We’re just back from Lanzarote where we hired a Mini Countryman C with pack 1 for the week. I have limited experience driving automatics, and also usuallyq drive on the left. I found this review matched our experience pretty closely. The car was responsive and light to drive, the cruise control feature was great fun, and probably helped me avoid speeding on the excellent roads. Like the reviewer I found the low “pulling away” power a bit irritating - but it was nippy and agile enough once up to speed. Plenty of room in the back seat and boot area, though the sliding forward and back seat feature leaves a four inch by four inch gap at the back of the boot space which could lead to stray bits of shopping going missing for periods - I could imagine half a dozen eggs hiding there for quite some time before being found or worse. The lack of adjustable lumbar support was, quite literally, a pain and would be a reason for us not to buy - but we’re both in our late sixties, so that might be a factor too - we have it in our own 2018 Kia Sportage, so shouldn’t really be a luxury item.
The thing doesn't even have a boot and it's presented as a feature. Yeah I'm grumpy. Even the guy gets out of camera view to not show (in relativity) how small it is. Still grumpy. Anyways.
It’s model dependent, my mom and I got one for the weekend and it had moveable headrests, if you don’t know a feature on a car, look it up and stop complaining
@mikadavies660 you can haggle on a Countryman, too. The difference is that the Countryman residuals are much better than those of the X1 so you might be £200 better off a month in the Countryman. You'll also find the seats are similar and the Mini is a better fit for that size of car. BMW only makes sense from 3 series/X3 torsen AWD and up.
Times are changing, lets face that ! This new Countryman it is outstanding ! As a regular BMW and Merc Owner ... this New Mini change my mind at all , spacious, solid and well made, materials you need to touch it because are amazing and keep a little bit of nostalgia of the brand mixed with a completely new era of electronics we need to accept. If the future and technology cause you a frustration ... just bought a vintage Mini Cooper and have it on you garage covered for a weekend drive each month, but this New Countryman really Rocks and it is really attractive for new customers like me. And one more thing it is for shure if we let the romanticism behind.. New cars are better than ever ! Security, Consuming, Environmental, confort etc. Just open your mind. Ohh by the way , really great review man !!
Interesting comments by people who have never lived with the car. We have a Countryman C Sport with a level 3 pack. It's very well made with a typical BMW fit & finish which is not surprising as its built in Leipzig, Germany in the same factory as the BMW X1 & X2. The car in 1.5l form is very peppy and responsive with typical 38 MPG on a journey. The space inside is very good, it's practical and comfortable. The touch screen is not ideal for changing the air-con by the driver on the move in fact I would go as far as saying it's dangerous to use taking your eye off of the road. The head up display is good but should include indicator lights rather than the central screen. The ride comfort is on the firmer side but not uncomfortable. The materials used are very different but I disagree with the reviewer it's of high quality not a step down. We like the styling, the paddle shifts and the steering feel no faults there. Overall we think its a hit
My Wifes always had Minis and had nearly every model, BUT she says she wont get the new ones with the screens only dashboard. Its getting hard to find cars without them now.
Really well produced video. Great picture and audio quality. Great explanation of engine, trim, "package" options and pricing. Professional. The outcome of 16 minutes of viewing? Just couldn't cope with all that information in "the circle" and cars without separate, tactile climate controls are the first not to make a short list. And then there's the price... wow! Keep up the good work.
I don’t like touch screens with all the controls on. I am fed up with car manufacturers making expensive cars full of technology I don’t want that is dangerous to use while driving.
