- I was blown away by this amp. Sounds good almost no matter what you do to it. For £330 you really can't go wrong. Didnt mention it in the video, but think the tone shift is awful and not worth touching, unless you want to go for 1990s Metallica, super scooped stuff.

I've been waiting on a peavey invective MH preorder for ages and I keep shopping around for something else to pass the time. Came across the DSL20H and you're right, it seems like a steal for the money. Your video and a few others make it sound way more expensive of an amp than it is. Ordered it today, can't wait for it to arrive. Well done on the vid.
FWIW I've had an axefx2 since it launched and there's always something missing for me when recording. I've tried all the sims available to mankind and it just falls flat. I'm sure a high grade mixing engineer can get sims to sound pro but almost every tube amp review has high quality recordings... Here's to hoping that my mixes start to shine a bit more :)
I think you're totally right, it is a steal and seemingly because its made in China. Doesn't make it any less good! So hopefully there are more bargains out there that get marked down for country of origin!
And yeah, totally get you, but an amp in a room rarely sounds 'bad' but any sim tends to take a bit more wiggling to get it sounding/feeling right.
Got this amp a month ago along with the Silver jubilee 2x12 cab. Perfect combo.
Fantastic job! Best video I’ve seen on this amp!
Thanks for a very good review and the playing was excellent Kai. I’m saving as we speak. I want one 😀 Keep up the good work I think you have something there. 👍👍
Thanks man, definitely worth saving up for!!
Hi Kai! Great review, thank you so much. I too have that amp and I really love it, it just sounds great!!!
Completely agree, for the money it’s unreal!
Super nice production and sound. Sub'd. Hope your channel grows.
Thank you so much! Me too, need to get some more content going when my work gets a bit quieter!
Good review!
Thanks for this video. Do you think you could get a more modern metal sound of this small amp with the right overdrive and/or EQ in the fx loop? Not a whole lot of videos on this amp using it for more heavy music so would love to hear your take on it!
I think so. It’s not overly flubby, so don’t think it ‘needs’ an OD pedal, but for sure they tighten everything up. The final part of this play through used a max on 808 and is a chunky counterparts type thing. I’d say it handles that real well. Not tried any low stuff on it though but may do in the future! It’s a great all rounder I’d say!
Hi excelente demo. Did you gig with It?
Thanks! I do not no, haven't played anywhere live in about 8 years or so sadly, and with the pandemic I doubt that will change anytime soon! Stage volumes really don't need to be loud these days though, so I imagine one could gig with it. Clean headroom may be a slight issue but I doubt it if there were good monitors at the venue.
Hi Kai. I've got this amp. Also love it, but have mostly used it with physical cabs. Can you tell me in more detail how you hooked the head up through your audio interface to use the cab IRs?
Yo, you will need a load box to stop your amp from blowing up. I use the two notes torpedo reload. So the chain is amp, speaker cable, two notes reload, mic cable, interface. Unless your amp has a specific feature enabling it to run without a cab, this will be the process for all amps. Amps need to be plugged into a CAB or Loadbox whenever they are on to avoid damage. Dan
@@kaisound868 thanks for that detail. Very helpful and interesting. I suppose this is where working with plugins is just easier and cheaper.
I have actually used the fx loop send on my DSL20H (with the physical speaker cab connected) to route into my audio interface and then run cab IRs in my DAW. This seemed to work well.
@@ozzyvknox Easier maybe, cheaper maybe not! Loadboxes aren't super cheap if you want a good one, probably cost more than a cheap cab.
Your solution would work however you would not be capturing the power amp in this situation which has a huge effect on the tone. The power amp only comes into pay at the speaker out I believe. Some designs may vary but not many I think.
@@kaisound868 I hear you on the power amp. I guess a loadbox (is that the same as a power soak?) enables one to use all your amp heads and push them through your audio interface to use cab IRs and record through your DAW and navy other good things. Thanks once again.
@@ozzyvknox Exactly! Although I don't know the specifics of a power soak relating to its output. The big thing for me about my loadbox model is that I don't have to have a cab plugged in at all, but if i want to I can and can set the cab to a comfortable level whilst the power amp is working nicely. Loadboxes can be expensive but to me living in a flat they are so valuable!
Have you tried the DSL100HR? If so, how does it compare to this one?
I've never had the privilege, I would check Sonic Drive Studio out, think he did a video on just that. My guess will be the 100 has more low end, but I cant see the amp needing that desperately. It may have a smoother high end as well, and obviously the headroom. But the 20 excels in areas too. Just depends on your needs I guess!
Hi Kai, I loved your video. Recently I also bought this amplifier and I loved it but I have a problem: after a few days of practice after buying it totally new, I notice a "click" sound when you change from Red to Green channel (I leave you a link: https: //ruclips.net/video/Ws_PumIqxaY/видео.html) this sound appears when you play a note on the guitar, let it sound and immediately change the channel, then a CLICK is heard, which is annoying because while more volume you have more greater is this CLICK.
If there is no guitar or sound in the amp, you can change the channel without annoyance, that is, there is no click in the moment when you change the channel.
later I went with a friend who has a DSL1 and has the same problem.
I have searched the internet but I have not found anything useful, I hope you can help me.
Regards.
Thanks for reaching out, sadly I can’t be much help as I’ve not had this problem. It certainly sounds annoying though! I would say contacting Marshall support is your best bet!
Does it do it with multiple different guitars?
Kai Sound yeah I try with different guitars and passive/active pickups.
Actually I’m waiting for the response of the store that i purchased the amp.
