@@tumi_mose sorry my friend, steve lacey doesnt come close to leroy hutson not even in a million years, this right here is on another level, rather on another dimension.
Omg, listen to how his voice just flows like honey against the beat. And the Lil break in it. And I have to say I came upon the brother in the late 80s. OH YEAH, I ALMOST FORGOT WHILE I REPLIED IN THE 1S PLACE I AGEE WITH YOU FAM. HE IS VERY UNDERRATED AND ALMOST FORGOTTEN. TV ONE SHOULD DO AN UNSUNG ON HIM
I loved growing up in the seventies and wish I’d listened a little harder ❤ being a white boy in an English city held the love of soul music down a little but it’s all here in my heart and soul right now forever ❤
LEROY HUTSON IS A NATURAL, SONGWRITER, ARRANGER, VOCALIST, HE DOES IT ALL. HIS WORK WITH HIS COLLEGE ROOMMATE, DONNIE HATHAWAY, LED TO HATHAWAY'S FIRST HIT AND HE SEAMLESSLY REPLACED MR. CURTIS MAYFIELD WITH THE IMPRESSIONS. HE JUST NEVER GOT HIS DUE BUT HIS MANY FANS ARE STILL GROOVING TO HIS MUSIC AND OUTSTANDING VOCALS. THANK YOU FOR THIS POST...
I absolutely love the camera capturing from 00.45 - 01:17, everything from how it glides from the corner of the stage; moving closer to Leroy Hutson. But especially check out the synchronize step in/step out movements from the dancers (simply beautiful Black Gods/Goddess in motion), then a amusing scene where the girl with the scarf did not realize that she was on camera; when she used the scarf as if it was a cigarette that she was smoking....to be honest, music like this would have made anyone feel like they were on a natural high....I just had to share this magical moment, at least to me it was....this is when black folks were proud of who they were, all that natural hair, and the love filled the room....will we ever get that back? And btw, this is my first time ever hearing this song or seeing this Soul Train performance, I did not even know who this guy was, but WOW....so glad I found another masterpiece....Peace and Blessings
I almost forgot all about this dude! U know how it is, going through life's transitions over the past 40 years, U just may forget people, places and things along the way, but I remember this dude, and this song clearly now! Thanks for bringing back great memories.
damm, Those were of the best times in music and as kid at the time I didnt know blacksoul would come to a end. they could never make or remix this today. sad just sad. what happend to our music.
+Mark Bailey The days when soul was soul and music was played by musicians. I also miss them days for sure. But hey! We still got the recordings left, and my god do they still sound so great.
I knew he was the producer for the Impressions, and stood in for Curtis right after Curtis went solo, but I never knew he had albums as a soloist. Bad Boy.
I don't think he was lip syncing, but I know for a fact that the audio being played is identical to the album version of the song. In other words, we're watching the original performance, but are definitely not listening to the original audio from the performance
Leroy is truly one of the the last of a dying breed of Soul singers who graced the golden era of Soul music, the 70's, of course Leroy goes back to the Curtom days of Curtis Mayfield, whom he replaced as lead vocalist in the impressions before going solo
Did you know that Leroy Hutson, Guy Draper and Donny Hathaway in the 1960's were known as the Mayfield Singers and actually had one hit called I've Been Trying! Check out the tune on RUclips!
I remember watching Soul Train that day with him appearing on the show... This guy has been a round for a while back in the day. He was once part of Curtis Mayfield's group "The Impressions" after Curtis left and went solo. Then later he would leave the group and go solo as well... You know for some singers its hard trying to keep a solo career going... Meanwhile this guy is a singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, and instrumentalist... He has produced other artists and has been associated with many. In your spare time listen to "Can't stay away from you" by Leroy Hutson......Very Nice!

The 70s had Hits on top of hits. That still sound good 50 years later.
Leroy Hutson 💯 was one of the underrated soul producers of the 70's good work brother. Your songs will live for ever 💯😁
It is so sad that no one makes music like this anymore
His name is Steve Lacy
Look him up
True!

@@mcking44 fair point😭
The only thing wrong with this song is that it's too short.
Too Damn short
Absolutely, this is where a loop is definitely required 💚
This cat was so underrated.....compared to other singers of his time
This one my favorites of the 70s. I don’t know what it was about this song but it made me feel some type of way... and still do today...

Just saw him live 5 days ago, he is still the same cool cat! His band was actually killing it!

This song grew on me. My older brothers used to jam this throughout our house in Brooklyn.
I like your comment: it tells a story of your household in where you lived

The live performances back then were so on point... no lip synching just raw singing like the original record. Outstanding
What in the world makes you think he isn't lip synching? Where is his band and back up singers? (IJS)
I don't think he was lip syncing, but I know for a fact that the audio being played is identical to the album version of the song. In other words, we're watching the original performance, but are definitely not listening to the original audio from the performance
he is
Maybe it's just the instrumental playing with the chorus and he probably really singing live
