English stock, 28 gauge, over-under. But mine is the Ruger Red label. Purchased the 1st year Ruger made it available. Grouse, Doodles and even Pheasants. If you ever find one at a gun shop, don't hesitate to bring it home.
I have a CZ Bobwhite 20g side by side, I had some trigger work done by CZ to lighten the trigger pull made it a very good shotgun for under 800.00 dollars.
My 12 has great triggers but it's heavy for mountain hunting, especially after I put lead in the butt to balance it on the action instead of in front of the pin. I wanted a 20 but this one came up, still kinda regret not waiting it out. But on the other hand I did get to hunt through the shortages, I could find ammo.
I have a Beretta A400 Xplor in 28 gauge, I love it! Thank you for your videos Steve! I always love shooting shotguns and I appreciate all of the footage you bring to the shotgun world! Keep up the great work Steve!
Even though Ben is a friend from the draht SEHC....I gotta go with you for the side by side....ultimate bird hunting setup. I also love straight grip, double triggers, extractors, etc. Both are great...Love my 16g from UGC.
Maybe Ben’s for practicality but both are amazing. Great video. I agree with Ben's analysis that the biggest thing is sight picture (once you get used to double trigger). I still find i'm slightly more consistent with over/under and single barrel guns. I like the prince of wales grip as a compromise between the extremes of grips.
Absolutely the SxS. With the straight stock and splinter fore end. That gun is built for point and shoot instinctive shooting. The OU is a great clay gun, but sight picture isn’t as good as a SxS.
Right from the start, I'd take an over and under, rubber butt pad because in my world my guns spend a lot of time leaning on stuff and you lost me at 30 inch barrels. 24 or 26 at most catch less on swings.
That surprises me also. I have a specialized English stock grouse gun - a Browning BPS 20-gauge pump with 22” barrels 🤣. Have had it since I was a teenager and it is fantastic especially in thick young aspen stands.
@@sawyerplume3321 Ha ha. Nice. I’m an average shot. At best. Right handed. Left eye dominant. I have a couple very fine O/U expensive shotguns I’ve used for a couple decades. I recently dug out my Remington 870 Wingmaster 12-gauge pump 28” barrel and I’ve significantly increased my kill ratio on pheasants. And I’m having more fun with it. Go figure.
Woodcock, definitely a British SxS. Grouse, is generally a 32 S&W long pistol! lol 👍🏼 Both those guns were very nice for a semi affordable new gun. So many amazing old 26” British box locks that are practically giving away however so I gotta go with the classics. Beautiful old used guns don’t pay the bills however so you guys did great! 👍🏼
Both shotguns are awesome, I've never owned a side by side but Ben's gun would probably fit me better, I'm built like him. Send me that gun Ben! 😂Big shoutout to the awesome dogs!
For better grip and hand placement with splinter forearm (as found on some doubles) I use a leather handgaurd. Both guns would be outstanding grouse woods smokepoles, in my opinion. I really appreciate the tips using OnX.
Side by side gives me the fizz, however I prefer a classic sidelock as opposed to the boxlock. Ejectors add joy to the whole experience as long as I have one of my Sons along to pick up the shells for me…if not, extractors are just fine. There is nothing quite like an English shotgun. Cheers.
Without hesitation the Over Under because of the ejectors and screw in chokes. These features make a gun very versatile. Besides, I can't accurately shoot a side by side to save my life.
I shoot a 10% rusted, $120 H&R topper turkey 12 ga it's light has sling swivels and reliable. Heading to the squirrel woods now for a quick limit hopefully.great video!!!!
So after the fashion show is over… the only question that is at all relevant is which gun looks better after you’ve dropped it a few dozen times scrambling over slash in the other North Woods in ME…. Also, after everyone is done dorking out over case colors and engraving, a fine auto loader in 20 or, my fav, 16 (the old school ideal gauge) is hard to beat. Go put your hands on a new Browning A5 in 16 at 5lbs12oz, appreciate the third follow up shot (run it heavy in a #6) and come back and tell me I’m wrong.
Side by sides for life. Still have my first side by side that patterns great with all my buckshot, buck n ball, ball & upland handloads. Its my go to hunt gun for deer, hog & upland and had killed more animals than any of my other shotguns I own. Its a Stevens 311 Series H that was originally my moms from the lates 70s. A few years ago I got it from my Uncle & since I was doing Gunsmithing classes with AGI and was apprenticing with a gunsmith here it became my project gun and man I brought that thing back to life from polish chamber and bore, re facing, refinishing the bluing and oldschool month long BLO handrubbed application. Only thing I do need make is a new forend. My uncle pulled the ole bubba and fucking dremeled the wood where the shoe fits so its a little wobbly but hey, it still fits and shoots.
I'm an O/U guy. When I see SxS guns I think stagecoaches thanks to watching way too many cowboy western movies as a kid. I can't wrap my head around using a SxS in the woods.
The ultimate upland shotgun is an 870 youth model :) But if I had to choose from these two, I'd pick the SxS just 'cause they look so damn cool and are a bit rarer.
Really loving your channel, been binge watching a lot of your videos. What would your recommendations be for someone wanting a great semi auto 20ga that can just do it all for under $1000???
Nah, the 12 gauge is the Lord's gauge, it's universal, and it's cheap and easy to come by. 16 is also solid but it's not as cheap and easy to come by, and the guns it's chambered for aren't as wide spread anymore. 20 gauge is solid as well.
I thought the same thing until I got one. I like it with a double trigger gun. It makes it easier for me to slide my hand back slightly after the first shot and connect with the rear trigger
Nah, the ultimate upland hunting shotgun is something that's practical for clays and all forms of hunting and home defense. That's a pump or semi auto. I prefer the 1100 or the 870. The Ithaca 31 or Winchester Model 12 or Mossberg 500 are solid choices, but there's many others. The double is classic but only for clays and upland.
Ben , living North East of GR. What gps system are you using on your dog? Did I see it's linked to your watch? I'm assuming garmin . Any way to link my dog to my OnX ? That would be Sweet!
The side by side for sure but I’d wear my baseball cap the way it was designed to be worn. 😉😂
100% without a doubt. Dead giveaway of fashion over function mindset. Just wear a toboggin / beanie cover and be done.
Hat is backwards so he can have a larger field of view to see targets.
You wanna call it a baseball cap than neither one of them should be wearing it as they aren’t playing baseball.
@ I agree
Built for speeed
I really like this kind of content on the channel. Keep em coming, Steve

