Hey there, a few people have brought it to my attention that you CAN in fact get TSS from a menstrual cup, however the risk is very minimal (most cases have occurred when the cup was used improperly or left in for too long.) Here is some more info from Saalt if you would like to read more: www.saaltco.com/blog/how-to-prevent-tss/
My flow is too heavy for more than two hours on the first few days. HOWEVER, my cup has changed my sleeping game while on my period! I put on an overnight pad and put in my cup and I can move around during my sleep without waking up every time I need to flip over.
I’m so glad you did a video on this!! It’s sooo freaking important to break the taboo and talk about periods. You made so many good points about the pros and cons of cups, but one thing is you can actually still get toxic shock syndrome from a cup. It’s still intravaginal protection and could be a potential growth medium for staph aureus (which causes TSS). The problem is that cups allow oxygen to enter into the canal and that potentiates the growth of the bacteria. I still don’t think this should scare anyone away. It’s super important to do your own research and come to an educated decision on what you think is best for your body. I’ve been using the diva cup since 2016 and I LOVE IT. Like, it changed the way I menstruate in such a positive way. I used the thinx underwear and that didn’t work at all for me. There are things about the diva cup I’m not totally crazy about, but they’re not so bad where I feel like I need a different cup, pad etc. Anyways, thanks for making this video!
Thanks for the correction! From what I read there have only been a few reported cases of TSS from a cup, and they either happened when the cup was used improperly (left in for days at a time) or when there was some sort abrasion in the vagina. But it sounds like more data needs to be collected to determine how high the risk actually is. I don't think it's a concern as long as they're being used/cleaned as directed but yes everyone should do their own research for sure! I am so glad the Diva cup has been working for you!
I have an IUD and my doctor doesn’t recommend any method for period management, but I can see that she’s most happy with my choice of external methods 😊 (cloth pads & period underwear)
I really appreciate the thought and thoroughness that you put into this video, especially the Put A Cup In It resource. I did just want to speak on your suggestion to use a handicap restroom to change out the cup. As someone who is married to a person who is paralyzed, it really isn’t ok for those of us who are “able bodied” to use the restrooms intended for those who need them. The reason for this is actually very practical. People with mobility impairments often have neurological issues on top of space issues when using the restroom. It’s actually something that my husband runs into often, people using the handicap restroom who don’t actually need it. Again, I really appreciate all the work you put into your videos. You’re one of my favorite youtubers. 😊
this was so helpful and perfect timing for me!! i'm about to get my iud out and really don't wanna go back to the diva cup. it never worked well for me either. was thinking about the saalt after sam's review, but this definitely confirmed the positive reviews i've seen!
Had a hysterectomy after my son was born, but am wondering if my daughter might like cups. Thank you for sharing your story! I wish my generation had the internet like it is today when I was starting out.
@@angie8110 give it a go 🙂 I went straight from pads to using a cup a few years ago and I'll never look back. I couldn't stand tampons but cups are so different once you get the hang of them. The biggest help for me was to insert and remove while squatting in the shower during the learning phase.
First off, thanks for sharing your experience! Very informative and much needed. My first cup is the Diva cup too and I like it for almost a year. Never perfect, got leaks here and there but the overall convenience and comfort got me sold. But then last month, oh my goodness. It took me almost 15 minutes to have it open. Sorry TMI but, I felt like my vagina was sore from all the attempts to have it sealed with different insert techniques that usually works for me. It maybe also because I am not fully relaxed and have to hurry up and pick up my preschooler but even the last attempt was not fully sealed. And I just hope it will “self-correct” as I walk. I read that cups should be replaced every year because it’s considered a medical device. Well it’s almost over a year for me. But I am trying different brand now. I just bought the Saalt duo pack. Hope it works well for me 🤞.
Thanks so much for the amazing video. I have the same issues with the Diva cup as you had, after working with it for over a year. I definitely want to try this one now!!
Hi Sarah! Thanks for the great video. It’s so nice to hear about the experiences other people have with cups. I have found that the best way to deal with that residual blood between changes is to just wipe right underneath the cup with a little bit of TP once it’s inserted. Hope that helps! 😊
@@SarahRoseBeauty I run into that problem in public, but after installing a bidet at home, just giving a bit of a well-aimed spray clears the residue really well.
This is awesome that you did this. I have the birth control implant after the IUD caused me a lot of problems after I had my son. So thankfully I don’t get a period at all anymore. I was couponing at the time so I have so many pads & tampons that I was able to send to project beauty share. But if I ever go off the implant (which I doubt because it’s solved my extremely painful periods, but if I had to for some reason...I would definitely consider trying this cup. It’s so much more economical
Thank you for this video. I also stumbled across PACII YT and website, and took the quiz and the soft Saalt was also recommended to me. I also started with the divacup and had been using it for about 3 years. However the last two cycles I’ve been having leaks. I bought the soft duo pack from the Saalt website and hopefully this works better for me. The Divacup (model 2) was great, but for whatever reason since my cervix is now suddenly sitting lower, the Divacup length/size doesn’t seem to work as well. Crossing my fingers the Saalt is my “Goldilocks”. When I do have to change it in public, I wash my hands and take wet napkins with me in the stall to wipe down the sides of the cup.
i think actually cups can make your period shorter by creating that suction, thus reducing cramps and encouraging shed, and it could seem “heavier” as a result of this.
This is helpful! I used and loved a cup for years, but it no longer fit after giving birth to my daughter. I'll have to explore some of these newer options!
Cups are great, but personally, I prefer discs. I used to use cups and the suction was so strong. That's why I prefer my ziggy disc. It's so much more comfortable.
I hated the diva cup too. I’m plus size but my anatomy is that I have a narrow and high cervix. I chose the Lena after much research and love it very much. My flow is so heavy that my heavy days need the cup emptied out every 5 hours. That is still better than with tampons where I could bleed through a super in two hours.
this was such a helpful and informative video thank you so much! my saalt soft cup arrives tomorrow and I’ve never been more excited to get my period hahah
