Having waited for Mat’s review, I had a test drive of both the Volvo XC40 Ultra and the Mini Countryman JCW with level 3 pack over the weekend. I will admit before I had even driven the XC40, it was my favourite because I currently have a Countryman Cooper S and was looking for something different. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the XC40, I preferred the Countryman JCW. I should mention I concur with most of what Mat said about the Countryman JCW in his review, specifically comfort where he said you should try it. I thought the Countryman was more comfortable and the protruding headrest in the Volvo a little annoying. In summary, I thought both cars were very nice. Mat described the Countryman as a little bit quirky, I would say it’s sufficiently different enough to edge the XC40.
I picked up my new Mini JCW on Monday and thought I would mention the difference between owning, albeit for 4 days, and test driving. The car has a lot of technology and while Mat complained about everything going through the infotainment system, you actually get use to it all pretty quickly. Having said that, I doubt I will be using all the technology available on the car. Whilst I generally like Mat’s reviews, he does use a lot of hyperbole for humour. For example, the infotainment system, arm rest and door handles, in my opinion, are not as bad as he described. I appreciate its opinion and it could also be that my size and build is better suited to the car. One final point I would make is that I don’t think it looks like a Suzuki Swift as is said in some of the feedback comments. In fact, I’m now seeing lots of feedback comments on certain models where it is claimed they look like Suzuki’s or Kia’s! From what I’ve seen car manufacturers from the far east region tend to copy not lead.
X1 looks ugly to me and it is more expensive when you check boxes. This Countryman JCW is fully loaded with tons of characters, is it beatiful? Not really, but it sure looks special enough and that is part of Mini's charm.
It’s a BMW X1 (U11) in a Mini skin (so many shared parts, external door handles, sunroof control cluster, engines etc). The JCW is effectively the same car as the M35i. I have an X1 and it’s a “troubled” car. I fear the Countryman will be too.
I bought a mini (BMW version, petrol), all extras, top of range. lovely looking, excellent handing and great fun. Owned it 3 years. it is actually fun, with the ENORMOUS focus there is always on Tesla, from all automtive journalists, about the placement of the speedo, and yes here you have a headsup but not standard, but on a Mini generally it has never really been a comment that the speedo is in the middle of the car.

I took delivery of my JCW Countryman about 7 weeks ago, and I honestly love it. I've done roughly 2,500 miles in it, and think once the initial shock of the sheer amount of tech wears off, most people would enjoy driving it. I do have to admit to being a bit of a BMW "fan", so I'm sure it won't suit everyone's taste.
Glad to read you’re enjoying the new JCW. I forgot to mention I like the BMW X1 M Sport but I need to convince myself to spend the extra money. I’m also unsure about hybrids like the Volvo but again I’m not ruling anything out until I test drive them all. The only annoying bit for me is that some of the salespeople are way too pushy.
It's not too big it's really great to see Mini getting bigger and better and safer ! I definitely approved just not the paint job any car and every car ever made from now on should only be painted one colour or at least make it match or look good in some way not gunmetal grey with a plain standard red roof that's disgusting
I was having some body work done to my BMW last week at the Mini dealer. While I was waiting at the dealer I took a look at a few of their cars. £47K for a Mini Countryman in the show room. Insanity.
My mum has owned 3, a '62 plate, a '64 plate and currently on a 71 or 72 plate, because it has a registration plate registered in Northern Ireland, I don't know. My brother used to own BMW 3 series, he reckons there is more space in the Countryman.
I can never understand why people are buying the "bigger " mini, they remind me of my wife gaining 60+lbs since I met her, if I want a small family SUV, there are so many better choices.
The door is designed to make people open it with two hands so they have to turn ttheir body and actually see any oncoming traffic… too many people open the door without seeing any bikes or cars or sometimes even buses!
That infotainment screen would've been much more easy to use if they added a little hand rest in front. In my car I can just barely reach the aftermarket touch screen for controlling media with my hand resting on the shifter knob, but you don't have one in these
Avoid!!! Avoid!!! Avoid!!! Looks hideous. Too many things that would annoy me (no physical heater controls, fake exhaust noise, etc). Then take into account the cost and you'd need to be certifiable to want to buy one.
20 seconds into the video and already I'm annoyed. I couldn't really see any of the "designs" in the lights. It's daylight guys and you filmed the lights from an angle. Come on!
I miss my MINI every day and thought this one would bring me back into the family. It looks good from the front, a few nice details throughout, but side and rear angles are giving me generic small SUV. Sadly the performance (always leaving you wanting a little more) is right on brand. The tech package just a little lackluster even when optioned up, again typical MINI. I've had an U25 Countryman SE reservation for over a year now, but I don't think I'll follow through. For the price, FWD biased 302hp, and size I'll just stick with my used Polestar 2 Performance. Volvo C40 and XC40 are basically the same size as well. It's a crowded segment and when you lose some of the MINIness why not just go for the option with better specs?

