Deftones - Digital Bath Reaction Video
There are people who like deftones and those that are wrong
Here, have this like. I made it specially for you.
I like Anthony Fantano, he turns me on to music I would never have encountered otherwise. But deep down I don't respect him, because he doesn't like the Deftones. I just can't accept it.
@@Liveeruptsuj He's really inconsistent with his ratings. He has trashed so many good albums, I don't really think of him as a legit music critic.
Even Gore?
@@420graffin I liked Gore a lot, even if it did tread water a bit.
This song changed music for me forever. As a young metal head, I had no idea heavy music could be so moody and beautiful. I would put it in the running for “best song of all time.”
Man I do agree. White pony changed me, not even anima touched me the way Deftones did. It changed my world view.
👌👌👌👌
@@BShib84 what is "anima"?
@@athmaid Sorry, I meant the Tool album Aenima, think it autocorrected me.
@@BShib84 aaah ok, no worries!
Chino's voice is in a class by itself. So ethereal and so harsh, his voice is just art.
@Thor Horn ok.
I like to think of it like "What if that guy, from The Smashing Pumpkins, didn't sound so whiny?"
Love his voice all around, super emotive and creative. When he hits that high on the Feel Like More I get goosebumps
And like art, he was super inconsistent. That day in the studio, with the right combination of drugs and the right around engineer, he sounded amazing.
It hits my soul like Jim morrison its on another level.
This band has been the soundtrack to my life.
for me too. And tell your brother that this is the best groove he has ever written ;)
Same. I'm only 21 but I'm interested to know the different variety of ages this band connects to as it relates to life times
Was just telling my girlfriend same thing-
Same. I'm only 23. I started listening to deftones like 5 years ago but it feels like I've been listening to them my entire life. Probably partly because of the nostalgia of their early albums
For context I'm 33. Had heard them a few times but really got into them when White Pony came out. You just can't go wrong with these guys.
Knife Party, my friend. Deftones Knife Party.
Yes knife party. One of their best!
I mean, they have so many bests. But digital bath and knife party are two or my all time favourites from any band ever
Even the acoustic version of knife prty is beautiful and powerful
My favorite song of theirs. But wasn't Party, was spelled Prty on the album
@@Huskinmatt The version from their Hawaii dvd where they played it on the beach.
No.. Entombed by deftones should be checked out.
20 years later and this song still gives me chills
OMG 20 years? How come it feels like I was crusing around with this blasting (after it just came out) yesterday?
I still remember listening to this song for the first time, driving down a rainy highway at midnight. One of the best musical memories I have.
Every. Single. Time.
Agreed! And Knife Party too... This whole album has always just blown my mind.
Same
Didn't even read the title; saw White Pony cover and clicked.
AMAZING ALBUM
Yessss
the biggest same I've ever samed
Did you like the remix new release ?
@@606808909 yes. Not as good as the originals per se, but still a good listen.
“Rosemary” by the band Deftones.
You will MOST CERTAINLY love it. Spacey. Epic. Beautiful.
I hope he do this one, I think he will love it
Yeah Rosemary is just fucking epic
“Ti-ime...SHIFT”
I concur!!!
Hard agree
If you havnt done passenger, you should.
Came here to say just that. If he likes the Deftones vibe and Maynard then Passenger is a great combo!
Yeah Maynard sings a bit on Passenger.
Also came here to say this. Great minds think alike, friends!
Yeah I would love to see you make a video on passenger. I suggested it as soon as I saw you enjoying tool a lot. Can’t wait :)
One more for this
What makes Deftones so interesting is every member likes different music. The singer is into New Wave like Depeche Mode and The Cure. The guitar player is into metal, and rap. The keyboard player likes techno...etc.
Somehow, they make it all work! That's what makes them so unique. I think the more you dig into the Deftones catalog, the more impressed you will be.
The fact that this song goes right into "Elite" on the album is killer.
Yes the contrast to show anyone that feels its heavy enough
I’m 40 and Deftones were my first band I fell in love with. My #1 always
I'm 33, and SAME.
I'm 33 and same. Have been listening since 2001, Change was my first song and I listened to it 3-4x a day.
