It just really puzzles me beyond to a point of no return why Rufus and Chaka aren’t inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rufus along with Chaka was Rock, Funk, Soul, R&B, Fusion and more. They were very much underrated and never really got their recognition as they should. What a shame. They really played a very HUGE part in world music.
I don't know the criteria? The Doobie Bros and Depeche Mode just made it in and they've had hits for days. Barry White's not in? Guessing, they have Rufus being R&B only but then what about Chaka-Chaka-Chaka?
I am, In England, a Girl Group called Girls Aloud did their Version of "I'm Every Woman" which was also performed by Javyne HIlton who missed out on being in the Group. She sang it when she found out she didn't make the Group and although she was angry and hurt her career didn't go far. She got busted for DUI and she also broke up a marriage when she slept with another Girl Group Member's Husband and had is Baby.
People do not realize that this was produced by the legendary Quincy Jones. At least half of Rufus played on Michael Jackson's Off The Wall and Thriller. By the time this album was released they had been a band for more than a decade. Chaka is my favorite female vocalist of all time, by the way. It truly is a Masterjam.
George Nazar ok mr. George, I like Chaka but no way is she my favorite because really I have no favorites. I like a lot of them and Chaka is one of them. Secondly, if the Rufus band is so good why is it that none of their musicians, especially Bobby Watson and tony maiden are not in The Rolling Stones top 100 bass player and guitarist? If you ask me they should be. I think black musicians such as these get ignored by such publications as Rolling Stone simply because they not in a “rock” band!!!
