This was the first thing I thought of after watching the Nintendo's E3 and developer reveals on the new Pokemon X and Y games. SKY BATTLES were a new battle mechanic being introduced in these games, and will allow almost ALL flying type pokemon and those with levitate to participate. Of course, the first thing I thought of was good old Dodrio and Gyarados stealing the stage as they are often forgotten as flying types.

Akashi Nano Nah, Emolga is very bad, Talonflame could easily beat him with Flare Blitz. If you want an Electric/Flying type, use Zapdos.

I always imagined dodrio being able to shoot solar beam out of one head, hydro pump ot of the other and fire blast out of the last one, then the beams fuse to create hyperbeam

to Ice, Lighting, and Fire. Both use all the heads. Although when you think about it, it wouldn't be the best move for Dodrio since it's Sp. Attack ain't all that great.

for all the questions regarding "where's Unfaezant?" or "Where's staraptor" etc. I basically just decided to draw my favourites.
Though I really wish I had included Scyther in this now that someone mentioned it... He's been waiting to fly for a while now... maybe a part 2

Sigillyph, Emolga, Charizard, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, and Salamance are all gonna be really fun to use in these battles.

Sadly, Dodrio can't participate in Sky Battles. Anything with a standing animation, like Pidgey, Fletchling, or Farfetch'd, can't participate despite being Flying-type or having Levitate.
Gyarados can, though, as can Mega Charizard, even though it's not a Flying-type (because Charizard is, and it's Flying-type going into the battle).
I wonder what would happen if there was a Pokémon that has a floating animation when sent out but had a form that makes it have a standing model...
Interesting thought.
Sky Forme Shaymin can't participate, either, as it stands in its model.
Maybe also dragons who fly even if they don't have flying type can partecipate
So probably every Pokémon who fly.

Well almost, yes. You'd use mold breaker etc, but assuming nothing is hacked, there's always a way for any trainer to get around something they can expect, which is a gamble and part of the fun of Pokemon.
Dodrio flys by running really fast

We actually see him do that in the animation of fly in a game. Can't remember which one though.

Oh that one's easy. Gyarados is based on the Chinese Dragon. Folklore tells that if a carp is able to jump over a certain row of waterfall located somewhere in China, that carp will transform into a dragon and be able to fly. It's shape may also be a reference to the carp-shaped wind socks that are flown to celebrate Children's day in Japan. They represent the tenacity of the carp as is tries to jump up waterfalls and a hope that the child may inherit that same determination as he/she grows.
I like this animation! Simple, not a lot of redrawing, just camera pan and rotate!
Imagine flocks of flying mega-gyarados flying south for winter. Twice a year for a period of a few days the kalos region becomes hell on earth. Hide your kin and prepare for battle. They're coming.
Carnivine, Rotom, Scyther, Farfetch'd, Mantine, and Mantyke will be taking part in these glorious battles!

This might mean that most Pokémon that are able to be airborne are allowed to enter them. I guess it's most/all Levitaters and Pokémon that can use Fly, possibly. GO GET 'EM GOLURK!

Actually, Nintendo said that only specific Pokémon will be in these Flying battles. While the animation wasn't accurate to the X & Y reveals, it was still pretty entertaining.
Oh god, Gyarados with ice type moves...Delibird getting stab from them, same for articuno, Zapdos too but with electric moves...Don't forget Archeops...This will be Chaotic.
Technically, you can get a super-effective hit on Dark/Ghost by using Odor Sleuth + a fighting move. So nothing is really 100% safe from a super-effective.
Along with natu because it pokedex entry from heartgold says something like "it's wings are to small to fly, so it just flopped around everywhere"
You know, Sky battles are also for pokemon with the levitate ability. Haunter! Braviary! Battle through the skies of freedom!

Well, I've seen Fairies the size of Angels in movies before. And besides, a fairy is a much more pokemon-like creature that you can catch than a more human-like angel.

Yeah, It seems even with no compression flash doesn't export sound well, then again in saving up for a good sound exiting software so hopefully itll get better :) try watching in HQ that might help too

No, I think it will be super-effective. All Odor-Sleuth does is remove a ghost-type's immunity to fighting. So long as that happens, fighting is normally-effective against ghost, and super-effective against dark. Therefore, it would be super-effective.

Kingdra came out on Gen 2, at the same time as Outrage and Dragonbreath, so it was kept in check adequately.
Eelektross would be the levitating Sky Battles champion. Just look at it's typing and ability. Those Flying Pokémon will be knocked out in no time. And Eelektross has enough diversity to do super effective damage to almost any levitaters.
That's why Gyarados is Flying type xD
I dunno how that freaky alien thing with the jewel eyes can get any freakier, but I'm always expecting news from Pokémon.
I mean, they did make the ice-cream pokemons...and now the cotton candy pokemon... I'm not even sure if it is Satoshi Tajiri on command of the pokemon creation department back at Game Freak.

You wouldn't believe my disappointment when I met the first Sky Battle Trainer, ready to mop the floor with my Duduo (who is now a Dodrio), only to be told I didn't have a Flying type on my team. Even more ironic is the fact that my Dodrio knows Fly now...

Really, sky battles will really be dominated by about two actual flying types (Gyarados and Skarmony, unless they really upgrade old flying types or introduce actual good ones) and a lot of levitate users like Gengar and Rotom, if for nothing else except lack of weakness to stealth rock.

When you look at it, Angels and Fairies are really really close.
They'll probably change it. I don't think it's a wussy-type because we don't know how it matches up with all the other types, and Fairy-type moves will now be available to many more Pokemon who aren't Fairy-type, so it'll keep Dragon more on its toes, which will make the game more balanced.
