This video helped me so I said I would my experiences that might help someone else. I had a problem that the fan/heater stopped working after some water got in because the water drain got blocked. My care is the newer version of the Picasso which is similarr to Micks but slightly different. Turns out the blower motor was burned out and needed to be replaced. This video helped me get access to the motor but it took me a while to figure out how to get the motor out. Turns out there was only one screw on the blower motor (shown on the video on the right side of the resistor)... once this was out it took a hard clockwise turn of the black part of the motor and it came out. I was able to get a used replacement and I was back in business. Hope this helps someone out there
Great video with very clear instructions. Thanks Mick you saved this lady a trip to the garage. After watching your video I was able to fit the new motor in no time
Brilliant, had the exact same problem. Got it all out, gave the resistor a good scrub with a metal brush as had a build up of white powdery stuff, put it all back together and the blower is as good as new. Mrs very happy to driver her car again!
Hi, My Citroen C4 Grand Picasso heater blower was making a noise like a card in a bikes spokes. Found your site and watched your video and removed the blower unit to find a feather inside it! Put it back together and it is now as quite at a mouse. Great instructions. Many thanks Barry
Hay I'm so pleased it worked out for you and my video helped you out.. I see your channel name bus /train related.. I work for network rail on the track
Great to learn where the blower is located. Another video showed it being behind the center dash, but this video show it on the right spot. My blower did not work but the display did and all the settings. I read an idea on a forum on how you should smack it really hard. So I had the car running for a while and then gave the plastics beneath the blower some hard fists, one swirling sound and then silent. I moved on hitting the dashboard (this being a LHD) really hard like five times..ta-da. The blower started working and the next day the blower fired right up just as I was turning the key to start the car.
Great video! I discovered that one of the brushes wasn't touching the computator, so I carefully levered the end cap and spring out and sprayed a little WD-40 and freed the brush. Motor works OK now and after cleaning is refitted. The cause I feel is water ingress from blocked drain tubes in the back of the wheel arch behind the protector.
I got to the blower under the passenger side, hit it hard with my hand many times, it was stuck, I heard it trying, then heard playing card in spokes sound, then I kept hitting it, and it fired right up full speed blowing now! Wow! Heat / Ac is on! This will give me more time to check the blower, order a new blower or sell the car. Thank you! 😅
Impressive video, I'm tech savvy but not car mechanical savvy, your logical steps to resolve were very good, helpful and made perfect sense, thanks for sharing 👍
Great video and instructions, i cleaned my resistor up, which was corroded on terminals, and it's running sweetly, i expect to have to do the same thing next year though, but great for now, thanks a lot!
Keep going mick you get there I had same problem on a old vw sharan took the motor out and thought I got a Ford Fiesta one in shed took the brushes out of Ford one they fitted straight into vw sharan and worked a dream
Used this excellent video to fix my blower. Quoted £110 by Euro parts for a resistor. Got a new one from eBay for 35. To test if power cable is good, check the voltage with a multimeter, if blower runs on 12v then it's the resistor by default.
Had the heater motor fail on a drive back from Cornwall yesterday on my 2008 Picasso C4 Exclusive - about a week after I cleared the blocked scuttle drains (about 3 litres of water came out). Failing on the drive back was a real problem as it was cold and the aircon and demist didn't work at all. On cold days the car would be undriveable. Anyway, I took the heater blower out this morning. The bulkhead (front) mount screw was a real pain to get to. I got as far as taking off the bearing housing, checked the brushes and commutator - they were really black. Spun the commutator with a small bit of grit paper to try and get the muck off, then a kitchen towel, then sprayed over with contact cleaner. Then I put the motor back in with just connectors attached, without mounting the motor in the housing. Started the car and started the fan. Everything worked as it should. So the fan is back in and hopefully it stays that way. The forward bolt is a real pain to get in as there's no room to get your hand in. The white powdery stuff on the module is of no consequence - it's just aluminium oxide on the heatsink but shows there is excess moisture maybe. Sometimes handling the motor or hitting it might make it work as it may temporarily restore the brushes contact with the commutator - but it won't be a long term solution and it will fail again at some point for sure. Thanks for this video - it saved me a few hundred quid the local garage wanted to charge. The garage wouldn't have stripped the motor to get to the commutator and would have just put a new motor in (at £150 now from Eurocarparts they're not cheap + £65/hour labour) probably about £300 total.
