The film doesn't show enough of Tarzan's real "Human" parents, only them leaving the castle and them being shipwrecked... i wish its could have shown them a little more. Still though an absolutely brilliant film
this is a Great Film. Shows John Greystoke conflicting as both Tarzan (wild man) and as the Earl of Greystoke (civilized Englishman). And it does not mention Tarzan's name
This film suffers from bad editing (and too much editing); I've seen several scenes that would help tie things together better, round out the characters better, and in general make the whole film as alive as Hudson's classic Chariots of Fire. But the theatrical version and the DVD version don't include them, even as extras. It's a shame. A film legend like this can't be encapsulated, no true epic can. Look at Spartacus or Lawrence of Arabia.
Maybe they feared the movie would be too long. What scene would you have deleted to include more of their biological parents? A positive effect of not showing more of them is that the spectator emphatizes more with the chimp adoptive "father", especially in the sad scene of its death.
In the original story of Tarzán of the apes by Edgar rice Burroughs Tarzan human biological parents John Clayton ii and Alice Clayton of greystoke staying in the african jungle in the República democratica of Congo in África living the Tarzan human biological parents John Clayton ii and Alice Clayton of greystoke staying in the african jungle in Congo in África, Tarzan was born in the african jungle.
So here it's a ship wreck rather than a mutiny. Why? Such a needless change, and all the shitty ship parts unrealistically cast about don't help it any. Plus in doing so it just skips over Mr. Greystoke's characterization as a fight-breaking badass who has tensions with the captain, yet attempts to save him anyway -- which implies that the reason why Tarzan has such a good moral compass is that it was passed down from father to son. This movie really doesn't deserve the 'most accurate adaptation,' handle at all and kinda just reads as a crappier earlier version of the later Disney remake.
This scene terrified me as a child. Totally underrated and forgotten classic.
This is a beautiful film. Good luck trying to top this with Tarzan film coming out in 2016. Thank you for sharing this.
