The moment when you are watching expert and think there’s not much left because this already looks humanly impossible then you realize you are only one-third through the video
Okay but how th expert looks humanly impossible
@@gmdFrameI like to watch some Celeste map clears from time to time to see how I'm progressing, it's a great feeling. I started seeing Expert as humanly impossible, and now that I am advanced yellow-red I can see myself doing it in the (not so near) future.
Now Grandmaster and beyond, when I become a TAS bot we may talk about those.
@@Martin-fb9pbgrandmaster is hard but like if you grind there should be some maps that you can do even now, the tech knowledge is normally a pretty strong barrier to entry. However i know of people who just skipped straight to gm maps because they wanted to. Like lava layer is a techless gm map in the strawberry jam collab and it would take a few hours but I feel like an advanced player could grind it out. Just have faith in yourself its often not as impossible as it looks(until you hit red gm and beyond)
Its probably weird for me but uh, I always saw Expert maps as doable. I'm currently finishing a red Advanced map. I started playing SJ like 2-4 days ago and wanted to see which level I'm okay with. So far red advanced is still pretty easy to me. So I'm gonna move onto green expert once I'm done with that map which will probably be by the end of today. I every level in Celeste within 31 hours of playing it. The only thing I haven't done is the golden berries but I'll probably do that when I can be bothered to do them.

Hopefully this shows non celeste players that we are not just playing hard maps to be masochists but because there's an actual progression in difficulty and eventually those are fine. Also that we don't beat everything by muscle memory or something
Except Gm + 2 basically no matter what you're spending like minimum 2 hours per room
Whatever's good for you, Masochist.

But. . . We are masochists! We do beat everything by muscle memory! We're also all trans for some reason!

for the record, for those who don't play celeste, the vast majority of maps do not go past grandmaster. it is only a tiny miniscule amount of extremely hardcore maps that are deliberately that hard. there's like maybe just a couple maps beyond gm+1. i have no interest in these personally! but i've played loads of celeste, so i'm here to let y'all know that there is sooo so much lovely stuff to enjoy even in just beginner!!
I'm confused. I finished the game. I'm at the b-side of the summit. I didn't even know there were c-sides. And some of those other maps also don't look like they are from the game.

@@minedone1236 Same. Chapter 7 C-side is the right amount of difficulty for me to come back to it and feel good about beating it every time. Although Farewell's final screen is shapin up to take its place for me.
The final screen of farewell is pretty much a 2min long intermediate green screen. The length and the stress involved makes the difficulty of it, but execution wise once you've cleared it once it doesn't hold a candle to some of the earlier screens in farewell or 7/8C
7c final isn’t even advanced lol, it’s like yellow intermediate

I mean I only really disagreed with the pick for beginner red and intermediate yellow. For beginner red he should’ve gone with like flag 2 instead of 2500m orb, and intermediate yellow could’ve been a room from later in 5b. Oh also intermediate red should’ve been like 5c final instead of 1c.
@@squibster81 I mean, that is a fair amount. Personally I'd say from green int to green adv is pretty inaccurate and then the rest is reasonable enough. Beginner does span from around 1a to 7a so it's not too far off.

I'm a fan of celeste but not super involved in the community. I 100% the base game and tried out strawberry jam, but quit near the end of the intermediate lobby when the levels started becoming more annoying than fun for me. I was aware that super hard levels existed far beyond my skill range, but still considered myself a fairly decent player, at least until watching this video lol. I could never have the patience or precision for jumpless+
Very good video that will probably be useful to a lot of new players
very good video! based on what i’ve seen in strawberry jam, i feel like a lot of beginner and intermediate stuff is harder than the examples you gave (though i might be wrong/misremembering), but this was fun to watch.
also, as an intermediate player, the later difficulty demonstrations start to lose meaning because all those levels fall into the category of “this looks humanly impossible why do people play this” lol
some of sj's difficulties (especially beginner and int) are slightly inflated difficulty wise compared to the usual definitions: begginner = 1a-2b, int=3b-farewell, adv=7c3+, expert=monika's d-sides
@@favretheundead ah, i didn’t know that, thanks! that explains a lot; my celeste mod knowledge is almost entirely limited to strawberry jam lol
This really shows for me how I’ve progressed. Still I am not very good and it takes thousands of deaths but I was struggling on a-side of most chapters and now I’m on chapter 4 or 5 b side. Still very difficult for me but knowing I’m getting better is so rewarding
Nice job! Where are you at now? I’m currently struggling on 7C.
After not playing Celeste in so many years, i finally got it on sale on steam not long ago, and it's pleasing to see that I'm sitting in the intermediate area! Excited to get into the custom content in time
3:00 Bee Berserk is probably the most funnest map I have played in the advanced section of SJ, the difficulty isn't too hard, and best of all is that the stamina is infinite 👍👍
100% agreed, its so fun
grandmaster+ levels look like malevolent entities of eldritch origin that you must take care not to upset, lest you fall prey to its many hazards and are consumed like the players who've come before you and the players who will come after.

surprised that farewell isn't on this list honestly
Everything on this list you see past 7c is WAY harder than farewell, although I do agree that maybe the moon berry room is around the same difficulty as some of the c sides’ final rooms
From what Im seeing Farewell isnt difficult for any particular room its just the first endurance test new players will come across. Where 7c, while short, has one very difficult screen with the first intro of actually precise movement. Probably the hardest thing mechanically in the base game if we just go on each individual jump rather than the 5 minute section in farewell. Plus it fits easier into a video like this
farewell averages around intermediate difficulty and peaks at low advanced
It used the same mechanics as deep blue (a red intermediate) but isn’t really as difficult, so it might squeeze into red intermediate.
in my opinion farewells final room as well as the moon berry room are both a lot more difficult than the final room of 7c@@-Logan_Word-7437

It's interesting to see how the progression goes from slow gameplay to levels of speed where it's hard to see your character, but then it slows down and relies more on precision.