Double trigger side -by-side. All day, every day
Bens over under. I have a hard time with the side by side. Both beautiful guns.
I have a Beretta A400 Xplor in 28 gauge, I love it! Thank you for your videos Steve! I always love shooting shotguns and I appreciate all of the footage you bring to the shotgun world! Keep up the great work Steve!
Which shotgun would you choose? The O/U or the SxS? Let us know down below!

The Ruffed grouse is the greatest hunting 🍁🍂🌲🌞👍

Love this kind of content from the channel as well!!!
SXS 20ga for me, with rubber pad, forget engraving. Both look like great guns guys, Happy Huntin!
Right from the start, I'd take an over and under, rubber butt pad because in my world my guns spend a lot of time leaning on stuff and you lost me at 30 inch barrels. 24 or 26 at most catch less on swings.
Side-by-side for sure. I love my CZ Bobwhite G2 Project Upland in 28 Gauge. It looks pretty much identical to Steve's SxS in this video.
30 in Barrels?! That’s crazy to me in the Grouse woods! I will be getting a 20 or 28 sxs to hunt over my English pointer next year.
That surprises me also. I have a specialized English stock grouse gun - a Browning BPS 20-gauge pump with 22” barrels 🤣. Have had it since I was a teenager and it is fantastic especially in thick young aspen stands.
@ I hunt with an old BPS 20 myself. Upland Daze on here and you can see how poor I shoot it lol

