pairs, 4 batteries costed 6.99 euro. I have black and beige, black had Zeni power z55 batteries and baige pair had Varta, it was odd, both are made in malaysia. But beige batteries failed quicker than black zeni power ones, though black pair was bought first. now both pairs have lir1254 generic probably from ali, will see how it will perform. but the screws were a nightmare to undo,,, broke my tiny scredriver as I had to use pliars. Thank you for the video tutorial. helped greatly!

Something went wrong somewhere. I replaced both batteries but the right side isnt working anymore. When i put it in the case the case led lights up so it does detect the right earbud. But the led on the right earbud doesnt light up and no sound plays from it.
Edit: Audio works now. But the LED still doesn't. I guess i knocked something oof. But hey! The battery is fixed and that's the most important

Fantastic video and well explained. My right bud needed a new battery. It was tricky getting the top cover off as it felt partially glued and taking the battery out was also a fiddle as it was really tight. But patience and some decent tools did the trick. Saved me £220 having to upgrade to the XM5. Legend

Thanks for the video! While my battery still lasted around 3 hours it was starting to annoy me. Just now replaced the battery's in my earbuds with the newer CP1254 A4X. Hopefully they'll last a bit longer. Also for me the touch+mic ribbon stuck to the top cover instead of the internal plastic part. This actually made it somewhat easier as I didn't have to stress about the ribbon while replacing the battery.

I purchased Vartas from a US eBay seller named dealab. I returned them and got my money back. The batteries gave me 4.5 hour with ambient noise control and DSEE HX off, and probably lower volume than most people use. At least it was easier opening the buds the second time. If anyone finds a US seller that sells genuine new Vartas or Zenipower batteries please post.
