The disconnection with Fimi drones is nearly always due to the crappy phone cable they provide. Replace it with a better cable and the problem usually disappears. I find the FIMI drones are actually great flyers
I own the Mini 2 for 2 years. Apart from a gimbal calibration error (which the outcome of all this is improper gimbal calibration procedure) it's working flawlessly. My father owns two Xiaomi Mi 4K Drones (yes the big, Phantom-like ones) and the problem is that within 2 years, it stopped updating. Very poor support it has, so does the Fimi X8 SE as well as this specific one. After almost 3 years, DJI keeps pushing frequent updates on this drone and I'm glad they keep putting more and more patches in place. Impressive for a consumer grade little drone.
The Idaho Quadcopter Channel also had massive problems with the Fimi X8 Mini. If people want to buy this drone for the price, they should just buy the DJI Mini SE and have a better experience at a better price.
I just bought this drone for some Cinematic shots. I didn’t have the money to spring for the expensive high end company’s. I felt this was the best bang for my buck in its price range. I also think the footage is really good for the price point. It seemed like the tracking only did ok when kyan was jogging. I assume it would be decent for a slower paced follow behind scene. Anyways, I appreciate the video!
Good video. If you could give the manufacturer’s date of your Fimi mini? I went thru 2 mini’s. First had jittery video and the second kept disconnecting and final straw was one motor stopped working. Sent both back to B&H. Both mini were made in 03-2021. The last one had a date of 05-2021 on the box but the drone was dated 03-2021. The second one had good video and all the features worked except for disconnecting. Tried different phones, cables still had the problem. Several times could not get the FPV back after unplugging the cable. Gave up and got the Fimi x8 2020. So far so good.
My x8 mini is a pain to get fpv going, works sometimes, my last good flight it went further with fpv than my mavic mini did then returned when connection was lost. I'm using a Sony xperia 1 ii
Hello Dustin , I have a Fimi 2020 flew it a few times without issue ..now I cannot get it to connect to the app..the drone starts and fly’s but nothing at all on the app ..no video ..no anything ..I erased the app ..re downloaded it ..new account ..I can’t get it to work ..any advise to cure the issue would be greatly appreciated..Thank you Sir !

Hey I have a review idea for you (that I don't think you have done *could be wrong*) - what about taking a DJI drone (or any decent/supported drone) and do a thorough review and demo of the Litchi app. I really do like it, even though it seems to be in perpetual beta form I am enjoying the FPV-like functionality of the app though I have not played with Waypoints or some of the more exotic things. Would love you to do a A to Z review of it.

I seen guys having trouble with their data cables. Since the new mini came out my 2020 is getting that blotchyness and flickering I was wondering do they share the same app I was flying with one two days ago but didn’t check.
Thank you for reviewing this drone. It still has something not as good as the Mavic mini. But I heard the hubsan zino mini pro is much better than this, it has better video streaming, longer flight time even has three obstacles avoidance on its 249 grams body. Maybe you can review it some day in the future.

Hey mate, you might now remember but a couple years ago you put a video about the Hubsan H501s and had a bee swarm as an addition to it 😂. Anyway, I've recently got the same drone and I am unable to IMU calibrate. It just won't work. Why is this? Also, I've reached 600m and then lost control and video went black. Is this normal or can I do something to get further? Thanks in advance
Was hoping the FIMI Mini X8 performance came out better than that. The FPV cut outs were definitely unacceptable. Looks like there is some serious tuning required on the Firmware updates. But there was some positives too and hope FIMI can turn things around to make it a more balanced composition in the current market. Great review Dustin and look forward to the tests with the pro battery as this will be the option I think most go for top keep weight below 250g 👍
I was fairly impressed by your review & there were some niggling issues but with firmware updates this should solve them. Picture / video may not be quite up to standard of DJI (send I do have the new Mavic Air 2 & use to have the first mini but sold it) I thought it was pretty good really and being new all even the best have issues including DJI (lots of issues with the new mavic 3 to) I've ordered my Fimi x8 mini and are looking forward to getting it. It's 29/11/2021 today and have looked at some other reviews on this and they been not too bad. And distance one fellow got 4 kilometres each way (8kms) so fairly impressive. Yes I like DJI but it's nice to have a variety of well known brands. This is my first Fimi drone amongst DJI /bugs series/ etc. Love your reviews are honest and upfront and you take risks I probably wouldn't take. However here in Perth Western Australia, it is the 3rd or 4th windiest city in the world so we have to pick & choose carefully before taking off. Cheers mate, keep up good work.

