Great work as always. Recording a 7-song-album in one day should be "illegal" in my eyes. The social tunecore link isn't working for me. Maybe the linking problem is from my side.
The most impressive thing to me is that she recorded this album only 3-4 months after she was really introduced to jazz in her school in Oakland. And recorded it in one day. With top jazz musicians like Ben Torres and Hristo Vitchev. The whole album is impressive. And available on streaming services. Can't wait to see a video of Yoyoka playing Traces. And after recording the album Hristo Vitchev wrote this: "What a wonderful and inspiring session we had this past weekend recording some absolutely stunning music by bassist Noriyuki (Ken) Okada and featuring my dear friend and Grammy Award-Winning saxophonist Benny Torres and the absolutely one of a kind wunderkind and child prodigy drummer from Japan - Yoyoka. You should keep an eye on her as I truly believe in as little as 5 years or so she might be one of the world’s great drummers." I'm sorry, but I disagree. We won't have to wait that long.
*ASTONSIHING* Yoyoka demonstrating yet again that she can play with any band and in any studio session and with any world-class musician and completely 100% fit in. And yet she is still only 13 years old! Incredible.
You look so comfortable in the studio, lke you are home. I love your effortless creation of groove, then you explode to dazzle the music with your fireworks. Jazz is REALLY bringing out an incredible feel and swing in your drumming. Not sure I've ever heard you playing this clean and precise before. Glad to see you spreading your wings like this.
It’s your versatility that never fails to amaze Yoyo. You will never be short for work in the coming years that’s for certain. All round brilliant tune. Pat 🏴
Finally, the trouble with nailing records so perfectly is we seldom get to see the magic with a suitable set of musicians. More collabs with people that can push you further is the way to go.
I’ve been saying for a while now that the drummer to compare her to is not John Bonham but Steve Gadd. What I didn’t take into account is that she might actually catch up to him in her teens. She’s one of my favorite drummers now.
I am so impressed it made me emotional. I am so proud of how good you have become on drums. playing this kind of progressive Jazz at such a high level wow. this song reminded me of a band I listened to in the 70's called ( Return To Forever ) also an artist called AL Di Meola.
At last! Yoyoka, you have been a proficient drummer for many years now. Which is amazing for someone being only 13. But now I get a feeling that something is happening. A transition from being a scary good drummer to being someone that is a part of the music scene. Hope that my feelings are correct.
Big up to Ben & Max Torres, and Daichi Nogawa. Pixel wrangling in low-light studios ain't easy. Turned out nicely, and captured then essence of the vibe.
Not only you're a very good drummer but you really like music that you accept to play jazz and it's sounds good 😊 !! Keep having fun and live music !!! Thank you Yoyoka !!! Dan T. from Mirabel Quebec, Canada 👃❤✌
4 years ago when my little granddaughter and I first started watching Yoyoka play we named her little drum dancer.😊 I guess now we need to change it to not so little drum dancer. 😂
Usually studio musicians are by far high quality musicians, for example Jimmy Page who was very sought after at the age of 15. And Yoyoka is only 13 years old, one word, AMAZING.
Been saying for a while she has a big future in studio work. She can do concerts too, of course, but her ability to put the sizzle in the steak, that sparkling dash of ineffable Yoyoka magic that just makes songs pop more, is a hot commodity for studio work. Live work is more about vibing with the audience, which I feel she is just starting with as she finally opens up to having fun on stage and American-style audience interaction.
Super nicely done... you started a lil cold the fist half of the song but then managed to let go and start floating with the bass and the guitar solo.... that cymbals work was flawless///// You really Impressed Me and your margin to get better with players with this talent has a lot of road ahead... keep at it YOYOKA, its been some time i didn't see you smiling and having so much fun again, and seeing you enjoying like this was beautiful to experience.
I find myself constantly amazed with each video these past few weeks. Her work in Japan with Ai Furusama and with other simply stellar musicians and this work In February with this jazz project marks yet another high water mark for the Hokkaido Hammer 🔨.
I remember when I first stumbled across Yoyoka some years back, speculating that she had already mastered rock drumming and would end up playing jazz. Or metal. Honestly she could do both. Anyway, I'm very happy and excited that she has recorded an entire jazz album! Can't wait to hear the rest. Can't wait to hear any possible future work with Ai too.
“Nine Gates” is a term used in a game of Mahjong, which is similar to the “royal flush” in poker. Notice how tastefully the thumbnail image is designed here. The four borders surrounding “Nine Gates” represent Mahjong tiles in play!! Nice artwork! I love it!
She uses that little invention quite a lot and I think she is rather fond of it. It's in Sparkling. So she worked it in and looked rather pleased with herself. As she should be.
... because it's called fusion/ jazz-rock or rock-jazz. it's popularity rose with its invention in the 70s, and some would center this around a drummer called Tony Williams.
I wouldn't want to box her in, given her amazing talent! But I think jazz/fusion is now her wheelhouse, especially for studio/session gigs. I can see her reaching Steve Gadd-session status, and that's not a bad thing at all, considering the monumental gigs he's had over the years.
Hey Yoyoka, thank you for posting this. WOW! Great song and great performance by the group. Really impressive. How did you get this gig or is it your gig that you assembled the musicians for? Thanks again. Pete St. John Fresno, CA

