100%! In fact whenever I hear Deftones now, it always reminds me of late night drives I would do when I was a teenager, with windows down and the cool night air in my Mustang. I used to listen to White Pony and Around The Fur a lot while driving at night.

They did say they think the song is about something sexy, and it is a sexy song, just in different ways than most other songs. Even though he is killing this girl it has sexual elements to it, so they weren't entirely wrong.
The sound design behind this song is utterly phenomenal... the texture of the bass in the beginning, and especially the breakdown after the second chorus, where you hear this sort of... watery mechanical tinkling noise. It's an amazing song.
That “watery mechanical tinkling noise” is superb.
That noise is done by hitting the strings on the other side of the bridge (the opposite side of the neck) on a T.O.M bridge for an electric guitar

I've loved Deftones since Adrenaline. I can recognize the difference and progression between that, Around the Fur, and White Pony.

Wow, seeing you guys experience this song with fresh eyes is an absolute joy as an old hat when it comes to Deftones.
The comparison to George Michael in Chino's voice is something I've never considered, but felt like a puzzle piece finally landing when you brought it up.
Love the song and loved y'alls reaction to it. Apropos smashing, I remember when they first released the album this song is from, White Pony, they mentioned that they wanted it to have the kinda music you could bang too which they obviously managed to make

I’ve always thought a lot of Deftones songs were very sensual, especially diamond eyes album. It’s Chino, he’s very seductive in his singing, and then with the melancholy music, how could you not think that? I remember sitting with my guy friends listening to diamond eyes album with them and getting a little uncomfortable cause I just felt like it was so sexy, like do they really like this too? I was so amazed. Love them, easily my favorite band of all time.

You can thank all the members of deftones of course RIP Chi Cheng but especially Abe Cunningham’s drum skills are by far legendary from the beginning deftones was created. In the industry he’s probably the best and at the top of stylish and smooth percussion vibes that is hypnotizing.

I just found you guys for the first time the other day and already I can't get enough of your channel! I absolutely love what you guys are doing here approaching rock music with an open mind. It takes a certain amount of courage and humility to do that. As an endangered species (a rock & metal fan) here, it's infinitely rewarding for a rock listener such as myself to see you genuinely appreciate, and at times even fall in love with this music of ours that we are so passionate about.

Deftones did a kick ass cover of 'if only tonight we could sleep' by The Cure. But watching you guys diggin on their tunes, I'm gonna suggest for sure 'Watching Me Fall" by The cure. But if that tune is too long to review, def just listen for your own pleasure. A shorter one is a very early cure tune, 'A Forest' You can def see how bands like Deftones & Korn were influenced....def see where that eerie cool ass complicated sound got some origin in the blended genre sound of those guys. The parts I see yall always digging on..the sound...oh yeah, The Blood is also another good one.
It's awesome to watch you guys on this journey & where it leads.

"The cord break away" part is in theme with "Digital Bath" cuz the songs about him taking a girl into a bath and electrocuting her lmao. White Pony is a pretty dark and sexual fantasy type album.
Mark K Chino was so wired on coke for White Pony that he has forgotten most of the meanings for the lyrics. Plus also, White Pony is a 70s disco reference to coke as well.

I was surprised to see reaction...but glad. Deftones were part of the Nu Metal movement but were so different because of their groove and Chino's vocals. Great reaction.
I feel like this is one of those cases where almost everything was considered "Nu Metal" at that time. But nearly 20 years later... yeah, Deftones really has nothing to do with that scene in hindsight.
They were some of the same early on, a great representation of it but, the band and Chino's growth makes them really stand out as the years passed.

Deftones have had a prolific career. They've gotten better with age in my opinion. They are masters of the light and dark elements of sound. They've really broke free from the "nu-metal" genre and perfected a sound that many have since tried to imitate. The dynamic of their sound is something some bands are really good at but fewer do it better. Solid song choice for this reaction, fellas.

Deftones is considered an alternative metal band and they are highly respected cause they are constantly pushing the boundaries of the genre. If you want to try other extremes of Deftones, try Change, which at least for me is haunting
