I have used Ditto for 11 months and love it! Splicing to cut larger pieces is easy. The white line is easier to see than black from standard projectors. My custom fit has eliminated standard pattern adjustments like full bust and rounded upper back. Huge time saver there too. If you cannot leave a projector setup 24/7, Ditto only takes minutes to assemble and disassemble. It's also renter friendly, nothing gets attached to walls or ceilings.
I'm glad someone with actual experience with projector sewing gave this a review in earnest. To be honest, I already knew what you were going to say. It wasn't hard to glean that this was the reality for the Ditto. I have a bit of experience in the software development world and know a lot of people in the industry. Ditto feels like a product developed by people who don't actually know the use cases of sewists and are managed by people who just want subcriptions. The BYOP beta seems very, very weak. The fact that it also requires a subscription to use is repugnant. An $800 device that you don't own and can't use freely borders on unethical.
I´m so glad I found you, I was investigating Ditto and was on the fence with buying one and looking to see if anyone still uses it after a while. You convinced me to go with a regular projector even though I don´t know anything about them. I figure I can learn how to use the hardware and software. Thank You
I bought mine on sale at JoAnn's for $499. I haven't taken it out of the box, and I was assured I could return it any time. I'm going to return it. The Golden Rule system is much easier to use and doesn't require a subscription to get patterns. You get a whole bunch of them when you get the kit, and you can purchase additional designs that usually contain 10+ patterns, and you add them to a physical notebook they provide in the original kit. No programs are needed or electricity. You can make patterns on a desert island!
This is a thorough review, the learning curve for DIY is too much for me and will gladly pay for convenience (as I am blessed enough to be able to get one right now and I think that is who ditto markets too are ppl like me who dabble) but I waited for it to go on sale. As someone who has multiple hobby’s I want easy button, not hours upon hours of learning this procedure and multiple programs that I have to reteach myself if I don’t use it for a couple months because life gets in the way. There is a market for Ditto and DIY projectors. I knew you were going to say you preferred your DIY, feel that was biased as you have dedicated much time and resources to DIY projection and would shoot your left foot to spite your right for obvious reasons. Videos take time and thank you for doing that. I hope the view helps your ratings.
Yes, I absolutely agree that the Ditto is right for some! I completely understand that DIY sewing projectors can seem overwhelming for some too. It’s important that people know what they are getting and are not disappointed after purchasing a non-returnable product (once opened). This is definitely just my opinion and conclusion, but someone else might have a different conclusion. I did give the Ditto an honest try though, and it just didn’t do what I needed in my sewing room. Thanks for watching and your comment!
I agree. I have the Golden Rule pattern maker, and it works great. And, no subscription or even electricity is required I'm returning my unboxed DITTO tomorrow.
Thank you for this video. I have the Ditto on back order from my local sewing store and had a $500 gift card to use. I have been interested in projector sewing for a little while but have been intimidated so I figured this was a good way to get my feet wet so to speak. I’m glad your video came up on my algorithm and have signed up for your course with the discount code (thanks for that) so I can learn more and decide whether to get a DIY set up as well. Since I retired, I have more time to play and I have been using paper patterns as this is what I understand.
Definitely a place for both but like you, I much prefer all the advantages of my DIY set up. I trace a lot of Burda patterns from their magazine as they seem to fit my body shape. Yes, it is a learning curve and it does take some extra time but I'm happy with my set up and I would hate to have to start splicing as much as I have a larger cutting area. Also I like playing pattern tetris so moving multiple pattern pieces around before cutting out to get the most of my fabric is also something that I prefer. Great review of the system and for those that want a quick and straightforward set up, I'm sure it will appeal and as long as they enjoy their hobby - everyone has the choice. Thank you for taking the time to video the review as I found it very informative.
Ohhhhh Myyyyy "G" under What Rock have I been hiding that I have never Ever heard of this new Sewing TREND!!!... Tell Me more, Tell Me moooreee😂😂😂. I just came across the Ditto Today and I was THIS CLOSE 👐 in purchasing it. I said to "G" Thank-U Lord for answering my Prayers...BUT Then I Opened up my Trusty Encyclopedia called YT 😊 and saw all the Bad Reviews about it. I decided not to purchase until I learn more about it. And that's how I came to your channel..and off course Subscribed 👍 You have been Sew Informative in Detail and was very HONEST in the Pros and Cons. I Thank-U Sew Much! Can't wait to see more on your other Videos. God Bless You (Virtual Hugs)...But let me make some Pop-Corn 1st 😊 Chao Bella!
If you bought Ditto at JoAnn's and have the box and receipt, they will refund the purchase. Thank you for being honest about the Ditto and that its stashed in the back of you closet.
That’s good to know! The description states unopened boxes are returnable. Glad to know they will take it back with an open box! Did they charge $25 for restocking?
Thank you so very much for sharing your information. This is definitely not the machine for me. It would be great if it was compatible with Singer Momento. Thank you again.
Unfortunately you cannot do this in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, so you know have to learn a new program such a PDF Stitcher. The ability to view size layers is a basic and necessary feature for projector sewing. Therefore, the BYOP on the Ditto app is unusable on multi sized patterns without 3rd party software and “prep” work.
That’s very thoughtful of you! There are many people that love their Ditto. Some like the subscription base and others don’t. It’s an all-in-one system that is often less overwhelming than a DIY setup. But, it has its limitations. What pattern companies does she currently use? Does she prefer using PDF patterns? What does she like to sew? In my opinion: With it being so close to Christmas, I’d go ahead and gift it to her. Nope! We use free PDF readers to project patterns including free Adobe Acrobat Reader and Inkscape. No subscriptions! New developments in the DIY projector sewing world also now include simple drag and drop calibration methods using patternprojector.com or ProjectandCut.com
The idea of this product is nice, but i am not sold. I see a lot of extra cost in comparison to physical patterns, but i am not seeing any time saving. The only time saving i see here is the actual cutting which is a small, small portiin of sewist time. The fact it can't turn off sizes even is a huge downer to this. Major improvements needed a long with purchasers cost reduction.

You can change black lines on any PDF pattern in Adobe Acrobat.

Thank you so much for this review. I was wondering about the ditto system. It was a great help!

Glad you found me! Enjoy learning about the amazing world of sewing with a projector! 🎉

Glad it was helpful!
I rather stick to my old fashion way of sewing & ❤ it thank you
I’m assuming you made the blue top you are wearing in the thumbnail. Could you please tell me what pattern you used?
I made the pants, but I did not make the blue top 😊. It was a second hand find. Thanks for asking, sorry I don’t have a pattern for you!
Fantastic review. Will you be doing another review once BYOP is complete?
Thank you! It’s been several months and no updates to the BYOP feature has been made. Yes, I will most likely do a review when it is updated.
@@projectorsewing thank you
Regarding the multi layered pattern, easy fix is to just do a save as the size you would want so you don’t have to view all of those crazy lines
Unfortunately you cannot do this in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, so you know have to learn a new program such a PDF Stitcher. The ability to view size layers is a basic and necessary feature for projector sewing. Why would anyone buy a projector that is only compatible with one brand? 😂
thank you for the excellent video
I just bought this for my wife for Christmas. Should I return it? Im nervous now! 😢

Sounds like you need to look at a DIY sewing projector. 😉 They start at $50. And there are many great PDF pattern companies out there!
I can't get mine to connect literally 300 dollars for nothing
I’m sorry to hear that! That is frustrating. Please make sure to contact customer support, they may be able to help or send a replacement unit.
One of these days companies would want us to subscribe to use our fridge😂. Or our bef🙄
