      EVGA is my preferred brand for graphics cards, but I've had good luck with MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte cards recently, too. The 1650 Supers are all basically the same, because Nvidia makes the chips. The manufacturers tweak the clock speed and use their own coolers, but performance-wise they are all similar.

    Hey there. Nice detailed video! I had not watched your video or read your tests of power consumption prior to upgrading my friends psu. I helped him start i-racing on his Optiplex 3040. These are such odd machines, full size pci slots and the sff power supplies. However, we both purchased Dell's 315 watt psu with the 6 pin power in the exact same size psu. The only difference is the mounting screws. You simply tilt the psu and install one screw tightly! lol I didn't like adapters and leaving the original psu in. It seems like it would have been okay though. Hes running a Zotac 1650 Super Twin. Since it required the 6 pin power I figured that was the best psu to get. I have one too, but im gaming with a regular 1650 low profile in a Optiplex 7020 SFF. Except my 7020 SFF mobo has been transferred to a Optiplex 790 DT case so I could use the x16 slot and reduce temperatures. Its a long story on that one! but it works great! Keep up the great work!

    considering the fact that your PC with a 240W psu is only using like 150W with a card that uses like a 100W, i wanna ask a question that i will REALLY appreciate if you answer, i have an optiplex 7060, it has an i7-8700, 260W PSU, will it be fine in terms of power supply if im installing a gtx 1660 ti in it? Thanks again, i had no hope for installing anything more than an LP GTX 1650 inside that thing, but your close attention to the power usage is tremendously helpful, it really gave me so much hope when it was only using like a 150W with a 1650 Super, thank you! And also, what external power supply cable should I use if im getting a 1660 Ti for my 260W psu, i really have no idea about this power supply cable, i know that im just a few explanations away from understanding how they work lol, nevertheless, thank you in advance!

    • @EscoTech
      @EscoTech  2 года назад

      I don't think I would do a 1660 Ti with the stock power supply. There are a couple TFX power supplies that you could use for an upgrade or Dell makes a server PSU unit that would work. Your i7 8700 can use significantly more power than the CPU on this video, too. Let me know if you have any more questions.

      I have a video coming soon upgrading this PC to an i7 6700. Max power draw I saw was 208 watts from the wall with the i7, and that was a spike and not constant. Testing showed a pretty steady 180-190W during gaming. If you add in the power lost to inefficiency at 7%, the 240W PSU would show 257W at the wall while delivering 240W of power to the PC. 190/257 is 73.9% of max power. I'd be comfortable running that long term, and that's with the i7. The i5 used about 10-15W less, on average. Thanks for checking out the video!

      You should be fine with the stock PSU, as long as you're not gaming for like 8 hours a day. Pretty sure a PSU upgrade in that generation is super easy. You could look at going to an i7 or Xeon with a PSU upgrade, though. The i5 2400 might bottleneck a 1650 Super a little, but it shouldn't be too bad. Thanks for watching!

      Hey Michael, unless you have a specific purpose, 32GB RAM probably won't offer any performance increase over 16GB. You could probably save a little money there or put it toward something else. Even though Intel used socket 1151 through the 9th gen CPUs, this system can only use 6th and 7th gen CPUs. The early core i9's were all socket 2066, so even though there was a 7th gen i9, it used a different socket. The Core i7 6700 and i7 7700 are the fastest CPUs you can use in this system. It does not use ATX power supplies. It's proprietary, but is closest to a TFX standard PSU. There's probably less room for a GPU in this than the case you already have. I'd recommend trying SATA cables with right angle connectors on the motherboard. You might block some of the ports, but they should fit under a GPU and you should get a couple that are usable. Yes, you can use a single SATA to 6 pin PCI-E power adapter. The PCI-E slot will provide 75 watts, so the SATA cable should only draw 25 watts at full load. Even in my video, there are two SATA connectors, but they are on the same wire. Is there actually a RAID array initializing? That could take a while. The other two settings I'd check are the BIOS delay (adding seconds for slow initializing hardware) and the Fast Boot setting. If it's on thorough, it will take the longest to boot, minimal will be quick, but you might miss new hardware or system changes, and auto will detect any new changes and go fast if it doesn't find any. Auto is the setting I'd recommend. Thanks for watching and that's awesome you got one for free!

    Hi, thanks for the great video! Say, I bought one of these babies second hand, but the spring levered clip on the back was sent separately. Any idea how to get that thing back on? Is there a tuto somewhere? I think my clip might be missing something.

      Hmm, I've never really taken a close look at it and I don't have this system to check anymore. I would think it would be sort of obvious and if you think you are missing something, you are probably right. Without having one to look at, that might be kind of difficult to figure out what is missing. I'll see if I can find one to check. Thanks for watching!

      @@EscoTech Hey there Esco, thanks for taking the time. I bought the 7050, dunno If there is a huge difference between the 7040 vs the 7050 when it comes to the spring thingy. I fully agree though, it does look pretty obvious to the naked eye, so it must be missing something.
      Oh well, I'm gonna fix it with some good ol' tape for now :D
      Take care and stay healthy!

      @@Alexander-ix2jp I might have a 3050 at work somewhere. I'll take a look and see if I can figure out the springy-case-release thing. Wishing you a healthy 2021 and beyond, too!

    How would you remove the stock Radeon graphics card that comes with the system? Sorry, I’m new to building computers.

      No problem, flip open the bracket on the rear I/O cover that says pull, then there is a blue lever at the end of the PCI-E slot. Just lift the end of that lever up(toward the top of the PC) and pull the stock graphics card out of the slot, directly away from the motherboard. Shouldn't take too much force, but you will have to pull a little. Thanks for watching!
