TOYOTA GR86 - What You Need to Know - First Drive and Maybe The Last?

- The Toyota GR86 is the successor to the GT86, a car that was offered by Toyota for 9 years and became popular among car enthusiasts and purists.
The Toyota GR86 takes that same recipe and goes one step further; the 2.0L NA Engine is given more capacity to 2.4L. This means that the GR86 produces 231 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. That torque is now more accessible as it peaks at only 3700 rpm.
What is crucial to note about the GR86 is that it will only be on sale for a short window, and after 2024 it will be discontinued. The car simply cannot comply with EU safety laws beyond 2025. It is also important to know that the GR86 has sold out its current allocation, and more aren't likely to be made available, so if you want one you're out of luck.
This first drive was my opportunity to drive the Toyota GR86 before it might not be possible to do so anymore (unless any GR86 owners wants to let me loose in theirs!). The GR86 is pretty much guaranteed to become a future classic.

it is about 60kg heavier than the gt86
Yes, that's due to the bigger engine and some safety features, but the aluminium features help to lower the overall weight and centre of gravity
Awesome review!👍🏻🇨🇦
Thank you! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed my insight 🙌
The Subaru version looks better and drives better in my opinion.
I would agree with you on the looks and I've heard it drives better too, I'd love to give it a go!
@@Naveed4Speed They are very similar. The BRZ is slightly more tuned for road use with better grip where the GR86 is more for the track and the rear end is slightly more prone to sliding out. I prefer the greater confidence from the BRZ.
The front end is subjective. I prefer smaller grills so the BRZ is my preference. If I didn’t have a choice of the BRZ, I would have bought the GR86.
@user-qr2vj6zc6s yes I've heard about the changes with the suspension setup, it seems like the BRZ should understeer less (although I didn't have any problem with the GR86 at all) but aside from that there is probably no difference. Both seem like they'll be a well balanced drive. I wonder if the production numbers of the new BRZ are significantly less than the GR86.
i just bought a new one. definitely would recommend that, the apr is way lower and the price is too. people selling in the aftermarket mark them up almost 5k
Lucky you! When are you having it delivered?
@@Naveed4Speed luckily for me i only had to wait a month for it to come in! im from indiana so maybe the market is bigger
Awesome! How are you finding it?
@@Naveed4Speed Im actually going to the dealership today to pick it up! got it in premium and pavement color, will let you know for sure
@lightriz4844 what a day!
Love the car
Me too!
Great car, Subaru did the hard work though.
It's crazy to see the different production numbers for each model (GR86 and BRZ) throughout the life cycle of the cars, despite them pretty much being the same car
Do you prefer the styling of the GT86 or GR86?
Great video
Thank you! That's high praise coming from you! 🙌
Good video
Thank you
