Some important things to note about Pursuit and Attack Speed (AS) in FE4:
You only need 1 (yes, 1) more AS to double an enemy as long as you have Pursuit. Another thing is that AS can also dip into the negatives: if your AS is -7 but the enemy is at -8, then congratulations you get a pursuit attack.
So while Sigurd's speed growth doesn't seem so impressive at first, his high base and the fact that swords hardly weigh him down means he ends up outrunning so many more enemies than it might seem at first.
Add on top of that the Speed Ring you get in the Prologue, which adds +5 speed as long as it's in your inventory. With it, he actually outspeeds Ayra at base level, because her default Iron Blade weighs herself down so much that if she fights Sigurd on his way to take the first Ch1 castle then he will just double attack with the speed ring and totally wreck her by accident.

An underrated upside is also seliph. He’s literally your first child unit; meaning rings left on Sigurd are inherited the earliest and can be used perfectly to boost seliph up to becoming Sigurd 2.0 in one chapter, then be given to units who need them. Plus he technically passes down the crit skill on account he will get a lot of kills for the silver sword.

4:15: I might be reading into this wrong, but the reason Sigurd gains exp much more easily than you’d expect is because fe4 uses the units level for exp scaling, but does not check if they are promoted (hence why quan also shares this quality). Really good video though real quick, exp scaling wasn't introduced in FE5, not even by fe4, it's just that being promoted counts as being the same level that you are rather than being counted separately. Level 5 exp gain is lower than level 1 exp gain, but level 5 promoted is the same as level 5, because level does not reset on promotion. FE2 was the first game with a scaling exp formula, and FE1/3 had fixed exp gain.

I'd argue the fact he's the one who seizes castles is one of his few weaknesses. You can prepare for the next castle you'll have to seize by moving your units as close to it as possible, which allows for your non-mounted units to catch up too. So you only seize when they're all ready. This strategy makes a lot of segments in chapters easier by concentrating all the units in one location, allowing for weaker units to attack and then form a wall of stronger units in front of them to protect them. The only reason you wouldn't use this strategy is if you do an LTC, a ranked run or don't do it on purpose to experiment/add challenge/ change things up. When you do this, Sigurd is behind the rest of the army by quite a lot on every castle except the first one in each chapter, so he'll see less combat than a lot of units. It's more or less significant depending on the chapter though, and obviously doesn't apply to the first castle of each chapter. Take chapter 2 for example. After you seize the 2nd castle, Sigurd has to travel half the map diagonally (which is the equivalent of travelling the whole map horizontally/vertically, so quite a lot). By the time he arrives, the conflict to reach the 3rd castle is long over. But if we take for example the 2nd castle of chapter 1, then this issue doesn't exist at all, since you need to seize that castle as soon as you can before someone kills Ayra or Ayra kills someone.
Also I think you forgot to mention weapon kills. When you have 50 kills on a weapon it gives the critical skill on that weapon and it gives a +1% chance for each kill over 50. Usually you'd want all the strongest weapons in the game to have as much kills as possible, but those only appear later as you progress through the game and by then you'll have given kills to weaker weapons. The fact that Sigurd gets a silver sword, one of the strongest swords in the game halfway through chapter 1 means he's able to give it kills right away, and a silver sword will still be relevant at the very end of the game, unlike a steel sword for example. And he's the only mounted unit who can use it right away without needing to promote first. Ayra can use it as soon as she joins sure, but she's not promoted. And she's the only other good option to give the silver sword. So it's a HUUUUGE benefit, although mostly in the long term. Granted, that's not necessarily something that exclusively benefits him as he can give the silver sword to anyone who can use it once it reaches 50 kills and it gives the same benefit, but it's still something HUGE he gives to the army overall.
Also how come you didn't talk about his authority that gives +10 hit/avo to any unit within 3 spaces? It's basically the charm skill actually.
This turned out to be much longer than I thought it would be.

Sigurd is powerful, but not invisible. The generation 1 campaign is perfectly balanced around him, as it is also natural for it to be by default easier than generation 2. You also don’t fight a ton of magic users until chapters 4 and 5, which are Sigurd’s main weakness.
It should also be noted that FE4 is very player phase biased not just because of FE4’s strong favoritism to mounted units, but also that hit rates are calculated with single RN. Meaning, you can’t reliably dodge-tank on enemy phase as easily as you can in later games of the series.

Narron for tear ring saga feels even more overpowered than Sigurd. He starts trash but has paragon and has broken promotion gains. It will take 1 or 2 chapters to promote him but once I did he was one rounding armour knights with a javelin. By the time he was level 40 most units were lower than 20.

Why do you bring up the fe7 rankings? That's like saying Wendy is a good unit, it's objectively correct, and thus not really improtanr to bring up.

Come on! Be serious! Wendy isn't "a good unit". She's one of the greatest unit of the game! Anything below 10/10 is a travesty!

Sigurd falls off at the midpoint of the game...
I played FE4 like 5 years ago and that's still too soon! 🤣

For me Sigurd falls off on the silesia chapter, really at that point lex was an unstopable killing machine that is only weak to magic, he has brave axe so he can kill anything so eazy, alec and noish are bad really bad no matter how hard you try, at this point also lachesis will be promoted and she can do everything sigurd makes just better , she can use all weapons and staffs you have always the advantage on the weapon triangle. i feel like sigurd is truly overrated. no joke.

It's worth mentioning that Sigurd is arguably the oldest protagonist of any True Fire Emblem, with FE10 Ike as a close second (don't say Chrom or Byleth because Awakening and Three Houses are not True FEs in my opinion). These men are both in their 20s, with Sigurd going on to marry Dierdre around halfway through his campaign, so it makes sense that they start out much stronger than most other lords in the series.
Sigurd scales better than a Jagen because he's still adherent to the Lord archetype, whilst being just as strong as said Jagen in the earlygame as mentioned. By definition, the Lord archetype is the main character of the game, meaning they need to scale well, especially if they start out weak such as Roy or average such as Seliph (also from FE4 obviously), Eirika, and Eliwood.

“Awakening and three houses are not true FE’s” what is blud talking about

    • @torri776
      @torri776 Год назад

@@lagspike7763 I think they are not true Fire Emblems because they lack the distinct tone which defines Fire Emblem in their writing. Awakening takes on an awful anime tone that doesn't belong in FE, while Three Houses, though certainly better written than Awakening, resembles a reworked Persona V which feels almost nothing like Fire Emblem outside of the international politics. Berwick Saga has vastly different gameplay than a traditional FE but might as well be a True FE because the writing feels so at home with what Fire Emblem should be. Same with Vestaria Saga.

@@torri776 First of all, Three Houses is pretty much nothing like Persona 5 aside from the school life setting for the first half of the game. Second of all, Fire Emblem has always been anime. It's ALWAYS been anime. It's just that older games took from different genres and eras of anime and Awakening's inspiration is pretty much just a popular shonen of its era.
You can feel free to think that Fire Emblem isn't fire emblem anymore but it's not a reasonable baseline to make a statement off of, because by your logic, every game since awakening is "not Fire Emblem".
