🔥Howzit! I made a new DEFTONES PLAYLIST of all the tracks I have done on this channel - ruclips.net/p/PLFAb_86GE-ez7qtFNmo6K__bYhSkDufzG Thanks for hanging out, supporting, and sharing! AWWWRIGHT!!
Thanks for getting around to this, man!
I can't recommend this entire album enough, it is a phenomenal piece of Deftones history.
Aloha! 🤙
Also, gotta say, it's crazy how often I get around to listening to a band in my collection that's the same thing you get a video out of!
Love how this channel has expanded my eyes in rock and metal, and how similar a lot of the rest of the audience here picks around the same stuff. Good music all around, it seems!
FYI, you left Passenger, Sextape, and Digital Bath off of the playlist.
@@karmapedia Ugg - The older I get the better I was!! THANK YOU!!! Added :)
@@KeyOfGeebz I love what you do sir. And I love that you listen do Deftones. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. When I was in Iraq, I listened to their song called "Bloody Cape" EVERY single day before I went out on mission. Deftones is a very important and sentimental band to me, and I'd love it if you'd check out Bloody Cape. Take care brother.
Yes Bloody Cape is the mantra! Yes.
Uh i came to elect "Wolf Like Me, by TV on the Radio" for when you roll out new stuff
Deftones are masters of making slow dreamy music sound heavier than the heaviest metal
that's exactly it
We can thank Hum for that discovery.
@@billywilliamson8411 rip. one of the best drummers ever.
A great summarization I heard of deftones sound is like falling in love and getting your heart broken at the same time
A lot so more recently since Stephen started using 8-9 string guitars
Deftones is kinda like a genre in it self.
They definitely have their own sound. One of my favorites. Glad they were able to escape the shadow of the big nu-metal bands and keep going forward with their own thing.
Absolutely, very few bands ever achieve this greatness.
Casual: "What do they sound like?"
Me: "The Deftones...I really have no other way to explain it."
omg right!!!
I don’t listen to music I listen to deftones
Koi No Yokan is one of the greatest albums ever in my opinion. The title is a Japanese term that loosely translates to “Love at first sight” but not exactly like Westerners understand it. It’s more like a recognition of the soul upon meeting. Dope ass record.
I agree with you there. A lot of "old school hipster" Deftones fans will say Adrenaline or Around the Fur is the greatest and will probably never change their minds, but Koi No Yokan is probably my favorite so far. Wearing my KNY shirt from the album pre-order right now actually!
Its easily my favorite of theirs.
@@metalboy27 it’s easily my favorite Deftones album. You’re 100% about hipster fans and even more so would say White Pony is their magnum opus and it’s definitely their first BEST album but Diamond Eyes was a better record all around and KNY is in my opinion their best to date. Not as a collection of individual songs but as an album, it’s dynamic and cohesive and not stays on task. It’s sexy as fuck. It’s heavy and textured and nuanced. It’s layered and Geebz is 100% when he mentioned Abe Cunninghams kick tone. If you HATE Deftones, you still love their tones. That kick drum is masterfully engineered. You can think Chino can’t sing. That’s arguable but you can’t argue that Deftones have DEF TONE.
I just saw Sergio Vega playing with Quicksand last weekend and he sweated on me a little. Probably my favorite living bassist right now. He’s perfect for them, in the unfortunate absence of Chi.
Geebz channel is so dope dude. I usually don’t watch his videos if I already know the song he’s decomposing because I watch his channel to find new music but when I saw this track was the subject for the today I had to see if he’d bring up chicken skin.
@@metalboy27 EXACTLY-They don't REALLY like Deftones, just "Adrenaline".
Koi No Yokan is probably my favorite. One night I was dreaming about being with someone I'd loved and missed, and these two eerie chords in my head woke me up. I felt these chords, & tried to record something but couldn't express it on guitar.
A few days later, I see Koi No Yokan on the shelf of a music store. I get in my car and play it. AWESOME!
THEN the intro to Leathers begins playing in my car, and I just about lost my shit!
