In my pour English I have to tell you Tank You soooo much for showing all what you show in this video. You are ti me, the only artist that show your secrets so clear and slow. I'm a beginner and finally I know how to mix colors etc.God Bless You.
YEAH!!!!!! I 've been looking online for days trying to find someone to explain the radio for floetrol and acrylic painting. Everybody just starts talking about how to do the chain pulling. but say Nothing about the paint needing something called floetrol. i'm new to painting and don't know what floetrol even was. Thank You so much!!!!! and you also explain everything calm and clear.
You are so awesome to explain all this for us. When I started mixing, I made large batches of floetrol and water. Basically the ratio is 73% floetrol to 27% water. Then when you add that to paint it's 73.3% floetrol and water mix to 26.7% paint. You can round that off really. Then you can put that in any size you want. I figured out measurements for any size bottle or cup if anyone needs it. It works great! Now I just need to work on my technique. 😁
This Video has changed my paint pouring. I know it must be frustrating when people ask you over and over... but THANK YOU!!! so much for doing this... I LOVE my paintings i have done with my new mix now...
aww Lisa! THIS make me happy! Yes, people kept asking and asking so I figured I would do a video on it (for the larger volume bottles) - I am happy to hear that your paintings have improved YEY :)
I like using those bottles also. To help with mixing I drop a glass marble into the bottles so as the paint settles the marble helps very much. I also prefer to use distilled water to prevent the paint/water from molding. Thanks for all the wonderful information in your videos.
Christy Aevaliotis ok....love the idea of the marble and distilled water. Thanks for that. I also watch ( and rewatch) your videos Kanella for great painting ideas
Thank you Kanella.......one can go goofy with all the videos out there and trying to figure the right mixture of paint! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your son is so cute, our son is 45....they grow up too fast! Enjoy your kids and their antics!😄
FYI: I have been using Sweezy bottles for years and if you add a piece of clear tape over your labels it will save you a lot of time....prevents them from getting paint and water on them and seals them.....hope this helps......Kathryn :o) I love your Video's and have been following you for a while and every one of your painting is GORGEOUS!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks Kanella for your thorough explanation ✅✅✅ I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and say hi to all. This is the best recipe mix to ratio explanation I have come across. My suggestion tip: I save used hair colour and bleach “peroxide bottles” for storing my paint recipes in.. I always mix my hair colour in a bowl so the bottles are left clean and I just wash and rinse them thoroughly, then after drying store them away. Most have the measurement levels marked down the side on them and they are designed to mix & shake with absolutely no spillages. The caps are either twist and turn or screw ons and best of all they are FREE 😍..
thanks so much - great idea on the bottles, but I dont dye my hair so I wouldn't be able to get my hands on them hahahah i dont mind buying my bottle from the dollar store thought :)
Yes I did watch the whole video & thank you for going through all the details, this is such a fascinating art & I'm am just in the baby step phase welcoming all the advice I can get. Thank you 😊
Loved the idea of premixing paints and storing them in the plastic bottles! Also your comments on NOT using silicone to make cells was very surprising & helpful! Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
Great video! Just had a revelation on paint mixing. Weighing the paint, takes out the variable of whether the paint is thin or thick right from the bottle or tube. Measuring by liquid volume doesn’t. If you are weighing the paint, I don’t think it matters if you’re using grams or ounces if you are using the same ratio, but measuring by liquid volume would not be the same as weighing in ounces if the paints are of different consistency straight from the tube or bottle. This new insight might solve many of my pouring issues!
For those who keep going back to this video (like myself), here's a quick list of the measurements! Floetrol = 3 oz/80g Paint = 1 oz/40g Water = 1 oz/30g But DEFINITELY watch the rest of the video, I love watching Kanella and she gives amazing tips!
@@KodyK2024 Yes Cindy, it can be confusing. You are correctly identifying that there is a difference between a fluid ounce - a measurement of volume - and an avoirdupois ounce - an ounce of weight. These two are NOT the same, so should not be mixed in this formula. There are 128 fluid ounces in a gallon and 16 weight ounces in a pound. It all depends on whether you are measuring a liquid or not - or your basis for measuring in any given situation. Stick with the same basis as is provided and simply keep the ratios right. Because Kanella's example is using weight - she has everything measured on the scale - her weight formula is grams or weight ounces in the appropriate ratio of 8 to 4 to 3 for Floetrol, paint and water. Scales weigh weight ounces; measuring cups weigh fluid ounces. Hope this helps.
