I can't decide which I love more: - The animation and voice work. - Freckle's aunt's reaction. - Rocky somehow dislocating both of his arms. - Freckle's face of pure innocence and cuteness.
Yeah, Nina was a staunch, stern woman but she probably had to be that foreboding just to vaguely raise this child and keep him from becoming a complete nightmare to all who beheld him! I just hope it gave her more appreciation for her own son even though Freckle so often got roped into Rocky's shenanigans lol.

Last time I checked the comic he probably suffered a traumatic brain injury but it didn't make much difference. He just has that cockroach level life force.
The question of how Rocky survived childhood without having to be locked in a padded room will live rent-free in my head until I can evict it with an answer.
Keep in mind that while he is foolhardy, Rocky is still highly intelligent. You don't get to be a violin player or quoting Shakespeare, or debating the merits of dadaism with freaking Mordecai, by being stupid. Remember also, in the pilot, it's Rocky who guides the crew to the quarry, and he's the one who runs off to find not just explosives but a bullet-proof platform to launch it from. Rocky's not strategically sound, no, but he's a terrifyingly good tactician. Getting locked in a padded room was reserved for those who lacked control over their emotions or people who couldn't adequately deal with reality. Rocky managed to get a 'proper' musical education and he learned to think on his feet. Tl;dr: he's not crazy, he's just smart in a weird way and evolved to survive craziness around him.

It still hurts, but emotions can be a big factor. Aaaaand the adrenaline numbs everything at least for a bit, maybe he had a second shock after it started to hurt again and he realized he couldn't hide it any longer
i'd like to debunk this as i personally have experience. as a guy who has dislocated his arm several times, to the point i couldn't even throw a punch without it popping out lol. it doesn't hurt. uncomfortable yes, but 0 pain. actually its funny the pain i ever experienced was only ever after the fact, change of weather, general soreness stuff like that. i do howeevr want to point out, my dislocations was not a rotator-cuff issue but a labral tear, meaning my shoulder was unstable because my tendon was fucked. so a rotator cuff is like a bone i guess, i can't imagine that would feel very good. yes i know i know it's a cartoon it doesn't matter all make belief but i felt i needed to point it out anyway random stranger.
He might have CIPA Disease. It's a genetic thing that makes people unable to feel pain. And as a person who dislocated their arm, it is painful even when it dangles around.

As much a herald of chaos as Rocky is, it's so nice to see his cousin is still loyal to him through thick and thin. Also, Michael is amazing, he needs to act in mainstream animation.
Everytime I think about animated Lackadaisy, I have to pinch myself to remember I’m not dreaming. Favorite things: Rocky’s head waggles, Nina’s line delivery, Freckle’s pigeon-toed initial stance. So much character is packed into each frame and moment.
I just realized kind of a... dark, side to this. For all the antics rocky caused throughout his childhood, and his aun't still let him live with them, cared for him... what did this man do to be disowned? O.,o
If it weren't for the animated short, I wouldn't have known about the comic book, and my God it's so well done, each painting looks like it took days to complete, I admire it so much
So proud of the Lackadaisy Team's achievement to reach this far. This decade so far has been brutal and lackluster when it came to animation, well not exactly, there's still lots of people who are fighting for what animation as a medium and artform stands for when telling stories.
I really love the aesthetic this series is going for. The slight blur around the outlines along with the rough marks adds so much depth, it's really gorgeous.

It's not much, but want to say thanks for the incredible animation. I love this Rocky and Freckles short. I relate to them, especially, Rocky. I wish my godfather, George was still here so I could show him this. He would have been 98 if he made it to his birthday this September. I remember him talking about what he experienced and witnessed as a kid during the late 1920's and 1930's in rural Illinois and his grandparents that lived in St. Louis at the time and visiting them. I remember this one story he talked about when he was a kid was told about this one neighbor of theirs that during World War One this man heard pilots in Europe were using something new called "parachutes" and got on ledge of the roof his small house and tried to do the same thing and ended up breaking an arm. I always thought that story was interesting which reminded me of Mary Poppins and this Lackadaisy short reminded me the story.
That's such an interesting connection, and a nice window into history! I'm glad he was able to tell you those stories about his childhood, sorry for your loss.
Why is the animation so impeccable. The backgrounds are studio Ghibli good and the characters are so fluid, unique and vibrant. You guys are making an animation for the ages, your work is amazing. I'm just itching to see the entire season
Rocky handling the pain like a champ. I’ve dislocated my right arm before and it felt like all my nerves were on fire. Haven’t dislocated it since. I’ve heard dislocations after the first aren’t as painful…

As someone who's dislocated both shoulders in the past (unintentionally), I can say that Rocky has an insanely high pain tolerance!

I remember him talking about what he experienced and witnessed as a kid during the late 1920's and 1930's in rural Illinois and his grandparents that lived in St. Louis at the time and visiting them.
I remember this one story he talked about when he was a kid was told about this one neighbor of theirs that during World War One this man heard pilots in Europe were using something new called "parachutes" and got on ledge of the roof his small house and tried to do the same thing and ended up breaking an arm.
I always thought that story was interesting which reminded me of Mary Poppins and this Lackadaisy short reminded me the story.
That's such an interesting connection, and a nice window into history! I'm glad he was able to tell you those stories about his childhood, sorry for your loss.

Why is the animation so impeccable. The backgrounds are studio Ghibli good and the characters are so fluid, unique and vibrant. You guys are making an animation for the ages, your work is amazing. I'm just itching to see the entire season
