To me, that inmate scene was to show that regardless of what he was locked up for, he is just scared deep down and has a deep psychological side just like any other normal killer. However Michael, while also being locked up at Smith’s Grove, does not have that psychological side, he’s just pure evil. In a way, you feel bad for the inmate because you see he has a soul but there’s no way to feel bad for Michael. I think it really shows a clear difference between Michael just being a mental patient and him being the embodiment of evil

I actually enjoyed the Karen death. You want to know why? it's symbolic. Not only did they use a similar style to when he did that kill with his sister, it's a call back to how she basically said she was just like his sister and innocent. When she stands in the window, he is pulled back into the moment when he is six years old and he brutally cuts her down.
As for how he got in? I'll gesture to the entire franchise as a whole as Michael has been able to get into places he shouldn't and yet it works for him.

Here are my thoughts on the film:
The way that Laurie took a back seat for this one was rlly good. It gave way for new characters, for new stories, for old stories even to be completed, for long lost characters to return and face down the evil that is Michael Myers. The story was very great, but the execution maybe could've been a bit better. A problem I did have was with how rushed things felt and how enclosed you felt watching. Like you'll be following this small (and I mean SMALL) group of old characters which is great but they were out hunting Michael for no longer than 10-20 mins by themselves and getting a few of them killed off right away was a bit dissapointing. But that was also something I did like abt this movie was the suspense and fear u felt for characters. No one was safe and I loved it, kept me on the edge of my seat. The trailer gave of this feeling that Haddonfield would be going after Michael in LARGE numbers and he would absolutely DEMOLISH everything and everyone in his path so that was a bit of a letdown. The way he acted and the way he went around doing his thing though was really a big pro for me. The actor absolutely nails Michael as a character and the originality you feel coming from this Michael is wonderful. This is for sure the most brutal Michael we've had for a while since Rob Zombie's Halloween and I loved every single kill and every single second of it. When he was onscreen I felt the fear, the intimidation and wondering if his victims will get away or not. I am a bit mixed on the ending and how I thought it was REALLY good, it did feel quite abrupt and I am actually only talking abt the final kill spree he has at the end with that large group. Wasn't a fan of the death of Karen but I kind of understand why they had to do that.
Here are my deeper thoughts into the movie and why that, beside a few clear flaws, this I one of the more misunderstood Halloween films and one of my favourites of the franchise:
I'd say that this movie really is less abt Michael himself and why he's doing what he's doing but rather the "Curse" that he's put on the ppl of Haddonfield and how much of an impact one night in 1978 can scar a whole community for a LONG time and just like Laurie said, Michael Myers is the ESSENCE of evil. He is the Boogeyman, the monster under the bed, the monster hiding in the closet, the monster in your dreams, he is the work of the Devil himself. He is pure evil and this movie shows the fear and trauma that one man brought upon a entire community. Ppl hate the movie for the way that characters like Tommy Doile were treated and how they were "out of character" and "oh the executed story was so bad, the characters were so annoying" but u have to remember that yes they're grown up yes they're ready to face the Boogeyman again and bring him down for good, but deep down they truly (along with all of Haddonfield) FEAR Michael, they FEAR the Boogeyman and what he'll do and they'll stop at NOTHING to bring him down. Laurie said herself in the movie that if someone's afraid, that's how he wins. That's how he triumphs over them. They're ALL afraid deep down. It's also almost like Michael feeds on fear and takes advantage of that. You can't defeat the Boogeyman with brute force. The only way to truly kill Evil is by breaking it's curse. And you can see that the curse upon Haddonfield won't be broken so easily. And this brings me to the sequence with the patient which I actually loved but only because how I saw that scene.
When that patient showed up to the hospital, when the ppl saw a man from the news who is said to PROBABLY be the killer in their sight, they were AFRAID. THEY were Afraid, TOMMY was afraid. They didn't listen to Karen or Laurie, they didn't think to just stop and listen. They immediately ACTED. That's what u do when you're Afraid, you don't listen, you don't think, you act. They acted and saw that this man was probably Michael Myers. They didn't look at him, they didn't think to look into his eyes and see the FEAR that man felt. He was confused, he was AFRAID. He didn't see any other way out. So he jumped to his ultimate death. Not by Michael, not by the police department. But by the people of Haddonfield. You see, Michael came home. Not only to his literal home, but to Haddonfield. Michael came home to Haddonfield. His purpose isn't only to kill, but to corrupt. Michael Myers IS Haddonfield. He IS the people of the town. He corrupted and turned them into their own nightmare. They point fingers at Michael, they blame him. And they were right to in the beginning. But now, as they gave in to their fear and hatred, the only thing they can do is point that finger inward. This movie deep down to me, was never abt Haddonfield finally coming together to kill the evil in their town. It was abt the fear and scars left by one man that made this town crumble and fall to it's knees. It was abt one thing. Fear. Fear crushed their humanity, fear killed that patient, fear brought Haddonfield to it's knees, kneeling before the darkness that is Michael Myers. And hell, beleive it or not, I'd say that Laurie was most certainly afraid. Ready for him, yes, but still afraid. Afraid of what happened that fateful night, of what CAN happen and what can STILL happen. The way that this movie portrayed that through the "annoying" and "dumb" characters is perfect. The reason they did that is because that's exactly what would happen in real life. People would be scared, afraid and shocked when they come face to face with Michael fucking Myers. He's a legend, he's the darkness of a room, the monster lying in wait for it's prey, under the bed, inside the closet, in your dreams. The EMBODIMENT. OF. EVIL. The TRUE curse of Michael Myers is not himself, not what he does, not the stories, not the nightmares. But the people themselves. The control Michael has over them, the fear and pain and trauma he ensured would stay for a LONG time. Even when Evil dies, it will never truly go away. Just like that. Evil triumphs.
Haddonfield is Michael Myers's home. So think of it like this. His house... His rules.
Now if anybody at all made it to the end of my ADHD controlled, long paragraph, thank u for reading. Id just like to share my point of view abt why this movie is one of my favourite of the franchise and why I think it was quite misunderstood among both fans and critics. Everything I explained is just the way I see things and I hope to maybe turn some thumbs right back up to this movie for those who just hate it. And if I didn't change your mind, thank u for reading anyway and I hope u now see this movie for what I truly think it was trying to say. That even when Michael isn't onscreen, he is still there. In every frame. He's the beast, the monster in the dark lying in wait, ready to pounce and snatch it's pray.