Persevere mick, I had the same issue with a clio radio, said it was tested, when it arrived the cd player kept saying error. Guy just sent me a replacement which worked, I wouldn't pay a garage just to redo all the testing you have done, I had a clio for 13 years and became quite adept at fault finding on the electrical systems! 😂 😂
2007 Citroen C4 Grand Piccaso here. Blower not blowing, no heat, no AC blowing, Winter is coming. I will take it apart tomorrow and hope I can find the culprit and unclog the drains.
Hi mick i bought two alloy wheels and tyres off free eBay they also said tried and tested and they was all when got them one was fine the other was flat and it had a dirty great big screw in it great video as always hope you get it sorted for misses P
I'm not a professional Mick but I have done this very thing a few times. I would say both blower motors are bad. They should run when hooked straight to a battery. As for the resistor I was told it's only needed to run the fan on the high setting. Just a side note I couldn't help but notice that van has a manual gearbox, you just don't see passenger vans with manual gearboxes here in the states , I think that is just fascinating
Keep at it mate like other guys have said the seller has sold you a dud motor as clearly if power running to plug it should work as soon as you switch it on hopefully you have better luck with the other motor

I'm only getting 3volts up to 4.5 on the small thin 2 wires. It's goes up and down as I turn up and down fan on controls. Is there clips to get fan control part off. My fan ran for a bit then stopped its like its an intermittent problem. I'm 12 volts in out on the grey and black thick wires but not on small thin ones
Hi Mick how did you get the back nut out. I have the 5.5mm nut with a small extension bar .I just can't get purchase on the nut to undo it . Any tips ? Tools or am I missing something? Thanks
Hi there. I have been trying to fix my C4 blower problem, i was hoping you can help. Problem: Blower is on all the time. The buttons on the drivers side dont work when changing the blower settings. The only button that works on the drivers side of the buttons is the AC button. In addition ,when i press the Defogger button, for some reason that triggers the AC to turn on and blast full blast. Another strange factor to consider. On the passenger side, there is a button which turns the heater/fan on or off, and also controls if its hot or cold. that button does work, for the passenger side with no issues. But it only controls the air on the passenger side, and only controls the option for on/off, and hot/cold. I sent the blower to be fixed by someone local, but they didnt know how to troubleshoot the resistor (i wish they would have seen your video,) So they didnt replace the resistor So my questions are: 1) Should i be exchanging the button control board on the drivers side since the fan doesnt seem to be responding to it? 2) Should i be changing the resistor which sits on the blower? Btw one of the teeth connectors on the resistor has melted plastic around it, so it seems it burned out at some point. which is why im thinking thats the culprit. But i want to make sure im not confusing that for an issue with the button control board. Because why does the Heat/Cold controller on the passenger side work? Thank you :)
Thanks Mick! I had exact same problem & because of your video I will be able to change the motor myself that my mechanic told me to buy! Save another booking in eh!! Can you tell me what you did when that rain water gathers in the dash area as that happens in mine too!
Hi I'm glad you found it helpful.. to stop the water from getting in you will need to remove the cover inside the bonnet where the windshield wipers are.. when you have taken it off down on each side inside the compartment you will find tow little plastic doors.. just lift them and clean them out. One on each side of the car..
Mine is a 2010.. you have to clean out the water drains. Found in the engine bay.. you have to remove the wipers and the plastic grills under the wipers.. them halfway down you will see 2 rubber boots.. flush them out and that should do it
It's just worked now I had it out like u said cleaned it greased it etc put it back but no power to big connection going in. Now when I came out 2day just plugged connectors in and hey presto it's working but if I knew what fuse powers blow some say f14 f37 f14 is only 10 amp checked fuses all working current going tru either side of fuses. Anyway good video happy Xmas.
