    If you don't want to jack up the house, you could also replace the sill plate in between the beams (by cutting out the rotted sill plate in between the beams). Then secure the new piece of sill plate to the concrete. Then attach a new beam to the healthy part of the old beam and rest it on the new sill plate.

    • @chrisa6965
      @chrisa6965 Год назад +1

      @@andrewrossnagel9433 If you can't drill down vertically, you can use a steel plate (like a Simpson Strong Tie) to secure the sill plate to the foundation horizontally. That's what the earthquake retrofit contractors did to my house in some spots.

    • @andrewrossnagel9433
      @andrewrossnagel9433 Год назад

      @@chrisa6965 Yeah I considered those but my basment is pretty big so it would cost a lot of money. Seems silly to spend $200 on PT wood and $1000 on plates lol. I am doing total renovation so I am considering drilling through the bottom plate on exterior walls with a long bit. I can probably hit a thunder stud in with a piece of rebar/threaded rod from where I drilled.

Lol I have a sloping floor on 2nd level and on the same wall of chimney and its driving me nuts. I'm becoming scared yearly believing its a severe structural issue. I had new roof installed and chimney repaired years ago to ensure that no water issues entered my walls but this had no impact on the sloping floor. If ANYONE can send me a link, how to repair this issue or a minimum, how to create a temporary wall below so that above can be opened to view, I would be soooooooo grateful. Thank you. Maria

    • @jeremylakenes6859
      @jeremylakenes6859 3 года назад +6

      @@cmnr8487 well, it looked like he had crumbly bricks for a foundation wall. Not easy to anchor to that. If it were concrete he could drill in and epoxy some anchors, but for it to hold like it should, you’d have to strip your siding so you could nail your exterior plywood sheeting to the sill plate so it ties into the structure.
      Many times saving an old house is like this “it’s lasted 80 years this way. Let’s fix these main issues and it’ll function like it has for another 80.”

  • @hickeyma123
    @hickeyma123 2 года назад

    Those notches for electrical on the sister joists are not up to code. you would unfortunately need to pull the electrical and re-run romex via drilled holes in your new sister joist. Also I think code requires holes must be 2 inch above edges of joist. Also, while pulling wire you'd want to double check that those runs are on the first 3rd of the joist as also a code requirement and many old homes have the runs right smack in the middle of the joist. More work yes, but it's the correct way...