My personal take on why Michael didn't fight back on getting captured the first time is because this movie really hammers the point of him being the embodiment of evil and not in a metaphorical sense up to that point he had only killed four people so he wasn't as strong as he was in the future
P.s the reason that Karen died in the way she did and the way that it was edited is because it was mirroring the way Michael killed his sister

I thought this film was VERY well done. While I do understand that some people criticizing this film have said that some of the action hero-like lines and over-the-top mannerisms (especially the overdone “evil dies tonight” line) kind of took them out of the experience of the film in a sense, I was able to look past it, as I feel the positives of the film far outweighed the negatives. I did feel like Tommy was underutilized, and I actually think it would’ve been great if they’d been able to get Paul Rudd to play the character (I prefer his portrayal of an adult Tommy from Halloween 6, especially the theatrical cut).
While a fair number of characters make some pretty bad decisions that sometimes got them killed, this didn’t ruin the film for me. Honestly, a lot of those scenes, including the scene with Michael on the car and the characters’ poor handling of firearms, sold the movie to a degree for me, as it showed everyday regular people with little or no training (barring maybe some time at a range with stationary targets) straight up panicking in an extreme life-or-death traumatic situation and acting in ways that a fair number of people probably would act via quick and poor decisions and bad shooting. The writing and directing really landed the sense of fear and panic in most of the characters.
I thought there was a very good balance between scary atmosphere and high level gore. There were very tense moments, and the scares landed very well (and at no point did I feel like there was too much humor inserted into the movie). The kills, while very violent and often gory, we’re never a ridiculous level of over-the-top that might have taken away from this type of film, and they were very impactful in ways that, at least in my opinion, usually made you feel bad for a good number of the people who got killed, including the old couple, the couple living in the Myers house, the doctor in the car (he tried; valiant effort), and Karen (not to mention the kid killed offscreen, who might have been an asshole, but was still just a kid). And I agree with you that I even felt for Cameron during his death; the film did a good job of making you like this character despite him making a shitty decision in the previous film-he largely redeemed himself, which made it sting a bit when he got killed, which is a mark of a good horror film.

