The avatar is standing on a dead Tohaa unit. You really nailed the paint job

I think it's a Gorgos. Some great time saving techniques here. I'm going to try this. Bit worried about over spray but will practice super low pressure first.

I think you are getting better and better.. it is truly nice to see how your painting skill grows with practice. I personally had the avatar for years and it is still in its box and up to now I thought I would approach things differently but I like the deep purple colour u used as a basis, it looks great and the blue in it gives a lot of depth to the red so yep u convinced me.. if I ever get to it I'll do the same!

Thanks for the kind words :) Trying to get better with every model is part of the fun in painting :) And the nice thing is, that this quest never ends :D I hope you'll have a lot of fun painting your Avatar as well!

That's such a nice looking model and paint job. I think I honestly would've just dry brushed the armor panels and then edge highlight with a brighter grey up to a white.😆 I'm currently messily painting up some Tohaa light infantry as there is almost nobody painting them.

thats excellent. are the new Corvus Belli mini's plastic? i was always put off by the metal but liked the design.

The new ones, at least the bigger models like TAGs, are plastic. This one is still in metal, and to be honest, I kinda prefer the metal ones, even though originally I was afraid of them as well. I am in the process of slowly collecting all the metal TAGs before they are replaced by the plastic ones, simply because they are so neat :D

Great Job. How about the new Annathematics coming soon? Will we see you painting it?

Yep, I'll definitely pick that up and paint it 👍

Great job with the Avatar! I'm excited to build and paint this one hopefully later this year (was able to pick it up for $38.70USD around the holidays). You certainly make a good case for upping the color transition game with an airbrush, I spend way too much time on it with a brush because I don't trust my ability to control my portable airbrush since it only has one pressure setting. Probably just need more practice and to "fail forward" I suppose.

To be honest, the ability to control the pressure is quite important for this technique. High pressure can lead to your paint being blown away on the surface on the model, forming 'spiders'. The good news is that you don't need an expensive compressor. Something simple with a pressure regulator and ideally a tank will work.
It is really worth it, though. Once you get the hang of it, it opens up so many possibilities :)

I want to try the technique you used where you make the highlight with the brush and then blend by airbrushing over it. You made it look so easy it got my hopes up for a good result.

That is my favorite technique these days :D It saves me hours of glazing and makes everything way more fun. Bigger models like a TAG are perfect to try it, but you can do it on smaller minis as well once you get the hang of it. Just remember to thin your paint heavily and do a lot of tiny bursts.

I don't know why but the mini reminds me of Malware from Ben 10 and a Ultralink from Max Steel

Such a fantastic paint job and only 5 hours?! Brilliant.
Do you varnish or seal that paint in at all? I love CB models but they chip very easily

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  4 месяца назад +1

To be honest, I don't really play with my models, I paint them and put them in a display case ( and in a video ), so I don't really need to varnish them. Plus, I use paints with lots of matte varnish in them ( AK interactive and Kimera Colors) and so far, they hold up quite well.

@@ph3lansminiatures thanks :) I will probably satin varnish them to protect them. I am going to give this skin colour technique a go on a Caliban (Shasvastii) model. Much smaller so I am going to go a little wider with the highlights. Hopefully it will still pop! I am also stealing you Umbra Legate basing because I think its fantastic and simple