Its possible my Pandora was playing Leathers in my sleep that night, or my brain did the deja vu perception trick where I just THINK I heard it before. But I still believe I heard those chords the first few seconds of Leathers, days before I knew Koi No Yokan existed.
Every album has a slightly different appeal, and I love them all.
@@metalboy27 While Around the Fur is my favorite (for many reasons), I don't think there are any bad albums. Each have their strengths and weaknesses, and I love all of them the same.
This song is, to me, as close to a perfect song as is possible.
Koi No Yokan is their best album overall. Every song just mashes to one another, so beautiful.
but...but...diamond eyes... :x
I can't believe it's been almost ten years since this album was released! Time flies..
That's a bold statement my friend. Imo it's certainly great, also the most commercial. I don't think I'd personally call it their best. But that's sort of the beauty of their discography. All the albums sound significantly different. So answers to that question will vary quite a bit.
Its my favorite album of theirs also
It depends on the mood, strong contender in the top 3 deftones albums nonetheless.
I love how when Chino catches his breath, it goes right along with the rhythm.
I've been waiting for you to do this song. Rosemary is one of the best things I've ever heard. Great job, Geebz!
He's already done it, why were you waiting?
@@TylerTylerTyler he's done the band not the song friend :)
@@TylerTylerTyler what?
agreed
@@TylerTylerTyler no he hasn’t?
Discovering deftones in the 2000's as a teenager was like discovering there's a new emotion you've never felt before.
This album actually won metal album of the year in 2012 and I believe every member was nominated for an award from revolver
Really? I never knew that. Thoroughly deserved though. I remember showing my friends who didn't even like Metal and they were mindblown
The atmosphere on that whole album is on such a galactic level, it makes me want to get into my spaceship and go on a journey to Alpha Centauri ☺
Why don't you, then? If I had a spaceship it wouldn't be sitting in my backyard.
@@bernman23 already on my way, Wi-Fi not that great out here 😆
yes
Bro, no man's sky just flying around with stuff like this in the background is like an acid trip.
Deftones have a particular trick up their sleeve, and that's to create textures. They love textures and layering to create a hyper-moody atmosphere. Not dark, not light, but moody, all the same. Few bands as dedicated to that theme as much as they do.
Frank Delgado is the man.
I think Chino playing rhythm also opened the door for Steph to focus more on atmosphere.
@@RC_Cubed except Chino is the one who pulled the atmospheric change and Carpenter was doing very little writing up until this most recent album...... That's why it changed.... Chino opened the door to his own creativity..... There's a good interview with Chino about it and the pause between albums because the tension him handling so much writing and his writing style creates
@@karmapedia Indeed. This band's arrangements and ambience got right when he joined the band so to speak
Perfectly said!! They're all about moody textures!
Zero dislikes, you know this channel has a great community. We all enjoy what you provide for us!
Someone already fukin ruined it...
love your resistance profile pic! muse is my favorite band in existence and deftones is pretty close up there too for me!
Too bad I cant tell if your right or wrong. Screw youtube
Deftones is so unique. Been listening for 20+ years.
Same. Saw them in 98 and it was one of my favorite shows ever.
The TONE of that outro riff is absolutely disgusting, one of my all time favorite riffs. So simple but so effective.
All based from meshuggah too. Steph loves them.
You should give a listen to "I Am The Morning" by Oceansize. I actually thought this riff might've been an homage.
Naaaasty indeed 🤟
@@drumkidstu Oh yeah Steph’s a massive fan. His Meshuggah-inspired riffs are so groovy and heavy.
@@immaculatetoilet Thanks I’ll check it out. I’ve always heard of them and only ever got around to check out The Charm Offensive. Really liked it but never got around to checking out their other music.
One of the greatest metal tracks ever made. I feel like im floating through Interstellar space when i hear Rosemary.
that whole change around 11:33 is what reeks of deftones to me
That intro man... Before this song I've never heard a soundscape that seems to 'surround' you. 🤘
Such a warm sound
On a pair of good headphones 👌🏻
That riff makes me want to cry in a sense of feeling comfort - it’s beautiful and comforting, like a hug and understanding you never knew you needed
Frank Delgado's work as keyboardist/turntablist is often understated and I always enjoy it when you mention it.