How do you like Ohms?
@@eliasmontoya7515 mehh
I got ao much shit for liking them hahaha
Cherry Waves is a great “spacey” song with a great subtle bass line. Probably my favorite Deftones song.
yea
Deftones feat. Maynard James Keenan "passenger"
FYI for future reactions to the Deftones the line up of the band currently is:
Chino Moreno - lead vocals (1988-present); guitars (1999-present)
Stephen Carpenter - guitars (1988-present)
Abe Cunningham - drums (1988-1990, 1993-present)
Frank Delgado - keyboards, turntables, samples (touring member 1997-1998, official 1999-present)
Sergio Vega - bass, backing vocals (touring member 1998, official 2009-present)
with
Chi Cheng - bass, backing vocals (1990-2008; died 2013)
Their most acclaimed album "White Pony" (which this song is featured on) was released in 2000 and is amazing front to back.
I imagine most of the recommendations from the Deftones will be from that album.
Thank you very much for that Horacio!
RIP Chi
@@KeyOfGeebz MORE Deftones. Seriously.
I'm JUST as here for that as I am for Tool.
In fact, if I'm being perfectly honest....despite often saying Tool is my favorite band....I sometimes think it's actually Deftones.
First, more songs. Second....the sheer emotional catharsis of their work. Also, I _love_ shoegaze, dream pop, and new wave...and they blend that with the alternative metal thing so so well.
There are great songs on every album.
@@LeglessWonder I was fortunate enough to see them live about a year before Chi's accident.
This guy is so interested in the music and has such a positive attitude about newer music probably the best review channel I’ve found💪
Totally agree. Only reaction channel I feel
My dude, you're batting a thousand. You're literally hitting on all of my favorite bands systematically, and I love watching your breakdowns of them so much.
I just wanted to say you're super pretty and your taste in music is dope!!
@@digitalmascara OMG thank you so much! You just made my day. 🤩 You are also very pretty. 🖤
@@cassyh.2603 awe I'm glad 🖤 we should talk about music together because I have no other girls in my life that like this kind of music 😭
I guess the next stop is “Passenger” by them and, well, Maynard.
Maynard? Is this the tool vocalist? I'm most likely off but I'd like to know for sure.
@@brucebayne7162 yep.
@@biGGernax no way. I suck. but now I know
@@brucebayne7162 Nah, you're a cool guy. 😎
Just wrote the same thing - seems like a perfect next one
This guys is so fucking chill
Indeed
Deftones have never put out a bad album. Check out "Minerva" next!
The guitar tone in that song is just...
Hnnnngggg
One might also argue that the Deftones only ever managed to put out three outstanding albums. Followed by some great tracks sprinkled over random albums.
The first trilogy of albums, climaxing in White Pony and in this track in particular, were so good that it would have been a hard case for anyone to follow through.
@@munkhammer1880 I actually enjoy the albums after White Pony more than the ones before it.
@@munkhammer1880 I love Adrenaline but it is far from a masterpiece when you compare it to the evolution of their sound on their later work.
I'm someone who's not super interested in their very early work, I come in at White Pony. So for me, their catalogue is a set of consistently really good albums with two absolutely unbelievable peaks in White Pony and Koi No Yokan. Self-titled is probably the weakest, Saturday Night Wrist is a bit wobbly but has some incredible highs (Beware and Combat especially), and Diamond Eyes, Gore, and Ohms are just great across the board.
I can’t be the only person who wants a “gummy bear” edition break down.
heh hehehe yes, I've heard it said, gummy bears save lives
I'd pay for that lol
with the ventriloquist puppets?
I just want a gummy bear
lmao!!
If you like space, definitely check out Tempest and Rosemary by Deftones.
Rosemary is one of my favorites.
White Pony gets all the love, but Koi No Yokan will always be my fave. Whole album is Heaven, front to back
I think Entombed also fits well in that space vibe!
@@fabiomagalhaes7292 oh definitely!! I remember being so enchanted by it..
@@LeglessWonder Koi No Yokan is easily my favourite as well! It's just flawless
Abe Cunningham's kit sounds absolutely fantastic on every track of this album. I swear he's using some sort of wizardry to get those snare sounds.