Brilliant tutorial thanks. Just a little tip, if you squeeze the bottle a little while screwing up the top when the little red cap is taken off air is sucked in which will prevent a little paint explosion. X
Thank you so much for sharing how you mix paint. None of the artists share their secrets. How can our painting work without the ratios to mix the paint. Thank you for blessing me with your secret I really appreciate your transparency and kindness. Have a blessed day 😁
Thanks so much for sharing your ratios this is much appreciated. Ì must share my paint history with you! I started painting about 15 years ago and had a few successes but haven't done much for a long time but my plastic tubs of oft mixed 'special' colours have been with me all this time. I recently took up pouring and thought I can't waste this paint so did all my practicing with it...and after all this time! The colours are still vibrant, I had to thin them a little but I got some very pretty pours from my collection of spice tub 15 year old paint! Ive been quite a prolific Polystyrene artist and the tubs have kept perfectly all this time. The dried pour items are perfectly plastic and I can almost guarantee that the paints will not spoil. I'm 65 with first hand experience of the incredible longevity of acrylic paints and no doubt the new paints on the market should be even better. I just thought I'd share that with you, thanks for all your spectacular inspiration, your artworks are amazing. Love from South Africa 💖💖💌
Loving your channel you have been so helpful. I have only just started in acrylic pouring and loving it. I have you playing on auto in my living room and have a notebook where I dot important info you provide. So thank you for all your videos.
Oh thank god...straight to the point....you saved me, I’ve been going crazy with trying to figure out ratio S....you just made my day......have a good one.
ive spend the last couple of days watching all your videos and i'm in love!! not only your art, but also your personality is awesome! thank you for teaching me!
This was extremely helpful to me. I've seen so many video's showing different pouring mediums and flotrol paint combo's that I'm dizzy and confused as to what to use in my paints. Some say use a pouring medium plus flotrol plus paint plus water but I thought flotrol was a pouring medium. This helps me dial down what to use and how with also minimal expense on using a bunch of products. Thank you so much. :D
Thank you for making this video and sharing your insights. Your Dutch pours are amazing. I haven't had much luck with them yet. Tried a lot of different consistancies, but no luck.... Either my pain won't flow, or when it does, it just won't hold it's form when it's drying. Just found this video. Hopefully this way of working will bring me a nice painting for once.
Omgoodness! Thank you so much for making this video. I was so confused about how to correctly thin out the paints and what to use. Really appreciate you being so thorough when explaining everything. You’ve gained a new subscriber. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Oh- and they should have a love button!!! Im trying DESPERATELY trying to get a good recipe for CELL ACTIVATER. The video on the tv sent me here! THANK YOUUUUU! I want to do this technique on a dresser.
Aside from being a super artist, you are also an AWESOME teacher. I am a teacher - not of art - but you truly know how to teach. Thank you SOOO very much!
I can’t wait for the day that I hopefully get to where you are with your art!! Lol I’d settle for being able to afford the two bottles of resin you have 😂 I love your videos and have learned soooo much from your videos!! Still can’t leave negative space on a blow out though 🤷♀️🤦♀️
👍...I've had paints last a few years mixed like this! Works well but I do use distilled water otherwise I found they got a little smelly lol. A couple of marbles in the bottle helps with the shaking too and pencil top erasers as a backup for when you will inevitably lose the cap that comes with the bottle😝.
hahah thanks for the eraser comment! :) I dont think my paints will last years in those bottles...lol... i paint too much to have those last that long in there :)
You’re awesome. I’ve learned more from your videos than anyone. I’d love to pick your brain tho... 1. Do you ever use glue? 2. I’ve heard some use household paint?
Hi Kanella. I was having a difficult time with my mix. Your mix is perfect. The consistency comes out perfect using the drip test. No need to add water...perfect. I now have the most beautiful cells. Thank you!
I just came across your page when your page when you did a black, white, and silver piece for an art submission. I saw this video and was so happy because I loved your piece and wanted to try doing one for my bathroom. Thank, thank you for taking the time to share information with us all.