Glad to read you’re enjoying the new JCW. I forgot to mention I like the BMW X1 M Sport but I need to convince myself to spend the extra money. I’m also unsure about hybrids like the Volvo but again I’m not ruling anything out until I test drive them all. The only annoying bit for me is that some of the salespeople are way too pushy.
we have done a full varient of it you can check it out
Before I saw the title, I thought it was Suzuki Swift lol
i like this guy he is brutal being honest about his review
Usually the swift looks like mini and this time it is the other way round
If MINI stayed Mini there wouldn’t be a MINI. I think it’s a great size and practical. I’m loving mine
Is this car 45 to 47k? Is that right? The 302 hp version. That is a unbelievably high price if that is correct.
If you know how to use the auto on the AC, you rarely need to use any buttons
What in the suzuki swift is this ??
Looks like a hearse 😂
No that’s the Clubman.
14:19 - Thats a cute little Caravan, he's towing
Does anyone know what they're called , or the manufacturer ?
suzuki called. they want their swift front end back.
It's not too big it's really great to see Mini getting bigger and better and safer !
I definitely approved
just not the paint job any car and every car ever made from now on should only be painted one colour or at least make it match or look good in some way not gunmetal grey with a plain standard red roof that's disgusting
Awful, we need proper buttons and stop with the minimal apple experience designs.
When is the new bmw 120 review?
How did that case look like it got melted?
‘So here are 500 things I don’t like about this car’ 😂
5:50 Winner winner chicken dinner 😂😂😂
It's all cool except those stupid aircon controls. Buttons wouldn't hurt them
8:23 never thought I’d hear Matt say it looks “jizzy”
You and me both
Can you please do a review on a mini Cooper clubman jcw 😊😊
the front end looks like a Suzuki Swift
Should have shown it next to an original
Why??
Why you never did an XC 40 recharge twin review?
Was Driving the jcw and i didnt expect a mini could be soo cool and nice to drive
It cleans the rear number plate!
more like end up with water mark effect.
Why is it still called a mini when it is a mega!
I can never understand why people are buying the "bigger " mini, they remind me of my wife gaining 60+lbs since I met her, if I want a small family SUV, there are so many better choices.
I know right mins where meant to be small just as traders are meant to trade
Not to mention they have both been around the block 😂
Hope wife does not read comments 😂
@@boogboog8097 Lol, I use fake name
The door is designed to make people open it with two hands so they have to turn ttheir body and actually see any oncoming traffic… too many people open the door without seeing any bikes or cars or sometimes even buses!
Wow Swift with more power
That infotainment screen would've been much more easy to use if they added a little hand rest in front. In my car I can just barely reach the aftermarket touch screen for controlling media with my hand resting on the shifter knob, but you don't have one in these
Thats true @daylen I agree with you there we have also done a review on a number of cars we would like to get your take on them if you dont mind
Instead of Mini, they should name it Midi.
😂🤣that is just ..........
Wow first comment 💪
Yes you are
Yes Car WOW.
6:05 "and the nasty surprizes" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey Mat, looking forward to your review of the new BMW 1 series F70..!!!
Avoid!!! Avoid!!! Avoid!!! Looks hideous. Too many things that would annoy me (no physical heater controls, fake exhaust noise, etc). Then take into account the cost and you'd need to be certifiable to want to buy one.
What, no yeetage with the parcel shelf?
It looks so luxurious and sporty than the last one and with so much tech.
True @jospyfernandes
For the air con you can put it on shortcut and access it from steering wheel Mat
20 seconds into the video and already I'm annoyed. I couldn't really see any of the "designs" in the lights. It's daylight guys and you filmed the lights from an angle. Come on!
Can't be missing much as totally pointless.
Actually LIKE it 👌✨
Looks like a Kia Soul...🤔..so Mini is getting it right at last ✨👍
Just the price hey..🧐🤔
Great review ✨✨✨
Mini doesn't by any standards looks like a MINI anymore !!!
Great video!
1:16 isn't this what we had in the early 2000's?
Good video 👍👍👍
I like your jumper Matt
They should stick to porche esque front lights. This looks like a big suzuki swift
11:19 Pedestrians are not fixed objects…
What would happen if they move to the car reverse path???
Is this based on the BMW X1? Our X1's sunblind takes an age to open and close.
It's about time for a new Carwow ad... Car change Carwow 🎉
