This is the first chess game I memorized when I was a kid. When we had guests at home, I'd bring the chessboard and show this game. And everytime I did so, I got so excited. Good old days...
Some people are happy to see king move in the end. This is like showing “when my king gets into action then you are doomed” rather than showing “my king will hide in the corner and defeat you with my army only” 😂
I remember hearing in a Seirawan lecture that Lasker was an engineer by trade and saw it as better to accomplish the same thing (#) with one piece (Kd2) rather than two (O-O-O), but I'm not sure if that's true.

Fun fact about Lasker (Edward) - very proficient mechanical and electrical engineer. I think to a certain extant he inspired the Harry Beltik character in "Queen's Gambit", who was a good-but-not-great chess player and was studying to become an electrical engineer.
Тhis is a genius game. Тhank you for this party. I played chess 25 years ago and now I teach my kids to play chess. I saw this game when a was child but I didn't know who played this game. I have been looking for this game for 4 years. Thank you very, very, very much.
Showed this to my cat .... She is still playing chess it's been 10 hours , I asked her and she said she's just brushing up the openings.. thanks agadmator
Edward Lasker's book: The Adventure of Chess is amazing. I strongly recommend to everyone. The stories he personally witness about Emmanuel Lasker, Capablanca and Alekhine are amazing.
"Edward Lasker was a distant relation to Berthold and Emanuel. Despite the common name and a mutual friendship, Edward was unaware of his relation to Emanuel until Emanuel showed a family tree to Edward. Edward's best tournaments were his Paris, London, NYC, and Chicago city championships, his multiple US Open Championships, and his showing in the 1924 New York tournament. Edward was a tough match for any player in the world at his best."
I see you've put quotation marks around all that. What's your source, if you don't mind me asking? (And thank you for that information. I hope agadmator sees it.)
I had the good fortune of playing a game with Edward in the late 1970’s at the Manhattan Chess Club. He was such a wonderful gentleman with many contributions to chess and society at large.
If I saw that ending position out of context of the game I would have accused the person of making it up. This is beautiful. Seeing the Dark King stroll into opponent's territory, attacked on every move, only for the light king to move once and end the game, revealing that regicidal rook, is absolutely poetic. Awesome game. Thank you for reuploading Agadmator, I don't think I would have seen this game if you had not!
The most difficult part was to decide whether to go for Kd2# or O-O-O#, he barely survied that limit of 5 mins and played Kd2# in rush when realized only 5 seconds left to meet that 5 mins limit.
This is acutally the first game Agad analyzed in the style he does now. Before that it was a lot of "top 10 Kasparov facts" and all that. You can see how primitive it was in the beginning, even featuring the engine and no Medo or Tal in the video. It's insane to see how far this dude has come in all these years.
I only realized that I had already seen your previous video once the king was about halfway through his march. That said, I enjoyed it again a second time and I'm glad I watched it twice.
Absolutely spectacular game!! I'm amazed that I've never seen it before over the past few years as I consume lots of chess history. Thank you for the background story. I too aim to one day become a "chestmaster." hahaha

I must have told 4 or 5 people about this game when i started playing chess .. it still fascinates me to this day . And the respect from Lasker for not playing 0-0-0# shows how classy these players were
Undoubtedly the best checkmate I have ever seen. A Queen sacrifice followed by forcing the King all the way from the bank rank to the first. It can hardly get any more satisfying than that. It's the sort of thing that people who set chess problems would like to invent. But it happened in real-time competitive play, which counts for far more in my book.
Imagine reaching the quarter finals of wimbledon, being a 21 time All-england badminton champion and a 2 time british chess champion. What a successful career!
I met Edward Lasker. He died in the 1980s. He was friends with former World Champion Emanuel Lasker. The fact that the a1 rook checkmated the enemy king without ever being moved really shows that it was supporting his team in spirit.
