White Pony has one of my absolute favorite drum sounds of all time. In addition to the sound, Abe's playing is so in the pocket & lends such an under appreciated feel to the whole album.
That snare by the way is so iconic, you can hear II, the drummer of Sleep Token use an inspired version of it in almost all of the Sleep Token songs. One of his main inspirations in drumming is Abe Cunningham, the drummer of Deftones. I love that snare, you explained it perfectly!

The tone of that snare is magic. They don’t make them any more. Orange glass Ocdp snare 15ply 14x5, maple with 3 4”inch vents. One of the best snare Tones in the genre comes from Abe in deftones❤
There is no other band as truly unique as Deftones. They are a complete unicorn as far as music goes. I hope you will check out Chino's side project Crosses. You seem like someone who would love that project of his. Recommend their song Light As A Feather. Great Song. Guarantee you will LOVE it.

They are incredible, also really nice guys that would play at house parties back in the day. This song, and the whole White Pony album, is such a vibe. It really hits in some deep, dark places. Some music has a sexy feel on the light side of the spectrum that makes you think about making sweet love. Then there’s this kind of sexy vibe with an undeniable pull to the darkness that makes you think of your filthier, more taboo sexual appetites - the ones you don’t reveal right away. Great stuff, and it really holds up.
Bought this album when it came out my junior year of high-school. Didn’t know the lyrics to this song but I know the way it made me feel. Had a kinda girlfriend that was a senior, she didn’t want to get too emotionally involved so kept me a bit at a distance since she was going off to college that summer and this song to me was how it felt. “Feel like more”

There were a lot of lust-murder songs back then, try out some Southern Alt Rock from "The Toadies" and these three in particular "Jigsaw Girl", "Tyler", and "Possum Kingdom" The genius bit is how they sound like regular lovesongs and the lyrics even seem sweet until you figure out what they are actually about. Some even got radio play due to the poetic camouflage.