This is exactly how i feel, another interesting thought. Halloween 2018, felt more like classic carpenter Halloween Myers if that makes sense, he’s just a mentally ill serial killer.

Yeah this is pretty much how I felt. The original Halloween is my favorite movie of all time. I thought the 2018 one was just okay. I thought it had some weird story decisions, like the whole thing with Dr. Sartain. But I was really surprised how much I ended up enjoying this one. Maybe it's because I'm a huge fan of the series and this one had a lot of fan service, but overall I enjoyed it for all the reasons you listed. It did feel pretty tense while sitting in the theater watching it. So I was very surprised to see all the negative opinions of the film online this weekend. I'm not sure what people are looking for or expecting from a Halloween movie.

I love it!
I only say remake because it's just called Halloween but we know it's just a 40 year sequel to the first movie.

I think the divide is between people who casually watch horror and just know of the icon. The critical assessment I've seen were very flawed.
Myers kills aren't creative just brutal well they're meant to be that way they've always been that way he kills to kill not like Freddy doing it out of pleasure.
The tone is too serious, well no shit this is close to reality when we had a Myers the town would have rioted to kill him and tons of misinformation spreader perfect example slender man killings of 2014.
Movie is a must watch true to the story ad gritty good tone makes no sense how this movie follows a formula close to og Texas chainsaw but people say it's too serious and also hate the comedy like pick your hatered

