Nuanced ranking, time to listen again to the Doors. I admitted, I’ve neglected them a bit … but your ranking inspirerd me again. On the other hand, I turned those records to grey ( is that how they say so in English ?) No molesto mosquito !🚪once saw them in Brussels ( vorst nationaal) with Ian astbury but I went more for the other band members . But it was a great gig ! Greetz 🎸
The Soft Parade was a pivotal album for The Doors. The overwhelming majority of the material on the Doors first 3 albums was already written and played live in clubs before they even signed a record contact. That is one of the reasons their third album (Waiting for the Sun) seems a bit thinner than the first two albums. Waiting for the Sun was supposed to contain the epic length "The Celebration of the Lizard", but the band couldn't get a good take in the studio and just included an excerpt (Not to Touch the Earth) on the final album. The Soft Parade (their 4th album) was the first time they had to write completely new material for an entire album, so they decided they may as well expand their sound by adding orchestration.
Well done for ranking 1-5. For me, this is impossible. With every mood/day/hour it would change. For me, they all deserve number ONE. Great review.... now I need to listen to 'LA Woman'!!!
Hats off for you for defending Soft Parade (a fantastic album). I guess people don’t like that one because they tried something different on that one, but that’s why I like it
Great video and I am glad you also rate Soft Parade so high. It's very different to the rest of their discography, but totally interesting and a very brave experiment. Otherwise, all perfect except that I would always have L.A Woman at #1. It's perfect in my books 👌
As someone said in these comments, "I really enjoy your passion and love for music" too. Music is life. But on account of the Doors' albums, I desagree a little. For example, I think Other Voices is better than Full Circle. Also, I think Waiting for the Sun is better than The Soft Parede........ well, it's so subjective, isn't it? Greetings from Brazil!
@top5records796 So, I actually listened to both albums once each over the last month. I started with Full Circle and was not blown away. Then I grabbed a vintage copy of Other Voices and found myself enjoying it much more. The song writing just felt more like The Doors to me. However, I did dig Verdilac off of Full Circle.
I love American Prayer, not sure why you think it's so bad. Your dismissal of the album shows a lack of understanding. It was conceived by Jim himself using his own poetry recordings, an 'audio collage' is a perfect description. I highly recommend you research the story behind the album (good Wikipedia article). I would not have included it on a ranking of Doors studio albums.
I have included it because wikipedia and rateyourmusic consider it a Doors album. I was in doubt wether to include it because I wouldn’t call it a regular ‘music’ album.
Waiting for the Sun is a weak album with a handful of good songs. No reason to be higher than 6th. Soft Parade has its charm, some excellent songs, but it also suffers from an almost tongue-in-cheek approach to the record, not 'having fun' but 'making fun' of themselves and the industry...it's hard to take the horns seriously when you have 'Wild Child' on the same album- leaves a feeling that they are not being genuine.
Wow. I agree with ranking. Exactly the same order that I put them. Every word of this post is spot on. Great job!
Thank you! I am so happy to hear that!
I really enjoy your passion and love for music

Thank you! And awesome that you saw them live! Very jealous over here!

I am happy you agree on The Soft Parade! It is very fresh and new.

Thank you! It is indeed very hard to rank those!
I have a CD of The Soft Parade. It is worth having for the ‘outtakes’ and demos. Jim’s vocals are the best ever!!
@ sounds awesome! What kind of outtakes are there?
Not really outtakes. Just raw demos. You MUST listen. His voice makes your spine tingle.
Awesome! When was it released?

Thank you! And I guess you are right. I think the time is here for new generations to give that album a shot.

Interesting! L A Woman higher than selftiteld?
@top5records796 Absolutely! All the albums with Jim are brilliant though 🏆
Impressive, as a Doors fan I couldn’t have stated it better.
Thank you!
Bought the new rhino box, hope it has great sound quality.
Interesting! What Rhino box is this? What did they use?
Just checked; mastered by Kevin Gray from the original Analogue Masters. Now I am interested!

Völlig mit einverstanden!
In my opinion, Other Voices smokes Full Circle. There's still a little magic left in the songwriting but that's not the case with Full Circle.
You don’t like the songwriting on Full Circle?

Rankings SUCK
Oh no, they are very much fun.
