In the 80’s i saw Alexander 0’neil live, I even touched his schouder and at the end many people got the stage and danced while Alex was singing and also I was on the stage next to him dancing, I will never forget this, he’s my favourite singer….to this day I still listen to his music and still love it as the day i first heard him…. It's just a reminder that if you list your favorite R&B/Soul hits of the 80's and 90's, Jam and Lewis alone were probably the ones behind over more than half of them! 🙌 It's like my Top 2 favorite songs of ALL time are #1) Can You Stand The Rain by New Edition, and #2).......Human by "Human League"! (Thanks for including it! 👍) They took a POP-SYNTH Group, Human League, and made a song that is 1/2 Synth! 1/2 R&B! and 100% MASTERPIECE.

Of "All time?" Really? Over Gamble and Huff, Quincy Jones, Norman Whitfield, Thom Bell, Maurice White, Arif Mardin, among many others? Even Jam and Lewis would disagree with your assessment. There are lots of great producers, no one of them able to claim being the greatest of all time. They all do what they do, often influencing each other.
Have you really looked at their catalog? They have more hits than a lot of those you mentioned combined. Their sound is impeccable. Pure r n b for the 80’s and on. You have to be able to appreciate their sound and accomplishments achieved. I can’t even begin to get into the amount of folk they made stars. But even jam and Lewis will acknowledge they learned a lot of their craft from Leon Sylvers III. He was another master of pure r n b.

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Nicholas Ashford & Valarie Simpson, The Brothers Johnson and also James Mtume were some of the greatest song writers of R&B during the late 70's and throughout the 1980's. Their sound is what kept the R & B radio stations hopping and the clubs jumping during the weekend, and the 12 inch extended singles (the disco versions of the 1970's) being purchased on Monday's from the neighborhood record stores. They made your family reunion picnic at the park and your backyard bbq taste that much better as their sounds blasted through that JVC 4 speaker boom box that you just couldn't do without on any warm spring day or a hot summer's night weekend if you weren't out clubbing! Their music was heaven sent! These song writers would cause a person to read the entire album cover's backside, inner slip cover, and label of an album of anything they had something do with and just like the song by The S.O.S. Band, "I just Can't Get Enough"!!

It's just a reminder that if you list your favorite R&B/Soul hits of the 80's and 90's, Jam and Lewis alone were probably the ones behind over more than half of them! 🙌 It's like my Top 2 favorite songs of ALL time are #1) Can You Stand The Rain by New Edition, and #2).......Human by "Human League"! (Thanks for including it! 👍) They took a POP-SYNTH Group, Human League, and made a song that is 1/2 Synth! 1/2 R&B! and 100% MASTERPIECE.

I was in a HBCU, Kentucky State University when this good music came out. This duo wrote so many songs for other artists. They deserve more credit than what they get.

Of "All time?" Really? Over Gamble and Huff, Quincy Jones, Norman Whitfield, Thom Bell, Maurice White, Arif Mardin, among many others? Even Jam and Lewis would disagree with your assessment. There are lots of great producers, no one of them able to claim being the greatest of all time. They all do what they do, often influencing each other.
Have you really looked at their catalog? They have more hits than a lot of those you mentioned combined. Their sound is impeccable. Pure r n b for the 80’s and on. You have to be able to appreciate their sound and accomplishments achieved. I can’t even begin to get into the amount of folk they made stars. But even jam and Lewis will acknowledge they learned a lot of their craft from Leon Sylvers III. He was another master of pure r n b.

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Nicholas Ashford & Valarie Simpson, The Brothers Johnson and also James Mtume were some of the greatest song writers of R&B during the late 70's and throughout the 1980's. Their sound is what kept the R & B radio stations hopping and the clubs jumping during the weekend, and the 12 inch extended singles (the disco versions of the 1970's) being purchased on Monday's from the neighborhood record stores. They made your family reunion picnic at the park and your backyard bbq taste that much better as their sounds blasted through that JVC 4 speaker boom box that you just couldn't do without on any warm spring day or a hot summer's night weekend if you weren't out clubbing! Their music was heaven sent! These song writers would cause a person to read the entire album cover's backside, inner slip cover, and label of an album of anything they had something do with and just like the song by The S.O.S. Band, "I just Can't Get Enough"!!
