You've come so far Yoyoka , we're all so proud of you . Keep up the great work and I've no doubt you'll achieve your dreams.😊❤
It always amazes me how Yoyoka respects the music and her fellow members in the band. She maintains a solid sense of rhythm throughout, executing her fabulous drum fills only when appropriate. She never overplays. She’s a true professional.
To add something about some comments...
When Yoyoka was only about 9 year old, she was very clear. Even back then, and that young. She doesn't want to be an Idol (for those who don't know, just google "Japan idol"). She was very determined about that.
And she doesn't want to twirl a drumstick, or do any other gimmicks. She wants to be a serious musician, to be part of the band. And not to take all of the attention.
She also talked about other countries, the school system in Finland, etc...
Very mature things from a 9 year old. Listening all that I realized, back then, that she is much more than just a great drummer.
Of course, like always, there will be jerks. So someone asked her what she thinks about Guantanamo Bay. Luckily she didn't know the answer.
I only hope she will stay the same in the future. That is my greatest fear.
Someone actually asked Yoyoka that question. In my opinion calling them a jerk is putting it mildly.🤦♂️thanks for sharing this. 😊
Thanks for another quality track, again different from the others! Loved that drum sequence at 3:50. Congratulations also on passing the 130K subscriber mark, at last! Here's hoping that you get new subscribers from the Jazz loving community!
Damn, that’s gotta be a difficult beat to nail down, especially for five minutes. Yoyoka makes it look effortless as usual🥁
I agree. That's at the level Vinnie Col. might create. Fiendish use of ghost notes and every snare strike sounding just a little different. Love it. Thanks Yoyoka and the band.
A true musician can play it all. We know she can bang out rock with the best of them (better, really), but it's these pieces that will really define her depth. She was a SOLID anchor for this quartet. Artists seek out session musicians of this caliber, both for studio and live shows. She will have work for the rest of her life.
Beautiful piece, I love the fact that you are now sight-reading drum charts, shows how committed you are to learning your craft, great job!
I think you're using the term "sight-reading" wrong here. Sight-reading refers to playing a piece based on the sheet music without having seen or played the piece before. I think Yoyoka has rehearsed these pieces already and is using the sheet music for reference.
That said, I agree it's a beautiful piece 🙂
I really liked this piece. Yoyo you fit so seamlessly into this genre of music, you are a credit to yourself and the members of this quality band. I’m so pleased for you. Pat 🏴
I'm running out of superlatives. This music makes me feel better. Energetic and glad to be alive. I want to listen to more and more of this. I want to buy this music to support this project. I continue to be amazed at Yoyoka's talent and skill and spirit. The highest compliment a Kentuckian can give: She was raised right. That speaks to her character and the family who loves and supports her. A great big thank you to all involved.
She picked up Jazz really fast!
Loving the Ken Okada Group and of course, Yoyoka shines as always! Or should I say "sparkles"?
Really enjoying these tunes, great playing all around, exciting to see Yoyoka in a studio session. Also want to single out Hristo Vitchev's playing and his guitar tone is exquisite! (reminds me of Allan Holdsworth) =D
We need a higher phrase than child prodigy. Yoyoka surprises with every performance!
Yoyoka never ceases to impress with the quality, precision and sensitivity that can bring to this kind of music. And I'm not even talking about the complexity of the piece of music which plays with Yoyoka-like ease.
DAM THAT'S A REAL TRICKY GROVE SHES DOING, CANT WAIT TO SEE WAVES BREAK DOWN ON THIS ONE, GREAT NUMBER GUYS, THE PROF HAVING A BALL, AND READING THE SCORE .
many thanks shes a cool young lady.
thanks again
Shades of "Return to Forever."
So very good!
Reminds me Vulcan world a bit
You go Yoyoka, I will always watch you play.
The very best thing I like about music is when the musicien make one with is instrument. That's what I like with this band !!! 🙏✌❤ ! Dan from Mirabel, Québec, Canada.
Brilliant. There's perfect synergy amongst the instrumentalists. And as always, Yoyoka plays with perfection.
I think this is the best of all the sessions. They're all at the top of their game on this one.
Agreed. This was my favorite
Yoyoka just using the magic that comes from within her kit
Love your work little sister! I remember a time when you couldn't read sheet music! Well done you!!!!!

This one shows us you very fine skill in a track full of finess and subtlties. Beautiful work!
That was VERY GOOD!!! You Rock and You Jazz!!!
Another sublime tune from this rock-solid quartet!
Words aren't enough. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.😊
Looking forward with much anticipation. 😊
It's such a joy to watch people with that way of making the awesome things they do look easy! And reading sheet music these days, I see - Bravo, Yoyoka!
This is my favorite from the album so far.
Amazing
Truly world-class all around.
Yoyoka has talent and that's what matters. There's always some pervert in the comments wanting her to look like those anime characters for adults saying that this way she will have more views and subscribers. I'm Japanese and I have a relative who worked in the recording industry and others who work in the entertainment business in Japan, so I know the dark side of these businesses. I hope Yoyoka's parents are careful with her
👍
I do agree.
Make that two.👍
I miss great modern jazz! This was awesome
Hope you've watched the San Jose Jazz at the Break room gig? This number was featured near the end of near 2hr set. YOYOKA has featured only a digest of it on this, her channel.

This was incredible. That being said, you don't look like you're having fun the way you do when you're playing rock music. I would hate for you to play without getting enjoyment out of it.

Wait,
She went from not sight reading to sight reading This? In how long?
These two hills were the last to climb: polyrhythmic jazz and sight reading. There aren’t any left. I don’t know if she could read Zappa’s Black Page but that’s about it.
She’s turned into the Linda Ronstadt of drumming: handling multiple styles while sounding native in all of them.
She’s thirteen. I’d be impressed if she were forty-five, but she’s thirteen.
I don’t think there has ever been a drummer this advanced at thirteen. I mean in human history.
Obrigado.

This piece, and maybe on the whole, would work better in a trio setting, which could give space and more freedom to the remaining instruments.
Such complex dynamic melody beats and timing. Fantastic! Go Yoyoka!
