    Let me say this... I am 73 years old, and began having periods at age eight... No one ever explained things to me... I'm not sure my mother actually understood, herself.... These things simply were not talked about...certainly not in public. I wish I had had the understanding and knowledge to pass the best information on to my own daughter......
    I well remember the old Kotex....mostly made of gauze, and hooked onto a belt... I remember Mom teaching me how to do the knot....
    Thankfully, young women now have access to good, healthy information.... Videos like yours go a long way towards encouraging everyone to be more open about how our bodies work....and why we were made this way... God bless.... Keep up the good work.

I know it’s not something I need to know, but I’m curious to know what she’s going through and I want to understand what she’s going through, when I ask she just says it’s a lady thing and won’t say anything else.

      Elizabeth Alanis if I may, some young females do not have parents or do not have a mom and the dad will not help out with period situations. Some don't have anyone to help them with period related issues. So, yes, the school should help but since it doesn't, it's great people can figure things out by watching a RUclips video.

There are also people that take young women which they can track you from your internet connection from tjis comment even. Just be careful. Never put your full name or age out there, especially on places like social media. Just be careful.

    I work in a supermarket, so some days I'm working on the checkout and others I'm in the deli.
    On this particular day, I was in the deli and this woman who I'm guessing was aged late 50's early 60's was accompanied by her husband and she walked up to me with some distance from her husband and whispered, "where are the pads?" and I couldn't really hear her and she began to get flustered as her husband was approaching and then I realized what she was asking me, so I took her to the isle where the tampons and pads are and she was very grateful.
    But I was kinda surprised and felt sad at how she was trying to keep it a secret. There are many years between this woman and myself, that maybe she feels she should be ashamed and secretive about her period, especially in front of her husband, but quite frankly there is nothing to be ashamed.
    Periods are natural. Period.

      Cora O'Donnell excellent story thanks for sharing !!! kinda sad but sweet lol. although.... and I could be wrong... but I'm wondering if she was embarrassed to be still needing pads at her age. usually by the time you are in your 50s it starts to die down, and if it doesn't maybe she thinks people will look at her weird lol. again I'm probably wrong but this crossed my mind as I finished reading this comment :)

    At the beginning of this video I mentioned that this video was going to be gross, and that showing my period blood was gross. This was the second video I ever did on periods on my channel and the FIRST time I have ever shared so much with such a large audience. To me back then I was taught that these things were gross, but they aren't. After over year later I have share more about periods then I ever thought I would and I am not only proud, but also happy I did because periods are not gross, period blood is not gross, and our bodies are not gross. They are all normal and nothing to be ashamed about.

      Adyms Wife well... I have hemophobia which is essentially the phobia ( extreme irrational fear) of blood. It's actually really common and some some people even faint at the sight of blood. I just feel very weak in the knees and feel my arms/legs tingle when I see blood. Period blood I'm a bit okay with but yeah blood 0-0 it's not gross per se for some people but it can be freaky to see our life source not inside you, the way it's supposed to be...

    Just some advice.. I bought the mooncup (which is exactly like the diva cup but more common in the uk) When I was 15 years old, I really liked the idea of having something that was eco friendly, reusable, safe and more comfortable than pads. I struggled with using it at first being young and 'small' plus not having a lot of experience with the anatomy down there. After a while I stopped using it because the silicone (which is pretty much the same as the one in the video) was quite thick and not flexible so while removing it it was quite painful as it would stretch, plus if you hit your urethra it is very painful. But I finally found one that works, it's made by women and I think was crowdfunded. It's called the lily cup it's made of a much softer and flexible silicon so it moulds to your shape and doesn't cause any pain while removing it. If you are young or super sensitive it might be better to try that. They have a really good website with loads of information. I'm not getting paid or anything to promote it I just wish I'd have known about this before and I love it now. I use a mixture of a menstrual cup and pads which works great for me, you just have to find what works best for you. Hope this is helpful for someone❤️

      That is so expensive!!!
      I live in Germany and payed 15€ (less than 20$) for one from a good quality German company. LESS THAN HALF OF WHAT SHE PAID. Even if I would go and order a diva cup from amazon Germany I would only pay 25€. But that’s already overpriced, as well as all the other American companies. The German ones are cheaper and their freakin german, not some cheap shit.
      Is that really all about the taxes America puts on tampons, etc??
      Well I don’t think Tampons, period cups and whatever else should be free, since someone has to pay for the production, but that price difference is just ridiculous.