Hi Kanella Just rewatching your mixing video & was wondering if you did do a drip test on a consistency chart what does your paint run rate on the scale on the chart. I absolutely love your work & I’m just wondering if you could let know as all paints are different. Many Thanks Michele 😊
I have one question. The explanation of how you mix your paint was great. The next time you do a dutch pour could you please show the consistency of your white that you flood the canvas with and pour around the colors.. Thanks.
Hi Evelyn - I know in this video i said i 'eyeball' my white - but I actually now MEASURE my white lol exact same ratios as the coloured paints. I learned the hard way that eyeballing doesn't always work lol
Thank you. I wrote down your formula for measuring and will follow it to a tea. I haven't been measuring either and found it isn't a really good idea. LOL
Thank you so much for doing this! I'm new to fluid painting - a gift to myself for surviving 2020! I'm struggling with Dutch pours - I'm getting too much lacing, and not getting the beautiful bloom effect that you get. I've not yet had the guts to mix a whole bottle of color, though and I suspect that consistency might come in mixing a larger quantity of paint? Just got some LOLI VEFI bottles so I'm ready to roll now. Question: Do you adjust the formula with varying thicknesses of paint - Golden paints seem so much thicker, Deco Art seems so much thinner, mostly I use A. Loft and Arteza, but even those are not the same.
This was probably tedious for you butnow as Ive noticed you can refer back to this video. I'm sure most of us newbies appreciate it but Ive learned from others often different brands and techniques require different paint consistencies. Thank you for helpingall of us and being willing to help🙋♀️🥰🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️🧚♂️🧚♂️
so a breakdown for anyone wanting to mix smaller or larger batches of paint, the floetrol to paint ratio is 2:1 and the ratio of water to floetrol/paint mix is 4:1 or 25%.....
Hi: Just wondering is the ratio still as shown in using liquid paint vs. tube paint. So if using 40gms of tube paint, would I use 40 gms of liquid paint? Love your videos
I was wondering the same thing. I'm guessing not since the "ready to pour" pouring paint is "ready to pour" lol and is already watered down some. So does somebody, anybody 🤷♀️ know the ratio for that vs the concentrated tubes of paint.???? Thanks!
I’ve asked Kanella this same question!! She uses a few grams less of the heavy body paint and the rest of the ratios remain the same! Hope this is helpful. Also with the fluid paints I would use less also
Great tutorial! Am I the only cheapskate that cuts the tube of paint to get every last bit of paint? Lord, I hope not. I pay for that paint, I’m gonna get as much as I can out of the tube. Food for thought 💭. Still love your art, regardless 😊
Thank you for explaining how you mix your paints. I have been buying numerous paints and trying to figure out how to mix them properly for a dutch pour. You are awesome and I truly appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share with us.
Here in Aug 2020 to get ideas to combat boredom from Covid19 lockdown here in Australia. Government here determined to stamp out community transmission before our summer tourist season.
Hi! New to you and all of the art. You my new friend are an AMAZING ARTIST! But i have 1 question. Can you uae resin instead of the flood as i call it. Lol
Your son was so cute peeking up from the couch!! Awesome video but that definitely made it that much better!! He made me giggle! I have 3 boys and they crack me up so I loved that!! Thanks for this and for ur message in the description. I have referenced your videos a ton for ideas and advice on what to do. I am definitely a beginner with all this and am doing these things with my sons, 7 and 13, for fun and bonding, they enjoy it a ton. My third is still just a babe so washable (edible) finger paints for him still (like icing ;) lol). I appreciate you sharing your ratios. Wish me luck on trying them out on our first blow pours. We've only done flip cups so far. I am excited to try a blow pour (or whatever it's called) soon!! I think those are just gorgeous. First one I ever saw was from one of your videos of you doing two canvases and they were just stunning. I can't wait to try one for myself!! I know my boys will be excited too! Have a wonderful day!
You rock! Seriously. Your raw delivery and your attitude is the absolute best! I love watching your videos for the information and knowledge, AND because of how real enjoyable you are to watch!!!
Waow!!! Thank you very much for a clear and good review. I love your paintings. I'm a beginner and watch lots of videos to learn more. Have painted porcelain myself for 42 years so I hope that I might have some benefit from it. So once again I love your paintings and I continue to follow you from here Sweden ❤️❤️ hugs Git
I stumbled onto your channel today and I'm so happy I did! Thanks so much for breaking down your process and explaining things so thoroughly! I'm super amateur, so the detailed explanations is sooo helpful! Your art is beautiful! 💜
Im not sure what number video I just watched, but I was laughing because your dogs just started going crazy! OMG sooooo funny! What kinda kids do you have? The video was the 4 sets of tiles you needed to do as a custom. Seriosly still laughing I guess you could say Im obsessed with your work. I have you on the laptop AND the TV!
