To our friends in the old country that may have never seen one of these, it was developed to replace an Oldsmobile diesel in 1982. The problems with them are that they are underpowered and underbuilt. When they tried enlarging them to a 6.5 and adding a (small) turbo, everything started breaking. Blocks, crankshafts, head bolts, even the starter would tear part of the block away. They were so prone to overheating they had to redesign the cooling system to use dual thermostats. The 6.2 is fine. You should have a good engine.

This has got to be the funniest and most entertaining video I've seen for ages especially when fudge laughed when your attempt to make the temporary fuel supply work, pure classic. Always amazes me how talented you are Al to get dead engines going, when it barked off the first time i thought you two were going to shit yourselves 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Keep em coming.

I ha had this engine in an American RV I had. Yes, not quick at all, but plenty of torque, and very smooth. I believe they used in in the Humvee for the American military. And yes, it was 12v but needed 2 batteries in parallel to provide enough ampage

Another great video as always. I saved this video for a day off and you certainly didn't disappoint. Without doubt your will it starts are the best will it starts on RUclips as I feel I'm sharing your annoyance at trying to start an engine. Despite I wear headphones when I watch RUclips, I shouted "go on start yer bugger"!! 8 o'clock on a Sunday morning I thought I'd woken the whole household up!!! By the way, old man cushions rule, as I'm 55, spent the whole time since I was 16 at the same firm playing around with trucks, originally garage teaboy/gofer but the last 25 years spent driving, everything we deliver we unload so my knees are well and truly buggered. My 6 year old self wanted to be a lorry driver so I was screwed from the start!!! Please keep on doing everything that you do. Thanks lads.

I remember the Landy mags raved about these things back in the day; also remember a particularly prominently featured 110 with one in it and how they were the best thing since sliced bread. Cue the proliferation of the internet, and *actually* these things are utter pig crap, and they're only half decent in a Land Rover because they're about two tonne lighter than the Suburban they came out of...

What you should do now is modify that engine and put it in the silver transit van that donated its engine to trigger
I put one in a range rover on an auto box kept shredding bell housing,s!!!!way ott 4 a range rover especially when you consider what power can be had from much smaller engines !!!! Nice bit of kit though all cast heavy old beast ,i think the yanks had them in fire trucks back wen nice one boys😊
gents I am sure your aware the quick way to stop a diesel is to use a flat piece of woodflat across the air intake

Put a chain on it and use it for a boat anchor! The 6.2 was junk engine I had two of them come apart, first broke a crankshaft at 55 miles per hour and the replacement end up with push rods in the oil pan while doing 25 miles per hour, cost the outfit 2000 bucks to fix.

The other ground/ earth are for the body! British dude worked mechanicing in America (still does) for 30 years, yes that engine only has torque no HP s. It can pull a greasy string out of a cats ass😂 though. GM played with metric and used both very confusingly through to the early 2000 s

Blimey that monster is like 2/3rds the volume of my Reliant van O.o I did toy with when offered an ancient but quite small Ford flathead V8 of putting one in the three wheeler, also toyed with a Cologne V4 but I do know someone who might part with their Reliant 950cc with a slight bore which means I don't have to carve out half the passenger front and pay for welding supplies holidays for 10 years building a rig to hold. There is a Soviet V6 which was fitted to their version of the Reliant's I could have one sent over, they are rear drives too which would make it interesting but think the 950cc is likely the move to make (950's were fitted to Liege's)

I'm wondering why you didn't wire the bateries in paralell to give 12 volts but higher cranking amps. Then again I didn;t think of his until towards he end either.
We did in the beginning with some jump leads, sadly the slightly stuck started didn’t really want to play until we stripped and cleaned it 👍

@@6DDIESELSDorset if you think that's bad, the 6.2/6.5L was developed by Detroit Diesel to replace a 5.7L Oldsmobile diesel based around a gas engine. When they enlarged the 6.2 to 6.5 and added a turbo, they started breaking cranks, blocks, head bolts, overheating, breaking starters off....
