I think it's Yoyoka's distinctive groove that attracts me most. And I believe her groove comes from her pure love of music. There may be some younger kids whose drumming technique is superb, but nobody can express such a deep emotion toward music like Yoyoka imo.

This one is super smooth, YOYOKA keeping the groove solid in the background with subtle little accents. Nine Gates is much more YOYOKA forward. I never tire of saying what a pro she is in the studio, on stage, on television etc. yet as many of you have watched any live streams or calls on Patreon or in person will know, she can be ridiculous!
And of course, the combination of YOYOKA, drums and Aki's micing and setup is delicious!

Love the groove. Yoyoka's playing is so tasteful! Beautiful patterns and very supportive of all the soloists. She is incredibly fast at learning the styles and subtleties of high level playing.

This is fantastic yet again. It's great to see you as "just one of the boys" as far as your technique is concerned, and the fact that its clear that very serious and highly skilled and established musicians accept you without any hesitation. I really do hope you get many many more great gigs like this, as well as lots of stage work.

My preference in music is rock over jazz, but I can appreciate both. To me, it seems jazz requires more skills than rock , which Yoyo excels at both. She also appears to be reading music during this session, which is yet another leap forward. At the age of 13, many legends had yet to start playing their instruments. She is already a next level Pro, but having music attached to her (song writing) should be the ultimate goal.
If she’s reading, there’s no obstacles left for anything involving a trap set.
I just hope learning to read music won't stop the Yoyoka magic that comes from her intuitive, embodied, dancing-jellyfish play style.
@@ThePallidor Someone who learned to play by ear first, then added reading music should not loose the first ability because they learned another.

Yoyoka adds another skill to her tool chest, sight reading, I think this is the first time I've seen her do this, but as usual she excels at it (wonder if she picked that up in her last school in Oakland?).
I asked her about this after the recording sessions (she posted a short video) on a zoom call. I asked if she could read music (drum charts) well enough to use them quickly, and she said not yet. Need to confirm this next call as many are wondering.
@@Rob-Yule Based on her progression over the years in her drumming skills, I'd venture a guess that she's probably pretty close to that goal.

Deer Yoyoka, imagine you have to go to two differens places. One at classic style and second sport style. You would not to be dress classic at sport style. So music is the same. Rock and jazz are two differents style of music. I wish you to listen jazz music style and make one with a jazz drummer. You can not imagine how easy and fast it is to learn and play jazz music. Be in the jazz mood !! Go with the flow of jazz drumming.😁✌️