Frank's ambience layering is Deftones secret sauce imo.
I appreciate how when the nu metal craze was kicking off with all these DJs, Deftones introduced Frank as simply "media". He's so much more than just another DJ.
Yeah, Geebz think it's in post but it's written alongside the music and done live.
Frank adds so much to the sound wall these guys out out.
@@Agostoic right? Like when you splash a lil Cholula hot sauce on your dinner *chefs kiss*
How great it is to see you react on this amazing Deftones song....in fact the whole Album is great and worthy of a full Album review!!!
Yeah Id say this would be worthy like going live for a special.. you could set a survey for what time to go live. Peak participation id say is like 8pm Eastern
Entombed, Prince, Cherry Waves, Feiticiera, are all great listens by Deftones. Cheers.
Yessss Cherry Waves one of the best deftones songs
I like you. All in my top 10 lol
Cherry waves is my favorite song from Deftones. Favorite band and favorite song. Rosemary is my favorite from this album
Mx, head up,around the fur, knife party
Outstanding song. No one does it like Deftones. So variable with their sounds, can lull you in with brilliant soft melodies before crushing you with brute force within the same song. One of the greatest bands ever
Great choice!! Whoever suggested this is on my level. My favorite song on my favorite Deftones album. The atmosphere on this album is so massive. Another reason you are the best!
Saw them play this song in a torrential downpour (B4 the album even released) at Jones Beach Amphitheater and it was an out of body experience.
I've been to many shows at Jones Beach, including Deftones a few times, and I can always forgive the less than stellar sound there, because there really aren't too many things better than seeing your favorite bands outdoors on a summer night. Good shit!
What year? I saw the Deftones open for SOAD at Jones Beach but I don’t remember the setlist clearly.
Abe Cunningham's Drumming is just so good too.
Man, I love Deftones!
Deftones like Tool and Pink Floyd, have this ethereal quality that transcends the music. Other worldly stuff, here 🤘🤘
you feel me man?? something about those bands bro.
Add Opeth and Radiohead to that list and you have my top 5 favorite bands of all time
Geebz, you're on FIRE with this countdown. 🔥🔥
Love the subtle "I'm human" aspect of your chanel. It's like icing on the cake. Glad you had fun with your family. 🤙
🤙
it always amazes me how much detail you can take in from just listening to a song once
This album is soooooo underrated in my opinion but one of my all time favorites for sure
This album just might be the perfect Deftones album. They really found a perfect way to blend their earliest work with their most iconic sound (white pony). There is only 1 Deftones. Legends...
Geeeeeeeebz! Great choice!
HOWZIT DERRICK!!
@@KeyOfGeebz dude, you caught me on a random day off... got rained out! So stoked i caught one when you dropped it!
Incredible :) What an amazing song.
Do others get visuals in the imagination while listening to music? As a sensory experience, I've always felt that the song as a whole takes us on a journey sometimes. The music infers, the lyrics intend, and the imagination interprets. This whole song is sensory heaven. At 15:02 DAMN... it's like breaking through the clouds into gold and that guitar is bliss.
I'm still here. Nice reaction, dude. Always love hearing Deftones.
This is one of my "help me sleep" songs, and I mean that as a compliment.
Killer song one of my favorites!
The first deftones track I can truly vibe with, thanks geebz and the comments
OMFG.....Geebz I’ve been waiting/asking a year for this....thank you so much 👍😎🙏
That subtle single note at the end yes indeed leads into ‘Goon Squad’ . One of those albums that needs to be listened to in full.
Can’t wait for your next video man 👌
DEFTONES, one of my favorite bands out there.
I remember hearing them back in '95 for the first time through the track Bored.
Result? Hooked!!!
To me every album they've released differs from the other yet it's ALWAYS Deftones!
It's hard for me to point out a fav record, they all give me goosebumps.
Thanks for the vid Geebz!
I love this band. Hope you have a great week Geebz, last night I just got back home from a week in the mountains with my family where we rented a nice cabin it was awesome😁✌
You too!!! :)
Yesss!! Thanks for decomposing this masterpiece!