Than you so much for making this techniques so enjoyable. You're so kind to share all your knowledge with everyone. I believe that if you give you'll receive and I hope that you keep getting all the support and success that you deserve. Gracias.
Thank you for this educational video. Beginners have a bad time because that type of information is hard to come by. I appreciate the time you took to use your experience and expertise in order to give us a leg up.
I am brand new to acrylic pouring, and this video of ratios is such a huge help for me! Thank you so much! I enjoy all your videos and beautiful works of art. SO inspiring!
Thank you for being such a good teacher. Your tutorial is so helpful. (Hi Lucas. He is so cute.) This is very kind of you, your time is appreciated. Huggles always. Liz 👩🎨💖🇺🇸🍀🦓🌻
I've been meaning to watch this video for a few months. So glad I did. I've never done any acrylic pour but I'm fascinated by it. Looking forward to trying it after the holidays. Thank you so much for giving us all some truly useful info. Also, I loved seeing your son in the background. You are so cute, Kanella. You have this friendly, easy-to-listen-to vibe in all your videos, and you seem to have that something that Chip and Joanna Gaines have that makes people come back for more. I wish you the best, always.
Thank you SO MUCH ! 💕You keep it simple. I get overwhelmed with all the different recipes/ processes. I have wanted ALOT of products & money trying to get the Dutch pour correct.
I really enjoy your tutorial , I also like how you done your mixing....Thank you...I must be honest with you your way is the best I've seen so far...Thx and keep up the good work...Blessings.
Hello Mrs Kanelle Ciraco, We are a old lady's get together and watched so many artists do what you do. And we have decided that you're the BEST!! AWESOME TUTORIAL..THANK YOU SO MUCH! As for me never in my life, did I pick up pain or brush. Therefore, PLEASE help me get the list of items that I need to do 10% of what you're doing. We respect you for sharing your informations. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Have a wonderful day😘😘
Brilliant tutorial -- thank you so much! Very helpful indeed, will give this recipe a try. Like you, I have stopped using silicone oil too. Before I knew any better, I did a "job lot" of resin over the top of six dried canvases (it was resin day!). I'd used silicone oil in all of the paintings and the patchy resin overcoat totally ruined all of them. A friend suggested sanding the resin off and starting over, but I don't have the patience for that. I just don't use the oil anymore. Chase Fluid Art says cells are created by physics/gravity rather than chemicals, but your pouring mixture still has to be spot-on to get the results. Anyway, big thanks for the recipe tip!
Ty,Ty,Ty I do appreciate you making this video. I am new to Dutch pour and have had a hard time finding a recipe until my friend introduced me to your channel today. So much love to you. P.S. I did read footnotes re: the evolution of your recipe and what works better currently. ❤️
I just watched your video where you compared both Floetrols and the Oweatrol l don't know if l even came close to spelling that right😬😂. Anyway, it is A MA ZING!!!! Oh l can't tell you how much l needed that information and appreciate the time it took for you do it. I work EVERYDAY one way or another so it would have taken me a month. I like the Oweatrol and the American Floetrol too. I knew the Aussie Floetrol so Julie have cells. That's why I keep a bit on hand. I just bought the Oweatrol to try it out and you did it for me. Thank you, thank you a million times thank you!🥰 P.S. I commented here because I couldn't there.
You are the ONLY person actually showing HOW TO MIX THE PAINT!! YOU ARE AWESOME
Aww thanks!
Finally! Someone who’s willing to thoroughly explain the ratio and measurements. Thank you SO much!! 💕
ou are most welcome!
Kanella Ciraco Art how do I make my base white - it it just floutrol and white paint? Why don’t u add water to this

Floetrol = 3 oz/80g
Paint = 1 oz/40g
Water = 1 oz/30g
But DEFINITELY watch the rest of the video, I love watching Kanella and she gives amazing tips!
thanks so much
Synethesia wouldn’t the paint ratio 1.5 oz since it is half the floetrol amount?