Thanks for the review of the FIMI X8 Mini. Based on the review I definitely am not going to buy it based on the wacky operation of the app losing connection and the poor performance of stability and the Mini being blown off the target when taking off and the poor tracking capabilities. Instead of buying the FIMI X8 Mini I am going to spend more money on a DJI Mini.
Get the mini 2 or 3 (it should be out by this November). Those are much better. You wouldn’t regret it. The regular mini is prone to motor speed issues, fly aways, and it also can’t go far, has a 2.7K camera, and has trouble in wind. The mini 2 uses occusync 2.0, has longer flight time, can go 6 miles, does a lot better in wind, shoots in 4K and has many more functions. The mini 3 is gonna be really similar

You said it's not as good as dji. Of course it matches the price of him ... Cheaper than dji...cheap goods will not be on par with expensive goods... but the fimi camera is more beautiful and the gimble is smoother than the dji
Awesome video dude and in depth. Liked and Subscribed. Surely this is the best budget drone for more serious flyers (non professional stuff) who dont want to shell out for a DJI right? The 2022 version is out now, not much difference to this one but it has some improvements that make it more appealing. I see some ppl bitching in comments about little things that they consider unacceptable etc etc but these must be folks flying the expensive drones so I can understand their bias etc. Forgetting all that would you say this is the one to get if you're not wanting to spend stupid amounts of money? Some of the features are useless to me like follow me and all that nonsense, i just want one with a decent camera and range basically with a reasonably decent gps so it DOES come home lol. Im guessing they update firmware from time to time? Are we able to do that manually? I was also looking at the 4DRC M1 also, less range but looks decent. Settled for a cheap Snaptain for time being as I've technically never flown besides sims/racing sims and I'm decent after a few weeks tbf, ordered a rc remote compatible for the sims I play also I love drones so much already lol.

While I think it's a nice development that there are other companies that are competing with established names like DJI so that the products will improve and the price will fall, I don't think an exact copy of the drone will convince anyone to just buy the cheaper version.
Liked the review, they still haven't fixed the vignetting BUT, ditch the hat cam please, all the motion gave me a headache. Fimi & Hubsan both have a LOT of work to do if they want to be "DJi killers". Aside from all the App, flying and drone quality "issues", the other major concern that can't be minimized, is the service, support and parts availability of both Fimi & Hubsan compared to DJi products. That alone shouldn't be overlooked.
I always look forward to your reviews. You’re a little late with the Fimi so I didn’t learn anything new. Hope you can do the Zino mini pro soon. The reviews on the Zino are all over the map. Some say it’s great and lot say it’s crap.
Interesting video, and excellent as usual 👍. The disconnect to the phone was little strange, but then it's not unheard of with other manufacturers on occasion, including DJI. It could be the app or an issue with certain phones I suspect, maybe try another phone for the next test you do if any? Indeed I had a similar issue myself with the x8 until I swapped my phone for an older Lenovo V7 phablet, this strangely also reduced the lag somewhat. Absolutely no offence intended here but I do detect a slight degree of unfamiliarity with the Fimi app, I've been using the x8 se 2020 for a while now and it's a very similar app, for instance when you enter sports mode it turns off the precision ground sensor meaning it will not react to getting close to the ground as you observed while flying, I see this less as a shortcoming and more a quirk of design as with some other issues you have encountered so far. But yes definitely there are areas where improvement can be made. But for the price I consider it good value compared with say the DJI mini 2, in the UK the mini 2 is literally twice as much to buy and doesn't offer any significant advantage in terms of performance that warrants the additional cost. Keep up the good work 😉
Weird that it is half the price of a Mini 2 , in Holland the FIMI x8 is 539 euros with one battery, no bag , nothing. The DJI mini 2 Fly more combo is 574. I own the Mini 2. It's just super reliable, i can trust it. For what I have seen in this review it doesn't feel reliable at all. For 35 euros more the choice is simple I think.:-) , But if this drone is half the price in the UK I would go for this one.
Yes, when you upload a video, RUclips first makes it available at low resolution while it processes it for high resolution. At times I’ve seen it take up to 24 hours to complete the processing, but generally it’s finished in less than an hour. I always select the “unlisted” option when uploading; then later, when the hi-res version is available, I make it public. You could also schedule a video to be published at a time you choose, then won’t need to do it manually.
Dustin. Interesting video as usual. Not sure about your connection issues as I have a mini and use both android and iPhones and have never dropped a connection. You also don't seem to have a lot of "patience" with this drone. Instantly you've dismissed it once it didn't do what you wanted even though as in the orbit it was your fault. Adding a statement "it may have worked better" isn't really right. You should have retried it and then added whether it did it didn't work correctly. Keep up the good work though . Looking forward to the range test.
I have 3 of the mini's (2 x pro batteries and carrycase each) and fly them a lot, I bought them for the same price as 1 dji and they have more features than the dji that work if you know how they work. Now I have 3 drones, 3 controllers, 6 pro batteries and having a heck of a lot more fun than just with 1 drone, 1 controller, 1 battery without a carrycase for the same price...much more bang for your buck.