7:36 The Knight appears, testing itself on platforming challenges on its quest to find a voice to cry suffering
Just here to say my piece. 7c3 is much harder than modded players give it credit. The last section is very awkward, and you need to target certain parts of the springs (not to mention that one drop down part). Sure, all tech needs a 5 frame timing, but it's the same universally so extended tech is pretty free. I'd put 7c3 in yellow advanced, and that room of bee beserk in green. The last room of it is harder than 7c3 though
I’m finally in the advanced section! I’ve nearly beaten 7C now, so it’s only a matter of time before I’m there!
As a person who thought gm was the highest, I was just in awe at the maps that are gm +3

i just started playing SJ and these harder maps are actually gonna hive me a heart attack 😭
Good video but the beginner to green advanced doesnt make sense. Farewell at most is red intermediate and for most of the level is just yellow int. Everything else in the base game including b sides is green int at the highest. For example, 7C only requires to to be a bit precise and know how to do wall bounces, but then the next highest difficulty you put requires you to know how to wave dash, hyper, super, know bubble dash tech, hyper bunnyhops(if im right), wallbounces, and reverse tech. Didn't mean to type this much but yee.
The reason why that’s the case (why 7c3 requires so little tech compared to the next map) is because the other map is modded
Modded maps utilize tech much more than vanilla, and also have different playstyles. 7c3 is an example of a non tech pure precision based screen, while most modded screens are based off of knowing how to use and perform tech while also being precise.
It’s also commonly believed that farewell goes up to green advanced, with final and moonberry being the ones that make it go up to advanced.
I think the list probably could’ve been improved if every single map in it was modded so the difference in play styles is more reasonable.
@@MagicianStevey i still dont agree with that, if you compare to the maps in sj for example green beginner is about the same difficulty as (maybe slightly harder than) 7a, and there are plenty of rooms in int that are harder than farewell. it maybe used to be considered advanced, but no longer. summit c side is also probably like red beginner-green int.
not all modded maps are about using tech either, there are plenty even at high difficulties that use little to no tech (cmb and lava layer are great examples in gm)

most of this is modded, the hardest vanilla ever gets is like red intermediate, this is slightly off. celeste is still a fantastic game and I highly reccomend it, it just has a very passionate modding community.
@@flash93Agreed. Celeste main levels are literally almost never hard (maybe c sides are hard but not really)
The main game doesn't go above intermediate, and 90% of it is beginner according to this ranking system. The main game has tons of content (plus incredible music/story), but there are also TONS of custom maps that are similarly easy and a blast to play. Also, as you play, you get better naturally, so there's that.

Individual Gm+2 rooms already gets close to farewell golden kinda difficulty, though most are still easier, top players usually wont beat a gm+2 rooms in a day

If you wanna learn about some of the basic techniques used you can look up a speedrunning guide, a lot of speedrun tech is applied in the rooms shown. If you wanna look at the more obscure tech Parrot Dash has some videos covering lesser known tech
@@egfloggygoggy Cool ! Thanks a bunch, I will :3
@@egfloggygoggy surely you do that 15 minute celeste tech explanation voice recording again
That is useful for vanilla Celeste players like me, I wonder if there is a Trials of Death level equivalent for this community
Closest thing to it would be parrot dash’s 9D platinum berry grind! She streams it over on twitch (the in game timer is at 600 hours as of right now), but she expects it to take a few thousand hours, so the time spent playing is similar (not entirely sure about the difficulty - trials of death is REALLY hard to compare to any other game just because of how precise and difficult it is)
@@nebulae5236 the difficulty is completely incomparable because ToD is mostly just really difficult, and 9dp is really long
you cant really compare D+ to wmfcg for example. personally i could probably beat election d with very little effort compared to some people (its matches my skill set very well) but give me a t4 golden and i will cry
@@erierierierierie I mean I did say closest thing to it. It’s the time sink more than anything, the mechanical difficulty of trials of death is literally the hardest, most precise thing in platforming history, but regardless, 9DP will take an absurdly long period of time. If you can think of a different comparison to trials of death in Celeste tho I’d love to hear it!
@@nebulae5236 i dont know of anything mechanically similar to ToD in celeste, i dont believe anyone is openly grinding for something so hard. im currently making a map that will probably take me a few months to beat, but thats standard for hard things in this game now. i dont think it'll be too long until someone starts a years long celeste grind. rickfernello doing 202 deathless is fairly comparable though, i think? as something we're sure on since he completed it
@@erierierierierie9dp will be harder than 202 deathless but honestly i don’t think it’s as hard as tod, 9dp will probably take parrot dash around 2 and half years with ~2000 hours but iirc tod took 4k hours and 7 years
6:14 i dont know what the fuck i am looking at anymore