If the grams are on a scale then isn’t that by weight? Ounces would be liquid volume. Now I’ve confused myself. 😂

I just came across your page when your page when you did a black, white, and silver piece for an art submission. I saw this video and was so happy because I loved your piece and wanted to try doing one for my bathroom. Thank, thank you for taking the time to share information with us all.
i use my husbands fishing weights in the bottom of my bottles to help mix. like the little ball in nail polish....
lisa Ayers you can also get stainless steel 1/8” balls from gesswein item# 852-1071

Shuch an excellent solution!! Congrats
@@HendersonDesign perfect idea. thanks!
Hi Kanella
Just rewatching your mixing video & was wondering if you did do a drip test on a consistency chart what does your paint run rate on the scale on the chart.
I absolutely love your work & I’m just wondering if you could let know as all paints are different.
Many Thanks
Michele 😊
Check out video number 434 on my RUclips channel. It’s a newly updated version to this video. It answers a lot of your questions. 😊
I have one question. The explanation of how you mix your paint was great. The next time you do a dutch pour could you please show the consistency of your white that you flood the canvas with and pour around the colors.. Thanks.
Hi Evelyn - I know in this video i said i 'eyeball' my white - but I actually now MEASURE my white lol
exact same ratios as the coloured paints. I learned the hard way that eyeballing doesn't always work lol
Thank you. I wrote down your formula for measuring and will follow it to a tea. I haven't been measuring either and found it isn't a really good idea. LOL
Agree. I tried eye balling it, I tried following others measurements and use exact same product and found my paint would not move ..
you are by far one of my favourite artist. I keep coming back to this video.... thank you so much for doing it 💗
Have you seen the newly updated one? Check out video 434
Kanella… this is so cute, I see your little boy in the back trying to pay attention to what you are saying.
Love him..❤️❤️❤️
I use plumbers tape on the threads of the bottles and WaLa no leaks.😊
awesome! thanks for the tip!
So, there's 170g, need 150. Floetrol 80g. 40g paint. 30g water. @5:55
that is correct.
This video was a total game changer!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this....I absolutely love your work
This was probably tedious for you butnow as Ive noticed you can refer back to this video.
I think you meant the water to floetrol/paint mix is 1:4.
Too confusing for my simple brain.
Still love your art, regardless 😊
i do it too!
thank you so much new to this. it really helps especially with the bottles.
Thank you for explaining how you mix your paints. I have been buying numerous paints and trying to figure out how to mix them properly for a dutch pour. You are awesome and I truly appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share with us.
I use pencil erasers for caps..
I watched this 3 diff times and just saw the kid's head pop up today lol
Here in Aug 2020 to get ideas to combat boredom from Covid19 lockdown here in Australia. Government here determined to stamp out community transmission before our summer tourist season.
Hi! New to you and all of the art. You my new friend are an AMAZING ARTIST! But i have 1 question. Can you uae resin instead of the flood as i call it. Lol
best ratio mixture video ever... I have been searching lol ...thanks for sharing
Use plumbing tape on the bottles so they don’t drip.
Thank you for this video. I mix crazy and now i will set up my bottles this way.. Makes sense to set all color before doing paintings.. Thanks again
You rock!

I wish you the best, always.
awww thanks for the kind words Linda... I love Chip and Joanna... they have a great show.. they seem like such awesome people!
So helpful!!! Thank You for sharing your knowledge, especially your thoughts on silicon... Thank You, again! ❤
Thank you SO MUCH ! 💕You keep it simple. I get overwhelmed with all the different recipes/ processes. I have wanted ALOT of products & money trying to get the Dutch pour correct.
Kanella I watch this ALLthe time great info but that ADORABLE LITTLE BOY. I just adore him!!!!!!

No problem. You should check out my updated video of paint mixing. This is an old one. Video 434
OMG ur son peeking over the end of the couch is so cute!!!!
I add a marble to my squeeze bottles. It helps mixing..😃Thanks for sharing
Ty,Ty,Ty I do appreciate you making this video. I am new to Dutch pour and have had a hard time finding a recipe until my friend introduced me to your channel today. So much love to you. P.S. I did read footnotes re: the evolution of your recipe and what works better currently. ❤️
Thank you. Do check out video 434 on my channel. It’s a more updated version of this video. 😊
Thank you so much for your video, it was really helpful! I used your formula for my coasters and "finally" got beautiful results! Thanks again!
Thank yo so much I am brand new and this gives me a great start! LOVE your work