    I am 63 and had a total hysterectomy when I was 33, so I am watching this video to be informed. I agree that people need to abandon the old taboos regarding speaking about bodily functions. Our bodies are miraculous and we need to take care of what we have. I wish my mom could have discussed issues with me when I was young (started my period at 10). Luckily I read a lot. I have a gross, graphic period cup experience to share.
    I was trying to take the thing out and somehow I just couldn't pull it out. I figured my muscles would only get tenser if I got anxiety because of the thought of having it stuck. So I waited a while and I really had to change it because I was late for school. I tried again and because I was in a rush I yanked it out with all my strength. Sure enough, it came out- like a champagne cork. All of the contents got everywhere.
    :)

  • @ida-maytisdale2179

    Kelli! Hi! my name is Ida-May I am writing you to say thank you.I am a 66yr old grandmother. Although I no longer have my periods,and I don't think my daughters do either, you see it runs in the family we all go thru the change early.I am so grateful for your RUclips video. Even tho I no longer have my periods and haven't had for 15 years,I have granddaughters who do. I am so anxious to hook them up to your video. This invention is a godsend. I drove a truck for 28 years and this would have been so useful. Hours of sitting and driving while bleeding is such a drag and then stopping at a public restroom to change is gross. You might find this piece of information helpful for the ladies who drive a truck. If it is ever brought to your attention you could pass this piece of information along to them that there are truck stops out their like the Flying J's and the T A's who have very clean shower rooms where they could go in and use these facilities to clean their cups. These truck stops provide shower rooms for truck drivers to bathe. Now for your information, these rooms are cleaned after every use. They have a sink, stool and a shower for the drivers convenience. This would be great for the lady drivers. These rooms are not for the public or people who are on vacation. Why I mention this to you is because you get out to the public with your videos where I am just a retired grandmother and it might come up in conversation sometime when someone is complaining about using the cup while working driving a truck. I truly enjoyed your video. I like your attitude and brusk NUS. When I first started watching I was concerned about being embarrassed, even tho I'm all alone. Silly I know. Ha!Ha! I am even going to put my grown sons onto it also as they have ladies in their lives and daughters. I agree with you periods are not something we should be embarrassed about. Their father and I were very open with each other during our marriage up until the day he died and we taught our children to be the same with their mates, in a modest way. Thanks for being there for we women of all ages.

    I really appreciate what you've done here. It's completely insane that there's so much shame attached to menstration. It's a miniscule amount amount of blood. Millions of dollars were spent to see 300; yet seeing a full diva cup is icky. What a strange world we live in.

    • @alwaysachevysilveradogirl7475
      @alwaysachevysilveradogirl7475 7 лет назад +1

      Some things in life were MEANT to be private and a woman's menstral cycle should be private. I'm not saying private as in not speaking with someone else about it if there are issues either. I'm speaking as in don't let the whole world know and that isn't in any way being shameful about it. In today's world there are ways to find out things if one needs to know about them and the main way would of course asking a professional (as in OB doc) and there is a crap-load of info on the internet and no I'm not talking about what this chick has done in this video which btw is pretty disgusting.

    • @djh4min59
      @djh4min59 7 лет назад +26

      YouNeverReallyLeft lmao well in case you hadn't noticed, this video is to inform other women what the diva cup is like, and yes it's graphic, but if you're not a woman you shouldn't be complaining. i wish i'd had this advice

    • @alwaysachevysilveradogirl7475
      @alwaysachevysilveradogirl7475 7 лет назад

    • @djh4min59
      @djh4min59 7 лет назад +16

      YouNeverReallyLeft I'm talking about young girls and teenagers who can't exactly go and ask someone and would appreciate knowing this beforehand, since you don't exactly find many pictures and information on the internet, also if you're a woman since you have to deal with all this once a month like the rest of us, you really should be fine with it

    $40 is because there's no repeat business...disposable options cost way more! Cost your health and wallet. Chemicals, risk of TSS, etc. None of that with a medical grade silicone cup. Beware China cheapies (no-name brands on Amazon) though! Materials aren't regulated the same way.

    • @bloodangelsheart
      @bloodangelsheart 8 лет назад +5

      +Heather Crandall be careful. China (and other countries) don't have any law about copying brand names. And they could not be made to the same health standards. And you wouldn't want to put something not good for you down there because it is a health hazard.

      Alyna Waters there are name brands on Amazon now. Many cups are still not US made, and 100% medical grade silicone is just that no matter where in the world its molded into a cup.

    • @alynawatersmusic
      @alynawatersmusic 7 лет назад +4

      duckduckmooses should have read "no-name brands" as it was an explanation of what China cheapies are.
      There have been reports of some if the cheap, no-name brands being made of other materials and just claiming to be medical grade silicone, which is obviously problematic. You can't tell from looking at one if it's MGS or not so it's best to buy from reputable sources that are more likely to accurately represent their goods.