  • @Awesum-James
    @Awesum-James 2 года назад +5

    Major Pros:
    - The new idea on Michael's motives. Michael's motives were always family driven (or cult driven), which seemed odd considering the lines about his eyes from Loomis in the first movie. The first movie always gave the idea that Michael killed as a fascination and curiosity in a way, and the "mind of a 6-year-old" idea works well for the way he tilts his head in admiration of his kills, the odd and sometimes ridiculous body placements, etc.
    - Showcasing the effects on the whole town, and how fear and paranoia can turn people real fast was an interesting idea played well for the most part in this film.
    - Some characters were awesome and fun to watch. Cameron, both Johns, and a couple of others really stood out while on screen.
    - The kills, and that includes every kill. This is the middle of a trilogy, Michael needed to kill off some legacy or mainstay characters in the middle movie. He obviously can't kill certain characters until the 3rd movie (ex/ Laurie, the sheriff). But the killing of Karen fit so well for the ending to the middle movie. I do dislike that it wasn't a definitive kill since I feel many of the kills and the gore was fantastic (most likely to leaving it open for her survival). But I do feel her death and knowing Michael survived will be the catalyst for Laurie to sacrifice herself to kill him (which I predict will happen). Laurie seems too calculated and smart to die in a sacrificial or dumb way, but the heartbreak of her daughter dying may drive a storyline possibility for her death that make sense.
    Cons:
    - Some character deaths felt odd. Like the 3rd kid who died when the two girls who were smart enough to pull an elaborate prank to steal all the John's candy. Like, they sat on swings like idiots while their friend was killed, never questioning what happened to him, never hearing a suspicious noise. They even described Michael as creepy and still sat there. Felt really dumb for those characters. Same scene had the dumb parts in the attacked on the doctor/nurse couple, Marion and Lindsey. The nurse not firing during all that time made no sense, nor did Marion firing as much as she did. Same can be said for Lindsey's effects when she was found, even though it seemed like Michael never found her. I feel like their had to have been a scene where Michael threw her into the shallow water or something. It all felt odd.
    - The hospital scene. I get the message, and I get why it exists in the film. And I don't think it did anything wrong. It was meant to be disturbing and uncomfortable for viewers, and portray the town negatively for a reason. From the second I saw the news mention the two escapees, show the first image, but the characters turn away before the image of Michael popped up, making Michael's face blurred to the viewers (which was a big sign the characters didn't see it), I already knew what was coming. It was a difficult scene to sit through, especially since we already had brutal, uncomfortable deaths for some other characters. When the guy is asking for help, and the mob pursues him, it's just difficult to watch. When it drove him to kill himself or be brutally murdered by the mob, at that point, I had said out loud I hope Michael kills them all. The killer with no remorse who had two-three uncomfortable kill scenes in the movie already becomes an anti-hero of sorts where I routed for him to kill them. You can't have it both ways, no matter how hard you try. Turning your characters into intolerable and unlikable people ruins your killer being seen as a dark and scary killer, because they become the "hero" of the film in a way. Look at all other horror franchises, most have delved into this cliche. Hell, Halloween did with the RZ films. I did not like a single human character in those films except Annie and Danny Trejo's character. Everyone else I wanted to watch Michael kill, especial in RZ's H2. Let's just say, that last mob killed, I was happy to watch Tommy and the mob get their just desserts, and I don't think that was the intention of the film.

Referring to him being overwhelmed in the first “group mob” scene and him defeating the next two mobs, they made multiple references to the fact that the more kills or more pandemonium going on the stronger his evil becomes, they said that a few times in the last act; so in the beginning 1978, he probably could easily get folded because he wasn’t strong enough, also he got folded by Jamie Lee by a hanger in that first film and got up on a delay, so it would make sense that he can be knocked out or disabled enough to go to jail or prison. With the eluding to him getting strong throughout the movie, it would make sense more “horror movie” sense that he can survive mobs. Also, it’s said through multiples show, movies, anime’s, etc, that if u want to defeat a ground of people u gotta take someone or two out to break their will. 9 outta 10 people see someone get stabbed up or knocked out , their first reaction is to freak out, lol, then if they don’t run they next asf 🏃🏽‍♀️

Literally watched it last night. I love how they went back to the original movie and tried to tied up. Though wish Laurie had more action scenes. Overall the movie was cool, hands down Michael’s best killing spree out of all the movies. Do wish they would have kept Michael and Laurie being siblings, can’t wait for the next movie.

    I actually loved the movie.
There were a couple things I didn't like, but I enjoyed it more than Halloween(2018).
Both are good, but Kills not only picked up faster, it also answered questions I had with 2018.

The only parts of the movie I didn't like as much were the flashbacks.
I enjoyed the flashbacks themselves, but they didn't always make it clear when they were happening(mainly with the first one).
Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention, but all the way up until I saw Dr. Lumous I thought they were just chasing a copycat.
I guess I also found it a bit silly that Michael somehow just barely dodged every bullet while walking down the stairs(I guess it was just bad aim, but Michael had no reaction).

I loved that the pacing was so radically different and the styling felt both vintage and fresh at the same time. In a standard horror movie, it would have ended with Karen staring out the window and maybe Michael in the distance. We've seen it end so many times where it's eyes popping open and the killer isn't dead! That's what I was expecting, so it was very entertaining to be wrong.

Tommy doesn't necessarily need to be likable because he's a legacy character. The film's about Michael as a force of nature turning the townspeople into becoming killers themselves. Tommy falls into that mob mentality. I loved how Hall portrayed him.