He's the man, but Terry Date has a lot to do with it. He knows how to record a kit.
Terry Date is very into layering samples.
@@specialgoldenkitten750 Talking about ambience, or post processing?
@@CFChristian I mean during mixing, he will layer multiple snare and bass samples on top of each other to achieve his desried sound.
@@specialgoldenkitten750 For real? That's a little disappointing. Still some of my favorite snare sounds ever though. John Otto/Significant Other in there as well.
I would recommend also by Deftones - Sextape and Change
This is hands down one of the Top3 drum grooves ever written. The hats, the ghost notes, the splashes, the simple but varied single stroke fills on the toms = perfection
Glad I’m not the only one.
One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I’ve heard. I still remember laying on my bed in middle school with my Sony discman being lost in this.
I was in first year college having he same reaction, going on 40 and Deftones music just elevates my mood whenever I hear it. It has a magical quality to it that ignites my imagination and wonder of life.
Deftones get grouped in with Nu Metal but they are something special. You gotta hear the song they did with Maynard from Tool "Passenger"
they were never really nu metal , sucks that they were constantly grouped with other bands
It’s terrible that they’re categorized in the same genre as Limp Bizkit.... 🤦🏻♂️ Deftones is too great to be in there
That's because they started to become big at the same time as Korn and their debut albums have some stylistic similairities.
Adrenaline was a proto-Nu Metal album. It's undeniable. Around the Fur is where they really started to step away from Nu-Metal and distinguish themselves as a truly unique heavy band. And White Pony is clearly their masterpiece. With Diamond eyes being a much closer second then I think most give them credit for.
@@michaeldoyle189 I grew up in their home town and knew one of their neighbors (a Pimp) but never got to see them live. I was supposed to once but they canceled last minute.😫
It's incredible how consistent they've remained after all this time. Love me some Tones
“Haunting” is exactly how I’ve described his voice in this since I first heard it
Two songs by Deftones I'd recommend...
"Beauty School" which I think you'd have a lot of interest in with the sound engineering mind you have, as I've read many sound engineers actually use it to test/mix their sound systems at live venues...
and "Knife Prty" as it just has one of the most interesting, beautifully unsettling soundscapes. Also has one of the most incredible (and unnerving) impromptu cameo performance on any song imo, in the form of a female singer (Rodleen Getsic) who worked next to their studio and was brought in on a whim basically just to scream as if she was being murdered in an alley.
I love Beauty School. It's one of my favorite songs.
I agree 100% on Knife Prty I’ve been obsessed with this song recently
The sound scaping is done by their dj.
I think you'd really enjoy "Rosemary" from them.
A lot of good effects in that song and very underrated
rosemary is awesome
Underrated???!
@@puropinchepretty I would say it is. I know Deftones fans love the song but a lot of people still don't know it in my opinion haha
I’m 34, these videos are taking me back to high school when I truly invested my heart, soul, money, mind and time in enjoying this music and I’m going straight back!
Their latest album "Ohms" is an absolute banger.
You calling it a sausage?
@@TheMrgrieves0914 :D I'm not British, so no, I'm not.
Pompeji is my favourite track
Ohms really impressed me... really every album they've released is great in some way, crazy consistent throughout their career, but yea, didn't expect Ohms to be what it is, a great evolution of their sound into the more progressive rock side of things... I hope they keep going
Eh
Deftones have never released a bad album, period. But this is one of my favorite songs so thank you for doing it!
Gore was a bad album. The rest are classics
Gore
Yeah not true
@@machineunit Gore wasn't great, but over the years it's grown on me
yes thank you!! Deftones and Tool...only 2 bands from the early '90s that still get my attention when they come with new material!!! suggestion if i may: "Rosemary" from Koi No Yohan....masterpiece!!!
Rosemary is so sonically amazing, I’d love to see a reaction to this one.
And obviously ‘ passenger’ from white pony tool/Deftones merger
@@1949bug ofcourse...but to be honest....he better do an album review on White Pony!😉
@@pauljansen1137
Wow - white pony full review.....just imagine! This album still blows my mind after all these years (I sometimes dabble in the instrumental version too.....)
