I use a 28 gauge with #7 shot as well on upland birds and it works well for me too. According to Hodgdon's website data, the max charge with your components is 23 grains of Lil Gun @ 11,700 psi. Your tested load is quite a bit higher; something to consider. BTW, my brother recently got one of your vests and has been using it and likes it a lot. I tried it on and got to say the lumbar pad in the back feels really nice. I may have to swap with him and give it a try.
@@DougSchoenung appreciate the comment! The test report shared with me, was right at 12200 if I recall exactly. I haven’t had any pressure signs of any sort yet but always thankful for folks ensuring safety! Definitely goes bang with a lighter powder load for sure! Thankful for the kind words on the vest as well! Hope he’s a good brother and lets ya try it out! 🇺🇸
@@ItsChoeTime a few years ago, 28 gauge shells were super readily available and only $14 or so a box. Now, companies are charging 24-30 for the same loads. I can easily load a box for less than $14, depending on the type of powder, shot quality, etc. The up front cost is acquiring the equipment but if you shoot and hunt enough, and just enjoy the hobby of reloading in general, it’s worth it.. cheaper than drugs I suppose? 🤣
@@Brycesiegle thanks for watching! I shoot traditional lead in the 7s and larger. I do have a .410 load that I use nickel plated 8s in though and it’s a doozie on em!
@@dustinhopkins6470 I shoot skeet / IC on almost all my guns. As season progress I may bump up to skeet / mod, but I shoot a lot of double trigger guns so it’s easy to start at the back trigger and hit a longer shot. Always seems there’s one lingering close that having that wide open barrel for makes it worth it.
@@christopherhevener3661 this particular load didn’t come from a manual and was tested by a good friend and given to me. Certain places will test loads and get you load pressure, speed, etc. kinda cool! A really good reloading manual for the 28 and .410 is the “small bore” manual from ballistic products. There’s some great reloading Facebook groups as well 👍🏼
Excellent tutorial! Well done. Very informative step-by-step.

Are you saving money buy making your own ammo? or is it just the fun of making the ammo itself? What is the cost per round if you can share?

Another great video Matt! I was curious if you are shooting nickel plate lead or just traditional lead? Thank you!

What change do you make for later in the season? 6’s?
@@borderland_upland yes sirrr! There is some wiggle room in the powder charge as well if you want to speed it up for later season, longer shots.
Good video. Thank you.

wish theyd have stuff like this for 16g
What kind of pressure are you getting with this load? I shoot your 7/8oz load and it is a Pheasant knocker. Keep them coming. Thanks
@@larrygriffen2887 this load is right at 12000 psi vs that 7/8oz load which is around 11000, so fairly comparable 👊🏼
