Hi Emily first time watching your program and learning how to cook. Wife passed away 7 years ago and miss her cooking. She made cornedbeef the Italian way. Your way (first time ever watching seems easy) I really like and enjoy your slow way of demonstrating how to make cornedbeef the Porto Rican way and your voice is calming and so friendly. I will watch more of your videos and learn to cook better. At 63 years old ... it's never late to learn. Thank you SO MUCH for your RUclips channel 😍 (and YES ... subscribed ... and look forward to support)
How beautiful it is to see our staple shown on video, what we grew up eating times were rough but great memories for sure. I just made some today great recipe and Job!
I made this today … I am not Boriqua but I have had plenty of friends. So I did add the potato today, but I made them in my air fryer. I used 2 cans and tomato 🍅 paste … and I found it salty though I didn’t add any salt. It was so good though! My family usually does it dry … this way was way easier to eat with rice 🍚 so thank you for sharing your tradition.
Thank you for sharing. I do add French fries and olives. Because that's the way I. Grew up eating it. Thank you for bring it back so many memories. Loved it❤❤❤❤
Authentic is better, so great job. I had no idea what sofrito was so I went to your profile to see if you had a recipe but only found videos where you included it. Then I did a general RUclips search and found "Puerto Rican Sofrito Recipe". He mentioned that there are many variations, now I am curious as to what yours is. RUclips showed your video to me, I was not looking for corned beef recipes, so glad I watched, new subscriber now 😄🙃🙂
I am finally getting back into my Puerto Rican roots after years of exploring other cuisines. I LOVE making this stew with plantains in it in place of fries. I just make fried plantains and cut them up a bit, then toss them in! So good!!
I never saw it w French fries, but I think I’m just gonna do the corn beef alone cause of all the starch that turns into sugar. And some platano maduro for sure ☺️
I've never been a fan of eating the olive itself but I find the food doesn't taste right if I didn't make sure to add them, so I just pick them out when I eat the food. My mom adds extra olives to hers, so it works out :V I'm gonna try making this for the first time today, my friend's mom used to make it all the time but she's been gone for a number of years now. Hopefully this white boy can pull it off, but I had no trouble making her rice and beans when she taught me.
I wouldn’t say cute potatoes I think that’s what you said but my parents use whatever was at hand fries cut potatoes bag of plain chips heck sometimes NO potatoes was always good though! Oh!! Try put scrambled eggs yum!!
I'm not Latina, but I grew up in a few foster homes with Puerto Rican people and I love ALL THE FOOD! Thank you for sharing.
French fries is the way to go. I love this dish, simple but delicious 😋

One thing Puerto Ricans and Filipinos have in common is their love for Corned Beef
Además de ser colonizados por la Corona
And Jamaicans Im Puerto Rican and Jamaican they call it bully beef tho
@@jerseyboi9542 I need to try that for sure
@@phil_matic it’s pretty much the same just add onions and what ever peppers you like commonly serve with rice or dumplings 🥟
Love of canned corned is standard throughout the Caribbean islands, not just PR. We all have a variety of ways that we season and make it.
I looooove her commentary
French fry is the way to go !!! thank you love your way to cook the cornbeef that’s the original 👏🏼 👏🏼

Every time my mom made this growing up she always did it with potatoes and corn.
I don't do the French fries but I add cubed potatoes. I like lots of potatoes and olives in my corned beef :)
Fries a must
My grandma made with fries. My mom added sweet corn only. She also makes pickled red onions on the side and fry tostones.
I agree with you, specially the the piece that holds the key breaks off, omg
I am from Ciales PR, we make the dish with fried cubed potatoes and or maduros cubed and fried as well, sweet corn is a must!😋

I never saw it w French fries, but I think I’m just gonna do the corn beef alone cause of all the starch that turns into sugar. And some platano maduro for sure ☺️
Love the video, but I grew up using cube potatoes, old school New york style, but French fries definitely sounds good too.
YUM :)
French fries is a must
But you made it exactly how I would make it. I'm from st. Thomas usvi and we cook the same way
I add either black raisins or maduros to mine.
once the corned beef marinates in the sauce a few hours or the next day it tastes so different in an amazing way.
AGREED
Thank you
It's a good way to open the can if you don't have a can opener

Wondering where the sauteed onions and bell peppers are in this dish
Some cultures don't cook it that way.
I love ur voice and la corn beef tu sabe I love to eat that
Its almost the same way my mom used to make it. And she used to call it the poor man's dinner all the time.
I agree find a different way to can them make it easier for people with arthritis and issues with their fingers especially the elderly
Similar to chili fries. Tfs
I do it both ways with french fries and cubed potatoes. I also add peppers and onions. It's my favorite dish 😋 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷 thanks for sharing
My friend serves it over white rice
They really do need to change the can lmao...I never added to much to my corned beef, but damn that looked good lol....keep up the great work melon

Can I make corned beef without sofrito yes or no

Why do you add potatoes and corn to the corn beef when you are going to serve it with rice? How about serving the avocado with the rice?
