Nice explore mate! I can shed a little light on some of the things you spotted. That concrete post on its side was indeed a signal post. This would have been one of the many intermediate block working colour lights on the section between Leicester and Rugby. It would have carried an LNER pattern colour light head, much like the one at Rushcliffe Halt on the preserved GCR north. The other concrete parts nearby would have carried the wooden battery/relay cabinet alongside. The second one with the ladder would have been the same. A little way back towards Ashby Magna is the concrete base of Ashbys down distant colour light (it was there in 2018 but is probably well buried now!!). There are also a number of concrete 'CABLE' markers on the down side, not far from the brick built occupation bridge that precedes Dunton Bassett tunnel. Top explore as always 👍👍

Thank you for watching and your kind comments. Thanks also for shedding some light on the various items found. Bit is sometimes difficult to visualise what was there but this helps. More gcr videos on the way!

That was utterly fascinating, well done to you all for pushing on through and "surviving". I went that way from the Platelayers Hut, after visiting Dunton Bassett Tunnel, a couple of years ago, but ran out of light so didn't get as far as you did. Looking forward to part two immensely.

A huge mistake closing this section, up there with the Woodhead Route closure. Great explore as always 👍🚂

Thanks for watching. Yes it would be invaluable now but the decision was made in another time with no thought for the future.

Great video. It's especially interesting as it's so close to where I live. The bridge with the lattice still in tact is amazing!

Thanks Andy. That bridge made the walk, crawl, thorns, falls and sunburn all worthwhile! Still some gems to be found that have been long forgotten.

so sad to see it like this -- I remember it as a working line but my fondest memories are of me and my friends riding old British bikes along it when it was first closed-----cutting a path through the gravel ballast, stopping at the old deserted stations to eat our sandwiches --even racing the cars alongside on the M1 ----Leicester to Rugby on the GCR --- on a BSA Shooting Star dirt tracker ---- the M6 link cut across it in the end ,but we got to climb the enbankment and ride down it before it was a road ! The bikes running up and down the old track flattened the ballast into a pleasant path for walkers. Adventure playground where I learnt lessons so valuable in a lifetime's motorcycling

Thank you for watching and sharing some fantastic memories if this often forgotten part of the gcr. I have never really understood why they didn't make ut a walk/cycle way it would have been glorious

Ooh not sure if you've been to the museum at Lutterworth to view their old photos and model of the railway really good to see they've got some interesting pieces in the folder there I've walked the site at Lutterworth before i cant believe aling the line how much of the stations was just left to basically rot it's astonishing and a shame always enjoy seeing your railway adventures 😎🚂

Thanks as always for watching. I haven't been to the museum but will try and get there. Always so much to see on this old line. Lots more videos from the gcr and other local lines coming up. Thanks for your support.

Nice! There are things you found I haven't seen on other explores. The culvert, bridge with the lattice still in place, remains of signals...cracking stuff, and so sad. Had a look on the map and the GC Way misses out this section for some reason. I think it should be included, though not tarmacked.

Thanks for watching. Lots of treasures have survived! I think the walk should have gone all the way from Lutterworth to Leicester it would have been a lovely way now.

Another fascinating GCR explore, amazing how nature takes over a disused railway, many thanks for bringing us all your GCR videos to see what remains today.

Hiya Great Video your doing - @ 6:01 My nearest abandon Railway is the Monsal Trail here in Derbyshire (Which used to be a Midland Railway line until it closure in1968) & now you can walk & cycle along it & yes I have found bit of Coal which had fallen of the Tenders along the M. T. as well!!! @ 10:25 also on the M. T. in a few places you can find (Still standing) a few communication Telegraph Poles!!! 😉🙂🚂🚂🚂

@@MiddyExplores Oh yes - Very accessible!!!! Not a bush or a tree in sight (meaning not along the Track bed (accept at the far end of Millers Dale Station but you can easily just walk around it!!!) Only Tree & bushes along the side where they belong!!! Many Tunnels, Viaduct & Stations to Explore!!!) 😉🚂🚂🚂

Epic Buddy. Such a shame what's left of our railway history. But us explorers will still find etc. Some Overgrown areas of GCR my ways as well as unaccesable tunnels.
[Only Urbexers Dare to enter] Great Video as usual Pal. Hope you and your good wife well.
    Kind Regards.

Closing the GCR Line was the worst of all the Beeching closures etc. The GCR Line built to European Loading Gauge and could have allowed Eurostar trains to run from France via London to the North etc.
Look at the high specification of infrastructure on the GCR, the quality of construction second to no other railway built in Britain. The GCR was not only suitable for high speed passenger trains but could handle the demands of heavy freight. The GCR should never have been closed!

    • @MiddyExplores
      @MiddyExplores  8 дней назад

Thanks for watching and I totally agree with you it was the most shortsighted closure. That line would be so useful today.

Another excellent and informative Middy Explores production! I dare anyone to play the “survivor” drinking game with this one 😂 Seriously though, some very interesting finds along the way, all nicely documented. Some branded t-shirts or other merchandise is a possibility that you may want to explore sometime depending on the growth of the channel. I’d certainly wear a Middy Explores t-shirt or sip my cuppa from a Middy Explores mug!

Thank you David I am glad you enjoyed it. The survivor thing is really odd I don't remember saying it on the day but when I did the edit it was apparent 😂 there is merchandise on the way over the winter as I finally push to get the channel bigger (and I stay healthy!) mugs will be first then probably t shirts so keep posted!

Thanks for watching. What I try to portray to everyone is the fact it's not all like the railway at Loughborough which gives the impression it could be opened tomorrow! Not much left between Lutterworth and rugby but more videos coming up.
