  • Today I will be launching what I call the Happy Minds Stories Series with my own personal story of struggling with Mental Wellness.
The Happy Minds Stories series will see me share the inspirational story of people who have suffered mental illness, trauma, anxiety, depression as well as surviving suicide, and who have successfully learned to live with this, to heal and go on to thrive and are now helping others to do the same.
My story is a little different than the others I will be sharing as I am only just at the start of my healing journey as it has only been recently that I have begun to question why I never felt I was thriving in life. Why I have struggled with unexplained anger, sadness, loneliness, depression, and that I am never enough. Why it is I have never felt truly happy or let alone how to be happy despite outwardly looking like I am a thriving human being.
Most of my life I have just assumed that it was just me and that it was who I am and just needed to muscle my way through it, work harder and not think about it.
It is only recently in interviewing over 80 mental health experts, healers and therapists that I have come to discover that traumas I experienced in my childhood may have created coping patterns and behaviors that have impacted how I show up in the world. But more importantly that there is a way forward, a path to healing, happiness and thriving.
In this video I share a little of my story, a childhood filled with trauma and a recent realization that up to this point in time my life I have not been living life but rather just surviving in life.
I hope this will resonate with others who are struggling and have wondered why they have struggled to find happiness throughout their lives. Those who have always felt something was wrong and couldn't put their finger on it and just assumed that this was just life and nothing they could do about it.
Those who thought mental illness was just something that happened to others and certainly not themselves. Those who have grinded their way through life and lived the best they knew how, with the limited psychological resources they had available, not really believing the events they have experienced in their lives had, had any impact, let alone changed the way they show up in life.
Those who have lived productive lives but on balance are not happy with their lives. Those who have not yet discovered what it means to fully live the true possibilities of the human experience we call life and what it means to thrive.
My message to you all is that I am not only hopeful but 100% certain that there is a path to healing, a path to the HAPPY MIND, that will give us the HAPPY LIVES we each deserve.
I look forward to your feedback and your ask you to be on the look out for more Happy Minds Stories each week. Stories that will give you hope, show there is no shame in what you are feeling or experiening and empower you to seek out the help and discover the tools and practices that will help you heal.
A starting point for you on this journey is the Happy Minds Summit, where I share interviews with some of the world's leading mental health experts, therapists and healers.