Time to forget about her age. Musically speaking, she's there. Straight up. Just a phenomenal drummer. Period.
Absolutely agree!
We are witnessing HISTORY in the making. Embrace. Happy...Happy...Happy.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
this is what I have been waiting for....pure magic...by everyone!
Pocket, Precision and Power. YOYOKA has em all
Great stuff guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Has a Spyro Gyra feel....Yoyoka just killing it with older, very accomplished players!!! You go girl
I tuned in for Yoyoka, but everyone is smokin’ here. Well done!
I am so proud of you Yoyoka as are all of your fans . I wish you and your family only the best and please stay safe .😊

This is so beyond satisfying! I love every second of this song! So Amazing that you never stop improving! Keep shining YOYOKA! ❤
Yoyoka your versatility is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. 🐰🥁🐰🥁🐰
Yoyoka gives a distinctive flavor to this fast jazz fusion tune, and I love it. Looks like Yoyoka’s drum skills keep skyrocketing!! 🔥🔥🔥

that is some serious swinging rhythm chops right there.. bass and drums are on the money.. just listen when they bring up the solo guitar part.
This is really next-level playing, Yo! Very solid jazz chops. I’m impressed, and looking forward to more!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I’ve been saying for a while now that the drummer to compare her to is not John Bonham but Steve Gadd. What I didn’t take into account is that she might actually catch up to him in her teens. She’s one of my favorite drummers now.
Thank you! Someone finally said this! No shade to Bonham by any means, but Gadd is one of the best drummers ever to pick up sticks.
I bet that band was happy to have met you, Yoyoka. What a fantastic contribution you make to their music, making it your own at the same time.
I am so impressed it made me emotional. I am so proud of how good you have become on drums. playing this kind of progressive Jazz at such a high level wow. this song reminded me of a band I listened to in the 70's called ( Return To Forever ) also an artist called AL Di Meola.
Wow! Yes! I've been waiting to see you in this type of musical situation. Great job! Keep up the good work!

I am in tears for this performance, absolutely mesmerizing.
The smiles from the guys at the end says it all. Yoyoka gives joy. Fantastic.
Great to see Yoyoka playing with virtuoso guitarists like Hristo Vitchev and Grammy winners like Ken Torres!
Is there nowhere left for her to conquer? Bravo Yoyoka! Bravo to the rest of the group too. Very professional. Well done.

This is truly great to hear and see, on multiple levels.
Love those "nailed it" smiles at the end! Very fun to watch.
Drumming is a dance that makes a sound rather than a form. The way that her arms and feet move, looks like a dance to me.
4 years ago when my little granddaughter and I first started watching Yoyoka play we named her little drum dancer.😊 I guess now we need to change it to not so little drum dancer. 😂
That was a very cool jam, I loved it. Yoyoka you are EXCELLENT! And of course the other musicians were all excellent.
How nice of Yoyoka to give these young men some well-deserved publicity.
They need bigger venues when Yoyo is on board.😀
A seven song album like this recorded in one day? Wow!!!
ロックだとかジャズだとかジャンル分けに意味を持たないと感じさせてくれる最近の Yoyokaサウンドです。
Well said!
