  • Join me on my first explore along the Leicester and Swannington Railway. built by George and Robert Stephenson in 1832 the line opened in 1833 making it by far the oldest railway I have explored. The incline is one of its highlights as it was finally abandoned in 1947 it is now a protected area and open to visitors. This is a fascinating start to this very old railway.
There will be more to come from this line including Stephenson Tunnel in Leicester and Newbold Tunnel near Ashby de la Zouch, two of the oldest railway tunnels in the world and the site of the first ever railway excursion with no other than Thomas Cook!
Loads still to see on this line so enjoy!