Geebs if you reading.........🙏
@@1949bug i totally agree!!
Knife Prty by Deftones has a really great sonic roller coaster in the middle of the song.
After the years of listening to White Pony, your post made something dawn on me that I never thought about before: this is the Deftones' "Dark Side of The Moon" album, a magnim opus, replete with soulful female vocalists. Thanks, man. ♥️
beware or entombed by deftones should be on the list 🤙🏼
A haunting mellow voice is a perfect way to describe his voice in this and other Deftones songs
The Soundscape: There is a DJ in this band, probably the one responsible for the extra sound effects.
The Story: He's in a bath tub singing to his beloved rubber ducky
I've always found this song haunting, gives me goosebumps everytime
"Xerces" - Deftones is amazing if you want to hear how ethereal and spacey they can sound 💕🎵
This was a lovely breakdown, thanks!
^Great recommendation
Saturday Night Wrist in general is this way.
Yes! Here for this, hope Deftones become a regular on the channel
This made me happy. Love some Deftones
This is what we wanted. Love Deftones
Their new album "OHMS" is too good, the way this band has matured with tragedy is quite an experience, specially if you have followed them from "adrenaline" or "like Linus" days
White Pony originate here, but yes, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say their career represents a reflection of one's own ups and downs, you know?
I love how Abe just quietly kicks ass back on drums. One of my all time favorite bands.
Digital Bath is my favorite right next to Hole in the Earth. Deftones rock man
As someone mentioned the "soundscaping" is coming from Frank Delgado who at this time was primarily just using turntables and effect pedals.
I would love to see your opinion about their song "Elite" from the same album, it won the Grammy Award for best metal performance.
Listening to Digital Bath on acid was the best experience ever, thanks to one of my best friends for showing me Deftones❤
Now I listen to them all day and watching this reactions makes me feel like I did something right
That must be like getting kissed by a blood spattered angel.
More Deftones! Be Quiet And Drive, Knife Prty, Rosemary, Kimdracula, Beware, Change, Tempest, Minerva, Hearts/Wires...
Nice recommendations
I'd recommend for more Deftones - Knife Prty, You've Seen The Butcher, Rosemary, Pompeji, Beauty School
^i 2nd the hell out of this.
If you are adding Pompeji you have to add Spell of Mathematics
The production on their song swerve city and entombed is amazing. Any song on their "koi no yokan" album is above and beyond.
The second time through the chorus always makes me want to break down. There’s just so much emotion going from the lower note “I feel like more” to the higher note the second time. His voice is so clean and heart wrenching. He’s conveying the thoughts and feelings of the story so incredibly well in that one repetition alone, but backed by everything else it’s just crushing. I love it so much.
THIS
Tw: but listening to deftones makes me want to sh I don’t know if that’s a bad thing either way deftones is one of my top favorite bands and I will keep listening to them c:
It's the kind of song where you don't have to wait for a special good part but the whole song is just nice to listen to.
So much of this feels like listening to waves crashing, and really crashing, on the beach. Of course the lyrics are dark but the music lulls you in like waves going in and out
My favorite deftones song, gives me goose bumps every time. I close my eyes and melt in to the music.
Deftones- Phantom Bride is a good one
Since you've been doing so much Tool you gotta check out Deftones - Passenger featuring Maynard.
And if we're getting into this era/genre please please check out At The Drive In or Mars Volta!!!
Could you react to The Dillinger Escape Plan?
They're very intense and complex. A mix between metal and jazz, if you want.
"Mouth of Ghosts" would be a great introductory song, or perhaps "Farewell, Mona Lisa".
Oh yeah! The Dillinger Escape Plan would be awesome!
While not a typical song of theirs, i think that the track "Widower" would be perfect for a listening, since it's more of an "entry level" track of the TDEP catalog, but showcases a bit of their aggression still and just simply an absolutely beautiful track that's so cathartic and could probably even be appreciated by people who aren't into their more "out there" stuff.
@@jakegomt You are a mouth without a heart
An action without meaning
@@godsmackhudejo Widower is an incredible track. Good pick!
Favorite band for over 20 years and digital bath is my favorite song by them. I’ve always said Chino’s voice/scream is equally haunting and sexy at the same time.