I'd love to hear some more "The Contortionist"... maybe "The Center", "Clairvoyant" or "Holomovement".
If you are a fan of Chino's voice, I highly recommend one of his side projects Team Sleep, particularly the tracks 11:11 and Ever (foreign flag.)
Also, try Palms.
Yes!! Team Sleep!!!
From when the Deftones almost split after a huge Chino Coke binge🤣
And Crosses!
YES! One of my favorite songs. I'm glad you got this one down and took your time to dissect it. You should do the whole album Koi No Yokan, it is a masterpiece.
I’m so glad you listened to this song. It is truly a musical journey. The verses are bring you to a heavy, dark and low place while the chorus pulls you up out of it and gives a feeling of hope and rising above the clouds. The heavy closing riff feels like a climax of tension and strife that’s been building through the song. Finally, you have a closing piece that feels both like a release, a goodbye, and an end to the journey.
I encourage you to listen to this album from start to finish, because this song is part of the longer musical journey that Koi No Yokan is.
Thanks for sharing this experience with us through the wonder of the internet!
you should really listen to Loathe. I recommend "is it really you?" they take inspiration from deftones
Loathe is fantastic. Sad Cartoon, White Hot, Screaming, is it really you, love those tracks.
OMG YAY THANK YOU FOR THIS ONE!!!
I love that you can see him truly focusing in on every element of the song. Sometimes I’ll have to restart a song once or twice- this one included- because I’m not paying attention and feeling it enough
Yessir! Been waiting on this one forever. Possibly my favorite Deftones song right here. This is all of their sounds wrapped beautifully into one song
I've been waiting for this one!! Thank you so much!!
One thing I’ve always loved about those guys is they don’t give you too much of your favorite parts. They have some huge monstrous choruses and they’re all very tasteful and just long enough. They’ll always be one of my favorite bands.
Can never go wrong with Deftones. Good job, Geebz! I'm insanely jealous that you get to experience stuff like this for the first time. What I would do to be able to go back in time and be a teenager listening to them again for the first time.
I know right, and lose your earginity to Deftones.
Oh Geebz! This made my day. I had been waiting for you to hear this one. Love your breakdown of it. So good!
I’ve been waiting so long for this! Such a beautiful song. Great job, Geebz!!
I love this deftones album. Koi No Yokan is lowkey one of the best deftones records.
Really enjoyable to see someone in the know & open mind enjoying himself listening to some good music even when he knows how it's done (or even more because you know how it's done ?) . Thanks for doing this & in general what you do in your channel for us ! 🙏👍
For me, if you haven’t heard Koi No Yokan (shame on you), this song will make you want to listen to the whole album right away. Just an unbelievable song. Great reaction, btw!
It's awesome you have done this song. I have been listening to it nonstop and now I get to sit with you while you break it down.
Deftones are the most sincere, original and powerful band in the nu metal prog rock scene. Their diversity of soundscapes is at masterclass levels
Sooo good! The way they create the feel of beautiful darkness. Awesome 👌
Great song selection Geebz. This one from Deftones is phenomenal. It's one of those tracks that transports you on many levels. I loved watching your reaction to it.
Keep up the great work! I love hearing your input!!
thank you for doing this song, I love it so much:)
One of my favorite Deftones songs for sure! Awesome band! You're on fire lately with the picks
Congrats on 200K!
Love this track, knew you’d vibe with it.
Thanks Geebs. That’s one of my favourite Deftones songs and really enjoyed that.
How about The coin has a say by Every Time I Die, or Dark Horse by Converge? Much love!
Converge would be awesome. Dillinger as well.
I'm here to second that, some converge would be cool.
As another ETID option - ‘Map Change’. That song gets me every time I hear it….
Daaaamn Geebz! You're killing it with the selections.
