One thing that might be useful to know is that if you do accidentally dash, as long as you die afterwards without completing the room, the winged golden strawberry still appears. All that matters is that the time you complete the room you did it without dashing.
And here I restarted the first couple rooms because I accidentally dashed trying to do the two button jump for extra distance, would've been super helpful I'd I'd read this before, but thanks anyway
on the last room i accidentally panicked and dashed (then died) and i nearly started over bc i thought it'd invalidate the berry. i decided to finish anyway just to see and boy howdy i'm glad i didn't start over
To anyone who's struggling at the last room (7:10) there is a setup that worked for me in getting Madeline to grab onto the moving platform. On the wall where she jumps off you can see a pattern of three snow pixel formations. Position Madeline so that her lowest pixel is one below the bottommost "snow spike", hold grab + left and then press and hold jump until you're just below the platform where you have to switch from left to right the moment that the game clips you around the corner of the platform. It will take a couple of tries but was fairly consistent.
Thank you for being the only tutorial that told me I had to add a second jump button cause I was stuck at the 2:39 jump for so long cause every tutorial I watched just said to jump twice
Same! I actually did the jump without having two jump buttons once but gave up later on. I was dreading that room when I went for it this time and the two jump buttons trick made it so much easier!
Maybe I'm late commenting, but with the room at 5:55, I found it a lot easier to just go for the spike jump instead of "bonking" on the ceiling. Then, with the room at 6:40, you actually get some help when you're as inaccurate as I am and take a lot of attempts just to get a few spike jumps right: You can go and open the secret pasage on the top left (which you can climb to easily after having gone through the first half of the room) and use that as a checkpoint.
This guide did it for me thank you. At 2:30 I found a more reliable setup is to walk up to the wall on the left and grab it, then (holding right and climb the whole time) the spike jump is much more consistent / easier.
I know I'm over a year late, but a few quick terminology corrections (mainly so people know what the heck you are talking about): The 'Ceiling Double Jump' is more commonly known as a cornerkick The 'Stamina Saving Walljumps' are usually referred to as neutral walljumps, neutral jumps, or just neutrals The 'Spike Jump' is actually a cornerjump. This is the only real issue I have with this tutorial, as spikejumps are actually something completely different where you are moved into a spike covered surface (or the surface is moved into you) which allows you to temporarily jump off of it before the game realises that you contacted the spikes due to the order in which the game handles different actions and checks.
I figured out how to do this more consistently: On the wall, there are white pixels. Most of the pixels are 1 pixel deep, but some are 2 pixels deep. Jump on the third-down 2 pixel deep one, and practice clipping your head through the traffic block. Once you have done that, jump off the block instead of grabbing. This is insanely easier than trying to turn around and grab. After you jump, THEN turn around and grab. You may still fail that, but it definitely beats grabbing
1:26 You can complete this room by going to the left, jump and press left a bit, so that you'll stand next to the spikes. Then jump and hold z(grab). It's easier.
2:31 how?? I’m stuck on this part with no clue what I’m doing wrong and literally no one else seems to have a problem with this room, my spike jumps never clear the spikes. Could someone please help?
3:10 *Potentially important to keyboard players* On some keyboards, for whatever reason, it is impossible to perform this trick while holding down the first jump button - i.e. you have to press your first jump button, let go of that button, and *then* press and hold your other one (if you don't hold you won't get the necessary distance). Of course this has to be done *very* quickly (but then what are keyboards for if not pressing lots of buttons in rapid succession?) Weirdly on my keyboard, it seems this would've been much easier had the level been flipped left-to-right, because I think I can be holding A (left) and then perform a jump on my second bind while my first is held, but not when holding D (right). Once I realised what was going on with my keyboard this room suddenly became easy for me.
I only needed this for one 3:20 but I'm glad I finished it after I was done cause your solution for 6:43 was way more satisfying than mine (I just used the falling brick from the top and did a really small hop, barely made it after way too many tries lol)
There is only one spike jump in the entire dashless run 2:43 (spiked corner kick). These are climbjumps or corner jumps (the trick is called 5-jump). Spikejumps are usually done with wind, moving away from the spikes, or obscure tricks with hitbox leniency. You need to jump off the actual spikes for it to be called a spikejump.
If you haven't done it yet, you have to hold the direction you want to jump to after spike jumping if you are in a neutral position you will be sent backwards. In this case just hold left while doing the jump
I some how first tried the double jump through That corner, no exaggeration! Thank you for the tutorial. I always thought this strawberry was beyond my reach till now:) Also, I can't grab the elevator in the final room 😫. I just bonk my head or miss it entirely.
Thank you for the tutorial even if sometimes I think some instuctions aren't as detailled as they should be, i'm pretty sure the speedrun terms and explanations weren't as democratized 4 years ago as they are today anyway. Also the last room was hell, it took me 1h20 while i completed all the other rooms in 20 mins, that jump on the moving platform was probably the hardest jump i ever did in celeste, good luck for people that haven't completed it yet !
5:54 i did this without the ledge jump, i instead spike jumped from the spot below the ceiling which wasn't too bad, since everything before it was relatively consistent
I actually found out about spike jumps by myself, but I had no idea how much you can use them and how to use them, I only thought you can get additional height when wall jumping...
my controller isn't read by my PC so I map controller buttons to Keyboard presses, but I can't map multiple keys to jump. can i still do a double jump??
From what I know, there is no way to do it without doing it manually from the settings files. After changing the settings file, you can have multiple keys be jump and perform the double jump
There's a far easier/quicker way to do the final room. Just look at any speedrun tutorial and use the method they use in that room. It cuts it fine with climb stamina, but if you fail you can safely fall back to the spring and try again. Whereas failing this method results in death.