There's also a collaboration with maynard from tool on this album called passenger.
Throw the window open who cares what we see tonight.. I'm your passenger..
This song like many others
Puts me right in a space in my past
This record is hands down one of the best sounding records ever created. It’s so atmospheric, punchy, haunting and the drums might be the best sounding drums ever recorded. Just outstanding performance on the kit throughout. The engineer was a master with the vocals as well.
Please listen to Cherry Waves or Entombed by Deftones
Entombed 💕
If you ever listen to Deftones on a worthy sound system you'll understand how brilliant this band is. Every part works harmoniously.
Deftones is one of the greats! Id recommend Be Quiet and Drive.
Deftones was such a huge part of my 20s. I am 40 now, this song still gives me chills. Tool is my absolute favorite but Deftones is also definitely life changing. Passenger has a guest singer you'd enjoy
Phantom Bride is just haunting, it’s wonderful. I love the old stuff and I love their new. They don’t disappoint.
Easily one of their best
Knife Prty from the White Pony album is one of my absolute favorite Deftones tracks. Also.... an amazing live band ( back when concerts were still a thing ).
Do "Passenger" by deftones, it has guest vocals by Maynard from Tool.
You always explain things in a way that I completely understand. Thanks for that
Yes! More Deftones! "Change" and "Passenger" are fantastic choices.
I first listen to this song when i was 10 years old, my dad driving on his car, me watching the sundown and the mountains turning red in my city. thats when i felt that i was in love with that moment in time, and even if it was a shitty time, i was in love with that moment. i still miss and try to go back to that moment in time
Pound for pound my favorite band of all time.
I can’t get enough of your deftones and tool reviews. It’s amazing to relive these moments that have defined so much of me with someone else ❤
Hell yeah 🤘
Can’t wait til we start seeing some Audioslave or Alice In Chains also, take us back Geebz
Heard this song for the first time this year and it’s been on repeat nonstop!! Wish I had found Deftones earlier but I’m enjoying the music now!
If anguish was a siren calling ships into the rocks, it would have Chino Morenos voice. Beautiful, cloying, painful and inviting.
Ohhh this is one of those songs you make mac n cheese sounds with yo lady too.
If you go down the Deftones spiral ya might as well check out "sex tape" and "knife party", both great tunes.
You have got to listen to Knife Prty!! It’s definitely one of Deftones most artistic pieces. It’s haunting and beautiful.
i could literally picture steve, high af, go: "Yeah, dude´s right, song´s got space..." XD
i’m in a big 90s/2000s alt phase right now so the fact that i just discovered you tonight and you’re talking about deftones, tool, and system makes me very happy
You’ve seen the butcher by the deftones is amazing too. Enjoy.
I'd want him critiquing the music video to boot 😏
that exhale when the song starts....
"White Pony" is the best adult time album of all time ;)
Also "Mer de Noms", by A Perfect Circle.
Deftones, and white pony; 'digital bath' in particular, have begat a lot of tool and Plini fans. That song changed my life.
Others have already recommended it, but Deftones' "Rosemary" is an *amazing* song! Would love to get your take on it!
The soundscaping is done by band member Frank Delgado. He's basically a DJ with turntables and probably a drum pad machine with some atmospheric sound clips loaded in. He really sets the entire mood of this song.
When it comes to geebz..... I speak for us all when I say
"Tonight I feel like mooooooooooore"
😘😍🤘
Deftones make me fligh with their music with out smoke . Beautiful feel
I guess I’ll echo others, passenger with Maynard.
Guy, gal, black, white, giraffe, alien, they all will agree that this is one of the absolute fucking sexiest vocals ever.
This is the most "Booty Music" format that Metal will ever get, and i love his reaction to it. Brings me back to 2000, driving for hours with this album on repeat.
Whats booty music
I saw them at the Ogden Theater in Denver back in November of 1996. They’ve been my favorite band since.
I was at that show too!
For the love of god and music, pleeeaseee CHERRY WAVES.
give me a break... they have literally dozens of better songs
@@notimportant3686 why must people crap on Saturday night wrist. So underrated imo.