Had my BEV Countryman S E Sport L 3 since April 9 and the only faults I can find are the front seat head restraints force your head forward and that is uncomfortable and there are still a lot of bugs in the electronics in the dash - mine refuses point blank to give me satnav voice instructions in English, German, French, Spanish or Italian it just tells me that it doesn’t recognise those languages even though they (and a whole lot more languages are available) in the settings. Even when the setting is set to English I get a message on the screen telling me that English is not available for satnav instructions! Not that it bothers me as 99% of my charging is at home but I also haven’t been able to get it to connect to the Plug and Charge system so,used my Electroverse card instead and got a discount on Octopus. Drove mine to Harrogate and back last weekend and it’s a hoot to drive on the motorway and is very comfortable and quiet at speed. it’s not too thirsty at motorway speed having averaged 3.4m/kWh overall - charging on Ionity and EVPoint chargers was no problem at max 150kW but it’s a pity that the charging curve starts to taper off that at 35-37% SOC in this day and age. 40% to 80% on a 350kW Ionity at Carlisle took 20 minutes and 22 minutes on a 150kW charger at Starbucks in Harrogate to do similar. The augmented reality display is brilliant but spoken satnav routing instructions are more useful as you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to see where to turn. The ride is great on the 19” wheels on mine - I’m used to driving air sprung Range Rovers and New Defenders and it’s as comfortable as those even on rough road surfaces. Might have been more appropriate of BMW Mini to have resurrected the old Maxi name for it though - it’s 10cms longer than my 2023 Defender 90, it cannot go quite as far off the tar as the Defender too even though mine has a “trails” mode setting in the experiences - best to limit your off road ventures to a forest drive I have found.

Fixed headrest and the infotainment screen providing driver information feels like a deal breaker. Some really odd design decisions making it impossible to defend as an option and be a realistic choice😢
BMW/Mini Have trashed the interior in new Mini EVs. The Old, BMW, "traditional" mini interior was what made recent mini's special. I will never buy a mini with this new, stripped out, cheap, junky interior design. As far as I'm concerned this is a perfect example of "scimp-flation".
What can i say about the dash......shite, i expect more from bmw but looking at the grilles on the evs my expectations are low......the screen looks like it was an afterthought....if the mini gets any bigger its a maxi, allegro, metro(Im showing my age) and loses any resemblance to the original....WHY DOES WE SELL ALL ITS COMPANIES, INDUSTRIES AND TRADEMARK TO FOREIGN INVESTERS !!!!!!
Not sure why the Union Jack tail lights are divisive, we are in the United Kingdom after all and Mini is a very British piece of car history..though i have to admit this is nothing like the mini and they seem to have lost thier way on the design...
This infotainment screen only access for important controls is utter idiocy and keeps getting worse, and that means less user friendly and more dangers.

Actually, most people who use satnav *will* use it a lot. Updates are way more frequent.....
lol every si for people I know use it
Misfire from BMW in my opinion.
A fireable misfire IMO.
Fixed headrest and the infotainment screen providing driver information feels like a deal breaker. Some really odd design decisions making it impossible to defend as an option and be a realistic choice😢
This is such a step back, in every way. It looks very cheap, very Suzuki like.
ugliest Mini in the multiverse
BMW/Mini Have trashed the interior in new Mini EVs. The Old, BMW, "traditional" mini interior was what made recent mini's special. I will never buy a mini with this new, stripped out, cheap, junky interior design. As far as I'm concerned this is a perfect example of "scimp-flation".
What can i say about the dash......shite, i expect more from bmw but looking at the grilles on the evs my expectations are low......the screen looks like it was an afterthought....if the mini gets any bigger its a maxi, allegro, metro(Im showing my age) and loses any resemblance to the original....WHY DOES WE SELL ALL ITS COMPANIES,
INDUSTRIES AND TRADEMARK TO FOREIGN INVESTERS !!!!!!
The IVI is a total disaster for the driver. What were BMW thinking?
No idea why the Tiguan was brought into the comparison when the T-Roc is clearly a closer competitor in the Countryman's class.
Раньше было лучше.
What a huge mistake in design. It looks like a Kia.
Boomermobile
Not sure why the Union Jack tail lights are divisive, we are in the United Kingdom after all and Mini is a very British piece of car history..though i have to admit this is nothing like the mini and they seem to have lost thier way on the design...
"Patriotic and divisive! Really? So the union flag is divisive is it?
British flag is patriotic for a Sino-German car maker. Hmmm… The powers of marketing. 🤦🏻♂️
US , Japan, UK, Europe all are stuck on designing electric vehicles 😂
How is a British light divisive? Grow up
This infotainment screen only access for important controls is utter idiocy and keeps getting worse, and that means less user friendly and more dangers.
The British presenter describes the Union Flag as “divisive “what have we become. That said Otherwise the car is great!
Another man who thinks the Union Jack is divisive. What is this country coming to.
The union jack lights don't work on the base model, you need to purchase level 1 pack to get them to work. I know I bought the base model
It looks like a truck.