Interesting. I’ve had this drone for months and have not experienced any of these issues across 30 flights. I noticed Captain Drone did a multipart series on this drone as well and it was favorable. The only thing I notice is the slight vignetting on the video but that can be corrected in your settings and in post production. Otherwise this has been a solid performer for me.
@@DustinDunnill But also I’ve been flying for 8 years on iOS and have never had an app quit on me mid-flight. So yes. OS/app quality control might be a factor.
Besides the few glitches it has, it's a pretty good drone. The precision landing worked very well. Hopefully they will fix these issues in a firmware update or when they will come out with a 2nd version of it. Excellent flight test Dustin & a fantastic job of Kyan helping you out!! 😊
Good review of a mediocre drone (which is what I expected). As reviewer 'Seby Docky' (who's not done a review in 2 years) would say: "It is not amazing". Ha ha ! Most unsettling is the disconnection. I would much rather get the newly released DJI Mini SE which is cheaper than this one, and has all the good DJI flight modes. Its good that you have Keenan's good legs for demos. The recorded video isn't bad, but the FPV video is pretty lame (lag & blocky .. indicating slow transfer rate .. bps/frame rate). If you plan to do a 'range test' with this one, the copy coordinates feature might come in play, since disconnections may occur. Thanks for the review. Mahalo!
Wonder why Seby Docky stopped posting rc videos. In years 2014 till 2018 he used to be 1st person to review any quads that comes in market. His video helped me a lot buying those cheap los quads :)

My old Fimi drone would lose altitude during high speed runs. I would start with 6 feet of altitude and it would drop dangerously close to the ground after a speed run. I never trusted it.
Junk Just Buy DJI people it is so worth it in the end! After going thru so much Junk there is nothing like a DJI there Just isn't, few that are very good!

Good question. Nothing really under $1K. If you want the best for tracking humans and vehicle s I'd go for a SKYDIO 2 with the beacon accessory 🍻

Another good review but to me it's disappointing. I think slow responses are due to memory issues in the drone. DJI don't have any worries.

Based on the review I definitely am not going to buy it based on the wacky operation of the app losing connection and the poor performance of stability and the Mini being blown off the target when taking off and the poor tracking capabilities. Instead of buying the FIMI X8 Mini I am going to spend more money on a DJI Mini.
Get the mini 2 or 3 (it should be out by this November). Those are much better. You wouldn’t regret it. The regular mini is prone to motor speed issues, fly aways, and it also can’t go far, has a 2.7K camera, and has trouble in wind. The mini 2 uses occusync 2.0, has longer flight time, can go 6 miles, does a lot better in wind, shoots in 4K and has many more functions. The mini 3 is gonna be really similar

You said it's not as good as dji. Of course it matches the price of him ... Cheaper than dji...cheap goods will not be on par with expensive goods... but the fimi camera is more beautiful and the gimble is smoother than the dji
Awesome video dude and in depth. Liked and Subscribed. Surely this is the best budget drone for more serious flyers (non professional stuff) who dont want to shell out for a DJI right?
The 2022 version is out now, not much difference to this one but it has some improvements that make it more appealing. I see some ppl bitching in comments about little things that they consider unacceptable etc etc but these must be folks flying the expensive drones so I can understand their bias etc.
Forgetting all that would you say this is the one to get if you're not wanting to spend stupid amounts of money? Some of the features are useless to me like follow me and all that nonsense, i just want one with a decent camera and range basically with a reasonably decent gps so it DOES come home lol.
Im guessing they update firmware from time to time? Are we able to do that manually?
I was also looking at the 4DRC M1 also, less range but looks decent.
Settled for a cheap Snaptain for time being as I've technically never flown besides sims/racing sims and I'm decent after a few weeks tbf, ordered a rc remote compatible for the sims I play also I love drones so much already lol.
You should give it a fair shake on a not so windy day.
Does anyone here know why my remote for my x8 mini does not work? Straight out of the box it won't stay on. I've charged it to no avail..

Apparently quality control is still a real issue with Fimi. If your not willing to take that gamble I'd look elsewhere 🍻

Glad i got the mini se. 80 bucks less and a much more stable platform.
While I think it's a nice development that there are other companies that are competing with established names like DJI so that the products will improve and the price will fall, I don't think an exact copy of the drone will convince anyone to just buy the cheaper version.
Liked the review, they still haven't fixed the vignetting BUT, ditch the hat cam please, all the motion gave me a headache. Fimi & Hubsan both have a LOT of work to do if they want to be "DJi killers". Aside from all the App, flying and drone quality "issues", the other major concern that can't be minimized, is the service, support and parts availability of both Fimi & Hubsan compared to DJi products. That alone shouldn't be overlooked.
I always look forward to your reviews. You’re a little late with the Fimi so I didn’t learn anything new. Hope you can do the Zino mini pro soon. The reviews on the Zino are all over the map. Some say it’s great and lot say it’s crap.