At first I was hesitant about watching because you said you would show your menstrual blood and I thought how weird that was, I couldnt believe you would actually show that. I found myself rooting for you, like legitimately in my head saying "do it, do it, do it, you got this!" and also, seeing you so open about this topic - including the visuals - has made me more comfortable with it and even liberated. like you ask in your video, why does this have to be a gross, weird thing? it's not, its natural. seriously, THANK YOU! I use the diva cup, I've never worn a tampon. Hated the way it felt when I tried it. A pad girl for 20 some years and recently (4 periods ago) tried the diva cup. Liked it from the start. Can't feel it. Just the taking out suction on the cervix feels strange, slightly painful. But once you know how to properly unsuction it, you feel nothing.

    Great review. At 62 I have not had a period for 7 years, but was still curious about these cups. I was not grossed out and loved being able to see and I wish this video had been available when I started my period at 13 years of age, because my mom did not have the freedom to talk to me about this stuff. I agree that "periods" should not be the unspeakable topic...it is the cycle of life. I did not know about Thinx panties...another product I could have used for sure...I had ugly designated underwear for my periods.

And depending on what brand you get you probably spend more than $40 on that stuff every 6 months to a year.

      @@let-zmd5544 so blood comes out of your cervix. The cup fills up with the blood and when you take it out all the blood that would have gone onto the pad or tampon, is in the little cup. Then you just dump it into the toilet and wash it in the sink. If yoi have little clumps of blood, it still comes out and the cup catches it. Hope that helps.

      There's one for petite girls who've just started their period and\or they're virgins... That one might be best for you to try first if you're really going too. I'm 37 and if you were my daughter that's what I would recommend.. but I probably would first recommend pads or slim tampons too try. You have to sterilize them before and after every single time you remove it. She said she just rinses it out sometimes before putting it back in but that's asking for an infection and you don't want that. So that's why I feel that it would be easier and cleaner for a young lady too use.
      If your mom isn't talking to you about this stuff take it upon yourself and encourage your mother to do so. It's very important that your mother engage with you on these topics. You shouldn't have to resort to the internet for answers in my humblest opinion.
      *If you're still interested in the cup and If you can't find the one I'm talking about... Comment back and I'll look it up for you and reply back.

    So I just wanna say.... YOU ARE THE F*CKING BOMB.
    I have been scared of trying the diva cup for years, since it came out into stores here and I initially became curious. I want to go a more reusable route rather than waste so many tampons, and save money in the long run - but I never personally knew anyone who used the cup and had no one I could confidentially trust to ask.
    When I generally watch review videos, I have to watch 4-5 different ones before I can even begin to decide for sure if I will try it. But after this, I will be trying a diva cup on my next cycle, as well as trying out a pair of thinx panties so I can stop using panty liners (as I absolutely detest pads).
    THANK YOU SO MUCH. You are SO thorough (you answered ALL the questions, even the TMI ones that were the make-it break-it for me), as well as you are actively breaking the stigma about periods being gross and taboo and too "offensive" to talk about, BY ACTUALLY DISCUSSING IT, and on youtube nontheless! the positivity almost makes me excited to try these products in the hopes to finding what works best for me, rather than be ashamed/disgusted/feeling more inconvenienced by it than I already do.
    If I could, I would buy you a bottle of wine as a thanks! :D

      Women should know where their cervix is, and be familiar with changes that occur throughout the month. Being familiar with one's anatomy is important for your health. That includes external, and internal genitalia(and your cervix). Just like personal breast checks, women should check their genitalia as well. I'm not being gross, or inappropriate. Many women don't notice many changes that could imply a serious health concern.

      I never cut the stem off of mine either, it doesnt bother me and gives me something to grab when its gone up too far lol The only time I leak is when I first get up in the morning and its very little. Ive had 4 kids and my periods are as heavy as they come. I would go through the biggest tampons you can buy 4 every 2 hours on my heaviest days and I got tired of it. Not to mention the health risk they pose so I tried the cup and even on my heaviest day I can go at least 8 hours which is a complete win for me! lol TMI but hey haha its the truth

      OneHotMess My problem is not that it gets filled up and overflows. I think it's not opening properly anymore. I thought maybe after some time the silicone had lost the stiffness, but then I tried it with my backup cup (which I barely used) and the same thing happened. I guess I got so comfortable with it that, no matter what I do, I'm just not inserting it the right way anymore. Or maybe since now I'm almost 30 I should buy model 2.

The only thing I have to find out about is with the iud there is a little super thin string the hangs from it so the doctor can pull it out and I'm if it would break the seal or if the cup would pull at it when I pull it out.

      Yeah that would concern me too! I had an IUD for a year 10 years ago and I always could feel it!

      ItsJustKelli I don't feel mine ever. the skyla is really new and its tiny, also meant for women who haven't had a child or ever been pregnant