Ben’s gun looks amazing, but a sxs behind a bird dog has its own classy charm to it.
For better grip and hand placement with splinter forearm (as found on some doubles) I use a leather handgaurd. Both guns would be outstanding grouse woods smokepoles, in my opinion. I really appreciate the tips using OnX.
Over and under but in 20 gauge.
Indeed! If you're on a budget (or tend to beat upland guns in the thick wood) ATI Turkeyfowl is a great rig. Grouse, turkey, whitetail 👍
A 28 gauge double, two triggers 26 inch barrels with open chokes .
You've nailed it Eddie 👌
I’ve only grouse hunted a few times and found it’s definitely a humbling experience. Nice video!
Steve, you don’t wait for the bird to rise you just blast, because you only get one chance. Great video keep them coming.

Have hunted grouse about 60miles west of Duluth. My go to gun is a 1950’s Winchester model 12 featherweight with a 26” ic barrel

Thanks Steve,
What a super video!
Side by side all the way. Love my 20 guage. Great video
S/S 28ga. The only upgrade i want is ejecters. Thats an absolute must in a hunting gun
One of the best videos that shows how grouse hunting is lol
Old school double barrel all the way! 🥰
Looks fun! Love my 12ga but have a blast with my sub guages
Both are great guns but i would take the SxS!
I was out all day today. Flushed one and another came out. A perfect hit on it. It fell in a swamp and I couldn't find it. Fun time though.
Side by Side, love my custom side by side 20 gauge
I'm trying to figure out why they were hunting with the guns broke open
The shotguns i prefer to use are side by side almost always.
O/U all day every day!
Side by side all the way for me. 😀
Your's is beutiful. But I have to go with the over under of Ben's. His is a very beutiful gun.
Over and under

Been a fan of the Yildiz Legacy HP 20GA for a few years now.
Side by side for sure
32 inch barrels it’s a mistake in the woods.
If I were duck hunting, CZ Redhead All Terrain, the over under for water !!
Ithaca 20 gauge skb 600 nuff said
Would like to see a review on the stodgier m 3000 signature semi auto shogun with engraved nickel receiver 12ga . Keep up the grate reviews
I’m going with the SxS! Greetings from 🇨🇦
20 gauge Franchi or Benelli ultra light semi auto, those OU/SS are very pretty but you're at a disadvantage.
I like Ben’s O/U better. I feel like with a SxS it obstructs view a little
28 ga ou all the way hate 2 triggers

Over Under
Side by side
Side by side. I prefer selectable single trigger.
I'd be too scared to take either of them hunting. Best gun is a $400 pawn shop gun I can use as a walking stick if need be 😅
SxS for Forest hunting and o/u for prairie hunting
Over-Under. I don't understand the English stock. How can that be comfortable?
I thought the same thing until I got one. I like it with a double trigger gun. It makes it easier for me to slide my hand back slightly after the first shot and connect with the rear trigger
I'll take them both!😁
The OU all the way
The s/s all the way!!!!
Awesome video. Can we get a full review on the weatherby sorix
You need to review the Weatherby Orion sxs

Muy fácinantes videos de cazeria amigos saludos y de armas
Sxs single trigger .28 ga.
Hey Guys! What do you think of a 410 ga for grouse?
Please, I’d like to hear your opinions .
Not enough gun to get through the cover.
side by side is far more classy,
Over/under but in 20 gauge.
The sxs
Looking into ordering an upland
Highly recommend 💯
amazing video thanks
I don’t understand the appeal of these guns instead of a 3 shot semi-automatic. Is this a fashion show or a hunt to end up with grouse for dinner?
Over and Under for me please!
Side by side myself. But I'm a cowboy hat guy.
jmp
Hey Steve what boots did you have on ?
When are we gonna get the weatherby sorix video
SxS !! 😎👍
I am going with Ben gun
I'm a side by side guy.
What vests are they wearing
SXS all the way