Interesting video, and excellent as usual 👍. The disconnect to the phone was little strange, but then it's not unheard of with other manufacturers on occasion, including DJI. It could be the app or an issue with certain phones I suspect, maybe try another phone for the next test you do if any? Indeed I had a similar issue myself with the x8 until I swapped my phone for an older Lenovo V7 phablet, this strangely also reduced the lag somewhat. Absolutely no offence intended here but I do detect a slight degree of unfamiliarity with the Fimi app, I've been using the x8 se 2020 for a while now and it's a very similar app, for instance when you enter sports mode it turns off the precision ground sensor meaning it will not react to getting close to the ground as you observed while flying, I see this less as a shortcoming and more a quirk of design as with some other issues you have encountered so far. But yes definitely there are areas where improvement can be made. But for the price I consider it good value compared with say the DJI mini 2, in the UK the mini 2 is literally twice as much to buy and doesn't offer any significant advantage in terms of performance that warrants the additional cost. Keep up the good work 😉
Weird that it is half the price of a Mini 2 , in Holland the FIMI x8 is 539 euros with one battery, no bag , nothing. The DJI mini 2 Fly more combo is 574. I own the Mini 2. It's just super reliable, i can trust it. For what I have seen in this review it doesn't feel reliable at all. For 35 euros more the choice is simple I think.:-) , But if this drone is half the price in the UK I would go for this one.

Yes, when you upload a video, RUclips first makes it available at low resolution while it processes it for high resolution. At times I’ve seen it take up to 24 hours to complete the processing, but generally it’s finished in less than an hour. I always select the “unlisted” option when uploading; then later, when the hi-res version is available, I make it public. You could also schedule a video to be published at a time you choose, then won’t need to do it manually.
Dustin. Interesting video as usual. Not sure about your connection issues as I have a mini and use both android and iPhones and have never dropped a connection. You also don't seem to have a lot of "patience" with this drone. Instantly you've dismissed it once it didn't do what you wanted even though as in the orbit it was your fault. Adding a statement "it may have worked better" isn't really right. You should have retried it and then added whether it did it didn't work correctly. Keep up the good work though . Looking forward to the range test.
I have 3 of the mini's (2 x pro batteries and carrycase each) and fly them a lot, I bought them for the same price as 1 dji and they have more features than the dji that work if you know how they work. Now I have 3 drones, 3 controllers, 6 pro batteries and having a heck of a lot more fun than just with 1 drone, 1 controller, 1 battery without a carrycase for the same price...much more bang for your buck.

Interesting. I’ve had this drone for months and have not experienced any of these issues across 30 flights. I noticed Captain Drone did a multipart series on this drone as well and it was favorable. The only thing I notice is the slight vignetting on the video but that can be corrected in your settings and in post production. Otherwise this has been a solid performer for me.
Perhaps a quality control issue. I've seen it before from Fimi 🍻

Besides the few glitches it has, it's a pretty good drone. The precision landing worked very well. Hopefully they will fix these issues in a firmware update or when they will come out with a 2nd version of it. Excellent flight test Dustin & a fantastic job of Kyan helping you out!! 😊
i bought a mavic mini fly more bundle on amazon for $270. And the fimi is $309.

Good review of a mediocre drone (which is what I expected). As reviewer 'Seby Docky' (who's not done a review in 2 years) would say: "It is not amazing". Ha ha ! Most unsettling is the disconnection. I would much rather get the newly released DJI Mini SE which is cheaper than this one, and has all the good DJI flight modes. Its good that you have Keenan's good legs for demos. The recorded video isn't bad, but the FPV video is pretty lame (lag & blocky .. indicating slow transfer rate .. bps/frame rate). If you plan to do a 'range test' with this one, the copy coordinates feature might come in play, since disconnections may occur. Thanks for the review. Mahalo!
Wonder why Seby Docky stopped posting rc videos. In years 2014 till 2018 he used to be 1st person to review any quads that comes in market. His video helped me a lot buying those cheap los quads :)
@@AshishAmatya Just a guess ... but his father passed away somewhat unexpectedly, and he was very disheartened by the medical care he received. His lack of posting coincides exactly with the passing of his father. He has posted some general videos, but nothing of an RC nature.

I think you should fly it a bit more and understand the controls better before you coment.
My old Fimi drone would lose altitude during high speed runs. I would start with 6 feet of altitude and it would drop dangerously close to the ground after a speed run. I never trusted it.