If it's a brushed motor, try cleaning the copper commutator (end of the motor that the brushes ride on) with some scotch brite. Give it a proper spray down after with electrical contact cleaner. Let the contact cleaner evaporate, then attempt to bench test the motor again. If it still doesn't spin up, turn your electrical tester to Continuity with BEEP on, determine which of the two spade terminals goes to the ground (Frame of the motor). Then, you can use one jump wire to the frame of the motor and connect positive battery to the terminal that does not have continuity to the frame to see if the motor will spin. From what I could see, the copper commutator that the brushes ride on looked to be pretty dark in color. This could be all that's wrong is dirty brushes and copper commutator. Let us know my Friend! Zip~
@@dirtriderkx500 Thanks Dirt! Been around Automotive electronics since my middle teens and battled my fair share of faulty blower motors. With that motor being head down, any moisture will collect at the brushes and commutator, contaminating them. At least that's how I saw it in Mick's video. Yes I believe the motor should spin with 12v to it. Do know some of the newer cars here in the US use the ground as the control side of the circuit so you would have a full 12v to the motor on all speed settings.
Hi ed. Yeaj apparently he has just tested another and is sending it out. In the meantime I'm going to give the brushes a clean ro see if I can get it working

Hi mate. He is shipping another one out that he has just tested. So fingers crossed. Also I'm going to take the other one apart and give it a good clean..
Dont think you should go anywhere near garage i think. I am going to tell this right now if it dont work 12v its goosed. I havent done this on a Citreon But had same issue on a Pug It was the heater Blower unit. The car belonged to my mate lol We replaced the blower unit and regulater. I know this as fact parts sit in a dimatlers or breakers for months somtimes and can be tested at time of storage so they may work then but after 6 months on a shelf they might wrong. I think you will find when he send you a replacment it will work I normally ask the seller on ebay when it was removed as this affect the part how it was stored I.e damp work shop. I can allmost say it for 100% that the guy has sold you a duff motor
You need to take your wheel arch liners off and unblock your drain tubes it was corroded from water getting into motor housing your brushes in motor were seized in holders, with multimeter easy check across both terminals on motor, you should get a low ohm reading if not brushes not in contact with commutator
2nd hand parts crap 12 v supply runs now and again Worn brushes Pleaser buy new parts heater blower motors will run but turning them through different angles will make them slow down or stop
ah yes, seen it now, I’ve ordered a new one as our one is rusty, so I’m guessing the motors gone Thanks for your video, made life so much easier cheers Update.. new one works perfect, old one was corroded, I used the original capacitor so saved money on a new one
Mate, it is not a resistor module on the blower, it's a mosfet controlled regulator. Did you see any kind of resistor or module inside the motor ? There's supposed to be one ?
Micks Mowers.. I was told there was a resistor inside, but by 2nd thoughts I don’t think so as only 2 wires are going into the blower. Mine is working again. Found a connector that was melted between the control panel and the regulator module
Try live to connected and neg to body of motor if it runs the other pin could be live to for different speeds the citreon relay van is wired that way from the recister
Yeah I hear what your saying but it still should run when wired up. I have another on it's way. I'm also going to clean up the old one to see if I can get it running

Sell it and buy a Chevy lol. But no on a serious note it could be in the switch part of the controller so if this next one doesn’t work I’d say replace the switch on the dash and see if by chance that fixes the issue ???

Just had the same problem but want to check fuse first any idea where it is? Tia
No mate .. I would say the engine bay
Thanks a lot,mate!
Welcome mate
Yeah mate. I have another one on it's way and then going to clean the other ones up.
You must check the brush!
Hi mate i am having the exact same problem on the wifes car, please can you help, did you ever get this resolved ?