But IMO the best part of this album is the transition between this song and the next one, Goon Squad, and it sooo kills me that you just barely missed it at the end. You gotta go back and hear those two songs plus the last one together, if just for your own benefit. Best Deftones album
Thanks dude requested this forever 🤪
The guitar player Stephen carpenter has a bunch of play through videos on the Deftones RUclips channel they released this one for Rosemary a couple months ago, check it out you don't have to react to it just enjoy it on your own time 😁

Thanks Geebz. It's always magical when you hit us with our favorites! I think for me one big thing that makes you stand out as a music reactor and appreciator, is the respectfulness you have for every musician and piece of music you come across. It makes you such a beautiful and inspiring human being. Thanks again. S2
Had my gummies, got philosophical. hehehe Great painting back there
I love your channel, thank you for the thoughtful, intellectual content.
Oh Geebz!!!!!!!! This is one of my all time favourite Deftones songs!!!! Thank you SO MUCH for this!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
One of the best songs I've ever heard and definitely in my top 5 deftones songs
my favorite deftones song by far. i wish more people talked about koi no yokan
Love this band and love this song! Thanks a million for reacting to it. Good luck with your surgery!
feeling so blessed that I found your channel early on and witness this your long journey here. This was another wonderful video with a lot of interesting engineering insight.
oh and congrats on 200k subs haha, stay cool!
This album goes beyond genre, beyond rock. But without being over-experimental.
Love Rosmary! One of my favourite Deftones songs. Deftones are such a such an amazing band. Have watched these guys everytime they have toured here in Australia since the 90s and they never disappoint
Most beautiful outro in music history. I hope its playing as i leave my body for the final time one day.
I know it outros into Goon Squad, but give "I Am The Morning" by Oceansize a listen. If this outro is the goodbye, then that track is the hello. :)
Cheers
Finally! Im pretty sure I asked for this in the comments a few months ago! This song is amazingly composed and outright beautiful!
This is the first of your videos I’ve seen. But I was glad you didn’t pause constantly. You did great analysis on long sections of the song. You’re on my radar now sir!
Been on a deep dive revisit of Deftones lately, and Koi No Yokan has risen to the top for me. Their most cohesive album! Im along for the ride with them forever. Every album has its own unique magic.Thank you for dropping this analysis!
Still here Geebz, always cool to see some deftones 🤙
Thank you for giving Deftones a good listen. I believe they break some of the rules of writing and recording... on purpose. It's always nice to have a Deftones moment.
Another great one, you've had some fantastic recommendations recently. This album is so underrated for a deftones album and it's one of the best.
You really knocked it out of the park with this one, that was awesome to watch. Right there with you on the chicken skin. Great analysis and great choice of song! You called out all the things I love about this track and more.
Watching this and head-banging along with you had me thinking -- how lucky are we to live at a point in history when we can literally dance with another person across space and time? The internet has its downsides like everything else but I think it's often taken for granted how powerful it can be at bringing people together. It's channels like yours that really demonstrate how magical it can be when we use this technology to come together and celebrate the things we love.
I was there and so excited to see how this comes together!!!
Sooo satisfying to watch 😂love this song/album/band so much
One of my all time favorite songs. I love your videos 🙂
Nice breakdown one of my favorite jams!! 👌
rosemary is literally my all time favorite song ever
Great review as always Geebz!!
Abe is such a good drummer
Thanks Geebz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah yeah geebz!! Excellent decomposition my good sir!! Always love the deftones, every album is sick. Thank you sir for what you do, oh and loved when you got the goose flesh, even though I knew it was coming I still got it too 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Good review ! First I heard this song on my headphones it felt magical lol
Oh ya! This is a great one Geebz. Glad you enjoyed it!
Hopefully you get to Enslaved The Watcher on your stretch of artists to revisit
One of my newer favourites from Deftones ever-expanding back catalogue. Thanks for this.
I love your DEFTONES experiences and I hope you do too.
Also, I see that RUclips award behind you, keep it coming my friend!
Yes! One of my all time favorite bands
Yesss Rosemary is by far my favorite Deftones song. So glad you checked this one out and stoked to see you enjoyed it so much. They are masters of ambience and soundscapes.
Love me some Deftones!! they are so diverse and have so much depth to their music. 25 years and still loving them!!
Love listening to someone who is knowledgeable about what they do. Passion always shines through. Also been obsessed with deftones lately. Knew there was something different and special going on behind the scenes.
