  • Today, I am painting the purple and white armor of Maximus, the new character from the Gen Con 2023 Exclusive box from Corvus Belli. I've never painted white armor on the channel before, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
    This is also the first Aleph model on the channel, so slowly I am getting to the point where all factions are represented.

    Hey guys! I hope you enjoyed the video! Which color do you find the most difficult to paint? ( and why is it white? 😂)

      Non metallic metal, honestly. But! Looking at references, I’ve noticed it looks great when you have the darkest shadow, a sliver of midtone (tiny), the brightest highlight and then a chunk of midtone on the other side, which transitions to the dark shadow before the pattern repeats.

    I just got the Blackwind box myself after watching some of your videos and feeling inspired to get back into mini painting for the first time in twelve years. This video will REALLY help with getting the white ALEPH armor to not look awful!

      It is really great to hear that you found some inspiration in my videos :) I hope you will have fun with the BW box, I have recently bought it myself, and I'll have some upcoming videos about painting it on the channel 😉

    So glad that Corvus Belli recognized your fantastic job with your channel and provided some Infinity goodies. Your painting looks amazing as always - I like it way better than box art due to that scratchy, metallic look - if you keep showing it maybe someday I'll be able to finally replicate it haha. Would you be able to paint some of the smaller Aleph or Haqq models as well? Blackwind box is so intimidating. Cheers!

      Thanks, dude! It is always great to see people like you coming back, watching multiple videos, and trying out the things I show in their own paint jobs. It makes all the effort that goes into making these videos worth it :)
      A lot of people have been asking me about painting the Blackwind box lately. Maybe I should get it and paint it up :) Are you more interested in a higher quality paint job or more like a speedpainting approach?

      @@ph3lansminiatures Just have to appreciate and support seeing how open and welcoming you've always been. The effort is evident, it's one of the better produced vidoes out there and also easy to follow. In terms of high quality vs speedpaint - why not both? Start with speedpainting and if anyone wants to continue - here're the next steps. Then again not sure if you wouldn't use different methods since the beginning so not sure if it's feasible? What I'd be interested in is looking at your high quality standard but without using airbrush which I cannot force myself to utilize due to lack of space mostly. Personally I need to work out NMM, I keep making it look like stone and not steel somehow.Cheers!

      Hmm... there are quite a few models in both factions, so I guess it is doable to paint up one of the better-looking models to a higher standard and then speedpaint the rest of the troops. I'll think of something 🤔 NMM is a learning process that never stops in my experience. Stick with it long enough, and you will get better!

      @@ph3lansminiatures I would say a mix between time and quality is a good call, just like how you said in this video you didn't do some things like glazing to save time, but still got a really nice looking model. I, personally, would also be interessested in knowing how much time you spent in a paint job so I can calculate if I have to skip even more steps to fit the model to my time frames.

    I'm a big fan of your painting style! Particularly the high contrast, reflective metal/armour that I see you pull off.
    Can you recommend any other resources to help with learning that style? (on top of watching all your videos of course haha)
    Could be books, other artists, videos etc
    Cheers!

      Thanks :) I would recommend to check out some of my favorite painters on youtube and maybe subscribe to their patreon if you like what you see. People like Sergio Calvo, Angel Giraldez and Jose DaVinci are some of my favorites.

    I painted mine aleph like demonettes.
    Luxon purple - slaanesh grey - white. Thanks to this greyish purple the transition is a bit smoother

    Pity that airbrush is essential for this white

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  Год назад

      Yeah, this approach is not really viable without the airbrush unfortunately. To be honest, for me, an airbrush is basically a must if you are painting either a lot of models or if you want to strive for higher level paintjobs ( or both) It is way more accessible than it seems, and one of the most fun and useful tools in the hobby.

      I was pleasantly surprised as well. Previously, these were only available in the Vallejo paint sets for the different factions.

    Even though it’s not metal, it’s a great looking model. Gonna probably get it to substitute the unknown ranger model for US ariadna.

    Fantastic paint job. I loved hearing your thought process as you where going through the stages of painting the mini.
    If you managed to paint the mini that beautifully in just a single day i would love to see what you could achieve if you spent a week, month etc etc on the mini im guessing you relied on the zenithal prime to do some of the heavy lifting for you and save time.
    Keep up the fantastic work and lovely to see a channel that does not rely on click bait videos to get views.

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  Год назад +1

      It is great to hear you enjoyed watching it :) I watch a lot of hobby content myself, and I am not a fan of click bait videos, especially the ones that try to play on people's outrage. So, naturally, I try to stay away from this on my own channel :)
      I could have used another couple of hours on this paintjob for sure, mostly on correcting mistakes and smoothing out gradients. This would have taken me probably three times the amount of time only a couple of months ago, but one advantage of trying to become better is, that it helps you paint not just prettier but also faster. And you can give up one for the other :) I chose speed over quaility here a bit, but I might try the opposite at some point when my dayjob allows me enough time :D