Watch part two mate
You need to take your wheel arch liners off and unblock your drain tubes it was corroded from water getting into motor housing your brushes in motor were seized in holders, with multimeter easy check across both terminals on motor, you should get a low ohm reading if not brushes not in contact with commutator
2nd hand parts crap 12 v supply runs now and again Worn brushes Pleaser buy new parts heater blower motors will run but turning them through different angles will make them slow down or stop
In the meantime Mick I think you should buy Mrs P some thermal long johns, vest and gloves. It's been so cold. Good luck with the heater.
She has some lol two pairs
Send it back and find another... looking forward to part 2
Another one is on its way
Hi Mick, my wife (also a Mrs P!) has a C4 Picasso, same problem, did you fix this?
Hi mate yeah it sorted it.. I think I did 2 videos on it
ah yes, seen it now, I’ve ordered a new one as our one is rusty, so I’m guessing the motors gone
Thanks for your video, made life so much easier cheers
Update.. new one works perfect, old one was corroded, I used the original capacitor so saved money on a new one
@@SimonHH900 cool hope it does the job
Mate, it is not a resistor module on the blower, it's a mosfet controlled regulator.
Did you see any kind of resistor or module inside the motor ? There's supposed to be one ?
No I can't say I did see one.. and I took it apart.. I have another one in the shed I will have a look at that one
Hello we are new Subscribers to your channel. We love the content and hope we can stay connected ❤️. Very awesome Channel by the way 👍😀
Very frustrating after waiting for it to be delivered to find out its a none working part I bet Mrs p is well hacked off no fun driving with no heater with frosty mornings fingers crossed replacement will work fine
Ta mate. Should be here friday so will update you when it comes
Persevere mick brother just a small set back garage will cost ££££some parts say there test and there not staff don’t always
Don’t buy new second hand will do stay positive it will be another feather in ones 🧢
Will do mate. I have another on it's way that he has tasted. Then I'm going to clean the brushs
Thanks a lot!!!
That commutator looks very dirty Mick I think that the brushes could be worn
Yeah mate I have just been watching some videos on it and will be picking up some contact cleaner and brushes.. I will give it a clean and see what happens..
Try euro parts for new parts or German swidish and French both cheaper than dealership
Got another motor on it's way.
Have a little patience with it mick , you will sort it eventually buddy , surely its a faulty blower mower ,
Maybe. I'm getting another one shipped to me and in the meantime going to clean the other one up..
Ive had it in the past were car breakers claim there tried and tested but ive come to my own opinion there just removed from the car and shipped to us without testing , hope you get it sorted soon mate , you need heaters in this weather
i would say its another faulty motor it should work when connected to a 12 v supply i have tested a few this way myself.
Yeah possibly dirty brushes too. Another one on it's way so fingers crossed..
He's probably tryed to send you a duff one out hopefully your next one will work
I dont think he teated it. Another one is on it's way.
I would fix it my self and save money
No disrespect but common sense should kick in when it’s an electrical problem you always fit new parts you should’ve just put a brand new motor in and resistor job done it won’t break the bank not that expensive turn it on my own C4 I think it was about 60 quid for the both of them solve the problem
No do not take it to a dealer . Try another fan . You are right the fan is bad .
brushes on motor gone mick
Yeaj maybe. That is where im looking next.
Sell it and buy a Chevy lol. But no on a serious note it could be in the switch part of the controller so if this next one doesn’t work I’d say replace the switch on the dash and see if by chance that fixes the issue ???
Yeah mate it's on my list of jobs to do
Hi mick
Hi mate
@@themowerman hi.. did you get it all working? I have same problem with mine now.. if I give the dash a thump it will come on. But sound's terrible. Really loud.
@@kevinoneill8982 hi mate.. yeah I did a second video on it to show it worked
@@kevinoneill8982 ruclips.net/video/gs4oMttargU/видео.html
hopefully the other one he sends out to u will be fine
Let's hope so mate
hello mick
hello mick, i have a problem with my grand c4 aswell, when i turn the engine on, the blower is normally on and it won’t switch off, controls are working ok, just if i start the engine, the blower is on, please give advise or i can visit your place, thanks
@@eraniogranada2040 you probably got water trapped in the resister or blower as the current is on all the time
