I installed my printer originally with HP+. Six months later I found out that I was stuck with using original HP cartridges only. I called customer support and they had no way to do a factory reset. I filed a complaint through the Better Business Bureau and HP decided to replace my printer. I just got my replacement and followed this video to be free from HP. Thanks a lot.
Thank you! This was so helpful. I knew there was something to be aware of when setting up my new printer, and to avoid activating HP+. Very clear steps....thank you.
THANK YOU I moved my printer to a new room and could not get it to find wifi with the HP+ statement up! Upon canceling via your video I was able to see the Home Screen for my printer and therefore able to reconnect to wifi. I could not find the support for this through HP (I had no blue light whatsoever therefore HP Smart was not finding my printer) big sigh of relief!! Thanks!
This is is very helpful. I am setting up the printer today and will follow these steps for setup. Doing this setup like this means that I do not need to download the app on phone or go to there website on my computer right?? I do not want set up using a phone app at all. Can I print and scan with the printer directly hardwired only and no app download on computer or app?
Great video! Very helpful! However, I did setup my HP 8020 printer and activated HP+. Now, it seems that I am stuck 😢😢😢 with it. How can I factory reset my HP printer and deactivate HP+ as well? Your help will be very much appreciated. Thanks
Have a little different model of printer, HP LaserJet Pro 4001ne and I get no question mark or cancel option at all. Is there possible a hidden cancel option somewhere?
I'm glad I watched this before setting my 7255e up. I didn't install the software. Then I set updates to notify (there was no 'OFF'). Then I set up wifi (why do I keep mis-typing that as 'wife'?), where I turned it on (ah, there's my answer)and then held down the button on my modem for a minute, did whatever other bumfluffery was required and tried printing from my iPad Pro using airprint which worked but can't print to fit, so via the print to fit app for 3 bucks on the app store now I can. But only from my photos. Maybe there's an app that will print to fit pdfs but for now it does what I need and I didn't download any nonsense or subscribe to anything. Hoping I can just buy cartridges as and when and print away forever. So thanks for posting this and saving me from all the nightmares I read about before plugging it in (phew!)!
I like to know if you can setup wifi AND usb on HP printer? I need both for iPhone printing (wifi) and transferring files trough scaner directly from printer to Mac (usb cable). Thanks
Dang you get a cancel option? My 4101 at work gives no ability to select anything besides "okay" and then stays stuck on pairing until you either pair it or power it down
i just installed a HP M140we yesterday at a friend, took me 3 hours trying to avoid this HP+ crap that was giving an error and could not register the printer to an HP account. There was no way around it, the printer had a blinking exclamation mark and would not work (print or scan) no matter what... After some hours and many tries with the laptop and multiple phones , finally the printer registered to a hp account and worked. Absolute crap from HP. Printer had only a small 2 digit display. The software had no way of avoiding that.
yes same to me, i will never buy an HP product in my life again, just for the time i just wanted a simple print and it took my hours to do so because of this hp account stuff !
I reset my 5200 (which there is no "factory reset" option available) i had to hit the back button 4 times slowly and a hidden reset menu popped up. Even if the back button isn't lit up its still technically there, hit that sucker 4 times slowly and you should get your hidden reset menu. If that doesn't work alternate between the back button and the top button(not the middle) hope that helps
This is a horrible product. I have spent over two days trying to set it up and even bought additional cartridges as I needed a printer today. All I want is to buy a printer, set it up and print. My HP from 25 years ago was fine. I want to smash this one. What's wrong with the people at HP?
I tried this on my HP Officejet 8015e. The printer setup gets through without HP+ activation. However, when I try to print anything, it says Printer setup Incomplete and doesn't print anything. In fact it goes into 'Cancelling' state endlessly until rebooted by power button. Then cycle repeats..
A heads up to those who are here because they cannot exit the pairing code screen. After talking with HP support, that means that your device is required to be paired through the smart+ pairing. I asked them what my options were and was told to call sales support and they would give me the models that do not require Smart setup as they do NOT list anywhere in advertising or on the product information sheet that this is required. This is a huge mistake by HP as my entire company is now starting the process of removing HP and going with another brand and would expect others with IT teams to follow the same.

Thank you so much! I was stuck on one of these screens and didn't know how to continue.
Brilliant. I just purchased an alternate printer (happens to be HP too) to get out from under their control if needs be

I need this answer too. I no issue using official HP ink, but not paying for a monthly/page fee which is obscene.

Did you ever figure this out? Same issue here.

For those with a Mac and a HP8028e is it possible to set up scanning function without HP+? It appears not...
I have the same question.

Same here but a different model with no screen at all. Refused to print anything. This is absolute fucking bullshit from HP and should be illegal.
@@zehpalhares3992 Avoid any HP printer model ended with e to force you join HP+
Why does the hp officejet pro 9015e continually go offline?
What if your printer does not have a screen?
How do I reset the printer so I Can do this?

I tried to disable the way it said too and still get the error message
Is there any way of turning off hp plus after activating it? I clicked yes without really knowing what it was

Mine just started doing this too. I think it's an update they snuck in there that doesn't let us bypass it. Goddamn vampires.
Thank you so much

lol the printer is setup ok, but cant print unless making n HP account
I already hate this printer as the software is confusing and it’s ready for the baseball bat.
